I think the BFing movement has gone too far. Everyone knows "breast is best" by now, and by hammering it at people so fanatically, you are just being a pushy jerk. It's gotten to the point where even supplimenting to rescue sugar levels in the hospital gets shamed (happened to me). Making people feel like shit, and not being understanding that there are extenuating circumstances is not ok.
I'm sick of it, and I didn't even formula feed my kid. I just supplimented at the beginning (which I got thoroughly shamed for) for medical reasons. I went on to breast feed for a year, and even became a NICU donor. Despite all that, I've never shamed anyone about formula, nor pushed BFing like a coke dealer.
I kind of second the solar eclipse thing. I think it's a neat thing and I'm looking forward to seeing it I guess. But what bothers me is that some people are getting out of school for it. I think the kids need to stay in school and the teachers use it as a learning tool. Obviously, just my opinion. Not wanting to ruffle any feathers. But it's a great opportunity for the kids to learn a little bit more about what's going on.
The last one my mother was teaching and they had to keep the kids inside for recess and close all the blinds because they couldn't let them watch it because of legal reasons.
@looeeze I feel you on the eclipse. I'm actually pretty annoyed by it because I'm right in the path of total eclipse and the amount of people expected to be here is ridiculous and things in town are shutting down because traffic is expected to be awful. I feel so bad for the people that are going to miss work because public transportation is shutting down.
UO: I side-eye anyone who proudly announces they "don't follow politics." I don't care what side you're on (well, I do, but I totally accept that not everyone shares my views nor should I expect them to), politics matters. Refusing to acknowledge what's going on equates to willful ignorance, IMO.

I'm actually super annoyed with groups/spaces/people that demand you keep quiet on politics. NO. Just no. Our country is in crisis, and it affects every aspect of our lives, whether you want to believe it or not. We need to talk about it.

You know what I love about this statement the most? You don't back it up with the reasons WHY you formula feed. I wish more moms would get that it's a totally valid choice that doesn't need one word of explanation. You FF, period, end of story, nunya.

Admittedly I've formula fed two kids at this point. With my first, I justified the hell out of the decision based on overwhelming personal guilt and the shame I faced from others. At this point I give zero fucks what anyone thinks. I'm more than happy to share my story with anyone struggling with guilt, but otherwise -- NOPE.

I couldn't agree more. I couldn't BF exclusively or for very long with DS, don't know if I'll even try with this one, and all the "look at all the benefits of BM!" makes me feel like crap. I get that the people/organizations pushing it are trying to educate people, and that's great. But there comes a point when it just makes formula sound like poison.
And yes I'm still very salty about not being able to BF so that definitely plays a big part in my viewpoint.

Girl yes! I'm still BFing (supplemented for a week because of jaundice) and I agree. But I think "breast is best" was started with good intentions but has turned into a pissing match on being the "better mom". In the same token though, "Fed is best" has become the angry response that down plays breastfeeding advocacy which sets breastfeeding education back so much.
Personally, I think "Informed is best", once you know all your facts and info. You choose what works for you and your baby.

If the school isn't doing something to showcase the eclipse I think it is totally rational to pull a kid out. The eclipse is a learning moment that I want my daughter to experience. I was planning to pull my daughter out of school b/c they didn't announce their plans to view it until this week. Now that I know they are going to teach her about the eclipse and let her see it there isn't a reason for me to pull her out. Plus we live in Nebraska in a prime viewing zone so we don't have to travel for it.
Now pulling the kid out and not educating them about the big moment is a different story to me.
@kindbytealikat aren't they shutting down traffic b/c of safety? I'm in a high view zone too and that is the rational they provided us on the news the other day (could be total bs). I think the eclipse should only last about a minute, so hopefully it doesn't shut transportation down the entire day (that seems excessive). I can see however, that if you aren't into the eclipse that it is annoying.
My UO - I don't understand why people take maternity pictures. All I think about when I see them is future awkward family photo threads. Most of my friends do them and I'm sure one day I'll wish I had done them, but so far I have zero desire to take them.

I love any reason to take pictures! I guess I am just a sentimental person like that? I just think there is something special about capturing the most important times in your life.

