@kiwi2628 If nothing tragic happens this cycle, I'm bizarrely considering banging out another cycle and doing a fresh transfer in Dec.... right now my cycles are free except copay and extras.... Either way so hoping to do some sort of transfer in Dec... yay cycle month buddy!!! @aera11 I know!!
I am still here, reading daily about everyone's updates. Haven't had too much going in IF world the last week or two, except trying to get my records to my new RE for him to review and trying hard to get a follow-up as quickly as possible. And at last, I succeeded, Initially my appt was scheduled for November 7th, so I assumed that it would take approx. a week for insurance, so we would not be starting IVF until late November at the latest. But he had a cancellation next week and even though we had a trip planned, I was able to rearrange our stays so we can go to NH for a few nights at the start of the week, come home on Tuesday for the IVF consult/follow-up and go to the second part of our trip Tuesday or Wednesday. I am so excited to have my appt on Tuesday, can't wait and hopefully will be able to get started in early November and possibly have a transfer by end of year (fingers crossed because we already know I have to do FET). Just looking forward to a new RE with a different perspective, when I had a consult with him in May I was really impressed with his suggestions on things we may try to improve outcomes. Now I just need to review the 40-50 page IVF consent handbook by our appt next Tuesday.
It's exciting to see a couple people already getting started and also getting medications. I remember the first time I got my meds in the mail, November of last year and oh was it terrifying and amazing at the same time!
@emmasemm Sorry you are feeling so crappy, it takes my body a long time to recover from the medications. I actually had a nutritionist tell me recently the side effects, and especially the lingering ones are liver related and that it takes long for certain people to process these medications. She recommended a low fat diet, mostly fruits, vegetables and lean protein and lots and lots of water. I had so many symptoms during my FET cycle, obviously now I know they were all side effects from the progesterone, but today is CD2 for me (and I've been off the PIO for 7 days now) and still nauseous, cramps, occasional dizziness. I know it must be even harder being in a different country, but try to rest and try to eat small frequent meals and drink plenty of fluids.
@emmasemm I'm on bc for 21 days, for the suppression purposes
@dragonette505 noted. I'm relatively young, but my RE does it as a matter
of course before both the ER and the FET (though the FET is more
associated with some of my lining issues).
@dragonette505 I'm
here and will participate, I swear! I was mostly holding off because I
wasn't sure until last night that we were going to make Nov, it was just
my hope.
Edit: to fix my prior statement, it came out weird.
@dragonette505 Hopefully we will be starting in the next couple of weeks. I'm traveling for work next week which is annoying timing but we are still on track for Nov.
We are just got the final contract today and are signing and emailing back to the attorney. Once she has it she sends a clearance letter to my clinic and we can finally start. I emailed my nurse today to tell her to be on the lookout for the clearance letter and find out what will happen next. Since I'm away most of next week I'm hoping maybe we can time it that I stop BCP while I'm away so I can go in for baseline as soon as I get back.

@dragonette505- congrats on getting started again!! Miss you in nov FET! I hope this is your best cycle yet and we both end up in PAIF by Xmas

@JamieH2000 I'm totally still lurking there all day! lol... just leaving the space to comment to yall (for the moment... any big things happen and i'm on it!!) lol
@emmasemm supposedly ganirelix as you are coming off OCP before stims helps keep a lead follicle from developing so that as you stim the follicles will all be closer in size.

@dragonette505 That's for sure! I can tell DH but he doesn't seem to quite understand some of the stuff. Which I can kind of understand because he isn't having it happen to him.
@baseballhoney, @dragonette505, yay we are all going to be very close cycle buddies! 1 week today until baseline. I start ganirelix this Sunday and Tuesday is my last OCP!. My stims start next Sunday the 29th.
TMI I finished bleeding for 17 days straight on this OCP, and was finally able to have sex again and boom yeast infection. Fml....
Excited to get started! Who all is doing fresh transfers? We are not, RE says better success for us with FET. Planning transfer in mid January. That's going to feel like a long wait, but my Doc is amazing and I trust her judgement.

