Re: Weekly questions 7/30

  • What are yalls opinions on poached eggs during pregnancy? I know generally speaking anything raw is a no-go, but I've seen some pretty good arguments for sushi on here. I used to have avocado toast with a poached egg for breakfast every morning and I miss it so much  :s

  • @ShawnnaO I miss my over medium eggs too! Is there an "as long as its pasteurized" argument on this one? I'm getting so sick of scrambled eggs.
  • @vflux33 scrambled eggs make me SO SICK, even when I'm not pregnant!
  • @ShawnnaO You can pasteurize your eggs yourself at home. There are instructions if you Google (I don't have any preferred method so I won't link). I would do that and always make sure to use super fresh eggs and would probably go beyond what the package says. So, for example, if the package said to sell by August 4, even though you normally get at least a week after sell by, I wouldn't use them after that. I'd even start buying smaller portions so we'd be sure to get good turnover.

  • @kiki75 we go through a dozen eggs in three days with just my husband alone, so they're always fresh in my house!  :D
  • Too many to tag, just wanted to say thx to everyone who gave their 2 cents on midwives and VBACs...in Canada we can choose either a doctor or midwife and either are covered through our healthcare, so it really is just up to preference...now to make the final decision,.. thx again!
  • I have so, so many what ifs and fears, not just because I'm high risk. Just my anxiety ridden self I guess.  :/ Kudos to you that do home births at all. I'm too nervous to even consider it for a second.
  • @kalawa @rachel2107 thanks for easing my mind !  I could eat Thai and Vietnamese everyday

I know nothing about vbac or hbac.
All I can say is I personally would be terrified to have a home birth. ( personal choice no judgement over here for home birth mamas ! ) So I'll be going to a maternity clinic which has 4-5 midwives and 1 OB on staff and having a hospital birth most likely with one of the midwives. They won't take appointments until you have a dating ultrasound and are 11 weeks
  • @bettyvonsomethingstein Do you mind sharing your vbac experience? No pressure, just asking.
  • @bettyvonsomethingstein, I teared up reading this! I'm so glad you had such an amazing VBAC experience. And oh my goodness. SIX HOURS of pushing!!!!! YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!
  • @bettyvonsomethingstein thank you so much for sharing your story!  So amazing and inspiring to read!

I'll be considering a VBAC for this baby, but really not sure about it and need to put some serious thought into it as this pregnancy progresses.  Do you mind me asking if you were induced when you had your section?  I was overdue and induced with my 1st which ended in a section.  The induction definitely played a big part in things not going well, but I've been told I wouldn't be induced again even if I choose a VBAC.  Definitely interested in a VBAC vs planned section thread in the future to hear some other stories from STM+ moms on this!
  • @bettyvonsomethingstein WOW doesn't even begin to describe this!!! So powerful and THANK YOU for sharing this!!!!! Wow!

I can't believe you had a doc that let you push for so long. That is truly a great hospital and doc.

    Such an incredible story!!!

isntthatspeshul I'm taking diclegis and it has changed my life. I take it before bed so I'm not really feeling the fatigue during the waking hours. I noticed a difference in my nausea immediately.
  • @barrelocarol, it seems like the hospitals and doctors are going back to being more vbac supportive even in the last 2-3 years.  Not many docs in our area used to be, and now so many are.  It's wonderful.

  • @scotiagirl, yes, I was induced the first time.  I know many people have had super successful inductions.  Mine was just an overall bad experience from the very beginning.

@bettyvonsomethingstein same deal here.  And my mom had 3 really successful inductions so she was even in more shock than me when mine went so poorly.  So glad to hear that you had a successful VBAC after an induction that went poorly!!
  • @bettyvonsomethingstein thank you. I'm a FTM and can't relate to the whole vbac experience
... but hearing your story just made me super emotional and excited. thank you. it's one of the first super positive thoughts I've had in a while
  • Anyone else have to break out maternity clothes yet or the belly band and keep pants unbuttoned? Some of my shorts already feel snug I think I have to break out belly band soon. I'm only 8 weeks and was hoping to at least wait till I'm out of the first trimester for all that lol  :o

  • @jerseygirl9090, not yet. But only because I've been rocking leggings for the past 7 months. It's hot, but worth it for the belly comfort. (I'm overweight to begin with though)
  • @jerseygirl9090 yep. I can't button any of my jeans. I'm around 9 weeks and look more like I did at 19 weeks with my first. I know it's all bloat but I can't believe how big I am already!
  • Okay can anyone talk to me about maternity undies? My regular ones are bugging me this time and I didn't have that problem with DS. Motherhood Maternity?? Amazon?? Some other brand?? Also, I'd prefer that they at least are offered in cute colors other than nude, white or black. Bahaha. #personalityquirk

@jerseygirl9090 I busted out the Maternity shorts several weeks ago. Comfort is my number one priority and the bloat is real over here every day by 5 pm.
  • @mdfarmchick I like the ones from the GAP, but they only come in boring colors. ;)  At least that's all they had last time.

  • I just sized up in my regular undies last time and had them go below the bump. Anything low rise. I don't really know what the concept of maternity underwear is, I guess.
  • I need to find my bigger undershirts and tanks, might are riding up. Yahoo!
  • @jerseygirl9090 I pulled mine out today!!  I'm only 6 weeks so it feels pathetic, but I've been crazy bloated and it's so much more comfortable this way.  I'm currently wearing maternity jeans with a belly band over them to keep them up.  A million times more comfortable than my regular pants, and I'm pulling at them to try and adjust them way less too!
  • Maternity pants forever here. I love maternity jeans. I have a hate for buttons.
  • I whipped out the belly band today because I couldn't find a tank top, and my shirt was a little short. And my pants button was digging into my stomach.
  • I love that so many of us are rocking maternity clothes already.  I'm only 8.5 weeks but the bloating is making my jeans uncomfortable so I caved.  Just wondering though.... does anyone else find because they aren't quite big enough yet, that their mat pants keep riding down? I keep having to yank them up.... very annoying
  • @mdfarmchick I ran into these beauties while searching for maternity pants on Amazon. I can't decide if they are funny or freaky.

Yes. Also, I feel like the full panel ones (which I far prefer!) really accentuate my bloat and make me look more pregnant than I am. Since we haven't announced widely yet, that's not ideal. Soooo I'm just living in stretchy clothes for now.
  • I agree with @pbtoast on the maternity wear accentuating bloat right now.

I'm likely going to give it a few more weeks before I start wearing maternity, but for now I'm mostly wearing my post-partum clothes that are roughly a size bigger than my normal clothes.
  • @Knottie9983816 . Did you try B6 and unison first?  I just started doing it and I don't feel too much different. Thinking I may want to call for a script tomorrow morning.
