We didn't have a nursery for DD because we lived in a very small in-law apartment at the time, so I'm super excited to be doing a nursery with this LO. We used the bedding set above for DD and will be reusing it again. I only bought the crib skirt, sheets, and comforter. No bumper or other accessories. I haven't decided what I'm going to use to decorate the rest of the room yet. I should get on that lol
DS room was decorated Hulk themed because his name is Banner and is totally named after Bruce Banner. We lived in a small apartment and didn't get to plan a nursery and when we moved in to our house when he was 4 months I kinda half assed his room. Now he's going to be sharing a room with his 13 year old brother who is here every other weekend. This will work out because SS's room is already decorated with Avengers stuff so we can incorporate the Hulk stuff that I have for him.
So now I get to think and plan a nursery for this little lady and I'm still not quite sure. I think I have general ideas and colors, but nothing in particular that I'll be picking up. We have a crib that was scratched up paint-wise during our move so I'm thinking I'll repaint it. And we have a changing table that I hate and has weird screws underneath that I'm so afraid will scratch everyone so I'm going to trash it and pick up an Ikea dresser. I haven't even thought about bedding. I really just change the sheets so much that none of them ever matched anyway. But I guess if I'm going to have a theme this time I should look into it further. And her name is Lorelai and is named after the Gilmore Girls so I thought it would be fitting to have something GG themed in there.
@supercoolstephy Love the ideas for the room! I love even more that you're naming your LO after Lorelai from GG, and I keep forgetting to tell you that. I'm a huge GG fan!
@Peepster thanks. I'm a huge fan too. I'd always wanted my girl to be named Lorelai and both my ex husband and my current husband veto'd it, not that my ex and I had children. But when DH agreed this go around I did not question it. haha.
I'm still not sure which Ikea dresser I want though. I like the smaller one because the bedroom isn't HUGE but I think the double will be better to grow into and really, the only thing that will be in there is a crib, a recliner for a bit, and a dresser, it should fit.
@supercoolstephy We have the Hemnes dresser (the one in your pictures) and they are pretty massive but the drawers are nice and spacious and the short one is great for a changing table bc it's nearly counter-height so you don't have to lean over too much. However they ABSOLUTELY need the wall anchors, they are part of the recall group. DS has started (somehow??) opening all the drawers on the tall dresser and it would 100% tip over if it wasn't anchored.
@bainidhedub we are totally putting the anchors in. I remember hearing about the recall. We just picked up a bookcase from them in December and they came with the anchors already, hopefully this will too. We have a three drawer dresser for DS and I just remember wishing that we had more space to store all his blankets, burp rags, and bath towels, plus all of his sleepers and stuff that he lived in for most of the time.
DS was born 10 days before our lease was up at the place we lived in at the time, so I didn't get to do a nursery for him until he was 4 months old and finally found time. This time around I was super excited to decorate...until I realized it was literally the exact same situation. I'm due 1/19 and our lease is up 1/31. Soooo no nursery decorating this time around either. I wish we could just stay put, but our current apartment is wayyyy too tiny for 2 adults, 2 kids, and dog. Oh well. I'm still excited to decorate, even if I won't have time till march or April, lol
@livingoffpbjs DS room is a pure mess. Nothing is really decorated. We have a few hulk pieces hanging on the walls and thats about it. I think this time it's like having a first because I actually get to do it beforehand because trying to do it when you're in the chaos of having a new baby and returning to work and being lazy like I am was too much. DS wont remember but I will and I feel bad... sorta.
@supercoolstephy We would totally use Lorelai as a potential name, but it would be a mouthful with our three-syllable last name. And I don't know that I'd want to use a shorter nickname, because I think Lorelai is just so pretty! That's great that you were able to get it approved this time around!
I like your idea about growing into the double dresser. She won't have many clothes at first, of course, but I'm sure she'll need the extra storage later on. And it would be a great place to store extra blankets, towels, toys, etc. I say go big!
@Peepster I referred to her as Lor this morning to DH and he was like NO. She's Rory or Lorelai. But I've been feeling a little like she's a Lor. I'll call her whatever I want. haha
Think cabin in the woods! My mama has already laid claim to helping with a lot of the nursery decor wise and we are big diy-ers so I'm excited! I just picked up a really cute moose stuffie with a buffalo plaid print shirt and hunting vest from Hobby Lobby!
@BrandedCowgirl92 We did a lumberjack first birthday party for DS and picked up so many awesome things from Hobby Lobby. They carry so much in the fall but you have to pick up the buffalo plaid fabric super early.
