Re: October IVF

  • Ok. Got update. Looks like 7/8 are progressing. Eighth one is a little behind. Next update is Saturday (day 5).
  • Loading the player...
  • @Happyin14 welcome! It is also my first IVF. I am in CD 7.

Yesterday i had 14 total follicles but was told they are growing a bit slow so had to order a little bit more meds because I’m going to stim a bit longer then expected. Doc said this was Norma but it’s still frustrating. I have next BW/US tomorrow.
  • @maggier79 that's awesome!!!! Go embies!
    @bassetlover1 I always stim longer!
  • @bassetlover1 good luck tomorrow!
  • @bassetlover1 hope today goes well!

    @maggier79 7/8 is great! Woohoo!!!
  • maggier79 WOW! That is a great update, may they all continue progressing.

bassetlover1 hang in there, many women stim longer. Good luck for tomorrow, may you get them all x

    AFM..venting

I am having such BS response in this cycle, can’t believe it’s happening on round #7! Today’s scan showed lining 12, follicles on the left 17,12,10 and one on the right 15. It wasn't my usual tech person and I pray she just didn't get the measurements right, hardly any growth in two days?!
Sorry for the vent, IF is just making my usual positive personality going nuts and the tough cookie soft, too many tears in last few years...
And last night I was chatting with a friend, a mom of three who thought telling me about a couple who struggled with IF for years and then found they were naturally expecting would provide me with comfort. I know her intentions are good but I'm so sick with people telling me that stopping trying and going on vacay etc would solve our problems! Like seriously, we'd be here if that was the case? Of course I believe in miracles, this is why I am still giving this all I have. I just don't find any stories of complete strangers anyway encouraging for me. How do you ladies handle those good meaning but personally upsetting advices/comments?

  • @IfYouCanDreamIt I avoid those conversations by making sure NO ONE but my husband, mom, one of my sisters and my doctors know what I'm doing (oh and you ladies!). If this doesn't work, I don't want the whole world knowing and if it does work, they will find out as far into the pg as possible. I have had some nurses try to be encouraging in that way... I just go hmmmmmmmm. Then I stay silent... no comment. After a few pins drop they get the point. I basically an not open to talking about that with anyone but my doc.... if youre just taking my blood, how can you know it will eventually work for me?
As for your response... what day are you? And are they counting all follies or just measurable ones?
2 cycles ago (yup... I am heading into my 7th too) I started with one follie on each side... slow growing (as always) and I ended up with 17 or 18... One day after monitoring I went to a nearby park and choked back tears...I got two frozen from that cycle. Hopefully that doesn't sound like me telling you the equivalent of relax and it will work...just wanted to say ive totally been there and somehow my body turned things around
  • dragonette505 I totally understand why you are keeping it within very close circle and it's very smart I think. I am too but instead of my mom and two sisters I've shared with a very few of my closest friends and somehow only the most distant one makes me feel awkward with her comments and not surprisingly our chats have become quarter yearly or so...

I'm on CD9. They are only counting measurable ones, and the most I've ever had on a cycle was 6 so I'm not expecting any surprises but would really need those 4. I'll go back for BW/US on Sunday.

