@growingournest I had one in my first. I feel like when I was in the 3rd trimester I felt movement pretty well but it was more on the inside not so much having my hand on my stomach or seeing it like some people who didn't have a anterior placenta.
@growingournest - baby boy has AP, but I feel him much more than little girl. Doesn’t make any sense, I know. But he is really busy, so I’m probably lucky to not feel every move he makes
@growingournest I also had an AP last time and this time, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I felt a ton of movement. The baby would wake up my DH at night if my belly was pressed up against his back because she was karate chopping all night. I had a low-lying placenta though, and she carried pretty high, so maybe that's why it was so strong/visible from the outside. I'm feeling a lot of movement this time too, but not a ton yet that can be felt from the outside. I think when those babies get close to full size it's impossible not to feel them moving all day long!
@kmalls a little late to the game but and I don't really have much to add besides that we did the quiet time thing on saturday when we were snowed in (DS only naps in the car for me now but naps perfectly fine for 2 hours at daycare) and I ended up falling asleep on the floor while he played with his stuffed animals. He did not nap, but I did lol
@growingournest I am 24 weeks today and have a big ole anterior placenta. Probably for the last two weeks I have felt movement everyday. Dh has even felt her move a couple times already. So just be patient. I had felt virtually no movement up until that point.
@kmalls I hope it went well last night! I was wondering when toddlers drop naps too since DS will not nap on some days. We usually stay with him in his room for up to an hour for nap time, and if it doesn't happen by then, we figure it isn't happening. I don't know of any way to ensure that nap happens, it sounds like they can drop the nap around this age, but our DS seems to still need it too. I wish I had advice, but we haven't found anything that works all that great. For night time, he's been in his twin bed for almost a week now and it's going really well. He doesn't take any longer to fall asleep, and when he wakes in the middle of the night, he is starting to put himself back to sleep without us going down to get him. Last night he fell off his mattress (it's on the floor, so not a big fall), slept on the floor for a while, but was back on the mattress by morning. He didn't wake us up at all!
Good luck all you potty training mamas! We might be trying it out too, but I'm nervous as DS has never peed or pooped on the potty, and he's sat on it plenty of times. His MO is to sit on the potty for a while, then stand up and pee on the floor. I'm scared to potty train, but we do have the Oh Crap potty training book, I guess it's time to crack that open.
@kmalls DD stopped taking a nap right before her 2nd birthday. If she napped she was up until 10 or later and it was killing us. First week they have to get adjusted but shes been doing great. She pretty much (most days) passes out by 7:30/8 within 5 minutes and usually sleeps 10/11 hours at night. Occasionally she has done 12 but not usually. DD has always been on the lower end of the required sleep scale and her Dr. said some kids just don't need as much. I would just do what feels right to you.
@growingournest I've had APs with both my pregnancies and I don't have much to compare too. I'm 24 weeks and feel movement. Mostly low or to the sides. I'm even feeling/seeing kicks from the outside but still only at the sides. I wouldn't worry, you will start feeling more and more. I'll usually just feel like a stretch down the front. As if baby is pushing a hand or food up against the placenta and just running it down.

@mispanda - yeah, I think we’re going to have to try no napping for a little while. Going to bed later last night made absolutely no difference, plus he got up at 1am and wanted to come into bed with us (which was a first). I let him out of sheer exhaustion, but that’s NOT a habit I want to start. I’m hoping he will be like your DD and go to bed earlier and more quickly without a nap. It’s worth a shot, anyway!
@growingournest, hmmmm I've thought about those things (re: wake-up light) but didn't think DS (3) would 'get it.' (I find myself constantly underestimating what he does and doesn't 'get.') I'm interested! Maybe we'll try one too because right now DS wakes up and just lays in bed yelling until we come tell him "it's too early, go back to bed." Hmmmm.....

@ladythrice We just recently got the Hatch Baby Rest and love it. We have it on a program where it turns blue and makes wave noises when it is bathtime, then the white noise and soft lighting for sleep, in the morning it turns blue (his favorite color) when DS can get up. It is also able to be adjusted from my iphone just in case we have an off night or morning. He is 28 months and totally gets it.
How does everyone here count pregnancy in terms of months? Last pregnancy since I was due on the 10th I always counted that 1 month closer each time the 10th of each month came. So being due april 10th last time I said I was 9 months pregnant on my due date....everywhere else I see people explain the months much differently....what is the most correct way? just don't count haha?
@ekendall09 I'm not sure there is a sane/correct way to count .
I usually look like an idiot when someone asks me how many months along I am, because I count by weeks. I can tell you exactly how many weeks and days I am, but have to stop and think what that means month-wise. If I am forced to count by month, I will just say I am that month if I am within 15 days of the 12th (due date).
@ngolimento same, I have to think about it and people look at me like I’m nuts. I’ve just been counting backwards from my due date (treating that as being 9 months) and doing the same within 15ish days thing. So right now I say I’m like 6-ish (EDD 3/29). The other thing I’ve realized is that most people who ask this question don’t REALLY care about the answer and are just making conversation (often it’s random strangers), so if I’m a little off it’s like welp, see ya later.
For how many months pregnant... I consider that my LMP was 7/9, so on 8/9 I was 1 month pregnant and it changes on the 9th of every month. When people ask me how far along I am, I tell them both the month and the number of weeks LOL!
Well if you all REALLY want to confuse people, you could toss in the actual gestation period being 8 and 1/2 months instead of 9. I always hated being forced to count the two weeks prior to ovulation where I am not even pregnant yet.
@growingournest I had an AP last time and have one again this time. With DD I didn’t feel her until 22 or 24 weeks. By maybe the late 20’s I was feeling her regularly and the movement became huge and regular. I could often see her moving from the outside by maybe 33 or 34. I felt this baby super early - maybe 13 weeks. It’s funny now because my placenta is right across the front, behind my navel and I feel her all around the outside of it. I feel her mostly very low, like my underwear line by the movement is getting stronger and more regular. It will come. Just takes longer
Me (33). DH (37). DD (2.2012). MCs x4. After 4 years & 7 months, due 4.2018!

