Has anyone experienced severe fatigue and if so any advice? I'm a FTM, a little more than 5 weeks along and surprised to be feeling symptoms this early. Have been dog tired for the past 5 days straight. I've been avoiding caffeine for 2 months so I don't think it's a caffeine withdrawal issue, could be work but I've been getting plenty of sleep. I'd appreciate any advice.
I find that I hit a wall everyday around 2-3pm. I've just been taking naps to help with it. Thankfully I work from home so it's no big deal to just get one in.
@toesinthesand-2 - although doubling every 48 hours is ideal, my OB always says doubling 48-72 is acceptable. So if you take 72 hours into consideration rather than 48, there's not as much to panic about with your numbers. Are you going back for another draw soon?
Every since I was pregnant with DS, might feet swell once or twice a month. Not really sure the reason as I've tried to track sodium intake and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I usually take a diuretic to help, but can't now. Anyone have any other ways that work for swollen feet??
It got so bad at the end of my last pregnancy I was wresting flip flops to work and it was cankle central!!!
So I know it's important for the doctor to know what blood type you and your partner are because of Rh but what if you don't know your blood type? Would they just test us?
You'll have a blood draw, and probably several, over the course of pregnancy. You get tested for all kinds of bizarre things.....just wait until the butthole swab! I AM NOT EVEN JOKING!

Um oh, ok... I guess I'll keep up on my Brazillians then. lol

I know we have some UK people here too (at least I think we do). The NHS doesn't do the group B strep swab so no butthole swabs for you guys.
I'm going to see what my options are this time around. I tested positive with DS and the meds that gave me during labor made me so sick. The chances of it being an issue are so smal idk the point really

@kindbytealikat if you're GBS+ again (which is not a given -- I was positive my first pregnancy, negative the second), would you really take the chance? If you do happen to pass it to the baby during delivery the outcome can be pretty severe. Could you just have a plan in place to receive anti-nausea meds during labor if you are, indeed, GBS+ this time around?
It's not the same thing, but I know the anesthesia used during my csections make me sick. For my second csection, I alerted the staff before delivery took place and had anti-nausea meds via IV before I even had the chance to be sick.
@toesinthesand-2 the Dr I spoke to with last week regarding my hcg levels said they like to see it double but if not a 67% raise is considered good. Thought it was a weird percentage but that's what he said. So then to me your numbers look ok according to that. Hang in there!!

You just made me laugh so hard! I forgot about that part. My ob sneaked it in after a pelvic exam. He looked at me and said this next part is a little awkward for you and me

*TW Child loss* Ok, as someone who has coded a neonate with Group B strep sepsis, please reconsider this. There are other antibiotic choices you could discuss with your provider and ways to treat your symptoms. It's a small chance this will happen, but not none, and GBS sepsis kills babies.

