TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Diagnosis (If you've been): Unexplained

Cycle/CD: 12/22

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) We did IUI this cycle

How are things going? Woke up this AM to a BFN so I am feeling down. I have to decide if this next cycle we want to do IUI or just a medicated cycle since we are going to be away on CD9-11, which is early, but I have ovulated that early before (I did this past cycle), and I don't want to miss it and I don't want to cancel out trip.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) IVF consult Wednesday! Not hopeful though

How are things going? Had a busy weekend with class. Today is the last day for this session until next month. MH is making me do this new crossfit inspired gym with him, so we are going to another class tonight. Last week was our first week and I still have sore abs. I was contemplating not signing up for the month in case we decided to do IVF, but I also feel like I need to stop letting IF run my life and it is a one month gym membership so I am going to do it.

Any questions? Really just for @BusinessWife I am so curious what your H's results were. I have been reading up on studies about virtual azoo and TESE vs ejaculation. Even though our situations are different, I feel like you and @alohakumu are the only two that I am close enough to the same boat.

GTKY: What languages do you speak? Any that you wish you spoke? English. I took 5 years of Spanish so I can understand a good bit and when I am forced to use it at work, I can get my point across in some pretty terrible broken Spanish, but I only speak in the present tense! My bro and SIL are deaf, and my mom had an acoustic neuroma so she is also losing her hearing, so I know sign language. I never took classes so some of it isn't great, but I can definitely have a conversation.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?). IUI this cycle. I got my period on Saturday so I have to call today to set up a meeting with the doc and just all get on the same page as far as game plan

How are things going? I'm actually excited. Hopeful. I feel like we will have a better chance this month than what we've had so I'm ready to rock and roll.
And I was on Etsy and saw those "IUI got this" socks. Figured I'm already dropping 2k for the IUI so what's another $10 for luck?

GTKY: What languages do you speak? Any that you wish you spoke? Only English. I wish I knew Italian. My dad started to teach me when I was young but didn't stick with it. Although, he knows dialect so it wouldn't have gotten me very far if I ever went to Italy. I also took Italian in college so I know a little bit. I also always try to interpret my cousin's fb and Instagram any time they post prior to hitting the interpret button, so that counts as learning still, right?

What are you doing this cycle? First RE appt tomorrow. Hoping he'll start some testing, and of course we will still be trying on our own (O later this week) Maybe I'll still have some HSG magic...

How's it going? Good. So excited for the RE appt tomorrow. I'm so anxious to find out what the doctors course of action recommendation will be. I have about 10 pages of questions that I'm bringing with me! I have heard great things about this doc so I am ready!

Any questions? I have a ton of questions but anything I should definitely ask that may not be obvious? Since I'll be CD 11 do you think they'll do any testing or would they keep it all throughout the same cycle?

How are things going?

Things are fine. H goes in for a surgery consult in a couple of weeks, and I'm hoping he'll also agree to get a second opinion. His bw came back normal, so they only thing they've found is this tiny, grade 1, subclinical varicocele. Official recommendation of both the AUA and ASRM is not to do surgery in this situation, so I'm curious why H's RU wants to.

Only English fluently. I know some Spanish, but I'm probably so rusty now that it's not useful. There are a couple that I would like to learn, but nothing I'm really willing to commit to learning.

@RVAmom315 That's great that you are so excited for your meeting. I know I felt so much more in control after first meeting with my doctor. Have you had any of the preliminary testing done? They will likely have you come in CD 3 of your next cycle to do all the blood work and maybe schedule and HSG. Let us know how it goes.

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): WFAF - but not really since we aren't in treatment right now.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) We did all sorts of blood work and a SIS this cycle. Testing is now officially complete and we are scheduling a follow up with RE and an appt with the social worker to get ready for DE IVF.

How are things going? Fine. I'm so tired of all of this. I'm excited that we are moving ahead with this next step but also so tired of not getting KU.

GTKY: What languages do you speak? Any that you wish you spoke? I don't speak anything but English. I'm terrible with languages and often can't even understand someone with an accent. It's very sad. I wish I paid more attention in Spanish class or took French later on. My sister-in-law is from France so all her kids speak French. I'm so jealous of them.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Follistim, trigger, IUI and progesterone

How are things going? Finally got some good news at my bw and u/s today! I have 1 follie at 16 and another at 18, so trigger should be tonight and IUI tomorrow. I just have to see how my bw is looking. Considering I had 1 egg at 10 on Friday, I'm pleasantly surprised! I'm hoping they both drop. I'm going to ask my nurse friend to trigger me tonight, DH still doesn't want to do it..

