Re: Symptoms, Questions, Concerns - 8/29

  • I actually was planning to post in the old thread when I noticed how old it was, so here's my question/possible symptom.

I know nipple changes are to be expected in pregnancy. I noticed on one of my areolas that I have a brown spot--it looks like a light, flat mole or a birthmark. Anyway, I hadn't noticed it until a few weeks ago. I just assumed it was from pregnancy, but DH noticed it this morning and I just had this thought that I probably should check if this has happened to anyone else in case it is something abnormal. If not, I'll ask my OB about it at my next appt on the 6th and go to a dermatologist if necessary.

  • @MJDsquared I noticed the same on me yesterday. It's more like a freckle for me- but I've never noticed it before. At this point I'm not worried at all but I'll keep an eye on it
  • @MJDsquared @balletnerd the degree to which my nipples have changed through these two pregnancies has been nothing short of shocking. They got SO big and dark at the end with DS, then went back to normal in colour and size after a while, but now after BFing for over a year it's like they are permanently in headlight mode, there is no lowbeams anymore haha. And they are beginning to get bit and dark again with this pregnancy! So much fun haha

@MJDsquared I have noticed a freckle like dark spot on my nipple too. If you are concerned it can't hurt to ask at your next appointment.

eta: It's on my areola not my nipple.

  • @balletnerd @kvacmak @ktcakes87 Thanks, ladies! I'd say in color mine is more like a freckle too, but it's a lot bigger! I'll probably still mention it to the OB but now I feel like my original shrugging it off due to pregnancy was an accurate response.

  • Both this pregnancy and last, I had a ton of moles/freckles that showed up, only to disappear a few weeks later (none hung around after I had the baby).  One on my arm, is huge, just a little smaller than a dime.  I actually asked my dermatologist about it this winter at an appointment, basically said "you can't see it now, but I get a mysterious pregnancy mole riiiiiiiight here" and she just looked at me weird and said that she couldn't really examine it if it wasn't there.  Of course, it's back again now, in just the same spot.

So my takeaway has been that moles/freckles/skin tags are just going to come and go, and if they are still around post-baby I'll get them checked out.
  • I've also seen a lot of changes to my nipples and aureola. I've also noticed an increase in the number of skin tags, both around by breasts and along my panty line. Perhaps that is what some of us our seeing, I'm just not used to a skin tag in that particular place. I would question if that would cause difficulties when/if we start breastfeeding.

The thought of removal is ouch though.

  • A lot of my freckles have gotten darker, too!  (And I have so many that it's pretty hard to tell when new ones show up.)  I've read many places that pigmentation changes are totally normal, but if you're at all concerned take the 2min it takes to ask. The worst that happens is you're referred to dermatology.  The last time I got referred over they basically looked at my "questionable" mole, smiled politely, and told me that was not something to worry about but have a great day.

  • Freckles aside, I'd like to complain about one more symptom. There are so many random things on my body getting bigger, and I'm not 100% on board with all of them.  It's like:
    Bigger Boobs! - OK, ya!
Bigger Butt! - Eh, sure, I guess
    Bigger Feet! - Wait, what?
    Bigger Nose! - Stop!

  • @kickball7091 One of my biggest pregnancy fears is my feet growing. I already wear an 11, and lots of shoes don't go past 10, but 11 is at least easier to find than 12... REALLY not wanting to deal with that!

I have a big butt normally, but the other day I looked at my profile in the mirror and was like, "Wow, my butt actually looks kinda small because my stomach is so big." Hahaha.

  • @kickball7091 I am terrified of my feet spreading. I already wear a men's 4E.  There's nowhere left to go if they spread more.  Thankfully, they've maintained so far, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

  • @kickball7091 @MJDsquared In terms of feet getting bigger my podiatrist highly recommended wearing very supportive shoes with good arch support during pregnancy. The ligaments relaxing to prepare for childbirth extend into the ligaments of the foot and thus if not supported they will lengthen and possibly not go back. I got a 'cute' pair of sandals with arch support and have been trying to limit my flip-flop wearing... to try to prevent any stretching.
Podiatrist recommended Chacos, or even 'fit flops' as they have good arch support and can accommodate a swelling foot. I'm sure we'll have to get more creative when it gets colder... I'm in Texas so sandals will still work for a couple more months.

  • At this point I can't tell if my feet are *truly* growing, or if they are just swollen (my cankles are out of control). All I know is that my shoes are too tight, and I'm super annoyed that I need to buy new ones.
  • @stella_700  It's always been my understanding that skin tags like to appear in areas of heat/friction (sounds sexy, right?) and that some folks are just lucky and more prone to them than others.  My husband is constantly getting them in his armpits. So, I'd say getting them in the areas you are experiencing makes sense, since that is where our bodies are doing the most growing.  You may want to try and find a looser type of bra or tank, or underwear with either no elastic in the waist/legs or a kind where the pantyline is in a more comfortable spot.
  • @abcola Luckily for me I hardly ever wear flats/flip flops because I need something with a little more support (and a slight heel because I hate the totally-flat feeling), so hopefully that will work in my favor!

