Re: Weekly Randoms 10/30-11/5

  • @katm89 maybe ask specifically? And talk to your PCP also? They may have more info on the actual risks than a midwife. I'd think on a cruise you should be pretty isolated, but I'd definitely ask.

@christycalifornia whats PCP? I will ask my midwife at my appt, but how much would that suck to find out a week before the trip we can't go. We also never purchased travel insurance.

edited to add: PCP is primary care physician? She is my primary care.
  • Was anyone taking supplements while TTC and now not sure / worried to just abruptly stop? My fertility coach/acupuncturist had me on the below supplements, but my RE is now suggesting I stop....

    Inositol
    L Arginine
    N Acetylcysteine
    fish oil
    low dose aspirin

Curious if anyone else is in the same boat!
  • Damn my SN will NOT update! :(
  • It can take a few hours @knottie26903651. :)

@Katm89 yeah, primary care is what I meant. I hope it's all good and you get to go! That would totally suck.
  • @christycalifornia talked to MW and she said as long as we stay near the beach and near the windy areas and use bug spray all over we should be fine. We are only in the bahamas for 2 out of the 7 days, so we can be super careful. I am not even going with the all natural stuff, deet it is... the toxins are better than the birth defects from zika. Also, I used it with DD's pregnancy in FL last time.
  • @bdesterhouse - I know getting just water or soda will out me! Ahhh!

  • @LF93 Where in Ireland are you from (if you don't mind me asking)? I've only been once and I'm dyyying to go back. A few generations back, most of my family is from Galway. :)
  • @Katm89 awesome news!! I'm so happy for you! Staying home would have SUCKED.
  • Does anyone know how I can tell if someone has tagged me in a post on the mobile version of the site? I can’t figure it out! Last pregnancy I was at my old office job and did all this on a desktop!

  • Argh. Was supposed to get my HCG results from my Doctor today. She didn't call and since it's now after hours the answering service say she no way to reach her unless it's an emergency (and lab results don't count.) All so frustrating. Had a similar experience previously with this lack of follow through. Should I be considering switching practices...?
  • @adventuresawait1 my doctors office has forgotten to call with my betas a few times too. SO frustrating. I've gotten into the habit of just calling them towards the end of the business day so I know they'll be ready.
I haven't considered switching practices because I had a wonderful first pregnancy with them, but if it's a deal breaker for you there's no better time to switch than now!
  • @acunamatada, it helps to know others have experienced so this frustration before, too. Could be that calling before they close solves it. I actually called around 4:40 not realizing they close at 4:30. If only they weren't so convincing when they say they will definitely call...
  • @LF93 That's awesome! I stayed one night in Mayo - in Ashford Castle in Cong. DH's grandfather was born in Donegal. We desperately want to take a trip there when our kids are a little older.
  • @adventuresawait1 mine was suppose to call back with blood test results to *TW* confirm a miscarriage *end TW* they didn’t and it was a Friday.
I have been able to look past it because they’re a really great office, but like PP have said, it all depends on what is acceptable to you.
If that’s something you can look over and give them a second chance I would!
My rule is to always bug people. I want to trust they’re (whoever it is) going to call, but people forget and accidents happen so I ALWAYS call 1-2 times on the day I’m expecting to hear back just to make sure I do hear something.
So sorry you’re having to wait until Monday though :(

  • @gspmom21 @mhaack92 I saw on the spreadsheet you both are team blue, and I'm just curious how you know already? Is there some blood test super early I don't know about? Not trying to sound snarky, genuinely curious.
  • I'm awake listening to DD cry :(
We're sleep training. I feel so guilty that I don't want to keep night nursing but somethings gotta give. FX she goes to bed soon. Sounds like she's winding down and it's only been a half hour of off and on crying.
  • @Katm89 that's tough to listen to...can you send your SO in to rock her when she wakes? If my son wakes in the night I always send my husband in, because if he sees me then all he wants is the boob and he'll keep waking every night expecting it. When my H goes in, he just settles down and goes back to sleep.

Re doctor's office not calling with results, that's one of the (many) reasons I'm switching this time around. I'm using a midwife practice this time, but torn between a freestanding birth center, or a different group that delivers at a hospital. Anyone here have experience delivering at both a hospital and birth center? I just can't decide!
  • @zande2016 we had DH go in for a while, but she escalates when he leaves.

@zande2016 I had my first in a freestanding birth center, it was an amazing experience.   It's unfortunately closed down now so I would be curious to hear from people who had both experiences as well.   Debating between hospital or home birth this time around.

  • Does anyone have a chart that shows what the normal hcg range is for 4w4d. I can't find it online and I just want to know what's normal before I get my results back.
  • @katm89 There's other charts out there but there's such a range in what's "normal!"
My hcg at 4+1 was 779, at 4+4 it had risen to 2332 but those are on the higher side of normal from what I've read.

  • @julesf817 I tagged you in a comment in FFC!
  • @coco2787 I didn't have a bad hospital experience per say, but I want to avoid all those interventions this time. Also, I am literally still paying off the hospital bill 13 months later, and I know the birth center will be cheaper. My husband is nervous that they send you home 4-12 hours after birth. That's his main hesitation about it. Mine is having no possibility of an epidural.
  • @Katm89 I'm sorry you are having a scare. Hopefully it's nothing! Since there is such a wide range of "normal" it's normally recommended to have tests 48 hours apart to make sure it's rising appropriately.

  • @zande2016 our insurance didn't cover the birth itself at the birth center (but did cover prenatal care with a midwife), but even without insurance the whole bill was $2500.  Going home so soon after labor was a little scary, but the midwife visited at home 24 and 48 hours after birth and was on call to answer questions or come visit sooner.  As a second time mom I would be less nervous about the going home early part.  Labor was hard, but I think you mentally prepare yourself since you know an epidural isn't an option.  If things had gotten too painful I could have asked to go to the hospital, but the thought of changing locations sounded worse to me at the time than just getting through it.

  • @MrsMiller8588 I'm going in for another draw on Monday
  • @coco2787 I'll have to check into insurance. The one we're thinking of using charges 3,500 for prenatal care and 3,500 for the birth...paying 3,500 in full is way better than the 8,000 we owed after insurance last time!
  • Didn’t get to see Thor. The only open seats for the 10 and 10:30 showing were in the front row and my pregnant butt is not handling dizziness well anyways so I don’t need that in my life.
  • @swizz09 oh no I’m sorry!

  • @swizz09 Oh that's a shame. Definitely try and go see it some other time. I found it to be so good. Nothing like any other Marvel movie. Well maybe like Guardians of the Galaxy. :)

  • Update that I left a message for my doctor this morning as soon as the office opened, but I found out the beta results are now posted in the visit summary in the online portal. Not quite double over 48 hrs but increasing and seem to be in normal range, so fingers crossed!
  • @christycalifornia Sorry, I thought that was what we were hoping since it’s too early to know. I’ll change it to finding out.

  • @adventuresawait1 I hear it's double over 2-3 days, so sounds good to me! Yay!

@gspmom21 OH!! That makes perfect sense.  :D I was like, is there some new early test since I was pregnant last?!? Lol
  • @christycalifornia I wish there was a test! I’d be done with my nursery at this point at 4 weeks :D
