This was mentioned in the hospital bag thread, but I thought it would be fun to share what outfits we'll be bringing our babies home in and what we'll be wearing home ourselves (for me, comfort is key!).
Our babies will be wearing these onesies my SIL got us and these hats I ordered off Etsy. I'll be wearing some leggings and comfy slipper booties I just ordered from Old Navy, not sure about what I'll be wearing as my top yet though.
I'm hoping this is our coming home outfit for little guy:
I will probably be wearing what I wear every day these days: yoga pants, a (hopefully clean) maternity shirt, and my running/walking shoes. Bonus points for washing/combing/braiding my hair.
@kyrwyn I love the hat!!! I'm a big fan of the monster trend in baby clothes lately. My cousin gave me a bunch of hand me downs and I got some adorable monster onesies and hoodies!
@leilagphillips I know, right?! It gets me every time. I actually got the outfit before I knew if we were having a boy or a girl, because wickedly-adorable monsters are sex-and-gender-neutral in my book.
@kyrwyn All of the hand me downs we have been given so far are technically boy clothes, but I definitely plan to dress our girl in the monster and dinosaur outfits and various "boy" colors. I might get her some cute headbands just to help avoid confusion for some outfits though.
@hellothere47 i brought 1 of each when I had DD. I was so sure I'd need the 0-3 month outfit, but DD was a peanut and barely fit in NB clothes, so I was glad I had both
@hellothere47 I think the outfit we have is NB and with twins, they will most likely not be that big, but maybe I'll bring alternates in 0-3 just in case...
DS1 was 8lbs 6oz at birth and newborn was the only way to go for him (some of it was even way baggy on him). We were in size NB for 3-4 weeks and he was a bigger baby. 0-3 were way too big at birth. Likewise, DS2 was almost a pound smaller and was in NB for a bit. So I'm only bringing a NB outfit with me this time.
AFM, here is what I'm packing for myself to wear home. I bought a size up and will just wear a nursing tank underneath.
Well, I feel unprepared?! DD was 8lbs and she wore a newborn size outfit/clothes for about 3 weeks. DS was 11.2 lbs so the newborn outfit I had all picked out and washed wouldn't even pretend to fit around him, my mom had to do some shopping on our behalf so we had clothes for him to come home in. This time around I have a little "baby's first Christmas" jammy in newborn size that I'm planning on using (EDD 12/27) - but the tags are still on it in case this one is trending large too, or in case my mom (who bought it) jinxed me and this baby doesn't come until January!
AFM: i wore yoga pants, nursing bra and a zip up hoodie home with both babies. Comfort FTW.
Baby will come home in this. I wore yoga pants and a nursing tank with DD1. I’m sure that’s what I’ll wear with this one as well (and something warm over the nursing tank) eta: DD1 was 7.7 and in newborn for Almost a month so I went with nb for this one too
Living in SoCal means not knowing if December will be chilly or hot, so I'll be packing the same outfit DD1 came home in (she was born in May), as well as something warm (to be decided). Both will be NB size. For me, I'll be packing my maternity leggings, a loose sweater and a nursing bra.
We are team green! Here is the outfit I bought if it is a girl. Our first was a boy and also born in December, so if we have another boy I will use one of those newborn outfits (I still need to dig them out and wash them).
@leilagphillips, for twins you might even go with a backup preemie set. DD wasn't a preemie and was only 5 lbs 11 oz. My sister had to go buy us some outfits because the NB stuff I bought was way way too big. She wasn't into NB clothes until she was about 6 weeks.
Momma to Amelia Marie (7/14) and Austin Samuel (11/17). Adding baby (girl) #3 on 7/21
I apologize if this photo is enormous or otherwise poorly formatted. This is my first time posting a pic from mobile.
We are team green so wanted to go kind of neutral. EDD is 12/25 so the one we decide on will probably depend on timing. The print on the right is little sleeping foxes. I got these from a super cute Etsy shop I found called Maine Girl Creations.
I have no idea what I will wear home. I didn't even realize this was something I needed to think about. I really need to work on my to-do lists; I feel like this would be on the radar. I appreciate all of your ideas!

