  • @mileswithmyles I would've LOVED that!  We were outside Buckingham Palace and after the Changing of the Guard people told us to wait because the Royal Family was on the way, and then some people said, oh there's the car, but of course we couldn't see inside it so had no way of knowing if it actually was or not.  Then we got bored and left.  There was still a big crowd by the time we got over to Westminster Abbey, but as far as I know there wasn't anyone famous left LOL

  • @sandbar517 I was dying!  And my running buddy has the biggest crush on him, so I was snapping pics like crazy.  It was so cool.  He is so much taller than I expected.  He's shorter than William and I just assumed he was short, but he isn't.
  • @ivyvines6, nursing is exactly why I did cosleeping! DS was a slow weight gainer so I had to nurse him every 2 hours during the day and every 4 at night. When your child nurses for 45 minutes and you have to wake up again 3 hours later, you get every second of sleep possible...even if it's only across the hall to the nursery. I'm more nervous about BFing than labor!

  • I was totally against sleep training before I had kids. Then I had a baby who at 5 months was still waking every hour and I was losing it. And not in the funny, "I'm losing my mind! Haha!" way but like literally I couldn't form thoughts or drive and I would randomly burst into tears.... but I still have great reservations about doing it much before 6 months and can state with certainty that I would never use an extinction method.
Your last sentence is on point. I can see maybe doing it a bit before 6mo but sleep training any earlier is not recommended. Baby needs to eat.

@ceridwen77 at 5m we were not trying to achieve 12 hours, just some ability to connect sleep cycles. We settled on bedtime at 7 and no nursing before midnight. And as she got older we pushed that later until she randomly started skipping the feeding on her own periodically, then we night weaned officially.

I’ve got to try something like this with this little one. This is some great advice.
  • How far along are you?  11w1d

How old are your other kids? 18mon]

Current challenges/concerns about being a STM+ or questions about things your children are going through now? I am my son's favorite toy, and I wonder how I am going to guard the belly once it gets bigger.

Current joys/successes/or happy thoughts about being a STM: Right now, Viking's face lights up when he sees me come home from work or greet him in the morning.  I can't wait until his face lights up for the new sibling (even if it takes a while to get there)

GTKY:  Tell us about your favorite vacation.  We're boring.  My favorite may have been our week in Minneapolis for my first serious job interview.  We ate at the Mall of America every day.  They were having  a Star Trek exhibit on the top floor of the mall.  I thought it was way too expensive, but DH insisted, and 2 years later I am so glad he did!  It gives me goosebumps just to think about being that close to the actual costumes and props used in my favorite shows.

As to CIO/Ferber, I didn't do it with Viking because it just felt wrong for him.  He was a very good sleeper, and for tough nights we co slept.  What will I do for the next kid?  I have no idea!  I was amazed how strong the mommy instinct was with Viking.  I fully expect #2 will have very different needs and I will try very different things.

  • Has anyone had a corpus luteum cyst before?  They found one during my NT scan and made it seem like no big deal.

Stuck in box. Haven't had one (yet -- my NT scan is on Halloween), but I'm pretty sure I just skimmed something in What to Expect that also said it was no big deal.

  • Hahahah, the most sleep training could do with my first was get him down from 12+ wake ups a night to 4-5.  He was such an awful sleeper.

  • @mileswithmyles I’m so jealous you saw Prince Harry! He was just in Toronto a couple of weeks after we left, I was bummed.

On the topic of sleep...with DS I didn’t have the heart to let him CIO. He had some health issues when he was a few days old that I think kind of messed with me mentally. I couldn’t handle hearing him cry. I used to hold him when he’d wake at night until he fell asleep, which sometimes took awhile. At some point (I have no idea how old he was) when he was going through a particularly bad stretch I made DH get up with him and that’s how he ended up cosleeping. To this day he sleeps in his crib but once he wakes up at night he comes to our bed. We’re getting him a twin soon and praying that he will stay there!
  • DS is almost 2.5, he was a good sleeper at first and once I went back to work at 13 weeks it all went out the window. It wasn't until we hit 13 months old that I deemed it necessary to sleep train. And it worked in a matter of days and the boy was sleeping through the night.  I will probably try to sleep train this one a little sooner, once I started sleeping again I became a new person.