I think it this cycle isn't it for us we're going to step back from treatment for an undetermined amount of time. Definitely next month since we'll be moving. After that..I just don't know. The side effects I've had from the injectibles are overwhelming. I've been extremely depressed and it's affecting every part of my life and relationships. It's actually been really awful. The months we took off for travel I did not feel this way so I'm pinpointing it to the meds. I'm so relieved to be done with them for this cycle and feel nothing but dread when I think about taking them again. It's a tough place to be in and DH and I have talked hours and hours about what to do. We want a baby more than anything, but this depression is really affecting our decision to move forward with any further treatment. I think we'll reassess after we move and decide if we want to try unmedicated IUI cycles or move forward with adoption at that time.

@beachbunnyxo123 Once we are matched with a donor she will need to complete a questionnaire and do some testing and then we will both go on bc to sync I would guess it will be about 8 week from now depending on how soon we can meet with the doc and social worker and how easily we are able to choose our donor. Hopefully whoever we choose will be available and pass the testing easily.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) 5mg femara+ trigger+ IUI (This is up from 2.5 last cycle, I Only produced one follie on 2.5 so we are trying to get a second follie)

How are things going? ummmmmm, ok I guess. If this IUI doesn't work then we are moving on to IVF. I have stressed about the financial commitment of IVF plenty but this month I am actually starting to think about the emotional and physical cost and it has been a little tough to swallow

Any questions? For those who transitioned from IUI to IVF, is there anything I can do this month to get ready? Any tests I should advocate for or literature I should get familiar with?

Just English (took Latin in high school- helped a BUNCH on SATs but zero real world application). My BIL is fluent i Spanish and DH and I Joke our kids will go to Spanish camp at Casa de Tio each summer because I would love for them to be multilingual. The language I most want to learn is ASL @JuneRoseRuby so cool that you know it! Do you use it in treatment sessions ever? I have a few kids who sign but I only know the basics.

Letrozole, trigger, IUI

How are things going?

Not good, bfn this morning and I just don't know what to do. Everything creeps up so quick in terms of decisions. We talked about if this didn't work moving on to injectables so basically this gives me 4 days to get meds ordered and see about meeting with the midwife to learn how to do them it's just so stressful. Like I don't know why it always has to be like this when moving on to another cycle it's the stress of omg I have to call now and get my meds called in so I don't order them early since we are OOP and what if we were KU and didn't need them. I don't know what to do. Also I'm concerned about the injectables *TW* as my doctor talked about high risk of multiples (more than twins) and fetal reductions which I would never want to have to make that decision. I mean I've had 2 mature follies every cycle and haven't had success so but still. End TW* I just don't know. I'm so sick of seeing stark white tests. And it's crappy out today. Of course I'm still trying to hold out hope that it's still early.

Why are injectables more successful then oral meds? I still just don't get all of this. I ovulate fine every month even before meds. Do injectables improve egg quality? I don't get it. And are they done days 3-7 but US every other day?

</div><div><b>How are things going?</b> Okay! We read <i>Wish</i> together, so that was special. And DH warned me that when/ if the time comes, he is going to go hardcore nesting-mode lol. No complaints!</div>
<b>Any questions? </b>@JuneRoseRuby So our case is what it is. We have four vials - two MESA samples, two TESE samples. The MESA samples looked like they had "lots of sperm," at first, but after the freeze/thaw test looks like more like "hundreds" they are working with rather than thousands or millions. TESE samples have more other tissue in there, besides just the sperm. So those he said we're working with only about 10-50 per vial. :# In our case, the Andrology Lab Manager said our fpur vials give us enough for four IVF cycles. They would use the MESA samples first, then move onto the TESE samples. When the time comes, they are looking for the most active, normal-shaped sperm to select for ICSI. Hope that helps!

How are things going? Not bad. Just glad that this is my last month on Clomid. I hate the side effects. I've been having such bad anxiety that I've actually had a few anxiety attacks. This is our last IUI before some big decisions and we keep going back and forth on what to do. We both will say we don't want to do IVF and then I'll see someone with TW a newborn or pregnant belly end TW and then I think how can I not do whatever it takes to get there? Super frustrating.