They are shutting our city transit down all day due to the number of ppl expected to be here. We're a town of 120K and they are projecting close to 300K ppl here for the event. I expect traffic to be a mess threw mid afternoon. The total eclipse is scheduled to be over at 1:15 here with the partial ending at 2:40
same here @kmalls formula fed from day one and after 3 months of guilt of doing it in public I got the zero fucks attitude.
@tgortney I follow this formula feeders blog and they support feeding no matter how and they usually use the mantra "bottle or breast, fed is best"
@angiek1 agree not a big fan of maternity shoots I just feel I would look gross. I know I probably wouldn't but just doesn't seem that thrilling to me.
My UO is i hate high heel shoes, they hurt, some of them are crazy looking, and they just don't seem like productive foot wear. Give me flats or tennis shoes any day.

I understand why other people do it but I have 0 interest in doing them myself. I can't imagine later looking at the pics like...aww wasn't I adorable with that belly? It's so not my style.
All the eclipse talk is driving me nuts. By, I work for an opthalmologist, so I feel I hear about it so much more than the average person. I don't think I would take my kids out of school for the eclipse (they don't go back until after labor day) but I don't see any issue with taking a kid out of school every once in a while for a day that could have learning benefits or for family events.
As for breast vs formula, I did each with my kids, and I think you do what works best for you. If you have no desire to breast feed, simply because you don't want to, then that shouldn't matter, it is your body and your baby. As for me, I am very honest with the fact that my main reason to breast feed is because it is cheaper, haha, and for me (and with DS, not at all with DD) it was easier.
Along the same lines as feeling the need to justify formula feeding, I feel like there is a similar issue with csections. I always felt like I had to justify my csection to people. I am very proud vbac/vaginal birth, and I do feel like the C-section rate is ridiculous high, but there are reasons when a s csection is needed and a doctor isn't being overly cautious or lazy. It doesn't help DD was breech, so people that wasn't usually a good enough reason.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I do think cute candid photos are great (or even telling your spouse, take my picture here next to the Christmas tree or whatever) but I probably won't be doing a staged photo session... but I can understand people who do... it's not my cup of tea though

Echoing PP who think we should all follow/talk politics more, not less! Totally agree! I think part of the reason our country is so divided and in such rough shape is because people don't talk to people outside their bubbles enough. (And I'm guilty of hanging out in my echo chamber too much too, but I'm trying to branch out!)
My own UO is that I think bacon is the most overrated food on the planet and I actually prefer turkey bacon to real bacon. (My husband thinks I'm nuts, but I swear it tastes better!)

@holly321 - girl YES. But I've found the people who make comments about csections are typically a totally different demographic than those who comment about breast vs formula feeding. With csection comments, in my experience, it's much older women who get judgy.
For example, my 80-something year old neighbor rolled her eyes when I told her I needed a c/s with my first, and said, "when I was having babies, nobody got csections." As if that DEFINITIVELY proved that csections aren't necessary. Unfortunately I have a hard time being snarky to older people so I said nothing, but in my head I was screaming "if I were having babies when you were, my son wouldn't have survived childbirth." So frustrating.
My OU: I get irrationally angry when people lie to their doctor. If you can't trust you doctor to listen to you find a new doctor. A doctor cannot do their job to their best ability when you lie to them. Your relationship with your doctor is like any other and there isn't any room for lies.

I get irrationally angry when people put up with bad doctors. They are a service industry and being super submissive to them is silly. They work for you. If they constantly screw up, are rude to you, or ignore your needs, GTFO. You wouldn't put up with that for something as unimportant as your morning latte, so why put up with it for medical care?
On that note, my UO is that little children should not be raised vegan. Unless the parents REALLY know what they are doing as far as micronutrients, etc. I'm not talking about green smoothies and chia seeds. It actually makes me really angry.

I totally agree with this. No one should put up with shitty care. I good doctor will be happy to discuss with you treatments and concerns. Don't submit to your doctor but listen to their reasoning and tell them your concerns. If they are still unwilling to listen GTFO of that office
My UO: I can't stand when other people tell me how to train my nervous/ aggressive dog. I'm the reason he is still alive, I am the reason he hasn't bit anyone. I'm sorry I can't take him off leash to a dog park. Sorry. I got told today I should either learn how to train him not to be nervous or give him to someone who can. I saved him from being put down and he hasn't bitten anyone since I've had him (since 2012).

I've been vegan for almost 4 years, my daughter is mostly vegan, and I don't plan on changing my lifestyle while I'm pregnant. There is SO much information out there to help you maintain a healthy vegan lifestyle. It can be done, and extremely easily.
