Re: Questions for STM+ 9/13

  • Boy moms, do they pee a lot during diaper changes? DD has only had 2 incidents which were entirely our fault. Just wondering if we need to get those waterproof liners that we're mentioned in the baby registry thread!
  • Loading the player...
  • @schaze I feel like it only happened a small handful of times. Like @cricket99 said, be prepared but really it wasn't that big of an issue for us.
  • @schaze DS only did it a few times, and like @Cricket99 said it was almost always on DH. We didn't have the waterproof liners and it wasn't a huge deal for us.

  • I guess I'm curious of what will "go back to normal" post baby.

Will I be able to brush my teeth without gagging? Will my sense of smell chill out and let me deal with normal things (also without gagging)? Aaaaand will these hubcap sized areolas shrink at all?
  • @BrandedCowgirl92 I had HG my first pregnancy and was sick the entire time. As soon as the baby was out I felt so much better. As for the smells, occasionally, not often after having DS I'd smell something that reminded me of being so sick and I'd feel nauseous for a minute, but it never lasted long.

  • @schaze agree with the other ladies comments! Just want to add something I learned the hard way--point their privates downward with diaper changes. I couldn't figure out why I kept getting peed on and every diaper was leaking. Then I remembered..ohhhh that's what the nurses were talking about when we were doing his first diaper changes in the hospital haha :|
  • @BrandedCowgirl92 my mom said some of her food aversions from her first pregnancy (me) are only just now going away. I'm 34! I want to be able to eat bacon again! With you on the smells too, I can't clean my toilets without hurling, even though most of my nausea has gone. My husband and brother (who lives with us) do not do a good job, and the toilets are starting to get stained.  :s
  • @BrandedCowgirl92 Most everything for me went back to normal....or I guess a new normal. Stomach and stretch marks were the only things that really weren't the same as before....but it definitely took some time to feel like myself again both mentally and physically.

  • @BrandedCowgirl92 Similar to above, everything went back to a "new" normal after the birth. Your body will never be the same again, unfortunately. But food aversions, nausea, headaches, etc -- all that stuff dissipated.

  • @schaze as mentioned above, pee pee teepees are a total waste of money. If you get some, return them. haha. I was not a quick style changer at first so I got peed on a lot until I started putting a little washcloth over his penis and then that would absorb it. We picked up a bunch of these munchkin liners for the changing pads and it was much easier to change that than the entire changing pad cover too.

  • @BrandedCowgirl92 same for me as well. Pretty much back to normal, my hips will never be the same size and it took many months for my boobs to go back down and the areolas to go back to normal color. Within 5 months the line on my stomach was gone too. I had such a hard pregnancy that I told many ppl after birth how amazing I felt.
  • ^^ those are what I was wondering about! I keep thinking of stupid questions about having a boy  :D
  • I know we talked a bit about this before, but my 15 month old has now had two viral rashes in the last three weeks.  Are there any that I need to be concerned about as a pregnant lady??  I am pretty sure the first rash was from roseola and this one, no idea really.  Just popped up, no fever.
  • @auntieraindrop I hear you girl! I want to be able to eat steak again and cheeseburgers and anything else you can eat that is red meat! Ahhhh!
  • @BrandedCowgirl92 As other said, most went back to normal, but there were other bodily things that never went back to normal for me (hips for days), but in time, I learned to love them. I would even say I loved my post baby body more than ever, but that took time.  I only had one food aversion stay, but I think that was more comparable to having an aversion after getting sick than a continued pregnancy aversion.

@schaze  I have SO many boy mom questions all the time! With DD, I felt like I knew at least to some extent what I was doing, ya know, being a girl and all. But with this LO being a boy, I feel like I am getting thrust into a whole new world.
  • @schaze and @lmmjd I'm the opposite. I have the boy stuff down now, its the girl stuff that I don't know anything about. haha I mean... I'm a girl and all but I've been a boy mom for the past 2 years its all I know for babies.

  • @supercoolstephy I'm same as you. No idea what I'm going to do with a girl!  For those of your with a girl, did she get a "period" shortly after birth? I have a friend who said her's did, but she's kind of and AW and I was just curious if that is actually a thing?? If it is, how common is it?

  • @maueraa07 for real?! OMG I have never heard of that and now I am really curious!
  • @maueraa07 I remember one of the moms in my mom group from my previous pregnancy mentioned that happening. I dont remember details though.

