At this point I think our little girl is going to be "Little Girl" until she is 5 because I can't pin my DH down. I show him a list and he says "eh". I show him a different list, he says "huh". I tell him fine, you pick something, he doesn't even think of any. He picked one name but I don't like it and he hasn't bothered to look for or at anything else. I'm going to strangle him.
@MaximumEffort I like that. Jacob would have been on our list If we didn't have a nephew Jacob already.
Similar to what happened with DD, husband is fully committed to the name Grant Patrick. I am 90% of the way there. With DD, I wanted to wait to meet her before naming her officially but as soon as she was born and the doc asked for a name, DH yelled out "Abigail" and that was it. I hadn't even held her yet!
@ariasbabyblog Ugh, I feel you; my husband was doing that for awhile and driving me absolutely bonkers. It is so not helpful to just shut down every name without offering anything in return! I finally got my guy to go to the library with me to pick out some baby name books and then we had dedicated time where we both sat down with the books and came up with name lists. For us, that helped a lot and my husband has been much more involved with looking for names since then. (We still haven't decided, but at least we're getting somewhere!)
@ariasbabyblog exactly!!!! DH has been the exact same way. Except the names he comes up with make me wanna gag and then he gets offended. We literally both agreed on one but not the spelling. Then he changed the whole list around! Like WTF! I totally feel you on this cuz I could strangle him
@cwalker042 Yes, we are keeping our options secret. Don't want to hear anyone's negative comments about whatever random associations they might have with the names we like.
@cwalker042 If/when we get around to picking one, it will be a secret. I don't wanna hear about so and so who named their kid the same thing or so and so who is a jerk with that name or how much you don't like it. Not your baby, not your choice.
I think our options are Luke or Evan, neither of which make me jump for joy but I can live with either. My main concern with Luke is that Lucas and every variation of it is super common right now. However, it's DH's only preferred name besides Anthony, which I don't like as much (I don't hate it, just don't love it). So it might be our compromise name. I picked Veronica for our daughter so I feel like I don't get as much of a say.
@cwalker042 mine is a secret...I'm just venting on this post about DH and our journey of picking a name haha! But I haven't even posted our potentials.
@cwalker042 we are keeping ours a secret too. We are team green so we have a few names for each gender but not sharing any of those. It is driving people crazy which I think is funny.
We can't agree on a boys name! I just started calling this baby little no name. We are a blended family and our children are Eli, Branson, Emersyn (girl), Carter, Irelynn, and Anderson.
MN will be O'dell which is SOs middle name and last name is very Irish.
Kade and Hudson are ones we have thrown around lately. I love Keegan, Lawson, and Pierson but SO hates them.
He has tried for Odin and Carrick which I vetoed pretty quick. Have a feeling little man won't have a name till we leave the hospital.
@cwalker042 we are keeping our name a secret too. My SIL knows because she was throwing out random names when we were on vacation together and that’s how we picked. It actually ended up being a combination of both of our sisters’ middle names so it resonated with us and has meaning now. However, it is uncommon so we don’t want to hear anything negative about it.
Edit it to add that we were told by DH’s aunt to make sure it’s easy enough for Grandma to be able to remember it. She’s 80 and forgets the name of her own children sometimes. Sorry if I sound insensitive, but that won’t be a factor when I name my child.
I'm keeping it a secret for the same reasons. I don't want people's opinions. I hate how people give their opinion when it wasn't asked for. I also hate when people keep throwing out name ideas when I didn't ask for ideas. We have specific criteria for our kids names and no one understands that. So please, STOP!!! It's beyond annoying!
Team green We haven't looked at names since initial list. We mostly had 2 girl names on our list that when we first looked at making one those names we on both our suggestions. Aisling and Saoirse (Ashling) (sear sha) We've agreed on a few more And a pretty set on Hazel for a middle name .both a family name and a sacred tree not to mention a name we actually like we only wouldn't use it for a first name as it was hubbies grandmother
Hubby has a couple names he suggested for boys I like . But I had none to bring to the table . Fionn and Orsin (Fin) With Rowan as a middle name keeping the sacred tree idea . There are a few others but I think we need a revised list to take with us so when we meet the LO we can pick
We haven't discussed names at all with other people . No opinions no suggestions . We are pretty lucky that our families aren't pushy or overbearing and we can just do it our way . Even siblings only offer "advice" in the way of THEIR experience and only when we bring it up . Like I asked my sister about cars sets and she gave her opinion and left it there .
As far as names it's not only us that refuse to discuss it . I have Ben adviceskednsked by friends and outside persons do we have name ideas yet and I usually answer yes we have a short list but won't know till we meet them what their name is
The DH gave me a list! He called it a list of names he doesn't hate. I'll bloody well take it! And 3 of the names were on my list that he hasn't seen, so we may have actually narrowed it down. I asked him if liked any of them, or just didn't hate them and he said he likes some and needs to think more on the others (of his own list). Weird, but at this point I'm glad he gave me anything.
