Re: Randoms Week of 10/30

  • @KatieEl thanks for the link! I just signed up, I'm all about the free videos. I had such an easy birth last time that I'm actually more nervous this time around, so hopefully this will help!

  • @cyanope I had to fight my mother not to have it that late. She seems to think having the shower early enough to actually unpack the gifts before the baby is born is tacky. Our compromise date was 33 weeks. She wanted to go for about 36.
Our shower is at 36 weeks, just because that's the way it worked out for finals schedules and whatnot. I'm wary but hoping it'll be chill.
  • @scatteringashes my doctor says we'll be inducing at 37 weeks. I just need more than one week to get things in order. Plus we're getting most of our nursery stuff as "shower gifts" so. I need that stuff before baby comes!
  • @auntieraindrop oh goodness, yes! One week before the baby is waaaaay too late for a shower.
  • I am going to preface this with: I know they are horrible for you and gross and that I should continue not drinking them even after I have LO, but... All I want right now is a Monster. I am so tired that I could definitiely use that caffeine rush right about now. (I am sure LO would just love it, too. *Sarcasm*)
  • @mamaof5already, @leeeahyo, and @maueraa07, I'm going to chime in. I agree that sharing on the internet is different than sharing a printed picture in person. Online is more permanent. I'm totally fine with grandparents and other family members sharing pictures and videos in person (aka the old fashioned way). Something online, I'd like more control. I'm fortunate that my parents and ILs do not post online frequently but if they did I'd have a conversation with them and if they continued I'd probably stop sharing with them and wait till we are in person to show them. I don't think this is should damage the relationship with grandparents. I think it's important to take steps to protect children's privacy in the online technology age. My mom even asks me if she can text a picture to my MIL or other family members. Which I appreciate and we have conversations about what I'm okay sharing via text.
  • The internet discussion is so hard! All my siblings are on FB, several are on IG. I have definitely posted pictures and videos of my nieces and nephew and honestly....because they posted, I never thought to ask permission. (Now if they had specified that they wanted their kids to not be posted about, or if they themselves didn't post, that would be different.)

Ultimately, there won't be a lot about my kids online. My family has thus far limited their posting to photos taken when we are all together and sharing posts of things already posted. For that reason, I think they'll be okay about following my lead.
  • @EmilyLove25 those are really cute
  • What are the odds that anyone else is doing NaNoWriMo?
  • @scatteringashes I haven't done NaNo since the year before DS was born. I was considering it in 2014 but he was 1 month old and... nope. Definitely not happening.

  • Oh an update on my cousin: They got her to the hospital around 9:30 last night (so 12 hours after her water broke) and Benjamin Russell was born at 5:30am. And it sounds like the big kids are up here with her, probably staying at my cousin's house, with one of their uncles watching them overnight.

  • @bainidhedub, glad the little one made it to the world okay.
  • @EmilyLove25 I splurged on book ends too!
  • Anybody else totally fallen off the wagon for working out? It's a terrible excuse, but I'm so uncomfortable so I just can't find the energy or willpower to do anything beyond chase my toddler around.
  • @schaze - yep! I was doing so well with getting a few miles of walking in every day (broken up throughout the day) but it's probably been almost 2 weeks since I've gone on a single walk. I just don't have the energy but I know I need to get back into it! I also started some light strength training a few weeks ago and only lasted a couple of workouts.
  • @schaze Yup, super uncomfortable and exhausted over here.

  • I'm definitely not working out at the same level as I used to (4 days a week) but I've managed to go at least 1-2 times a week. It is hard because 1) I am so freaking uncomfortable and 2) I always need to pee during the class. Honestly, I probably would have given up a while ago, but since I used to go to my gym a lot, I made several friends and since I never see them outside the gym, I go to catch up with them lol.
  • @supercoolstephy and @missblaze I was thinking the same thing. I have no idea why they were attacked like that. It wasn't like they were saying "omg look I'm showing already at 4 weeks!"  I would understand being shut down for that.

  • So, I had a regular checkup with my OB yesterday. My OB has moved practices since the last time I saw her two weeks ago (her partner retired, and so she switched). Her new office is SUPER swanky and nice, so that's a plus. But, when I got there, my OB was WAY behind on appointments and they asked if I wanted to see the other doctor whom I had never met. I had to pick DD up from daycare, so I didn't want to wait any longer and agreed.
Let me start by saying I LOVED the new doctor. She was awesome...until we started talking about weight gain. As of yesterday, I have gained 21 pounds since the start of this pregnancy. The new doctor looked at my chart and said, "well...your weight gain isn't the worst, but it could be better." I was kind of stunned because my usual OB always tells me I'm doing great on the weight gain (even though I feel giant since I only gained 18 lbs. with DD). She then told me I need to work on cutting out sweets, especially during the holidays, to keep my weight gain under control.
I mean...am I TOTALLY out of touch with reality? Or is that just kind of ridiculous? Maybe I could understand it if I had been really overweight to begin with, but I wasn't. And even then, I don't feel like 20 lbs. (with only eight weeks left) is unreasonable. So...what the heck, lady?!? Thanks for making this pregnant woman feel even worse about herself!
  • @cyanope That sounds ridiculous. I think your weight gain sounds like it's completely in an appropriate range, and then to go further imply that your weight gain is due to diet is even more ridiculous. Hopefully your regular doctor is available next time!

  • @schaze at this point im just trying to survive the next 2 months. I'm having a really hard time breathing. And I walk about 7K steps while at work so it's good enough for me.

    @cyanope I think that's crazy!! I think you're doing great
  • Yeah just like that! But my coworker brought me Wendy's so now I'm crying about that.  :D
  • Haha, thanks ladies! Yes, @EmilyLove25, I'll be 32 weeks along on Saturday. So...essentially 8 weeks left. With my last pregnancy, I actually didn't gain a lot of weight towards the end, so I'm hoping that's the case this time around too. Even if I DO gain 10-15 pounds in the next two months, I still don't think that's totally unreasonable. Maybe a little high, but to bring it up like it's a concern (when my regular OB has been telling me I'm doing great) was REALLY deflating!