@baseballhoney Also I feel like with our partners, we rely upon them so much... I love that I don't have to overburden him with my daily (and sometimes moment to moment) IVF struggles.
@steph8986 ooo, the 29th!! I can start stimming anytime from the 27th to 11/1. My doc likes to wait to start stimming till the follies are a bit larger, so I will estrogen prime until she wants me to start. No fresh transfer for me either. My doc also prefers FET's, but in this case my doc says I have a polyp that needs to be removed so I will have to wait till hopefully just the next cycle. Sorry about the YI! Hopefully it goes away fast!
@dragonette505 So true about not burdening our partners. I start stimming on the 29th too @steph8986. I am starting with follistem for the first few days. I have another US and blood work scheduled for the 31st and will get more instructions that day. I am doing a fresh transfer.
@kiwi2628 that really sucks about "going through the motions" of treatments just to get to the treatment that's really indicated... I listened to some podcasts the other week which both touched on the BSC logic that insurance companies use... Though this week sitting on my EMBA course we were tasked to think where we could use consulting to support a different industry... and I reckon there is a gap in the market for some of us really well clued up IF ladies to earn good money advising insurance companies on their IF policies. Theres some great statistics to show them how they would earn more profit mid-term by letting majority of patients go straight to IVF if they want to. Anyone care to start a side-business with me???
@artemis618 thanks! I did actually get some herbs as a local colleague took me to the herbalist she uses. I just needed something to stop the damn nausea. It actually was mostly ginger apparently. And I now have something for tea, for sucking on, for rubbing on my wrists... I have an acupuncture appointment lined up when I'm back in Germany (as my RE also thinks it's a good idea)
@aera11 yes got all my meds ready and waiting at home! The ginger/herbs are helping but if it hits I just have to lay down for an hour until it passes. We thought the vaginal progesterone was best as it doesn't have to
@steph8986@baseballhoney@dragonette505 I'm hoping to start stims around nov 3rd but I will likely only stim 7-10 days max so ER should be around the same time I guess! @bethann1022 sounds like you might only be a week or so behind us if all goes well next week!
@steph8986 ah I get it with the Ganirelix - think I just haven't been at the start of the cycle with anyone coming of bcp- makes sense! And if I get any eggs, if they fertilize, if I have any embies, then we will do a fresh transfer. If I have one we will do day 2, if I have two and at least one looks like it's strong we will do day 3, if I have more than 2 (which for me will be a freaking miracle) then we would try to grow the strongest looking ones to day 5 and freeze whilst transferring the two weakest ones on day 2 or 3. Which means I have to take the day off for ER and then maybe need a day off 2 or 3 days later for ET - or maybe not... Oh and no Sunday transfers, so if Sunday is day 3 we would do Saturday and if it is day 2 would have to do day 3. Because why not make it even more complicated than it already is ;-)

@emmasemm I actually wish the total cost would come down for IVF in general... its all so outrageously expensive because these practitioners have the market locked up... no other doctor can do this stuff... there is only minimal competition between actual clinics as I find pricing tends to correspond to quality of treatment. And of course we are all trying to get the highest quality we can afford. But even what I would call inexpensive IVF is totally expensive for the women paying at those clinics. We are all getting robbed by our clinics (relative to our incomes and care that we can afford). I am lucky that at the moment I have a yearly deductible (I think its a couple thousand bucks) with the rest being totally covered except copays (and any extras I choose to throw in like picsi or HGH which I pay full price oop). How crazy is that??? I know some women who can only afford to do ONE cycle... If that were my case I would have been out a year and a half ago. Its not right.... And its really just based on what insurance you are lucky enough to have through your employer... (here in America, anyway).
@dragonette505 oh yes to all of that! I'm often torn between not mentioning what we pay per cycle as I don't want to make everyone jealous and shouting it from the rooftops so you can all use it to negotiate with your clinics!
Special trigger warning for IVF cost in Germany
First three cycles are paid 50% for "standard" IVF by insurance (and everyone has insurance - it is mandatory and low income families have it paid by the state and subsidized by higher income citizens) After that you pay 100% ICSI is approx 1500 EUR per cycle (I think there is a max number of eggs but more than 8) Assisted hatching is approx 200 EUR per ER independent on number of embryos Standard protocol - no BCP, no priming, 225 GonalF 12 days, 3 Ganirelix and the trigger plus progesterone, fresh sperm sample incl washing etc, ER with anesthesia, baseline and monitoring, ET, beta, follow up - around 3000 EUR So my first cycle we paid 50% of 3000 EUR i.e. 1500 EUR And even if we had paid for it in full it would only have been 3000 EUR If you add in Menopur it would apparently be around 600-800 EUR more depending on quantity- and of course if you use 450 Gonal F then you double the price of that which comes to around another 1000. But even so no way I could in comparison match it to the $15-20k I see quoted in US clinics (excl PGS) - max 7500eur for an all singing all dancing cycle (incl meds - some clinics offer that sort of price level excl meds I think) PGS and PGD is only allowed when there is a proven issue, and then I believe it is covered by insurance

