Can I rant about something real quick? WHY are horizontal stripes in maternity clothes a thing??? It seems like everywhere, every shirt/dress/etc has horizontal stripes? What about "I feel like a whale" makes companies think I would want horizontal stripes across my belly and boobs???
@attorneyworkproduct I was in law school for my last pregnancy, too. I just gave exactly zero fucks about dressing professionally b/c I was over it. It was last semester of 3LOL.

I actually don't mind during pregnancy. It's all the rest of the time I care about looking like a whale. Lol.

You mean to tell me that neither of you look like this??? Shocking! I like the look, and pretend like I look like this.
I am worrying about the winter jacket thing. I live in Canada so just leaving my coat unzipped is not an option, and my good down coat is really fitted so there's no way it'll fit by the time things get really cold. I guess I just have no choice but to shell out a couple hundred bucks on a coat I'll only wear for a few months? So annoying!

I would hunt in local b/s/t groups or consignment for a good used one before I would fork out double that for new.
My hubs works for H&M so I get a lot there. I got work pants from old navy and Motherhood Maternity in the past. I got a few items from pink blush but mostly for special occasions, like weddings or events. When I'm not at work though I kinda live in leggings and big shirts!
I had had to buy a maternity coat since as an insurance adjuster I tend to have to spend a lot of time outdoors or in buildings with no heat in the winter. I got a relatively inexpensive one from Old Navy for my first pregnancy and used it again last time. I expect to use it again this time
I bought a consignment coat last time (due in mid-Feb), Motherhood Maternity brand, but it was soo not warm since it was 100% polyester. I was in NYC and had to walk everywhere, so I had to wear my husband's hoodie along with the coat. This time, I'm in the 'burbs and hoping to wear my regular coat unbuttoned; I think it'll be fine.
I didn't buy maternity pants until week 20 or 21 last time - what a fool! I will be popping into those things as soon as my pants are tight. I don't have too many clothes, so I'm hoping some friends will let me borrow things. Last time, I had 7 shirts and 1 dress -- just enough to get by. It would be fun to have more, but I just don't want to spend $$ on it.
@ivyvines6 while not maternity specific, I have been wearing the under armour "sheer" thongs, bikini, and hipster underwear. Literally the only thing I am comfortable wearing right now. Got enough to last me night and day for a week.
Maternity pants are an absolute source of frustration for me. I'm short, and really need short length pants, and I'm small, but, I have a butt. I'm the body type that they created curvy styles in size 2 for. But to find short, curvy pants in maternity? Nope. Ugh!

I never bought maternity pants last time because they were all always too big and too long. Short tiny people probs.
Bringing this back to say I just got all 4 of these colors in the mail yesterday and I am in love! JCP is my best kept secret for affordable but good quality maternity clothes.
The description just says long sleeve, but I will tell you that they are more like a light sweater. For reference, because I know buying clothes online can be tricky, I ordered small as a 5'6", 140 lbs at my first appointment, 36D STM. Fit great

Jealous of all the options there seem to be in the US for maternity clothes! I went to the mall here this week to look at what there is and the pickings are extremely slim.
I did pick up a belly band at Motherhood and tried it out yesterday. It didn't really work very well. My pants kept slipping down anyway and I felt like you could see the lumps from the button sitting over to the side even through that and my shirt. Is that just what they are like or are there other better brands?
@thunderberry honestly I would go online. Pink blush has cute cheap stuff. Target has good options too --you have target right??? If no, follow up question--how do you live??? and although mor expensive, for nice stuff, Isabella Oliver from London (order online) is amazzzing
@hollieileen Target came to Canada briefly, screwed up their launch and shut everything down about 18 months later In terms of how I live I JUST DON'T KNOW HOLLIE. I was so sad when they shut down, even though they weren't as good as the American ones. Looks like Pink Blush does deliver to Canada but they say they don't cover shipping or duties, so that makes me nervous! Isabella Oliver does look awesome though, maybe I'll try that if I feel like splurging!
Oh wait their shipping charge to Canada is $50 flat WTF. Is that a joke.
Whhyyy must Canadian shopping suck so much. I think the only answer is DH has to take me to the states on maternity shopping trip!

