Re: Weekend Randoms - 9/23

  • Just having a usual Saturdate with DS.  He got his hair cut, I got my bangs and eyebrows done, we had Auntie Anne's, and now he's playing in the playplace while I sit and relax, lol.

I was trying to find shoes to go with a dress for a wedding we'll be going to in less than 3 wks down in GA, but no luck at this mall.  Meh.  It's casual so all I need are like plain black flip flops or something (but not like old navy kind haha).

I guess I'll do bills when I get home so I can see how much money we have, because I still have to buy DS shoes and H pants and shoes.  These are the times I need some rum and coke, lol.

  • Huge arts and craft festival in town so I’m hiding at home with the kids. Feeling better so I’m prepping some meals for the week and doing some deep cleaning. (My daughters art cupboard had taken on a life of its own! And I culled about 10 pairs of kids shoes that don’t fit anymore from the hall closet). We’re eating lunch now (venison and carrots with grapes for dessert) and then taking a nap!  Dh is home tomorrow so we might work on tidying the garage and yard.
  • I just got done buying a ton of winter clothes for DD (girlfriend isn't even three yrs old yet, and wears size 6).  Once she is done with her nap we probably will take advantage of the beautiful weather and hit the park.

Tomorrow we get to see a falcon show, and probably will hit the local pumpkin patch!  All in all, a delightful fall weekend.

    @hedgepig enjoy the wedding!!!
@psuxray07 have fun on your date! My Saturdate involves takeout and college football lol. DS's team has the 8pm time. Aaaaaand now I really want Auntie Anne's!
@ngolimento what in the world is a falcon show? Like the birds of prey?

AFM, we were supposed to start the house hunting process today and look at a few houses. But our realtor called us and said he had to postpone until tomorrow. So we went to our first cider mill instead which was fun. It was actually unbearably hot which is weird for Michigan at the end of September. And they only had unpasteurized cider so I didn't get any :( but it was great to have some donuts and DS got to see some farm animals :)
oh, and ETA: we bought some apple cinnamon pancake mix at the cider mill that I can't wait to make for breakfast tomorrow!!!
  • Just got a pack in play off a local mom to mom Facebook page for $70! Excited to save money where we can. I also have to go to a work event tonight which I'm not that excited about. If I don't feel sick the entire time it may not be that bad but I'm really not in the mood to feel like crap and be stuck at a work event on a Saturday night. Ugh.

@psuxray07 Mmm Auntie Ann's sounds so good. I also hate having to find shoes for an event because that's always when you can never find anything!

@cards10  I keep seeing so many of my MI friends and family post about how hot it is there right now!

@cards10. In the fall our zoo does an outdoor show where they have several birds of prey fly around, and catch a few things.  It's really fascinatingly and based on ancient Middle Eastern falconry, which was used to save several species (most notably the Perigrine Falcon).

  • I'd love to go out with DH today for dinner, but we're ordering in. I'm working on grad work right now and then we will be watching the Penn State game. He's going to the Eagles home opener tomorrow, so I'm going to hang out at my parents and hope that DD doesn't spill the beans about her sibling on the way.

  • Lazy weekend here. Might fold laundry. Key work might. We are not having fall weather. High 80's here, I'd be okay with staying home until it's about 70 degrees!!! I'm currently blaming the weather on my laziness.
  • At a memorial service weekend for DH's grandfather in New York near Niagra Falls. My phone keeps roaming and thinking it's in Canada. Thank goodness for hotel wifi
  • We went to red lobster and I ate too much and feel gross. I just had to get that molten cookie!
  • Had to leave the restaurant we were at because I wasn't feeling well. DH's mother and grandmother told him to make sure I ate. It was sweet of them.
  • We had a yard sale! Made a little money and a little room in the already cramped house! Enjoying the warmth before winter sets in! Waiting for the leaves to get colorful!
  • I'm out of town visiting family and going to a brunch at a friend's for their toddler's birthday this morning.

  • @mcg920, forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but isn't "shiksa" supposed to be an insult?  I've never heard it used kindly.

  • DH left this morning for a mini golf trip. I'm having lunch with my inlaws today, and... I am going to break down and look for some maternity tops and bigger bras. H gave me a little crap for wearing a tshirt to church last night. He also said I definitely am showing (I did flip him off at that). In reality, I am showing if you know I'm pregnant.

