After weeks and weeks of waiting we found out this evening that we are having a boy! I am still in shock as I was sure we were having a girl. I'm super excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a boy!! I am very excited for two little boys running around the house, DH is less so. He really wanted a girl. In fact I didn't realize how much until we talked after the ultrasound. He isn't even sure on the names we had picked for boys, so we are back to the drawing board there too. I hope he doesn't dwell too much...I feel bad even though it was his swimmers.. Lol.
So I initially had a home blood test sent to a lab and those results told us we were having a boy! We painted his room blue, bought boy clothes and narrowed names down to two choices! Went to out 20 week ultrasound today and the tech asked if we wanted to know the gender, so which I happily said we already knew from a fancy shmancy blood test. She says "oh so you know you're having a girl!" Say WHAT?! We checked and double checked and got multiple views and YES we've got a GIRL in there. Despite the shock and the blue room, hubby and I are SO EXCITED as we secretly both wanted another girl (we've got an 18 month old girl already). So..... don't always trust those DNA kits!!!!
@aisy-daisy one of my friends had the same thing happen! She was told at her anatomy scan that it was a girl and then at a later growth scan, SURPRISE! Boy! She was shocked, but thrilled either way.
Found out this morning that it's a girl! While both DH and I were expecting it, we're still in shock. We already have a son. We're boy experts! A girl is gonna be a whole new crazy adventure! I'm excited though!
Because it's killing me I have to wait so long to find out, I decided to take a moment and tally the current boy/girl ratio. I could have easily missed a few but what I got was...
I added both @musaftm 's girl and our boy. We found out a couple days ago, but I haven't been online much. We're happy about the boy, but this means we have a problem. We can't agree on a name so far LOL
We had no plans to find out but we had an unscheduled ultrasound at 17 weeks bc the baby had an irregular heartbeat (all is fine now, no worries). I was supposed to be looking at the heart, but all I could look at was the glaringly obvious male genitalia. My husband didn't notice it because he was being a good parent and looking at the heart.... the tech asked us if we wanted to know and because we were having a rough day (with the heart arrythmia and all) we said yes...and sure enough...BOY! It's the first boy on my husband's family (we have 4 nieces) and the only grandchild for my parents. SO excited. I had always thought it was a girl, but still painted the nursery blue.... 20 week scan on Monday. Can't wait!
auntieraindrop Oh dude. I felt the exact same way as you. It took about a week for both DH and I to process the news. Now I'm excited about having a boy, particularly after remembering what kind of horror I was from pre-teen years to adulthood. Hugs.
@auntieraindrop Take all the time you need. I've been convinced every time that it was gonna be a girl. I've got a son and another on the way, and I'll never know about the first. This is probably it for us, and I haven't really started processing yet that I won't have a daughter.
@auntieraindrop I was disappointed when I found out DS was a DS. He's a pretty awesome kid but I was so sure he would be my only so I was pretty bummed... for a few days. This time, we (I) intentionally wanted the age gap that we have because if I was having a boy then they would be best friends and it would be awesome. DH comes from a family of boy makers, so I figured it would be a boy. We did the genetics screening and I looked at the results online so that if it was a boy that I wouldn't let my disappointment show on my face. So I get being upset.
My daughter is getting a baby sister! Thankfully she is healthy and measuring on track, although the Doctor scared the shit out of my DH because of the 1% increased chance of Down's syndrome due to an echogenic cardiac focus. Prenatal testing is way more accurate and had been done, but we were still waiting for the results at my last appointment. DH stressed and couldn't absorb the rest of the info, but once the Dr was able to look at the results of my prenatal testing (took about an hour), the odds of Down's given went from 1:532 went to 1:13,000. I was mostly thankful that this cardiac issue will not effect her health, and it will most likely be gone by the time she's born.
This is my first child I actually had no clue the first 4 months I was pregnant I found out in the emergency room about two weeks ago it's all happening so fast but I'm having a healthy baby boy I found out already ! Abel Clayton Wayne can't wait to meet him.
