question for any mom's with a history of gestational diabetes. When does your doctor have you taking the glucose test? is it your OB or your Endo dr? and what test do they have you taking?
I was on insulin with DS. So the genetic counselor recommended the 1hr at 16 wks. But my endo today said that's to early and to hold out till around 20-22 wks and go straight to the 3 hour (ugh). I'm curious what my OB says this week. But, guessing the Endo is the specialist though, so i'll trust her. But I'm just curious what others are told to do?

@catlady1215 I'm doing the 1 hour at 16 weeks. I also found my meter from last time and decided to test my fasting today lol, which was fine. My doctor said if I did fine with the 16 weeks they would test again at 28.
@katie121209 good call on the meter! I bet I still have mine somewhere.. probably with a dead battery lol. but I wonder if I have any strips. I think I might have given those to my mom, hmmm. are they over the counter? fasting was always my trouble number, so I'm curious now.

@doxiemoxie212 I'm almost positive that everyone gets the 1hr test around 28 weeks. I'm sure just like anything though, its your body and you can refuse anything you'd like.

@doxiemoxie212 I'm sure you can refuse it if you would like, but I'm 99% sure its standard in every pregnancy. I had no signs/symptoms/no history and I still "had" to do it.
Me: 28 | Husband: 39 Married March 2016 DD: born 7.22.16 DS EDD: 6.23.18
I would not recommend refusing it, although I believe there are alternatives to drinking the sugary orange drink they give you. I never though I'd have the slightest chance of GD and without finding out would have had 12 more weeks of blood sugar issues affecting the baby.
@catlady1215 the test strips are unfortunately the more expensive part that insurance covers. The lancets are really cheap.
@doxiemoxie212 GD is a standard test for all pregnant women. I guess you could technically refuse it, but I don't know why you would? I know there are alternatives to the sugary drink, but those are more labor-intensive.
Most women with GD have no or very mild symptoms (or they're basically the same as any other pregnancy symptom), so that's not really a good indicator.
ETA: I had no risk factors/symptoms, and I failed my first 1-hour test, but went on to pass the 3-hour test with perfect numbers. So a first-time fail isn't necessarily an indicator of anything, either! I'm hoping to just go straight to the 3-hour this time, so I can avoid going twice.

First time around I had low iron and had to take a supplement in addition to my normal prenatal. I'm wanting all of the cold things all the time, which I know is a wives tale for low iron...I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and start the supplement now. I don't remember when they tested for it last time...I think around the 20-24 week mark?
I was mostly just curious if it's standard procedure since I know obviously at some point it wasn't, so I just wasn't sure. I am a bit wary of the ingredients in the glucose drink, since I would never drink regular soda (which also has that stuff in it), but I don't think I'd want to refuse the test either. Online it seems like some OBs are open to alternative beverages/foods with a similar amount of overall sugar.... but who knows. I'll cross the bridge when I come to it. 28 weeks is far away. Future Me shall deal with it. lol
This is probably a weird question but I’m wondering if it has happened/happening to anyone else. So I’m 10 weeks almost 11. I’ve had pretty bad morning sickness but that seems to be getting slightly better. The problem is I get super sick feeling at night. Like so bloated that my whole abdomen hurts and I get really nauseous. I basically just have to go to bed. It kinda feels like my digestive system doesn’t process anything all day then it catches up with me at night. I’m just wondering if there is anything I can do to help out the situation?
@doxiemoxie212 an old coworkers daughter couldn't stomach the drink. she literally vomited in the waiting room. so the next time her doctor gave her a certain amount of special gummie bears. she handled it much better. I don't know if the ingredients are similar to the drink though? but its worth asking when the time comes.