@emmasemm I guess I'll spoiler mine too My current clinic is not out of control as far as pricing... average cycle is about 10K . I did a consult with 2 other clinics...one average cost of cycle 15K and the other about 20K and neither taking insurance. My new clinics prices:
I paid 10 dollars for my office visits and my medicine copay was about 30-40 bucks...I paid for picsi oop (1k) and HGH (almost 800 bucks) oop. That's it... My anesthesia was covered as well as embryo freezing. it looks like I went for monitoring 6 times, so 60 bucks was the cost of my ivf cycle plus my extras and meds...... 60 bucks..... that's insane, to be honest.
@dragonette505 seems like you did some good shopping around price-wise! I guess it helps being in NYC where there are multiple good quality clinics and there is some competition between the clinics due to larger demand concentrated in one area
Did you look at any multiple deal packages?

@emmasemm I did absolutely nothing.... it was really and truly just luck for the most part. I had no idea just how good my insurance was when I took this job. Most people take jobs for the work and the lift in salary. That’s basically what I did. Turns out really good insurance comes with it. But if you’re not lucky nyc can be terribly expensive for ivf for the best quality service... this all may not work for me, but I will know I had the best docs in the biz working with me. The only way I could do better perhaps is at CHR, which doesn’t take my insurance (not sure if they do at all...) and each cycle is gonna cost you like 25k I believe. That’s probably including meds (which I will still be covered for) ETA: I didn’t look at multi packages because it doesn’t make sense in my case
if every cycle costs less than 100 bucks, there’s no need to do that. I think each year I may have to meet my yearly deductible again in 2018, but still I don’t think it makes sense to do Multis. Probably something to consider if I went to a place that didn’t take my insurance
Hi all! Just popping in now- I am currently in my third IUI cycle (the actual IUI was this past Thursday) and hoping it works out, BUT just had my IVF consult with my RE since that’s our plan for next cycle if this doesn’t work. I’m 31 but I have low AMH/DOR. My RE said we could immediately start with IVF next cycle, which would be the first week in Nov, so I’m not sure but I may be joining this group! The plan would be for a fresh transfer in November. I guess I’m not doing any priming. Just wanted to introduce myself - new to IVF and reading your posts is really helpful!
It’s crazy how the costs can be so different! And really unfair. My insurance doesn’t cover ANYTHING. Some of my meds are covered with a copay through my prescription insurance (like my follistim and ovidrel for my IUI) but that’s it. @emmasemm and @dragonette505 you are so lucky!
Good luck to everyone getting started already! Fx for you!
@mac672 welcome!!! And yes! This situation with the cost of ivf and insurance coverage is BS. If I lose my job, I’m screwed. If my company changes our coverage limits, I’m screwed. If I can’t pay the yearly deductible, I’m screwed, but currently, I’m unbelievably lucky.... and it’s just that.... luck. Hoping your iui has done the trick for you, but lovely to have you join in while you wait and join us if you end up needing the ivf
Welcome @mac627! I agree insurance is crazy. I get a couple of my meds covered, like the estrogen and part of the progesterone. And maybe the monitoring appointments have some coverage (we will have to see) for the IUIs they were partly covered. But otherwise we are all out of pocket. It sucks!
@emmasemm Oh I am with you ladies! Just taking a much needed break from the boards and focusing on the farm. This year, with IVF taking over most of our time (money, etc... what else did it consume... our sanity... um...) the farm and property really suffered. With me on meds most of the year, I couldn't keep up with the garden or do half of the physical labor I am used to doing and everything kinda went to shit. Now I am working double time trying to get everything situated for winter before AF arrives and I start this new protocol.
Have no fear, I am here with you! (just only popping in every so often, which this morning I realized it had been over a week! EEK!)
DH heads out on business for this whole week, so most likely you will see me bitching about chickens or pests or chores (even though I love every second of it hehehe)
Sorry to hear about the chaos of China. I haven't fully caught up on all of the posts so I am hoping you are feeling better!!!
@laurad75 Hello again! Nice to see you are almost at the end of the legal mumbo jumbo! I was lurking in DE for a while and have been keeping up on your progress through the process
@cmiller73 so good to have you with us! Long story short - after some IV fluids and rest I'm feeling much better - dehydrated and low blood pressure. So now trying to enjoy this week before back to the chaos of work and stimming next week! Although we only have a small plot relatively, I am so behind on my outdoor jobs as I was totally out of action after ET last time. So when we're back I've got to do all my winter cutting back in the garden - if not my rose bushes will be completely out of control next year! And if I don't do it DH doesn't have much finesse as he prefers the chain saw... ahhh...
AFM as I'm feeling better I'm hoping to enjoy these days away with DH showing him all my old haunts in Beijing. I'm gradually remembering all the Chinese I learnt whilst I was here (I say "all" what I mean is all I needed to survive lol!)
Keeping fx that everyone stays on track for planned start dates - a week from now it starts getting "fun"!