@kln62689 Those are both so cute! Really the only reason I'm thinking of what to wear for myself ahead of time is because I want to pack that outfit in my hospital bag in advance.
I'm bringing preemies for the twins. Central Texas in mid-Nov means maybe 50's-60's outside. Both DS and DD were in the 6lb range as singletons and wore preemie for a few weeks, so I highly doubt the twins will be bigger.
As for me, I've got some comfy black jammie pants and nursing tanks already, so I'm set!
I wanted something super cutesy to bring her home in, but then realized that it doesn’t make much sense just to drive 8 miles home and have to change her again. She is our rainbow baby so this is practical and fitting

@britmanering73 omg I'm dying! Definitely feeling the flashbacks!!
This is my first choice for right now. I honestly haven't earnestly shopped for a "going home" outfit but I'm still keeping an eye out, possibly something with a winter/Christmas feel.
For me: Even though it was spring this is one of the first things I bought for me It will be this with maternity leggings or another long sweater with leggings.

I am loving these outfits! @britmanering73 those are hilarious! And look so uncomfortable for a newborn!
Last time, (DD was born in August) I wore a comfy maxi dress home. This time, I think I will probably wear yoga pants, a nursing tank, and a cozy sweater (depending upon what the temp is...we just got a cool front and the high today is still supposed to be in the low 80s--ugh)
Married May 2014 DD born August 2016 Baby #2 due December 2017
I'm 100% in favor of comfort. Especially after a c-section. My first two girls were fall/winter babies, so i opted for cute fleece sweater/onesie/pants sets from Carter's. I went even more simple with my third and got her adorable footie pajamas in Terry cloth since she was a spring baby and it was too warm for fleece. I have a box for each kid that contains keepsakes and included are the outfits they each wore home, so i still have all of them. This time around I'm going for fleece again, and I really loved how simple footie PJs are, so i got this to bring baby home in. I'm a bit obsessed with dinosaurs right now. Lol.
BTW it's a size newborn, my first 3 kids were each 8 pounds and some change at birth. They all wore newborn clothing for the first month, if I had put them in 0-3 size it would have been too baggy.
As far as what I will wear, probably either comfy sweats and set or a PJ set. For the first week post partum I basically live in a PJ set with a button down top. I don't care how dorky they look, they are super comfy and a button down top is easy boob access.
As an end-of-December mom, I can't decide if I want to take the gamble on a Christmas themed outfit (for either of us!) or just do something generic. I feel like any time on or before the 25th I could do Christmas, but if she's born on like the 28th or something... meh
@elcd458 I’m having the same debate. We are due 12/26 and I think I’m going to get one Christmas outfit and another not-Christmas outfit and decide depending on when she makes her appearance.
@elcd458 and @kaylawing Depending upon how much you love Christmas, technically the Christmas season lasts til Epiphany on Jan 6 (12 days of Christmas and all that), so as long as baby arrives before Jan 6, you're not out of Christmastime!
Married May 2014 DD born August 2016 Baby #2 due December 2017
We'll be bringing our little bear home in this outfit. (Sorry kid, mama loves the color gray!) As for me, I'll probably wear a nursing tank + sweatshirt dress + leggings.
@leilagphillips and @KathrynJ088 My hospital bag was WAY over packed with the twins since I had NO idea how big they would be when I packed it... I had premie, NB and 0-3 mo options. Being term they fit well into NB. (I actually donated the premie stuff I bought to the NICU for parents who weren't expecting premies since we planned on it but were blessed with not needing it). Also some thoughts if you end up with a C-section. yoga pants that don't put pressure above your hair line are ideal and having a belly binder/support was super helpful for me. Shoes you can slip on and off.