@MooFish2364 I'm definitely the most bloated and sick feeling at night. Lying on my left side on the couch while vegging in front of the tv helps. Also being hydrated. Mostly it just sucks but you have to wait it out. It gets better in 2nd tri. (Then bad again...)
For those who have had 2 C sections do they make the incision in the same place? Did your scar get worse after #2? Curious in case I have to have another.
hi! I had my NIPT done on 11/20. I was originally scheduled for 11/30
but went in last Monday because I was feeling so shi*** and almost
passed out at work and my OB drew me early. Anyways, has anyone else had
the Progenity brand of testing? I was reading about it online and the
reviews are horrible....mostly regarding billing and their customer
service. I'm excited to have had my labs drawn 10 days earlier than
originally planned, I assume it'll take at least the full 2 weeks for
results because of the holiday, but I'm not super excited to deal with
this company. Any input is appreciated!
@bearmoons I had the Innatal test done through Progenity. I can tell you the customer service was pretty interesting to deal with. Before we had the labs drawn, I was trying to do some research to see how much it would cost us out of pocket because my OB thought it was $99 and I wanted to confirm. They would only tell me that it would cost somewhere between $225 and $7000! Once I told them that my OB had said it was $99, then the customer service rep told me I should have mentioned that first and that was a "prompt pay discount". It all felt totally shady but I got a confirmation number on our call to reference if we have issues once we get billed.
As far as the actual labs coming back, I had my blood drawn at 8 AM on 11/13 and my doctor's office called around noon on 11/20 with results so it was pretty speedy. My OB told us it would take 7-10 days to get results back.
@harveyabbey77 thanks! I'm hopeful that since we've met our deductible, our out of pocket max, AND I'm 35, my insurance should cover it. It sounds like the issue will be with them figuring that out..... My draw was in the afternoon, so I'm thinking maybe later this week, taking that and the holiday into account.
@bearmoons I had the NIPT done my last pregnancy and it was with progenity. The only customer service issue I had was the results told me we were having a girl, but we actually had a boy. They couldn’t/ wouldn’t explain to me why the results would/ could be wrong with out my doctors permission and they genetics counselor for that company never called me back. So I don’t exactly trust that company, but I’m only in the 3% that happens to
@boymama29 I'd be so surprised! The test told us we're having a boy and I already started buying some boy things and starting to purge our clothes from DD since we'll be done after this baby. Maybe I should wait until after our anatomy scan in January!
At what point with a fever would you guys call the doctor??? I’m pretty sure I have the flu (muscle aches, fever, can’t keep anything down), but my fever isn’t crazy high just border line (100.5) . Just looking for what everyone else would do- google gives varying answers. Also apologies if this question is in the wrong area!
@boymama29, while I haven't experienced it myself, I think the recommendation is to keep your temp below 100ish. Take Tylenol as it reduces fever. You could probably also try cold packs or cold showers if it gets much worse.
Me: 30 | DH: 31 Met: August 2006 Married: July 2012 TTC #1 since June 2016
@boymama29 you can always call if you're concerned. Are you taking Tylenol or not able to keep that down? I would suggest pedialyte as its absorbed very rapidly so even if you throw up you've likely gotten some hydration. Sorry you are so sick
@boymama29 I believe my dr told me to call with a fever of 102 (I think?!) and if I haven’t been able to keep anything down for 24 hours. So sorry you’re so miserable!!
@MooFish2364 I’ve been having the same thing for about 2 weeks. Basically not hungry at all in the late afternoon/evening and super bloated. I keep almonds by the bed in case I wake up hungry because I’m too tired and lazy to go downstairs.
Has anyone else has butt pain on one side? I’m only 9 weeks and read it can be either the piriformis muscle or sciatic nerve. It’s probably not sciatica because I’m not having any back or leg pain but I’m no doctor. If anyone is interested I’ll tell you what OB says tomorrow.

Agree - no point in avoiding the test - it’s a standard part of prenatal care. And untreated, GD can lead to stillbirth. Also, despite women being dramatic (in my opinion) about the drink, it’s really not bad. Tastes like a shot of flat Fanta.
@doxiemoxie212 Do you have a specific concern about the test?
I too failed the 1-hour and passed the 3-hour.

@glitterfingers@moofish2364 I’ve been having the same evening sickness. I try to eat a popsicle or ice chips and that helps a little but I mostly suffer through. Come on 2nd Trimester!!!
I look forward to what what your doctor says about the pain bc I’m having the same issue. Mine feels like it’s my tailbone. I pulled out my pregnancy pillow and that helped a little last night.
@ash9614 meh, certain ingredients in at least some if not all of the brands of the drink are used as flame retardants and banned in other countries (japan, the EU I believe) soooooo I’m not suuuuper stoked to drink that? They’re pretty typical ingredients for soda in the US in general, but I don’t drink soda so I’d love to not have to have those ingredients. But it seems like a lot of OBs are flexible re: alternatives as long as there’s a consistent, measurable amount of sugar in whatever it is (ie, jelly beans). I have a while to figure it out with my OB. I’m sure there’s a way to make it work.
@glitterfingers I had that sharp pain in my butt cheek with my last pregnancy and I’ve had it on and off this time around. I have a bad knee which causes my hips to get out of whack easily. I ended up having to go see a special massage therapist that does like sports pain relief. She gave me a bunch of basic exercises to do everyday to strengthen my hip muscles to help prevent this. Pelvic tilts are the most helpful.
@Ash9614 I agree the drink didn't taste that bad. I will say that a few women in my last BMB mentioned getting the drink warm though- I'm sure that having it cold makes a difference. Mine was cold last time, and I went to Quest to take the test. My only advice is pee before you go- you will not be allowed to go to the bathroom during the hour long wait, and take it in the morning on an empty stomach so your blood sugar level isn't increased by anything else.