@emmasemm yes, dehydration post retrieval can be a big issue (plus fluid imbalance ) So glad you got it sorted! We will be gardening this weekend too (also trimming our roses). We suck, but we keep at it November is so close now!! It strikes me that my period is coming likely in a couple days so here it comes!! OMG! I am soooo hoping I can start stimming sooner than later
@steph8986 We are doing a fresh transfer with our DE
cycle. My RE insisted on frozen when we
were using my eggs (we didn’t ever do a transfer) but he’s all for fresh right
now with this cycle
November is so close! I got some good news today that our legal clearance letter was sent to my clinic so I should be hearing from my nurse soon with next steps. I'm really hoping for a calendar.

@laurad75 yup... that's me all over... I'm the gal who thought she was transferring this month I guess I feel like its time for you to catch a break here... I cant even imagine how much legal stuff there is with ED (but y'all know i'm keeping my peepers open on y'alls process... I'm learning!) But there has to be some point when all the durn papers are signed and all the durn procedures are approved... so hoping its all tied up shortly. I cant remember... are you using fresh or frozen eggs (I'm guessing its more complicated with fresh). I *should* (there goes my pessimism again!) be getting my period on Wednesday (but watch that old witch drag her feet and come late!) and then it still depends.... In all my other cycles I basically started stims on CD3... with this new doc, she will coast you on estrogen till she likes the follicle size. Last cycle I didn't start stims till CD7!!! ugh... But she did say my follies look bigger this go round than last time at this point, so hoping I go earlier... She def wants me to be ready to stim earlier if she determines I'm ready
@dragonette505 Thank you for saying that, it would be nice to catch a break. The donor process is long and so so complicated. I keep saying I'm going to type out everything that happened in a time line as a resource for other women who are getting started. I was told that the cycle would be about 12 weeks after we chose our donor and that is looking pretty accurate but I don't think I really understood the timeline and that would have helped. The legal stuff was thankfully pretty easy because we had to choose an attorney who specializes in 3rd party reproduction and there's not that many of them so our attorney has worked with this donor agency and the attorney representing our donor before so they were working from a template. We only had a few customized sections. Egg donation is so new that there aren't any laws to protect the donor or the intended parents (us) so the contract is super important with no room for confusion. Crazy shit.
I don't remember if you go to acupuncture but my acupuncturist can jump start my period if it doesn't come when I want it to. Just sayin...

