  • @whiska I just use generic gummies. No iron in them, I don't think. I am borderline low iron, but my doc just told me to eat iron-rich foods; I guess it is not bad enough for a supplement

  • ok, ladies who have had a cough this pregnancy--what do you do? I have gotten a lot of colds from may daughter this pregnancy, but this one has now become a cough that gets worse at night. I think it is more a post-nasal drip cough than a lung congestion cough, but it is driving me batty. The past 2 nights I have spent sitting up in a recliner because if I lay down, even propped by a bunch of pillows, I can't stop coughing. Even in the recliner I still cough some, and it's not that comfy so I'm working on 2 nights of almost no sleep. My doc approved Claritin D, but it doesn't seem to help the cough, just the head congestion. I've done a nasal rinse, warm shower, cough drops (non-medicated, just luden's-style)--anything else I can do?

  • I currently have a sinus infection and a bad cough @cait5413.  My OB told me I can take any of the Tylenol products or robitussin (just the regular one, I think iTS DM). I have been trying to avoid all that since I'm on antibiotic already but last night, lying awake unable to stop coughing at 3 am, I gave in and took the robitussin and was able to get 4 Hours of sleep.

  • @cait5413 My doc allows Robitussin (Guafenesin) and Vicks (Dextromethorpan) plain syrup for coughs; Tylenol for aches and pains; Chloraseptic/Cepacol/Halls for lozenges for sore throat.  Getting the sore throat under control was the main thing for me.  It's no fun not being able to take the real meds...I cried with envy when my DH got sick and took NyQuil.
  • @cait5413 for cough-specific, my doc allows delsym. not sure how well mucinex DM works for you either. all the things mentioned above by @Amber_Waves are on my allowed list as well but i can't handle most of them whilst pregnancy tastebuds / gag reflux are in control

  • @cait5413 when I had a cough last week she told me only to take honey. Nope. I can’t do that. Yuck! My blood pressure is the issue with why I can’t take the other stuff but you might could try some warm honey and milk (yeah o just gagged thinking about it).

  • Thanks, everyone! My doc just told me I could get some Robitussin or Mucinex, so I will be doing that tonight so I can hopefully sleep! My sore throat has cleared up, thankfully, and the doc says no antibiotic needed unless I get a fever, so hopefully with a little more sleep it will clear up.

  • For those with low iron, my iron has been high pre-pregnancy. I took a look at my diet to see where the iron rich food was coming from. She didn't tell me I had to do this, I'm just proactive.

So.. it turns out, fun, kid cereal is fortified with iron! If you're low on it, it may be an easy place to get some topped up. I generally still eat a bowl a day. I weigh out one serving. :) it's my vice.
  • My vagina hurts SO BAD.
  • @jlemons-2me too. So much pressure in the pelvis and now varicose veins in the vjaja.

  • Woke up to a leg crap from hell yesterday and my calf is still sore from it. Am I correct in remembering people have suggested magnesium supplements for this? Like Natural Calm?

  • @MJDsquared I’ve gotten them a few times at night from stretching so I’ve just been mindful to not do that. Lol. But it’s hard when your half asleep. Last time I did it it stayed crampy for almost a whole day after. I just upped my water  intake. Didn’t even think that was possible with the amount I drink already, lol.  I did hear about the magnesium, I just never looked into it more.
  • Lots of water and then magnesium for leg cramps!  I feel bad for saying it, but I'm glad I'm not alone on the pain.
  • @ShyTonia @jlemons-2 I drink lots of water during the work week but usually slack on weekends. I made sure to drink a lot today! I also ordered some Natural Calm. I’m excited to get it! Hope it helps with the cramps but also regularity and I can always use the calming effect if that part actually works.

  • So glad I am not the only one with vajajay pains. The struggle has been real this weekend. That, and cervix kicks all day every day.
  • Tmor will be 34 Weeks...Anyone else getting Braxton Hicks more regularly? Last night I was up a lot with a tight belly. And it’s ALWAYS the right side (where I know she is the most) and heartburn is just ridiculous right now.

@ShyTonia I’ve been getting tons of Braxton Hicks for weeks now.  I haven’t been counting but I easily get one or two dozen each day, more if I’m a little dehydrated.  My whole belly tenses up and the baby looks like a giant tumor on the right side where he hangs out. They’ve always been uncomfortable but they’re starting to be a little more painful and come with more of a cramping sensation now.  I’ve read and been told not to worry about it and that you’ll know for sure when it’s no longer false labor.  Can’t offer much advice other than to drink lots of water, but I commiserate!  Hang in there!

  • I've read this normal but my MIL is insisting I call the doctor tomorrow anyway - anyone else experiencing racing heart whenever they stand up/walk, some dizziness, shortness of breath-  I asked my diabetic counselor if it had to do with my sugars but she said no given my numbers.

  • If it's every time, no I don't think that is normal. Sometimes, yes. This is of course just my opinion
  • @Marley629 I get all those symptoms too, but I think it's related to my anemia. I would be sure to mention it to your doctor, because it could also be a BP issue or something more serious.
  • @Marley629 I have shortness of breath and racing heart every once in a while. Sometimes a little bit of dizziness. But not 24/7 or every time I walk/stand up. The only time I've actually been concerned was one day I had a severe dizzy/lightheaded episode (but I was in the waiting room at the OB at the time--when I saw her and told her she was kinda just like, "oh" lol).