Totally agree, there are way fewer options in Canada. I'm going to go try some stuff on soon and get sizing ideas and then start ordering online I think. What part of Canada are you in? Is the US close for you? I'm going to look online for Walmart, JCP, Kohls and ship to the US and pick it up.
I got a belly band thing from Thyme Maternity. I hated it at first but after the 2nd time got used to it. I wear it everyday for work now. I have my zipper and button completely undone on my pants because I'm so bloated and I slip that over to hide it. Sometimes I bunch it up a bit to hide the buttons better and for comfort. I wear looser tops too so that helps.
@thunderberry there are a few moms from CA on my BMB from DS. Want me to ask them where they shopped?
Does ASOS or H&M ship to you for a reasonable amount? Or Old Navy or Zulily? Those are all good options, too. Except Zulily takes a long time with shipping.
@babys_2018 I am in Nova Scotia, so the border is not exactly close (about 7 hours to the nearing possible shopping). But we do have some Aeroplan miles saved up so I might try to convince my H to do a weekend in Boston or something as a little vacation. We do have a Thyme not too far from here so maybe I will try their band to see if it's better!
@mileswithmyles Sure thanks if you don't mind! Although if they live more West things might be quite different than here, NS is especially small townish when it comes to shopping. Fortunately we do have H&M though, so I went and checked out their section the other day. It was small but maybe trying online is the way to go. Old Navy isn't so great for work clothes but I'll try the others, thanks!
Attention Canadian moms!! I just bought a winter jacket from Motherhood Maternity. It was $167 and comes with a removable panel so I can wear it post pregnancy. It has a hood, does up with a zipper, has a belt to give you some shape, and is long enough that your bum will stay warm. Not a bad deal if you're looking for a new winter coat anyways. Also I live in Alberta so you best believe we get cold weather here!
Also some Pink Blush products are on sale at Zulily right now. I bought a long sweater for $14.99. they do charge shipping but it's not astronomical by any means.
@thunderberry my condolences on target. That's rough. Ughhhh that shipping is insane!!! Disappointing. I would for sure look h&m online! I never find much in store.

The majority of the good maternity clothes in the US are online only (even Target has way more on its website than in stores) so if you do come, have some stuff delivered to a friend here first to maximize your selection!
Gap maternity is my current favorite. Free returns. And the gap for maternity line is simply and comfy. They did just have a 40% off sale that made the pricing reasonable. And their tanks are perfect.
I am def. Going to go online. The only stores around me (in canada) are going to be expensive. I was disappointed when I saw old navy had only a few items in store with a sign saying to go online. Walmart has totally done away with in store maternity. I never realized how few options there are!
Have any tall ladies found any maternity jeans long enough in length? I'm 6'0 and it's hard enough finding regular jeans. I didn't buy any last time and just used belly bands, but they drove me crazy because they constantly rolled up.
OK, so I didn't end up going online. I ended up buying some tops at h&m, a dress and some tights at old navy, and then I went to thyme maternity...I got a few good items on sale...and I did cave and bought some jeans which were not.
I've tried a few sources now - any TALL moms in here??? Let me help a girl out because this is baby #3 so I'm ahead of y'all on needing maternity clothes, unfortunately.
I tried the Stitch Fix Maternity - I've used stitch fix on and off in the past and usually buy one or two things. But the maternity fixes (got two) were a HUGE BUST. They were clearly put together by someone who had never been pregnant and had no concept of "forgiving" means. Two thumbs down. They apologized and sent me a second free fix, which I also hated.
I also tried the Le Tote Maternity - which was AWESOME!! It's a rental service, essentially, so you can keep the clothes for as short or as long as you like, and if you really like them you can pay and buy them. I've gotten three so far, and everything has been high quality and fit well. They're more detailed on the measurements you send in but less detailed on style. They let you swap out before they ship - so you get more choice on what you get. If you're looking for someone to style for you, probably not the best choice. But I'm looking for someone to send me clothes that fit (because nothing fits me) so I don't have to go shopping. (If you want to try it out - I'll give you a code and you get the first one free!)
I also ordered a bunch of sale clothes from Motherhood Maternity online, ALL of which I returned. The few I kept fell apart on the first wash.
I ordered a bunch of basics from Gap Maternity because I know from last time they were high quality and lasted the whole time through. They are also available online in tall sizes, and as far as I know are the best online tall option. Wait for sales and use coupon codes - you can also get GapCash, which you can use down the line. DON'T buy anything full price.
