Re: Randoms Week of 10/30

  • I am so over this semester in school. I had planned to do one more full time semester thinking it would be my last chance before baby comes...I’m taking five classes people. On top of everything else. And not easy classes - Numerical Analysis, Disrete Structures, blah, blah, blah, more senior level Computer Science stuff. Anyway, semester is over Dec 5th and it can’t come faster.

@EmilyLove25 How’s this semester going as a teacher? Are you over it?

@scatteringashes Aren’t you taking Comp Sci classes too?

  • @caeilievalor I hope the rest of the semester flies by for you! I was in the middle of law school when I had DD and rememer how much I hated going to class.
  • I feel your pain @caeilievalor I've been studying for the CPA exam this entire pregnancy, I'm ready for it to be done so I can just enjoy this time!
  • @caeilievalor I am totally over this semester and honestly have been since it started. I am considering Thanksgiving the beginning of the end since there are only like two weeks after that... I cannot wait!
@TInman87 When do you take the CPA? My DH is an accountant. I remember how busy he was when he was studying!

  • @caeilievalor I'm IT support, so comp sci adjacent but different program. I'd done my degree plan so that this semester would be easier (only 13 hours) before we'd decided to have a baby, since it's my last semester anyway, but booooooy I'm also way over it.

My networking security class kicked my ass this last month in terms of both time and mental energy needed. Thankfully, the reading portions are nearly done and now I just need to practice my hands-on over and over again until I can remember it all, lol.

I'm taking both JavaScript and PHP/MySQL courses, and I'm mostly enjoying those. My other classes are BS degree requirements that I'm kinda sleepwalking through, lol.
  • @EmilyLove25 my last section is in 2 weeks. I've passed 2, I took one about a month ago that I'm waiting for the score on, and then like I said, number 4 is sneaking up on me.  Its brutal! Just hoping to pass so i won't have to study anymore after little one is here.
  • Oh lord... one of my baby cousins is pregnant with her 5th kid (she started early) and is staying at her sister's house (because her sister is the only functional adult in that family & basically runs a B&B/flophouse for whichever sibling is homeless this month) and she thinks her water broke this morning but she doesn't want to go to the hospital yet. Functional Cousin will insist on taking Preggo Cousin to L&D when she gets home from work, if she doesn't get a call sooner, but Preggo Cousin doesn't even have an OB she can call for advice because (1) she lives in Florida and is apparently visiting to have the baby closer to her mom, and (2) apparently hasn't been to any prenatal visits anywhere since confirming the pregnancy. So Functional But Absolutely Not Interested In Having Babies Cousin is asking for advice from the pharmacist she works with, and me and our other cousin who is currently 40+4 pregnant.

  • It just keeps getting better @bainidhedub
  • Yeah, I need to hear how the saga progresses, @bainidhedub. My being nosy, I guess. Are the four other kids in her custody?
  • @cyanope Yeah, I think they must be in FL with dad right now though, not really sure.

  • @bainidhedub yes! i must also know how this plays out, keep us posted!

@cyanope I say have one!  it sounds low-key/chill and they clearly want to throw you a little something, this isn't a case of you begging for a party!  I say let them celebrate you, get you a couple cute outfits for the baby (in my experience no one goes overboard for subsequent babies) and enjoy!  As far as timing, 36 weeks is on the later side, but not too late in my opinion.  I've definitely attended showers for moms farther along than that!

    Baby #4 on the way!
  • @cyanope I had to fight my mother not to have it that late. She seems to think having the shower early enough to actually unpack the gifts before the baby is born is tacky. Our compromise date was 33 weeks. She wanted to go for about 36.
  • @cyanope My mom and SO's aunts are throwing one at 38 weeks pregnant. I am completely stressed about it.
  • @cyanope I think it's really sweet and not gift grabby for them to have a sprinkle for you.

DH says he has something in the works. I have no clue when anything is. But I know that it's not between now and mid/late November because we have plans every weekend and/or the people we would have there will be out of town. So... yeah. I'd like to know when it is because I'd like to look nice for it if possible.

  • Ahh, my doctor's office just sent me birth plan forms to fill out! I can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going!

  • @cyanope I think it's very sweet. I say enjoy. You can always put your foot down about how you don't need anything for this LO.

    @whitta1218 That is super scary
  • @bainidhedub, yes keep us posted. It just seems so crazy. I can't imagine not having any prenatal appointments. I hope it turns out okay.

@whitta1218 so sorry to hear that but glad everyone is okay. I didn't realize that a dryer could start a fire.

@cyanope I agree that it is sweet and not grabby. Enjoy it and anyone who attends will be there because they are excited for the baby and your growing family.
  • My cat has taken it upon himself to start peeing in my Fawn Designs diaper bag... so thats going to be burned now.

  • @maueraa07 being a FTM I still haven't wrapped my mind around this problem, though I'm sure I will understand soon! A co-worker was just complaining about the exact same thing today. I get they are excited to show off their grandbabies...But don't steal the parents thunder!
  • AFM... I'm 31+2 today and DH had contractors out today starting a huge demo/remodel in our house. The bedrooms will be the only untouched rooms throughout the project, meaning EVERYTHING in our house is stored in our room, the nursery, and the guest bedroom. He says it'll be done "in about 2 weeks"....um....let's hope so because he just told his mom we would host thanksgiving here!!!
  • Yes @maueraa07 I do not get this either. I haven't had this issue too much in our family but it is something I was very adamant about being the first to share when DS was born. Although, I think this time I'm going to tell DH that he cannot share until I post. Or at the very least do not tag me because I want to share my way. Last time I was knocked out and before I had regained consciousness he had already shared... and also, hopefully they wont have to use the meds to knock me out since it'll be a planned c-section.

  • Oh yeah @supercoolstephy, that smell will never come out!

@cyanope I think it’s great! I kind of wish there was a small little sprinkle planned for this LO. We don’t need the gifts, but just a little get together to celebrate would be fun.

@maueraa07 I do not understand why they think it's okay! When DS was little, I'd try to send pictures to my dad so he would feel involved since he doesn't live nearby. I had always asked him not to post on social media. I made the mistake of sending him a video of DS rolling over for the first time. I was so excited! He posted it immediately to his Facebook and when I asked him to take it down he said "well you don't know my friends on there it's okay!" No. That's the point. I don't know these people commenting on my son that I shared intimately with you and what if I wanted to post it and be excited about this milestone?! You completely took that away from me. For a while he would make smartass comments about it, so now he gets no pictures.

I understand the not wanting g-parents or others to post birth announcements first,  but I'm a little confused about not allowing them to share later photos or videos? Especially if your friend circles don't overlap?

How does this take the milestone that you saw in person away from you? How does this effect your excitement over that he could roll over,  walk,  etc.? How is this different from when we used to print pictures out and mail them to out of the area family and they would pass them around church or ladies lunch and such?

G-parents are excited and want to share there new grandchild as well.  By "cutting then off " aren't you just creating family drama? Distancing the relationship between grandparent and grandchild and causing a whole lots stress where it isn't needed? As well as putting strain on your own relationship with the grandparents?