@laurad75 I do go to acu, and my lady was going to try to force my o early so I could get going, but I think that's just how wonky my body is between ivf cycles. I always o around CD24 (instead of CD18) after ivf. I'm on 11 DPO so I'm *pretty* sure i'll start AF on wed. lol I just don't trust my body not to throw monkey wrenches lolol I'm still so bummed I cant transfer so even a delay of a day pisses me off
Re: November IVF
@aera11 I know!!
@dragonette505 I'm here and will participate, I swear! I was mostly holding off because I wasn't sure until last night that we were going to make Nov, it was just my hope.
Edit: to fix my prior statement, it came out weird.
@zwink1 so glad you’ll be November!!! It’s actually all so close now!!
@Aera11 Yes, the plan is a fresh transfer.
@dragonette505 did you start meds?

Excited to get started! Who all is doing fresh transfers? We are not, RE says better success for us with FET. Planning transfer in mid January. That's going to feel like a long wait, but my Doc is amazing and I trust her judgement.

No fresh transfer for me either. My doc also prefers FET's, but in this case my doc says I have a polyp that needs to be removed so I will have to wait till hopefully just the next cycle.
Sorry about the YI! Hopefully it goes away fast!
@laurad75 oh fx on all that final paperwork!
@aera11 yes got all my meds ready and waiting at home! The ginger/herbs are helping but if it hits I just have to lay down for an hour until it passes. We thought the vaginal progesterone was best as it doesn't have to
@steph8986 @baseballhoney @dragonette505 I'm hoping to start stims around nov 3rd but I will likely only stim 7-10 days max so ER should be around the same time I guess!

Special trigger warning for IVF cost in Germany
After that you pay 100%
ICSI is approx 1500 EUR per cycle (I think there is a max number of eggs but more than 8)
Assisted hatching is approx 200 EUR per ER independent on number of embryos
Standard protocol - no BCP, no priming, 225 GonalF 12 days, 3 Ganirelix and the trigger plus progesterone, fresh sperm sample incl washing etc, ER with anesthesia, baseline and monitoring, ET, beta, follow up - around 3000 EUR
So my first cycle we paid 50% of 3000 EUR i.e. 1500 EUR
And even if we had paid for it in full it would only have been 3000 EUR
If you add in Menopur it would apparently be around 600-800 EUR more depending on quantity- and of course if you use 450 Gonal F then you double the price of that which comes to around another 1000.
But even so no way I could in comparison match it to the $15-20k I see quoted in US clinics (excl PGS) - max 7500eur for an all singing all dancing cycle (incl meds - some clinics offer that sort of price level excl meds I think)
PGS and PGD is only allowed when there is a proven issue, and then I believe it is covered by insurance

My current clinic is not out of control as far as pricing... average cycle is about 10K .
Did you look at any multiple deal packages?

ETA: I didn’t look at multi packages because it doesn’t make sense in my case
It’s crazy how the costs can be so different! And really unfair. My insurance doesn’t cover ANYTHING. Some of my meds are covered with a copay through my prescription insurance (like my follistim and ovidrel for my IUI) but that’s it. @emmasemm and @dragonette505 you are so lucky!
Good luck to everyone getting started already! Fx for you!
dx: DOR
8 cycles Clomid (1 BFP & MC)
IVF #1
Hoping your iui has done the trick for you, but lovely to have you join in while you wait and join us if you end up needing the ivf

November is so close now!! It strikes me that my period is coming likely in a couple days so here it comes!! OMG!
I am soooo hoping I can start stimming sooner than later
@steph8986 We are doing a fresh transfer with our DE cycle. My RE insisted on frozen when we were using my eggs (we didn’t ever do a transfer) but he’s all for fresh right now with this cycle
@mac627 Welcome!
November is so close! I got some good news today that our legal clearance letter was sent to my clinic so I should be hearing from my nurse soon with next steps. I'm really hoping for a calendar.

I don't remember if you go to acupuncture but my acupuncturist can jump start my period if it doesn't come when I want it to. Just sayin...