  • Yesterday I had a 5k race that ended at the zoo for the Monarch Festival, so we did that. We got some plants to add to our garden. DH and I had our monthly date night last night, and it was really nice spending quiet time with him. Today is going to be a low key day. Laundry, football, pick up a bit, and hopefully get our wild dog to the park because I was too lazy to take her running with me this morning .

I got engaged!  We've been planning our elopement since last winter; had ring picked out and everything. I asked SO to propose to me anyway and it happened this afternoon! Not a huge surprise, but very exciting.
    @keeksie84 congratulations! How exciting!

We did basically the same thing: we ring shopped together, I even wore it for a while, we booked the venue, etc. Even with all that DH still managed to surprise me with a proposal. Didn't make it any less special!
  • @kmalls, thanks! I had to share it here because we're surprising our friends and family with double news next month (elopement and pregnancy) but I HAD to tell someone.
  • @ngolimento Yes, you are correct and it's not an ignorant question at all! Shiksa originated as a Yiddish insult for non Jewish women--particularly those that tried to date nice Jewish boys :) But as interfaith marriage has become more accepted, the term has lost a lot of its sting. In our family we use it more as a joke. My MIL was not the Jewish mother that pressured her sons to find nice Jewish girls to marry, so it's never felt like an insult. Now, If DHs orthodox Jewish grandmother was still alive, she might not say it so affectionately. :)
  • I'm trapped at a reception with in laws and people I don't know for 2 hours. Really wishing we brought our own car now.
  • @kmalls  that color combo sounds nice!  And yellow isn't a door color you see often (or ever) around here!

We did ours a "seafoam" blue/green and everyone we talk to knows our house by the door.  "oh you're the house with the seafoam door" etc.  It was red like everyone else before!

  • @kmalls I love the trend of doors that pop. Our house is all neutral tones and our front door is a dark brown faux wood look so we'd have to buy a new door to get the color pop without the wood grain sticking through. I've been thinking about getting a nice color storm door/screen door though. Maybe someday we'll pull the trigger. lol

  • Wow, @kmalls! Love it with the storm door. Most of the ones I see look so... functional and that one is really pretty.

  • @lindsye I love the door because the top half slides down and a screen rolls out from the top. If it wasn't so dang hot right now I'd have the screen down all the time.
  • Boo the OB just called and looks like my bloodwork from last week all came back good, but I have the beginnings of a UTI.
  • @sparklingdiamond Oh no! That sucks about the UTI but at least they caught it early.

  • @JJMNO1616  Thanks!  What annoys me is that I know they had my results back on Thurs, but I didn't get a call about it until today...
  • @kmalls we have that door as well, and it got all warped because the front of our house gets BLASTED with sun throughout the day. Just a heads up if it happens to you!

DD on a recent trip to London. 3 yrs old.

  • Not sure this belongs here but it doesn't but it doesn't really belong anywhere else yet so....

I already submitted deposit at DD school for the infant room.  I thought I was being all proactive just asking about availability and it turns out the don't have openings until Next July-September at the earliest.  Which would mean i'd have to find alternative care for a month or two if I return to work at 3 months (the earliest the baby could go anyways).

  • @kmalls Love the colors! We will be needing a new front door soon and you've inspired me to look for one that pops!
@ekendall09 What a pain. I should probably get on top of the day care situation, but the thought immediately overwhelms me.

  • @sapphires-and-diamonds agreed! I thought I was way ahead of it!  The entire infant room is all internal families right now and they'll put our needs first which is good.

  • @sapphires-and-diamonds @ekendall09 the daycare situation overwhelms me too! I know it's good to get in early but I'm afraid to call and sound nutty
  • @ekendall09 You just inspired me to call about daycare availability. She said she had no way of knowing whether they'd have availability next summer but also there's a waitlist I need to join asap if I want a shot of getting in then. So thanks for reminding me to get my butt in gear!

  • I just had my 2nd U/S and things are looking good... so I'm thinking it may be time.to be thinking about daycare or childcare for when I return tonwork. It sucks because I work from home most of the time, I don't want to drop my baby off somewhere then just come sit at home... We talked about how nice it would be to have a nanny for the first year (well, 9 months because I'll be at home for 3), but I really have no grasp on how much that costs vs. Daycare...