  • @Piccola1988 ok lots of water! I feel like all I do is drink water and pee. Lol. And yes that’s what I’m told too that we will know the difference for sure. Ha! I think I read somewhere that if you get more then 4 in one hour to call your Dr.
  • @Marley629  Sometimes the stress and increased blood flow/pressure from pregnancy can unmask an arrhythmia you didn't know you had.  Better have it checked out just to be safe!
  • Re: Braxton Hicks
My doc/midwife also said no more than 4 in an hour, and I feel like at night I get way more than 4. But they're never increasing in length or pain or anything, so I figured I'm in the dehydrated category. Now that we have appointments *all the time* I figured I'll bring it up if there's time.
  • Ugh, I feel a nasty cold coming on. This would be my 3rd since April. :( DH had it all last week and I thought I managed to not catch it, but today I'm congested and my throat feels swollen and my eyes are burning. Noooo, I do not have time for this! Pray to the gods of strong immune systems for me, ladies... please please let this be a near-miss.

  • @djd0404 I have a cold right now.. Ugh...

I tried to blow my nose while sitting on the toilet today... Thought I was going to blow my ute right out, holy pressure! Do not try this at home... except maybe while in labor...

  • @jlemons-2 So my calf cramp has lessened every day, but I’m guessing it would’ve with or without the Natural Calm. And since this was my first cramp, if I don’t have any more I can’t really be sure if it was due to the NC. BUT I did poop twice today (after a few weeks of being much less regular than I’d like)...so I’m sold on it. lol.

I ordered the NC on Saturday morning and it somehow arrived Sunday morning, so I’ve taken it for three days now. Also, I got the raspberry lemonade powder and it’s not bad! (I do it cold.)

  • @MJDsquared & @jlemons-2 I LOVE Natural Calm! I've been drinking it for years and its been a life saver this pregnancy.  I'll add it with an electrolyte drink to, like Body Armor or Advocare Rehydrate, and I can tell the next morning. My leg pain is significantly lessened... and I'm regular again. Which I won't complain about. ha!

My weird symptom is my hands.  My fingers are a little swollen but I've notice my second knuckle from the top will be "white" while the rest of my finger will be pink to red.  It's the weirdest thing! I move my hands a lot too. And it's extra bad after I go for a walk.
  • When you google "baby kicking me in the butt" and what comes up is "is the baby kicking my butthole?" That is like, some next level accuracy.  Way to go baby lol.

I have been hit with really rough fatigue.  My sleep the last three nights has seemed inadequate so this morning I called in sick to work.  H then told me he was worried overnight because my breathing was so loud and labored it was waking him up!  So yeah, sounds like my sleep has not been restful enough.  Then I decided to try to get some errands done and about started crying in the grocery store because I was so tired and it's upsetting to think I might feel this way from now until baby is here.  I still have so much to do and I was counting on, you know, a modicum of energy to do it!  Fx my energy comes back soon!

  • @whiska (((hugs))) I have not been sleeping well either. It’s just been off. It too upsets me that this is just the norm for now. So for me now more then ever I am saying no to things and am being all about me.(and preparing for Adaline’s arrival etc.) DH wants me to just enjoy the rest of the pregnancy and stop working( which I technically can) but don’t know why I feel so guilty doing so lol. Hope you can get some more downtime to build your energy back up! Xo
  • Can we just reiterate the hemorrhoid symptoms for a moment? I thought mine were clearing up, but apparently the second I stop eating only high fiber foods, they come back. This is getting ridiculous.
  • @Skcobb solidarity, girl. Do you have a squatty potty or a stool to lift your feet while you're on the toilet? I find it makes things a lot better for me. I mean... don't get me wrong, it doesn't completely eliminate them, but they are fewer and farther between and smaller when they do crop up!

  • Anyone with an anterior placenta suddenly feeling more movement around 31/32 weeks?  As of yesterday I’m feeling big movements a lot more often now increased movement a cause for concern or just decreased?

  • @kaylawing I had a partial anterior placenta with DD1, and remember suddenly feeling her everywhere later in pregnancy. For me, it felt like she had just gone through a big growth spurt and was taking up more room, so it was easier to feel her. Add in that they're packing on more muscle at this point, and it makes for stronger movements. If it's concerning you, I'd still reach out to your doctor's office for peace of mind!
  • @kaylawing Hi! Anterior placenta here and yes, there was definitely a point where there was a marked difference in what I was feeling. Around 30 weeks for me. I think the fetus reached a size where when he/she was partying, they were banging on both sides of my belly AND got enough muscle that indirect hits to my bladder and cervix and ribs were registering (not just direct hits). This is also around the time where movement became visible from the outside.
  • @kaylawing Oooh yes, I have an anterior placenta and I went from cute little flutters all the way up through week 30-ish (hard to remember exactly, the weeks get so blurry) to very strong movements/punches/bladder kicks almost overnight. For the longest time I had no idea what everyone was talking about when they were saying the baby's movements were getting uncomfortable, I was like "naah, this is so adorable and easy!", but boy does it happen when it happens. Some days I have to stop and sit down because the intensity of his movements while I'm trying to walk is almost too much.

Like @Skcobb said, best to call your provider if you're concerned, but just letting you know you're definitely not alone.

  • Question: Does anyone else's employer not accept FMLA until after the baby is born? Mine is all set up, but DH's work told them he can't get it signed/approved until after the baby is born. And he has to go in to do it. I thought maybe it was just because he doesn't personally have a medical reason for leave (like, maybe this is what they do with partners/adoptive parents) but his female coworker who did in fact give birth had to go into the office after giving birth to do it!

It's not too big of a deal since I don't have to go in, I just think it's pretty ridiculous, especially to make a woman come in to work very recently postpartum to get paperwork signed. And I'm curious if this is a bigger thing than I've heard about.