  • @Tennis11785 That's how I am shoe wise! I dont want to have to replace all of my shoes, or go up a size... I think its a vanity thing for me.
@peachy13 and everyone else I swear by that monistat chafing gel.... I've used it for a few years now for my thighs and it is amazing. When I wear dresses/skirts in the summer, or if I'm going to do a lot of walking, it saves me!!! I dont travel without it.

  • My feet grew with DD and they never went back. I have like 2 pairs of shoes now. I even lost 40lbs and it didn't help my feet at all. Scared about how big they'll be after this one.

  • My current concern.. is my pelvic floor. I've been reading a bit about it.. perhaps some biased information (maybe my own fault).. but there's physiotherapists that specialize in helping with pelvic floors that are weak, tight, etc. Some sites suggest it's never too soon to do the physio for it.. I don't know.. anyone have any experience with this or have been to a pelvic floor physiotherapist?
  • @dilbert890 yes!!! Me! I posted a week or so ago about my visit to PFPT. I saw them multiple times after my first birth and I've gone once already this pregnancy. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!

  • My feet also grew a half size with my DS and did not go back.  I'm praying they don't grow anymore with this one!
  • @Tennis11785 I'm with you on the shoes and the stretch marks!  I would be bummed if my little size sixes grew, but I'm not sure if I'd be as bummed as I was to find stretch marks.  I found a few small ones on the bottom of one boob last night (my first also) and I've been festering over it all day :s

    STUCK IN BOX

With DD, I moved when I was 6 months pregnant. I got my rhogam shot with my first OB, so I must have been 28 weeks when we moved. So, I got a new OB, hospital, everything. It was a little nerve-wracking, especially because we were also moving states and switching jobs so I had to make sure our insurance had kicked in and covered the new providers, but everything went fine. (and I got an extra ultrasound because I guess the new OB wanted their own images!)

My allergies suddenly got so much worse.  Tonight I lay down in my same bed, with my same comforter, on my same sheets (recently washed with my same detergent) with my same (purchased in the last 6 months) pillow, next to my same dusty nightstand with the same old dust, and out of nowhere I am just dying.  The AC vent is not that far away, but DH just replaced the air filters a few weeks ago, so I doubt that would be the issue.  I'd accuse him of rubbing a stray cat on my face, but I'm fairly sure I've been awake this whole time...

ETA the only Benadryl I could find expired July 2016.  This should be fun.
  • Well I experienced my first pregnancy leg cramp. I woke up at 5:00am moaning and saying "oww ow". It freaked my husband out, he was like "what's wrong!!"  He massaged my calf for me and he could feel it spasming. It hurt! I hope this isn't a regular thing now.

  • Hey everyone. I'm at 25 and a half weeks, been doing pretty well overall with a decent amount of energy, until today.

I think I slept well last night, but today out of nowhere I'm feeling exhausted.
I actually took off work and have been napping on and off.

Anyone else experience a sudden drop in energy like this?

  • I. Can't. Breathe.
I don't remember experiencing this so early with my other kids.. all three of my last babies didn't make me feel this way until the last month... but here I am, 27 weeks 5 days... And I'm constantly feeling like my lungs are being crushed.. I had an ultrasound about 2 weeks ago and baby is measuring right on point... he only weighed 1 pound 9 ounces at the time..
Yet I feel constantly like I can't take a full satisfying breath of air. It's very frustrating and I'm more irritable and I feel like crying because of it.
  • Thank you! I can't wait to check it out! @kvacmak
  • My energy has been hit or miss. I find eating has helped. I've worked my way up to a lot of food while maintaining (slowly gaining) weight. Eat some simple carbs and see if that perks you up.
  • @collectiveliving I have been super tired the past couple of weeks. When I first hit the second trimester, I had more energy, but now I just want to sleep.

Yeah I hear ya! I'm teaching a class once a week and I said to them I'm sorry if I just stop talking it's only because I can't seem to breathe!

Skin tags/spots are normal to increase during pregnancy. I have so many!

  • Anyone else's resting heart rate seem high? I've had a couple of sporadic blood pressure spikes, and my OB sent me home with a 24 urine container to bring back at my next appt in September, and didn't seem overly concerned about my high pulse rate, but it's more often than not around 115 resting and I think the culprit of why I feel bad sometimes as I I usually start to swell when it's up. Just a little frustrated, I know you typically have a higher heart rate in pregnancy but i didn't thibk it would make me feel bad.
  • I am soooo thirsty. Like I feel like I'm breastfeeding thirsty. I had over 100 ounces of fluids yesterday. 85 of those being water. Man! This is kicking my butt. Gonna grab some cucumbers and make cucumber water. It's so refreshing. Maybe it will Quinch my thirst.

  • I'm with everyone on the shortness of breath, though I'm hoping at least part of that is due to my lingering sickness because it was seriously tough just walking to the office from my car this morning (which is not far at all).

  • I have started having a burning/pressure feeling around the outside vaginal area. I think it's nerve related because it comes and goes based on how he's positioned. It can be really painful, almost like a bad bruise that I am pushing on. Anyone else with burning pain down there? It's definitely not a UTI or anything like that, it's a very different kind of pain.

Also, my sex drive is really amping up. I have been in a sexual coma since I got pregnant and over the last week things have definitely changed with my libido.