  • Does anyone have any great books on toddlers and how and when to introduce a more structured rule system and discipline?

We tell DD no and redirect her a lot but she's started to bawl everytime we tell her no. I feel a little out of my depth and don't want to do the wrong thing and create a monster by accident.

@maueraa07 My DD did not get a period, but I know some mamas who had babies that did. It has to do with the change in hormones after birth.

  • @supercoolstephy You teach me your ways, and I'll teach you mine! My SO has three boys (no girls), so I think he thinks I am stupid for not knowing what to do with a boy. haha
  • @missblaze wow that is crazy! I have never heard of that...I will add that to my list of "good to knows."
  • @missblaze thank you! That's so interesting, poor girls.

@BrandedCowgirl92 The short answer to your questions is YES! It took a little while but I feel like most of my weird pregnancy things went back to the way the were. The one thing (or should I say two things) that did not were my boobs... They looked like deflated balloons once breastfeeding was done. It was sad. They're big again now, but I'm anticipating even more sag this time around. Oh well, they were nice for a while at least...

@maueraa07 my daughter did not get a period but I have heard of some girls getting it. I don't think it was like an adult period, more like a little spotting I"d never heard of it until joining a mom group like this!
  • My DD did get a "period," but in my experience, it wasn't like a full blown period. Basically, there was pink tinged ... I guess discharge? ... for a few days. Not enough blood to even get in her diaper, just when I wiped.  The doctors at the hospital warned me that it could happen, basically because right after they are born the baby's ovaries will think they are an x-aged woman until the hormones regulate. It sounded more terrifying than it was in my opinion.

No blood for my girls but lots of discharge the first week or so. ( my girls are 4 and 5 so I can't remember that well)

  • DD also had the "pink discharge" for the first few days after birth. I had been warned, so it didn't freak me out.

I'm also curious about good books on parenting toddlers. DD will be two in January and we're hitting some interesting behaviors at this age. I've been doing my own research as issues arise, but I'm wondering if anyone swears by any particular literature on the topic. I kind of want to read as much as I can and pick and choose the strategies that will work best for our family.
  • @supercoolstephy Love it! Can't share it on facebook though, unless I want a lecture from my mother about my use of "a-hole."
  • So not to freak anyone out, but on the subject of things you wouldn't expect, ex: pink discharge from girl babies.

    Two things.

    1. I wanted to mention this about all babies. They can be born with teeth. One of my friends babies was born with a tooth. It's called a Natal tooth and is pretty rare. She had to wait for it to erupt fully and then determine if it's "neonatal" or "natal" one of them is their first set of baby teeth, and the other is an actual third set that can be pulled

    2. If you have a c-section there could be fluid in the babies in their mouth that you will need to suction out for a few days after they are born. This happened to us, and we didn't know what was going on, none of the nurses warned us, but DS turned purple and was acting like he was choking, and I was freaked the eff out. From what they told us after the fact, since they don't come through the canal the liquid isn't pushed out like it normally would. I'm sure that there is someone smarter than I am that can comment on it more, but I wanted to mention it so that you might think about it if that happens. No one had ever mentioned it and good God it scared us.

  • Haha, thanks, @supercoolstephy. That's kind of my goal too!
  • As with @supercoolstephy 's second note, it can also happen vaginally if you push quickly.  DD was out in two pushes, and because there wasn't enough time for the fluid to be squeezed out, she also did the same chocking thing.
  • @schaze nope. Not everywhere. From what I've been told boys vs girls is easier for poop diapers because there isnt really anywhere for it to really go inside.

  • @schaze cleaning boys is easy! I'm terrified of the poopsplosions with a girl! I'm sure having mess in sensitive parts is not fun to deal with.

So I've googled this, but I trust you ladies more... Is it possible for her to have bruised my ribs? Maybe she's just up under them or my uterus could just be putting pressure on them, but my lower ribs under my right boob are so sore. It hurts to laugh, cough, and sometimes just to sit up from laying down.

@whitta1218 I don't know the answer to your question. However, I do know that everything is getting shifted around in there to make room for the growing uterus and baby, so it's not surprising that you would be feeling discomfort. I didn't start having pain that high until 3rd trimester last time, but everyone is different!

ETA: If it's persistent pain, you may want to rule out gallbladder issues. Problems are much more common during pregnancy.