There is a mom from the June 2017 BMB who's baby caught this because the antibiotics didn't work completely for her and now her baby has serious medical complications. It seems pretty scary.
By discussing my options I didn't nesssacarily mean not doing it. But discussion with my doctor on other treatment options or a planned csection is what I was leaning towards. I guess it seems so strange to me that it's not required other places if it's that big a chance. I appreciate your stories and concerns. I won't go against my doctor because I trust her wholeheartedly so if she says there is no other option then I'll listen.
By the time you get to that point, the doc will have had his/her hands inside of you so many times, it won't even matter.
At one of my last weekly appointments, DH was with me and his face in reaction to the doc checking my dilation was priceless. Afterwards, "I thought her hand was going to come out of your mouth."
And then during labor, forget it. Especially if you're at a teaching hospital. Fisting all the live long day.
Well I'm new to the new format on the bump, was much messier last time I joined a group with my first 10/15 baby. This will be my second. Anyway, bear with me, hopefully I get a response on this threat if this is the right spot for random questions. Well since my first baby we ended up moving states and I'm in the position of being 5 weeks with no dr (7 if you go by LMC). I think I would have gone back to the same hospital in my old state. I loved the nurses there, except I would have gone with the midwife group instead of the obgyn. Well it doesn't feel so simple deciding now that I'm in a new location. Basically my two choices for hospitals with midwifes I don't like, one doesn't have good review and the other seems so far and inconvenient for appointments with horrible parking/access. I did find a birthing center that is 6 blocks from the not so good review hospital that I really want to make an appointment with but it seems a little scary switching to midwife NO hospital. I'm all for it if it's not complicated, but then I worry what if it becomes complicated at the last minute? What am I just going to show up at the hospital with no dr? Does anyone have any experience with switching to a midwife from an obg? If so can you have both so you have a backup? Also my issue is DH is not on board with the outside a hospital option. This I'll have to work on.
@capricelili man stinks you are stuck with those options! Personally I switched to a midwife from an Ob gyn. I ended up actually switching back. I just never felt like I clicked with anyone compared to my previous Ob Gyn.
My main concern is the outside the hospital option. While a lot of women have great success delivering through a birthing center or at home. My cousin ended up having a placental abruption after deciding to deliver at home and things went awful quick. By the time she got to the hospital they were able to save the baby and my cousin but she did have to have an emergency hysterectomy. That being said a good midwife will know how to deal with emergency situations but just be prepared you may have to throw your birthing plan out the window if things go unexpected and a hospital is needed. Good luck!
Also I agree bump has gotten a little messy in my opinion. I miss the old way of things but understand why things are organized the way they are now.
Also the hospital with the bad review have you toured it and done further research? Reviews can be great but also biased and can give you a false impression of the place just fyi.
So, I woke up this morning with an awful sore throat. There's been a bad cold going around and I'm sure I've now caught it. I'll be calling my OB today to find out what's safe for me to take but I'm looking for some suggestions. Anyone have any safe for pregnancy home remedies to help relieve a sore throat??
@capricelili I'm not sure about that birthing center, but my best friend did all her appointments and attempted birth at the birthing center. Every patient that goes there still has to take a tour of the near by hospital in case things take a turn. So you get to know hospital docs just in case. My friend went to 42w and the birth center tried everything to induce her naturally but nothing worked. She was then transferred to the hospital where she still couldn't progress even with drugs. So she was an emergency c-section. I'm not knocking birth centers, I just wanted you to know most birth centers have a good back up plan in place so you won't feel like a stranger being admitted to the hospital in a worse case scenario. As far as the other hospital options near you, I highly suggest you find some local FB mom groups and make a post of "looking for OB/hospital recommendations". New comers do it all the time on my local FB mom group. There are so many options here, I don't blame them. Haha. Good luck!
Regarding the butt swab: It really is NBD, you barely feel it. I've had more uncomfortable experiences with underwear. I did test positive for Strep B at the time, and after I researched the possible consequences of not doing the treatment, I was all-in despite having a needle phobia. My comfort takes such a huge back seat to my baby's life. I don't give the slightest shit that it made me sick, and hurt like bajesus going in (cold + veins + 12 hours = ow).
Maybe I'm a weirdo but I think having a throat swab that makes you gag is way worse than a butt swab! Also, can't remember who said that but if you freak out for the butt swab, you are up for a ride when so many people shove their fist up to your cervix!!

Totally with you. I feel like motherhood makes you pretty casual about people around that end of your body, even before the baby is out.

I was positive with strep b in my first pregnancy. Those meds literally made my veins feel they were made of ice and about to explode!! So so sooooo painful.

I'm also going for just being my own advocate. Last time I casually mentioned how sick the meds were making me but didn't ask the doctor if other meds or anything were possible. This time around I plan to see what options are for treatment. Throwing up for hours isn't something anyone should go though if they don't have to just because they're(I) was afraid to speak up.
Obviously they didn't double, and it has this FTM over here feeling anxious. I've had one Ectopic (caught at 7 weeks) and one Chemical, and have never had my hCG be higher than 15 before. My doctor didn't seem that concerned, but she also didn't say that it was great. Basically it was "well we're just going to keep moving forward and being hopeful". She means well but it's not calming my fears. I'm 6 weeks today and don't have my first appointment for two more weeks.
Also, I think the rate at which your beta doubles slows down when you get over 1200. I think I read that somewhere, so it probably just has a slower doubling rate now that your level is higher.

Its more more awkward talking about it with the OB beforehand. "Sooooo it's that appointment. I'm just gonna swab your butt..."
