@whitta1218 you can exchange diapers at target, Walmart, etc for a different brand if baby has a reaction or if you just prefer a specific kind. I know from experience Target is great at allowing this
@whitta1218 People will buy you many kinds of diapers (many times it's what's on sale!). And you're right, the baby may have a reaction to certain diapers or may leak through some brands. I personally prefer Pampers, but I know everyone has the brand they prefer. I would just see what you get and try out different kinds until you and baby find the one you prefer.
I've always found pampers and Kirkland work best for me. No leak or sensitivity issues. Most babies are not picky on diapers unless they have a skin condition, it's what works for the mama and leak control. Oh, and some brands smell.
@ryannenikole - i'm only doing crib sheets. my mom makes quilts for new babies in our family/her circle of family friends, so we will have those for when the babies are older. The dust ruffle and the bumper and all the other add ons, to me, seem useless and expensive...
Anybody skipping the nursery bedding? I'm leaning towards a variety of cute crib sheets instead because he won't use the quilt.
ETA: I'm doing a registry at Target and Amazon.
That is a great idea! The cute bedding sets are so expensive! I'm debating on trying to make my own blanket, but no way am i spending $150 (Or asking somone else to) on something lo can't even use for 1 year, and is to small to use as a toddler bed blanket.
Are there any online baby registries that people can give money towards some of the bigger/expensive items? I had friends that had this for their wedding registry for people to put money towards different activities to do on their honeymoon.
Also anyone find crib sheets that are not pastel? I'd like to do a deep teal and purple for the nursery but am having trouble finding those colors. I took the colors from a quilt that was given to us for our wedding that I love.
@ryannenikole That's what we did. There wasn't really a point since he couldn't use a blanket for so long anyway. Plus I feel like most of them come with quilted bumpers which are actually illegal to sell in my state. We have 5 or 6 crib sheets, and a small blanket (3x4 foot or so) which is what DS uses in his bed now.
@kelk5 I'm using Baby List. They have a section that $$ can be put to a gift card, or you can put in a link to a paypal account (I think, I'm still messing with it a bit) Great thing is that there is an app for it as well. I'm not getting a kickback from all the different places, but I like having everything from multiple stores on one list.
@ryannenikole, we skipped the bedding and just got really cute crib sheets from Etsy. DD didn't sleep with a blanket until she was well over a year old (she slept in sleep sacks up until then). And at that point, she wanted her "lovey" blanket...not a quilt. I felt like the expensive bed sets were pretty unnecessary.

All of this! We also eventually got a mesh breathable bumper so she wouldn't get her arms and legs stuck in the slats.
I don't understand it at all. It seems like a really expensive changing pad that you can just stick the baby in somewhere. *note: I know it's not a changing pad, but basically... it's a pillow with walls just like a changing pad, it's just not designed to be peed on? I don't get it.
That said, I don't get the foam/fabric changing pads either. How do you keep them from getting soaked with pee? And why are the much more practical looking rubber ones so expensive?!
@auntieraindrop From my experience, the changing pad never really got soaked with pee. It's just a safe place to lay baby while you're changing it. The one I have is foam (I guess?) with a waterproof covering. I had a couple covers I would change out when they got dirty - more from poop. That's not to say my kids never peed on it, I don't remember if they did. Plus I always had the new diaper layed out under the baby so when I removed the dirty one, the clean one immediately went on.
@caeilievalor@jakobabyI have mom friends that love the DockATot. I have never used one myself. However, I want to emphasize that the DockATot is just a lounger, it is not meant for sleeping without direct supervision by a parent (per the DockATot website https://dockatot.com/pages/safety). It seems really expensive for that purpose.

Agreed with all of this. I also had a 3-pack of little plastic-backed changing pad liners (https://www.target.com/p/munchkin-3pk-waterproof-changing-pad-liners/-/A-14323622) that I'd put down on top of the big cover. But really once I caught on to the trick of putting the new diaper under the baby's butt before you take the old one away, there were few large-scale accidents.
You can add to some registries! Target lets you add stuff to their registry from any site, there's like a bookmark button you add to your browser, and when you click it, it adds that item to your registry. I used it to add something from L.L. Bean to mine!
@madcouplewithabox I've never seen those "Nuby Happy Hands" before but god, they would have been super useful with DS. He would chew on his mittens and then soak them. He always had so much moisture then in between his fingers that he would get gunk and grossness there if she were cleaning them constantly. I'm soooo happy you posted that screen shot. I'm gonna buy a few pairs of them! I'm weirdly overly excited about them lol

Just curious, but has anyone found a good baby monitor for two seperate rooms? I'm trying to find one that does a split screen where the audio will automatically switch to the room with the child who is making noise/crying. I thought I read online somewhere that this kind of monitor existed, but I can't seem to find one anywhere. If I can't find this, I'll probably just buy a second video monitor and just have both of them on during naps and bedtime.
Has anyone found/owned a wearable blanket or sleep sack with a hole between the legs so you can still buckle a car seat harness? I could swear I saw somebody with one when DS was a baby, but the only one that's coming up in my searches now is $100 which is ridiculous when regular ones are $20.
@bainidhedub I registered for one of those shower cap car seat covers. It doesn't interfere with any of the car seat mechanisms, but it should be fleecey and warm. Car Seat Lady approved.
@libbberty Mamaroo is essentially a really expensive swing; Rock N Play is more a replacement for a bouncy seat. Never heard of Rockaroo but it looks like a crazy expensive automated Rock N Play?
@libbberty the mamaroo is a little different than the swing, and while I loved mine, this time I'm getting a swing. Also, you can find those used since they are only really useful for a short-ish period of time. I'd skip the Rockaroo, it's just like a bouncy seat, and I'd 100% get the rock n play. It was amazing for my son, easy to put him in when I needed an arm free moment, and he slept in his rock n play till he was 3-4 months, mine had the auto rock on it and would soothe him right to sleep and it helped to keep him at a slight angle for his reflux.
Adding - we had a swing, no Mamaroo, and he slept in it for the first few months due to reflux. The Mamaroo struck me as crazy expensive for a relatively short-lived piece of equipment. We used the RNP around the house so he could be close but not in a lap. It's very lightweight, but I'm strongly considering getting a second one this time so I can keep one in the living room and one in the basement.
@Jmedeiros24 - Thanks, that's helpful. Everyone keeps saying "Get a rock n play!", but when I look at them online, I feel like there are 10 different versions. haha Deluxe, premium, auto, etc.
@bainidhedub I found a car seat swaddle thing at Gabes over the weekend. it was a super soft warm swaddle that had separate legs so you can buckle up between them. Ill check when I get home to see what kind of brand it is
