Re: Symptoms, Questions, Concerns - 10/9

  • @elcd458 I know. It’s so weird. Well they upped my meds last Monday. It has been fine but I wondered if I either bottomed our today or if it got to high. I had a massive headache but Tylenol got rid of it so it wasn’t BP related. Going to the dr in the AM. Maybe he will have some answers.

  • ashtynmo - When I was taking iron supplements, the ONLY thing that relieved my constipation was eating lots of yogurt or taking an Acidophilus supplement (basically yogurt's active ingredient in pill form). Prunes all day long didn't help at all. According to my MIL, there are different kinds of iron that you can take, and some are more likely to cause constipation issues. As long as I eat some yogurt every day, I dont get constipation (and therefore hemorrhoids). Hope you find something that works!
  • Today makes two days in a row where I've desperately been craving a Coke Zero after lunch (and I'm not able to get one). My office doesn't have vending machines, but supposedly we're getting one (with Coke products) tomorrow or Friday. I'm not sure if I should hope they have Coke Zero or not because I might just spend all my money on it if they do...

  • File this under concerns...
My boobs have done [what feels like] nothing.  I was a small 34A and I'm maybe a 36A now, mostly due to my ribcage expanding because the band of my bras feel so tight.  During first tri and maybe up until 15 weeks they were pretty sore so I was hopeful something was happening, but there has been so little growth.  H thinks they're bigger and maybe I see a bit of a change when I'm lying down, but I'm getting concerned I'm not going to be able to nurse.  I may have had some colostrum crusting around 19 weeks but nothing since.

Anyone with experience here?  With smaller breasts or maybe breasts that didn't do anything until delivery and were still able to nurse?  Are things like leakage before delivery actually less common than all the apps make it out to be?

  • @whiska I have a friend who never made it to a B cup with all 3 of her pregnancies, but was able to nurse just fine. Your body does constantly produce milk after the first few days, so you may see some change after delivery. I would still mention it to my doctor if it's a big concern for you, though! Peace of mind is always worth it.
  • @whiska I have the opposite problem in that my boobs are huge (my 38H bras are just barely fitting at this point).  However, I never leaked while pregnant or after delivery and I breast fed my DS for 8 months. Also, from everything I’ve heard/read breast size has no relation to whether or not you can breastfeed.  So hopefully you’re just like me and dont leak!
  • @whiska  I was a 36C with DS1 and I never leaked before delivery. I actually think it's more common not to leak beforehand but that just might be in my circle of friends/family.   That said, I produced a lot of colostrum via pumping in hospital after delivery that even the nurses were impressed so my Lack of leaking prior to delivery didn't affect my supply.

  • Please don't worry about the size. Milk doesn't come in until after baby is born and colostrum just isn't much right now. My boobs didn't get much bigger until I had my first and I nursed her for 15 months. With this pregnancy they haven't changed at all yet. I'm big chested but I don't think that changes anything.

@whiska breast size has NOTHING to do with breastmilk production. I never leaked prior to delivery with DS and I overproduced like crazy. What DOES influence production is stress, so try and relax and trust that your body knows what its doing. (I know, easier said than done)

  • @GraysonsMama That's super frustrating.  Kind of like how they won't let you opt out of the STD testing during pregnancy, ugh.
  • Question (and potentially a really dumb one):  A lot of the popular threads right now are making me think about the time immediately prior to, in, and immediately following the hospital. My question is how soon will my body act not pregnant again after having the baby? I don't know yet the method (vaginal / c-section), but my main question is will my abdomen basically just turn 'fat' instead of pregnant immediately? Will I be able to sleep on my back right away? Will the heartburn / acid reflux from the crowding be better right away? Will my digestive system fire back up (I.e. BMs without major laxative intervention)?

My stomach went down quickly but I flabby and yucky. Haha. I never lost the c section shelf. One thing that surprised me was that I stayed swollen for a few weeks. You retain water after pregnancy. I assumed when o had her my feet and legs would go back to normal. Nope not the case.