  • @IfYouCanDreamIt  so you've been stimming 6 or 7 days? That's still early days (at least for me... i never stim just 10 days).  I think you can catch up!!
  • I’ll be taking a stab at stimulated IVF after hearing no from many clinics.  I have DOR and so nobody wanted to try it.  Excited yet nervous.  Anxiously waiting for my period.
  • Any of you know how long it takes to get PGS results back if one has embryos available for testing?
  • Day 1 stims done last night. Just woke up with a ridiculous headache. Is this normal? Any advice? Just Advil?
  • @knottie0635bfe61a4fac27 welcome! I just ovulated (a week late, of course!) so I'm mostly going to be November ivf, but sticking around here too! If it hasn't been mentioned, it would be cool if you went back to the knot and changed your name so it's easier to tag you... anyway: do you know your DOR stats? FSH, AMH, AFC? And if you don't mind my asking where you're located (generally) and age? (I'm 44 so you can't possibly be older) :) I know some states automatically push women to egg or embryo donors/adoption but where I live there's clinics that will give you a go as old as late 40's with bad numbers. Most younger ladies with DOR are still better off than older ladies with better numbers.
@maggier79 it usually takes about 2 weeks (sometimes results can come sooner or a bit later).
@happyin14 yeah, it can happen.... i would first suggest a bunch of water and i think the general advice is Tylenol?? I usually don't take pain meds especially during stims.... I find water or electrolyte drinks like coconut water or smart water help...
  • @dragonette505 I am 39, going on to 40 in a month.  Amh .015, fsh 16, afc 3( from last year) and now battling with irregular periods as well.  Have you gone through any IVF cycles before, or will this be your first?
  • @knottie0635bfe61a4fac27 nope! Not my first.... this will be my SEVENTH cycle! Cray! Ok.... I'd love to know your protocol, if you know it yet. I've done antagonist, estrogen priming antagonist and estrogen priming microdose lupron. Antagonist is supposed to be the best for egg quality, but I've found that I've had the best afc count rise from microdose lupron. One cycle I started with just 2 antral follies and I ended up with 17 or 18 retrieved and 4 to freeze. With antagonist, the number of mature eggs is usually about the same as my afc at baseline.
My upcoming cycle will be the same as last time:
    150 follistim
    150 menopur
    1ml omnitrope
ganerelix (later in the cycle to stop ovulation)
dual trigger or HCG and lupron
have you made any diet changes or added supplements?
  • Day 5 status: 4/8 made it to freezing today. Did biopsy for PGS. Waiting to see if 1 more makes it tomorrow. All this is nerve wrecking.  :o
  • @maggier79 that's so awesome!!! All you need is a couple! Also hoping your straggler makes it!!
  • @dragonette505 I will be doing the estrogen priming antagonist.  Not sure about the dosages of the meds.  I started taking CoQ10 and DHEA 1.5 months back.  Are you trying to bank your eggs/embryos? What was your FSH and AMH, if you don’t mind me asking?

@knottie0635bfe61a4fac27 I currently have 5 embies banked and was hoping to do a fresh transfer this upcoming cycle, but my doc noticed a 7mm polyp and wants to remove it before my next transfer.  I'm on coq10, dhea and a bajillion other supplements! Lol
at last check, my AMH was 2.3 (but that was about a year ago) fsh was like 7.
  • @dragonette505 Nice!! I just went for my baseline bw and ultrasound.  Should you not consume any caffeine when doing your cycles?
  • @dragonette505 Nice!! I just went for my baseline bw and ultrasound.  Should you not consume any caffeine when doing your cycles?
I would say try to throw everything at this cycle... reduce sugar, no caffeine, no alcohol if you can stand it... what we are trying to do is make the environment that the eggs mature in as good as possible. I mean, it depends on you, of course, but that’s definitely the gold standard.
  • @dragonette505 Nice!! I just went for my baseline bw and ultrasound.  Should you not consume any caffeine when doing your cycles?
I know this wasn’t to me but my RE says we don’t have to cut all things out. But I’m definitely reducing.... I am allowing myself small amounts of caffeine and alcohol though. And trying to eat as healthy because the drugs are making me feel sluggy. So fruits and veggies and lean proteins will counteract that instead of increase it.
  • @maggier79 I’m still lurking here - I think the turnaround time for PGS results depends on to where they send them.  For one of my cycles with my old RE, I got the final day 6 report on Friday afternoon and we got the result by the following Monday, for this last one with my new RE, day 6 report (I always have to wait till day 6) was Wednesday and we got the results the following Monday morning.  I’m pretty sure they both told me about a week to manage my expectations.  Fingers crossed for normals!

  • @happyin14 yeah.... like I said, It really depends on each person, but that’s the best standard. Whether you choose to follow it is really a personal decision. Maybe your stats are much better? In my case, it’s suggested I do all of the things, and I have relatively good numbers... but my age counts against me. If your numbers are good and you’re in your early to mid 30’s, you have more possibilities. The girl who asked me has some challenges and has found someone to do this cycle for her.... if it was me, I’d do everything I could. Hope that makes sense
  • I’m lurking here too. I was told 2-4 weeks for PGS results but got mine in exactly a week.
  • maggier79 That’s excellent! Did they tell you when to expect results of PGS? Keeping my fingers and toes crossed also for the one catching up.

dragonette505 I started swimming from day 2, and usually around day 9 they've been growing faster but luckily it seems that they just took longer this time and I pray there’s four eggs in there (I’ve had some empty follicles in the past). Oh and I agree with you with the gold standard, though I personally had worst cycle when I was off caffeine for 4 months so I'm enjoying a cup of half-caff coffee daily and occasionally regular. I'm with you in trying anything that can do difference, I've also eliminated plastics and chemicals as much as possible.

