Re: Weekly Randoms ~ 11/27

  • @notthefather @newmomtx06 Well once I looked at the dates I realized one is the same day as another party, and the other is the Sunday my husband gets back in town after being gone for 5 days. (One was for the 10th, which seems like pretty late notice for a holiday party?) So far at least one other person has opted out, so we’ll see how it goes.

  • @stlbuckeye132 ahh, so much fun! My alma maters (Notre Dame and Northwestern) were both a little haphazard this year, but the Big 10 as a whole was nuts! Enjoy yourself (and stay warm :p)!!
  • Hmmmm @npkat and I thought I liked you..... there is nothing I'd like to see more than my buckeyes crush Wisconsin's hopes of being in the playoffs! I really hope my boys actually show up to play, considering they've been so spotty this season!

Also, I obviously still hold some resentment for OU beating us this year, and my husband went to the other OSU (OK State... mine is the real OSU obviously) so we just dislike OU in general. I guess we can't be friends anymore!
  • @stlbuckeye132 hahaha I figured I couldn't convince you to root against your team, but it was worth a shot! Yea, you really do have a solid dislike for OU considering the circumstances. Please still be my friend ;)
  • @ksmwalters this is definitely a perfect time to pull the pregnancy card.

@gh515 Thanks! And it's actually at an indoor stadium, so I lucked out there!

@npkat ok I guess we can still be friends, we just won't discuss football anymore!
  • I'm just going to completely stay out of this @npkat and @stlbuckeye132 seeing as I'm a Penn State alumn and started going to Happy Valley for football games when I was 10 (both my parents are alumns and actually met at PSU) and had season tickets when I was a student there and have taught both of my children how to root for the Lions....I'm just going to back out of this conversation so we can all stay friends :D
  • @LaurenAnn0405 lol I guess I shouldn't have brought this up!! Let's just all go back to discussing babies.... *backs away slowly*
  • @stlbuckeye132 sound so great! But go Wisconsin! I'm from Michigan and cannot ever like your team.

  • @becausescience gahhhhhhhhh I am clearly so outnumbered here!!! Now I need us to win even more! haha
  • haha @stlbuckeye132 look what you've started ;)
  • @LaurenAnn0405 my parents met at PSU too. My dad is from State College and my grandfather worked at the university.  My dad offers a full “scholarship” to any kid that wants to attend and none of us have been smart enough to take it.
  • So the district posted my long term sub position and nobody has applied.

    *cue panic*

  • I’m going to skip the football talk and go back to puppies dreaming @kalawa. When our puppies do that we always joke that they are chasing bunnies.

Also, @ksmwalters that sounds like a crap “party.”
  • @becausescience YIKES. What does that mean for you if no one applies?
  • @ShawnnaO I will be in full panic mode.  But it is up to the district to find somebody.  I'll just be super worried until I get a sub locked in, as I'll be leaving my classes mid semester - I want to make sure they're in good hands!

  • @becausescience you’re a good teacher to care so much about leaving your students in good hands!
  • I'm glad I'm not the only wondering about dog dreams haha. We theorized that she is dreaming about running amuck. She likes to escape...like the littlest hobo from the 80's television show.
  • Got rates from all but one of the daycares I'm looking at. I knew they'd be pretty high since I live in Suburbia, IL... but I'm just about still in shock. The place I had figured would probably be the second most expensive has turned out to be $100/week cheaper than any of the other places I've heard back from, and that one is still twice as expensive as my (admittedly low) mortgage. I might cry a bit.

  • Late to the game here but @LaurenAnn0405 PSU fan here too!
  • @becausescience Do you have a substitute that’s covered for you in the past that you’ve liked/trusted? Could you reach out to them? Maybe they haven’t been checking postings due to the holidays?

I’m sure that’s nerve wracking not knowing in advance who’s going to care for “your kids”, your classroom, your work, while you’re out. That said, I’m sure whoever it is if they’re accepting a long term sub position should HOPEFULLY be well prepared for what they’re about to sign up for! Hang tight, hopefully someone will nab it soon!
  • @chasingroygbiv I wish I had more contacts, but have been hoarding my sick/personal days for maternity leave so haven't been out much. And I need a math certified sub, which is a subject in high demand. Also my sub when I was out with DD was a bit crazy, so they won't be wanting her back...

I just want to find somebody so I can touch base with them and so that I know I have somebody ready if I go early. It'll probably end up being a December grad, which is fine but I'm hoping for a bit more experience.

  • @calecorvus it's really depressing how much daycare is...I love all the places I've looked at and it makes me sad I'll have to make a decision based mostly on cost.

  • @becausescience Definitely understandable! I don’t know how it is there, but here good subs, heck— any subs really, are hard to come by. Some of the subs in our district shouldn’t be there, but will continue to be because we are so incredibly desperate for them. Last year when Influenza hit they were having to pull in Student Teachers because so many teachers were out, there weren’t enough subs, specials teachers were already covering elsewhere, etc. I am not currently on the sub list (I took myself off when I had DD and never got back into it) and I got a call asking if I would come in and they’d just “throw me back on the list quick.” Crazy!!!
  • @DDRRT1982 I saw that! So amazing!
  • Stm question! Not baby related but was wondering if any of you have one of those lights for kiddos rooms that is red or green so they know when they can get out of bed and not wake you up at 5am? Do they work and which one do you have? Moving our 2 year old into a big boy room and thought the light might help!
  • Just popping in to say GOOOOOOOOOOO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!
  • @bravoandprosecco yes we had one for our kids and it was amazing.  It didn't quite work on the youngest (she was also 2 and it a pretty hard concept at that age) but the sooner you start it the better it works.  Her sister is 22 months older and she caught on right away.  I think it also helps they actually learn what the numbers on the clock means.

Now that they are older we are trying to break the habit of waking us up on the weekends, last night I warned them 800 times to let me sleep unless there was a real emergency, I was woken up at 6:42 because the 6 year old had to tell me her poop smelled so bad she almost puked... *le sigh*

  • @bravoandprosecco I registered for the Hatch baby sound machine that has an “Ok to wake” light on it as well. No idea if it’ll work but here’s hoping!! (Obvi not until he’s older.)
  • Not sure where to put this. But my SO is literally driving me crazy lately. All he does is complain about everything. I'm starting to avoid him all day. Anything to complain about, he does. Like today it was supper, his foot, the dog, what I give the kids to snack on, etc. Etc. Ugghhhhhhhh
  • I'm really surprised that my brother is the one pushing for a baby shower for my baby. That's really odd since he usually is pretty much stuck in his own world. (I don't have sisters and only handful of friends- maybe even less than that)

I think that’s really cool.  He is obviously very excited.
