Re: Questions week of 8/6

  • I made sure to schedule us so DH could be there but I don't know what he's thinking for office visits

  • @hedgepig I'm definitely going to look into that then! Thank you!!
@natalknitter15 oh my goodness, I'm super impressed. During my first pregnancy I had the mindset of "there's no way I can handle the pain" so I got the epidural as soon as I was admitted. This time around I'm really really going to challenge myself and try to prepare as much as I can for an unmedicated birth. Thanks for the info!
@lolablue3 you are a champion for making it that far! I was such a chicken and was ignorant to other types of births.
  • My husband usually only goes to the first and the a/s @holly321 cause really it's just a normal appointment.  Plus his office is like 2 minutes from where my Dr is so if there is a problem he would be there in no time. But it's what ever you and you SO feel comfortable doing

  • I've been worried all day. I have a slightly pink tint on toilet paper when I wipe. I'm 5+3 and had nausea and tender boobs but I'm not as nauseas and my boobs feel a lot less tender. Anyone know if this is normal?

  • @karabeers it could be totally normal, but I'd give your OB a call in the morning just to be safe.
  • @holly321 my husband will only go to the "big" appts -- dating ultrasound, NT scan, anatomy scan. All the other appts are just office visits and I'm in and out in about 10 minutes. Not worth him leaving work for that.
  • Is anyone switching or have switched their Ob gyn for this pregnancy? My current Dr has delivered my last 2 babies and I absolutely love the practice. But the hospital they're affiliated with not so much. Plus they don't take my secondary insurance. I'm so nervous to change but know I need to. I made an appt with a new Dr and am nervous!

@karabeers yes could be completely normal! I bled for 9 days with my 2nd around this time..in fact I thought it was a period and it wasn't. Found out the next month I was pregnant. Also my girlfriend spotted a lot during her pregnancy and she has a healthy 5 year old now!
  • @ktw1518 I would probably speak with your Dr see what they recommend. May be walks or yoga, learning breathing techniques could help? But if the anxiety is getting worse I'd speak to a professional to see what they recommend:) with my 2nd Ihad awful anxiety and I wish I would of spoke to someone about it.
  • DH went to every appointment first pregnancy, he'd lucky to have a flexible job. For this pregnancy he'll just be at scan appointments because I'll rather him stay home with DS

  • @karabeers, definitely phone your doc and see if he/she recommends you coming in.

I can tell you that some women just occasionally bleed during pregnancy.  I am one, myself, and even though I bled so badly in week six with my daughter that multiple docs agreed I had miscarried, she mustered through just fine, and eventually had to be kicked out via induction because she wasn't budging, even at 41.5 weeks.

  • @lesliegolem I'm switching! We moved so I had to find a new provider but honestly, I'm not happy with them. The OB I saw wasn't very supportive of a VBAC for me so I'm going to a birthing center with midwife care. My VBAC will be in the hospital though but my midwives will have full rights and access. I'm super excited about it. My birth with DS was a traumatizing experience so I hope this one will be better.
  • @holly321 DH only came to u/s appointments. The regular ones took 5-10 minutes and it wasn't worth him taking the PTO.

  • @holly321 I think I'll only have my DH come to the important appointments that involve ultrasounds. Unless they plan to give us test results or something at a random follow-up appointment I don't feel he needs to be there for all of them unless he really wants to.
  • @holly321 H will go to the first one. Other than that he will just go to u/s and any NIPT appointments. The other monthly (then biweekly, then weekly...ugh) appointments I don't feel like he needs to be there, unless he wants to.

  • @holly321 MH will only go to major appts with me. It's a 1 - 1 1/2 hour drive to my appointments, so it's definitely not worth taking time off work. Plus, I think he'd be bored.

  • @valerieairam
my husband loved "the expectant father" and "the new father" by Armin A. Brott.
He's been buying it for his friends who are father to be!
  • @lesliegolem @ngolimento @kindbytealikat thanks ladies! Going to call my ob this morning but I appreciate the feedback

  • @holly321 DH will be going to the anatomy ultrasound. He went to more appointments with our first but his job is too difficult to get time off and I'd rather him save the days for when I'm in labor!!
  • @holly321 my husband didn't go to any of my dr visits with my first, but I always tell him when the appointments are in case he decides he wants to go. He was upset though when he found out he missed the appointment where he could hear the heartbeat. He did go with me though when I went to a company that would do an ultrasound at 18 weeks to find out the gender

Anyone struggle with anxiety? I have always dealt with it and in my first pregnancy it was really bad in the beginning. I'm almost 6 weeks and getting such bad panic attacks! It's terrible. Anyone have any safe tips for dealing with this?
Hey, KTW- So sorry to hear you're struggling.  I've experienced anxiety and panic attacks over the course of my life.  Depression too.  A few things I would recommend, in general (I'm a psychotherapist): 1.) Therapy!  When I work with clients experiencing symptoms that you're reporting, I generally check in with them regarding sleep, physical activity, how they're eating, and gauge the quality of their social support network.  I also teach them various mindfulness exercises.  Which leads me to..... 2.) Mindful breathing, meditation, yoga, progressive relaxation.  If you're an app person, there are lots of apps to download.  Headspace is one, but google away to find one that fits your needs.  When I've suffered from panic or waves of anxiety, I practice a technique called Square Breathing- it's also my 'go-to' exercise to teach clients.

Hormone changes and a big life transition= perfect combo for anxiety.  The worst feeling.  Hope you get back to good soon.

@1fish2fishredfish thanks so much! I have a phenomenal therapist that I see but right now I'm too anxious to even go sit and talk to her. Maybe when these crazy hormones calm down! Those are some great recommendations, I appreciate it! Just read about square breathing...sounds great I will definitely try!!

  • @karabeers any update? I just started spotting ugh and now I'm worried. Hopefully it's nothing for both of us!
  • @lesliegolem
I had blood tests, pelvic exam, and an ultrasound. Dr said causes could be the cervix not being completely closed (mine is closed fully), ectopic pregnancy (mine is not, ectopic is apparently pretty painful so if you're in pain, get checked out for sure.), polyps could be another cause (though I have none visible), blood tests are making a marker of the hormonal levels for future reference and checking the progesterone levels. If progesterone is low, this could mean that the cervix could be thin and you would just need to take supplements.

They're doing all these tests for me because I have a family history of multiple miscarriages for generations. They said as long as it is light pink and no tissue or clots come out, keep an eye on it and take it easy. If you have clots or red discharge, call your doc.

  • @lesliegolem, FX for you.  While it is hard not to worry, some people are prone to spotting.  I spotted for about 2 weeks with my first pregnancy, for my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies, I think I would categorize it as bleeding, since I needed a pad, but it happened for about a month with each.  I have now been spotting for a week, and while I keep telling myself logically everything is okay, I can't help but going through periods of freaking out.
  • I'm considering getting a home Doppler to listen to baby's heartbeat. Anyone have one they love and recommend?

  • I'm considering getting a home Doppler to listen to baby's heartbeat. Anyone have one they love and recommend?
@Duckybears I have a SonolineB and that seems to be the go-to Doppler for most people (my OB even uses it). It does take some time to figure out how to find the heartbeat, but as long as you go into it knowing you may not find it and that's ok -- I think it's totally worth it. There are YouTube videos that I found super helpful in outlining how to find a heartbeat.
  • @holly321 thanks for the encouragement! The Dr called today said my hcg was normal for where I should be at Friday but have to go back In Monday to make sure the numbers have increased. I'm nervous but trying to remind myself that many women have spotted and their pregnancies go completely fine. Here's hoping everything is going well with out peanuts!!