    AFM I am triggering tonight!

The follies had grown from Friday and looked bit better today (two on the right now: 8, 17 and 3 on the left: 15,16,20). I’m still taking 300 menopur and cetrotide today, then 2x decapetyl 0.1 two hours before Ovidrel. I'm so happy tomorrow will be shot-free and it happens to be a day off for me so I can also sleep in  o:)

  • Update: Got final update on embryos. Last one did not make it. We have 4 total freezing. Our clinic uses a 3-tier grading system poor, fair, and good. We have 2 good and 2 fair.
  • @maggier79 yay!!! That’s great! Congrats!!!
@IfYouCanDreamIt yay for triggering! Hoping you have a great retrieval!!!
I think everyone has to make their own decisions about how to apply advice ( plenty of ppl have a glass of wine a night no problem) but again, that’s not the best practices. I’ve done 7 cycles with every type of behavior: do whatever i want, be super strict and etc.... what i try to do is relax a bit between cycles, have a couple glasses of wine and sugary treats, but heading into my next cycle i tighten that stuff up. I’m spending way too much money and the choices are possibly having a baby.... well it’s not a big loss for me to try me best for my eggs :) Everyone can do what they like and I totally support and applaud them, but I try to only give the best advice :)

  • Thanks ladies!! I’ve heard both, some say bit of caffeine is ok and others say none whatsoever.  I’ve gotten rid of plastics, drink a lot of water, and eat lots of fruits and vegetables

  • @dragonette505 Thanks!

Ladies: does anyone know what percentage of Day 5 embryos end up normal after PGS?
  • @maggier79 Yay! That's great! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

@Knottieb1e39a78370bdee2 Welcome! this is also my first IVF cycle. I am in CD 10 now and stimming longer. I have also had some headaches so I think that is pretty normal.

So I had my CD10 BW/US. Estrogen is 792 lining is 10.4 an my biggest follicle is 14.4. They only measured 6 of them but said they saw 12 on the right and about 3 on the left. I had a number in the 14 size. But I think that's good since on Friday they were about 10. I go back on Tuesday. I'm hoping I trigger on Tuesday otherwise I will have to buy more meds because they are finished on Thursday.
  • @bassetlover1 You seem to be doing great and on track! Your lining is awesome!!

@Chloe34556 Guess what.... We know that Biotexcom is a scam and we don't permit promotion of scam sites on our threads...
  • @maggier79 I think it’s hard to apply general percentages.  But there are some by age - I imagine your google searching led you here?

    https://www.advancedfertility.com/blog/ivf-genetic-testing-improves-embryo-implantation/

I don’t think that table is of a subset that made it to blast though (it’s not clear/maybe I didn’t read that carefully).  I’ve had 20%, 0%, and 40% normal (and a cycle with no blasts at all).  My first three cycles together yielded one normal from 8 blasts tested (below average even for my age - 39 at the time/now 40), and my last cycle with a new RE I got 4 normals from ten blasts tested (and felt refreshingly average for once!).  Everyone and every cycle is different, but age tends to make a difference (along with protocol, apparently).

  • Hi Everyone. I am finishing up my first IVF cycle (I just had my transfer on Sunday) and I have found reading this thread really helpful. So first I want to say thank you!

You all seem to know a lot of specifics about your progress. Is this primarily because your doctor gives you a lot of information, or is this because you are asking questions? My doctors give me very little info and I have never known what to ask. They did regularly tell me the number of follicles, and I would get emails with my Progesterone and Estradiol levels, however no one ever gave me any context with it and I have had no idea what the numbers mean.

I am reading descriptions of follicle size, endo thickness, and embryo quality, all things I have had no idea about and will ask about next time. Are there other things I should be asking about as well that haven't been mentioned on this thread?
  • @morganelizabeth123 welcome!

How many day 5 embryos did you end up with? Did you do PGS testing? Given that you finished your transfer already, I cannot think of too many questions to ask at this point.

However, it may helpful to know total number of eggs retrieved, total number of eggs fertilized, number of embryos that made it to day 3, etc. That may shed light on possible issues at critical points.

Best of luck with your transfer!!