But 38 weeks divided by 4 week “months” is 9.5 months
"The most correct thing would be to talk about your months in terms of calendar months. If your last period was September 4th, then on October 4th you're one month pregnant, November 4th you're two months, December 4th you're three months, etc.
The "mathy" thing to do would be just use assume the average month is 1/12th of a year, or 30.4 days. A week is 7 days. So there are 30.4/7 = 4.34 weeks in a month.
Either method means that the weeks don't nicely evenly fall when the months do... and that's okay! For example, you're now at 21 weeks, which is one of those weird ones. At the beginning of being 21 weeks pregnant, you're 4 months pregnant. At the end of being 21 weeks pregnant, you're 5 months pregnant.
I've heard people say they were 4 months pregnant because they were 16 weeks along... nope. I've had them tell me they were 5 months pregnant when they were only in their 5th month... there's definitely a difference there. During your first year of life, you're not 1 year old, right?"
This is so funny because last night I just learned DH has been telling everyone I'm 6 months. Apparently he has been saying this for weeks. I tell him regularly how far along I am. He is just so oblivious.
I'm late on the nap thing, but here's what we do. DS is 4. We still have him take naps, which CAN last 2-3 hours. If he naps, we put him to bed around 8:30 and give him his Kindle to watch/play and we set it to shut off at a certain time. He knows he has to go to sleep when it turns off.
Sometimes he is definitely not going to nap during the day, and we just let him have quiet time in his room for a good while. If he doesn't nap (bc sometimes has has ended up just going to sleep during quiet time lol) we try to put him to bed around 7:30. He still gets his kindle, but for an earlier shut off time. That's mainly the only time he uses his kindle is at night and maybe in the car on a long drive or of he's really antsy at dinner.
FFTC: On my weekends I set his time later in hopes of sleeping in longer lol.
Eesh, yeah, the whole “quiet time” thing is NOT working for us right now. He used to be able to go to bed and quietly play with his dinosaurs/stuffed animals/whatever until he fell asleep. In this new stage, though, he just screams at his doorway until someone comes to get him. I know it’ll pass eventually, it’s just excruciating to deal with in the moment.
I think the months get confusing because a month isn't 4 weeks. It's more like 4.5 weeks. I've heard a lot of people say "people say pregnancy is 9 months, but it's actually 10" and I always want to question why they say that, but I think it's because they're counting 4 weeks as a month. I'm also with @ngolimento, I hate counting those 2 weeks between period and ovulation.
Is anyone else dealing with carpal tunnel? I’ve been reading a lot of threads but not posting much because it hurrrrts. I had it severely with DD but a couple years ago had carpal tunnel release so I was hoping it wouldn’t come back. No such luck.

@mattel I'm not sure if that's what I have or not. It doesn't really hurt, but my right hand, well mainly certain fingers, and sometimes front part of my wrist go numb, like every night during sleep (even if I'm not laying on that side), and every morning getting ready for work.
@mattel yes, it sucks! I had it really bad but luckily it went away after about 4 days. I’m sure it’ll come back but I’m savoring the time before it does. Get a wrist splint, it really helps! That and ice were the only things that somewhat gave relief for me.
@kaymaroo your instincts about overnight training are spot on. It is 100% outside of conscious control. There is actually a chemical your brain produces to wake you up, and your genes determine when that chemical starts being produced. Some people don't have the physical capability of waking to pee until much later than others.
Do you have any literature on this that you could share? I've been wondering about night training (since we are starting PT soon) and this interests me- I'd like to read specifics, if you have a source you can share.
@kmalls So, did quiet time (or not so quiet time) today mean no nap? How did bedtime go tonight?

Here is the best explanation I can find. I know it is Reddit, BUT there are really good source documents linked. It looks like my understanding of the chemical process wasn't perfect, but it's definitely biology that forces late learning for some kids, not a parenting or personality flaw.
@kbamomma33 and @ngolimento The Oh Crap Potty Training book also touches on the subject of night time training. She addresses the biological ability to wake to pee and how to test whether your kid will have it or whether they will simply be a heavy sleeper that won't wake until much older. She also speaks to the biologically controlled ability to 'hold' it and its impact on night-time training/when is right for which kids.

I feel like I've been on here so sporadically lately that I may have missed if anyone else has had an issue/experience with this.
I had the anatomy scan yesterday and it was found that I have an single umbilical artery, or a two cord vessel. The baby is also very small for gestational age (10% for weight). Baby also was uncooperative so they didn't get shots of his heart, the profile, or of sex organs. OB recommended I get a follow up with a specialist. He said there is a chance that this is because of a chromosomal condition. I had the Harmony test done twice, both inconclusive, and then I had a quad scan done that came back with no increased risk. I'm a mess.
Has anyone had an experience with this? Apparently two cord vessels only happen in 1% of pregnancies. I wasn't expecting this, and I feel dumb and arrogant for just assuming everything would be fine because I have two healthy kids at home.