  • I am so tired of being told I need the rhogam shot. I am rh- but so is dh so it's not necessary. I didn't get it with my other two. This is a different ob and at my last 4 appointments someone has tried to convince me that I need it. A nurse just called me and acted annoyed when I told her dh was negative so I wouldn't be getting it. I understand that some people may lie about paternity but come on. I can prove dh's rh and I'll sign a waiver if necessary. Just leave me alone!

Edited: I just realized this is not a symptom, question, or concern... Please forgive my oversight :)
When I was pregnant with my first, I was so surprised that they didn't care what DH's blood type was, and then I realized it was because they can't be 100% sure he's the father! I was pretty shocked. Any mom with a negative blood type gets the shot. I needed it, though, because DD is A+. (DH cannot remember his blood type for the life of him, so I don't know what it is, but he's either A+ or AB+ because I am O-.)

As PPs have said, this varies a bit, but you definitely want Colace after delivery for at least a few days, even if you were not constipated before. You will be able to sleep in whatever position you want, but if you have a c-section, some will not be comfortable (on your back should be fine). You no longer have the baby and amniotic sac pushing on stuff, so that makes it more comfy, but you may still look preggo--it just depends on your body type. I think my heartburn was better pretty much right away after DD was born.

  • Is anyone else planning to use chiropractic care to help with 3rd trimester body changes/pains and for helping with positioning of the baby for L&D? I am setting up my first appointment now, and was just curious if others had done chiro care for prior pregnancies or are doing it now, and how it's going.
  • Possibly TMI, but my panties have been getting consistently damp over the past few days and it doesn't really seem like my normal discharge (it is more watery). It's a super tiny amount, but could it be a tiny water break? I feel like it's most likely just my discharge changing but wanted to double check haha, should probably call my nurse.
  • @ashtynmo  I would definitely call your nurse just to make sure. But swamp crotch is definitely a thing haha

  • @muskratbaby I've been seeing a chiro who specializes in prenatal care, since some time in 2nd trimester.  I have an old hip injury that has flared up, along with really painful round ligament pain.
It's helped a ton.  I go every other week.  She does really gentle adjustments with this clicker thing- I think the Bradley method.  And she examines my alignment and gives me exercises and stretches to do that really help (when I'm consistent with them, lol).

  • @ashtynmo My doctor has this symptom on her "call me right away" list. It's probably just pee, but if it is amniotic fluid that's super important to know.
  • @KLN1179 I used a Belly bandit with my first two and I felt like it helped my stomach get through the flabby stage faster. Although that could have been all in my head.

Is anyone else getting what feels like a stitch in their side? It's definitely not Braxton Hicks or labor cramps. I don't remember getting them with my previous pregnancies.

me. i get this periodically, generally only when moving more strenuously / exercising. sometimes just plain walking on my commute. it is definitely distinct, and it started surprisingly early on (by 20 weeks at least) and is not BH.

i didn't get this my first pregnancy either. usually i just have to slow down / take a break from what i'm doing and it goes away. it's more like a muscle cramp than anything else.

  • @oldersis I think I get that stitch sometimes too. Mine is always in the same spot, too. It used to be 2" to the right of my belly button but now it's more like 4". It makes me catch my breath. I think it's gas? Drives me crazy.
  • @anewadventure I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets it when I am just walking! It makes sense when I work out, but just taking ds into daycare today made it happen.
  • I am in the car on the way to silver spring MD to visit our inlaws, and it feels like pretty instantly I just got a new annoying symptom. My right inner thigh just outside of underwear line just started getting really painfully itchy. I had my SO pull over so I could drop trough and have her check it out. It looks like a rash or a blister. Ughhhh. Maybe it's just heat rash. I have a midwife appointment tomorrow, so I'll ask.

    Anyone else have this?

  • I've had irritation on and off. I think it is just because our skin is more sensitive during pregnancy. Can you go without underwear the rest of the day?
  • @failuretofly Bahaha. I remember this with my first. I think she sat so high I just couldn’t maneuver. I had forgotten about it until you said it. The hemorrhoids though. Immune we’re bad a few weeks ago. Thank god they have settled