@gusgus14, I absolutely love the flamingo theme. But especially because you're doing it with dark walls. I'm always drawn to nurseries with dark walls. @juliagulia719, that is going to be so pretty. I LOVE Rifle Paper Co. Did you know they're about to put out another collaboration with Keds? I'm so excited to get some comfy new shoes with their designs. @jakobaby Do I spy a West Elm Graham glider in your son's nursery? And if so, how do you like it? We just picked up a used one, and I'm so excited to get it reupholstered. Is it as comfy as I'm hoping? @BelleZBoo Your son's nursery sounds gorgeous. Do you have pictures?
This is our starting point. This is the nursery we started to put together for our first little guy. We stopped decorating it after we got the bad news about his heart, because we weren't sure if he'd survive. All the handmade projects--the curtains, quilt wallhanging, and embroidered pillow--are a monument to the love and hope we had during that pregnancy, but it's bittersweet. I need to change the room up, so I can stop crying every time I go in there.
We are keeping the crib, wall color, light fixture, and curtains. I don't go for strictly themed rooms, but I like a dreamy, fairytale feel. I like navy and aqua with rusty orange and tiny pops of deep purple. In a couple years, I figure HE will be choosing the decorating. So for now, I want to make it pretty. For me. So I can enjoy the room when I'm up with him at 3 am!
The art, chair, rug, and accessories will be changed. We need blackout shades under the curtains. We need a dresser. We found a fancy but filthy West Elm glider on Craigslist for $75, and I'm so excited to get it reupholstered in navy. This is my loose plan for the room now.
@PleaseSendPicklesNow good eye! Yes it's the Graham glider. I like that it's easy to clean and it is comfy, but I kind of hate the arm rests. They're thinner than I would like. I sat in a comfort one at PBK but didn't want to spend the extra cash for it. I definitely slept in it a lot though. I recommend an ottoman.
We've decided we're going to use DD's crib for this baby girl and we are getting a bunk bed in DDs room so when LO is old enough, they can share the room. So far this is what I'm liking for nursery ideas: and and for the girls room we are thinking this type of bunk bed
@PleaseSendPicklesNow The only photo I have on my phone is below from when it was first finished. A photo gallery of old maps and family photos was added near the glider. I love that it has grown with him as well.
Here's a few photos of DS's room when we first finished it - I wish I'd taken some proper photos. We hung the animal quilt on the wall above the changing table (dresser), and also have a dark gray rocking chair and a chevron-ish patterned shower curtain in place of a closet door. I love the alphabet letters, they were all painted by the ladies who came to my baby shower. The mobile went above the crib until DS got bigger and managed to pull it down.
@agalvarado I love your pic of the white room with the green curtains and plant prints! The colors are so simple and fresh. I wasn't really sure where to start with this nursery, but now I feel inspired!
We're thinking about doing a space theme for the nursery. We don't know whether it's a girl or boy yet, but I think the idea is gender neutral. Also, DH's granddad worked for NASA and we have some really cool framed pieces from his time there, including a little American flag that flew on the Challenger in space!
I clearly don't go here... My theme for ds' nursery was "blue". And if we have a girl this time, we'll keep the white furniture, move the blue stuff out and make it "pink." That said, I really should come up with some ideas of what I want and don't want
Both grandmas are crafty and I found out last time that they will contribute to the nursery. So I might as well have it coordinated.

I want to use neutral colors, mainly, with something like this at the center of a gallery wall with quotes or art from each book surrounding it. It's sort of a twist on adventure, I guess. Truthfully I haven't REALLY decided.
Somewhat related question, where does everyone get their furniture? I need to buy a twin bed for DS and move him out of the crib and into his big boy room.
@jakobaby - these are our first kids, but we went with pottery barn kids. i love their quality, and when it's time for them to get big kid beds, we will most likely shop from there again!
@KatieEl@caseyw8784 thanks for solidifying my decision! I have a twin bed (Kendall) picked out from PBK but wasn't sure if there were other options that I didn't know about. I like Land of Nod too, but I'm able to get something cheaper at PBK. We did PBK for DSs nursery and the quality seems to be good overall.
Sorry if I posted too many pictures! If it's a boy, I'm totally doing a HP nursery. If it's a girl, I'd probably wanna do something ridiculously girly and pretty lol
@steph30032 - I LOVE all the harry potter stuff! if i had more patience to hunt down and find all the fun stuff, we might've gone in that direction...lol
We're aiming for a "scout" theme for our little twin girls, which opens us up to woodland/camping, plus all kinds of adventure/exploration (there's a merit badge for everything)! We want to emphasize science, so stars, rockets, dinosaurs, animals of all kinds-- it might be a bit broad, but we don't like to be pinned down. Lots of green and yellow, and then leaning towards vibrant colors. At least, that's our starting point!