@WillRunForWine21 Are you going straight from IUI to IVF in one cycle or taking a break? I think what you do is dependent on that. For instance, some places will want to do a hysteroscopy etc.

Injectibles' risk of HOM is pretty frightening. I agree that it's pretty bizarre to think these drugs will help when you're ovulating anyway..."unexplained" is such a frustrating diagnosis because how can you go forward thoughtfully? Hugs friend.

@businesswife Thanks for the educational info and YAY! It's about time you guys could move forward! You have a ton coming up in the next couple weeks.

I also posted this question in the CS/Q thread but for those of you who have done or are doing IVF, are there questions you wished you had asked before you started? I feel pretty good about the questions I need to ask for my specific situation, but I don't know where to start for the general stuff. If I ask him now about timeline, will I get a timeline? Should I plan to take some days off work for the retrieval?

How are things going? Getting better I guess. I kind of just fell off of things after last cycle was cancelled. It was just so frustrating, and now I am worried that it may just continue to happen over and over and we are just never going to get anywhere. On top of all of the unknown in regards to TTC, now my job is in a weird state of limbo since my contract expires on the 31st and there currently is no new contract to replace it. I am being assured that my job is not in danger, but as of August 1st I am banished from the office for an unknown amount of time. They said they should be able to cover me for about 2 weeks, but if it goes beyond that I either use my own leave or go unpaid.

@adirat Our RE went over a general plan with us in March and then we had to wait for the first IVF cohort that was open. At the IVF orientation earlier this month, we got an individualized calendar with some firm dates and other flexible dates. For example, the date I will stop BC and get a baseline ultrasound is fixed. The date of the retrieval is going to be based on bloodwork and ultrasounds, but I have a general timeline of when that will probably take place. I hope that helps!

I guess technically just waiting for AF. My RE wanted me to use OPK's this cycle to see if I am ovulating and if the Metformin has started working. Still no +OPK, and I have kind of given up that it's going to happen. So just waiting for good old AF to visit so she can put me on Femara.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)
We were going to so IUI this next cycle, but now I think we will just try medicated. I have too much going on with work to take any time off to go to the RE this next month, so I guess we will try the Femara and TI and see what happens.

How are things going?

Honestly I don't really know. I feel pretty numb about everything right now. I think it's because we have so much going on right now, and if we end of moving that will increase by 100, and I am just second guessing everything.

If we do move, it wouldn't be until next Spring. We'd need to put our house on the market, I'd need to find a new job..what if I were KU (yay!!) but nobody would hire me? (Boo!)
We would need to find a new place to live, H would need to transfer his job, and mainly we just want to start a family so, so, SO badly. Sorry for the Dear diary post. It's all just a lot right now.

@adirat my goal would be not to skip a cycle. Of course if there is a medical reason where that is ill advised I'd be flexible. I have mentioned it to the RE and at the moment she is kid of just yessing me to death which I kind of understand as it is cart before horse. I just want to put myself in the best position to move as quickly as possible.

@kiwi2628 Sorry about the BFN. How many medicated cycles/IUIs are you planning on doing? I know that I have missed out on a lot because we have been TTC. Weigh the pro’s and con’s and make the best decision for you and DH. So many hugs.

@juneroseruby Maybe speak to your RE about the gym and how much trying something new will impact the next step. I would be more likely to feel like I wouldn’t want to go because of how the meds would make me feel.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) I need to go in tomorrow for some follow up bloodwork to see if the meds for the prolactin are working, and to see if we need to change up the dose.

How are things going? Meh. I feel like the cabergoline is finally starting to do "something." The side effects that I read about are starting to kick in, which blows. My dr wanted to start metformin soon and I told him that I needed to do some research on it and get back to him. I got a promotion last week and haven't had time to really sit down with H and talk about it, so we need to do that this week.

Any questions? For others that have been on Metformin, what did you think?

GTKY: What languages do you speak? Any that you wish you spoke? I only speak English. I took 4 years of Spanish, and I can help my DSS with her homework, but just barely!!

@adirat I got my schedule when I went to the nursing consult appointment. I got a whole mapped out calendar. I took off the day of the ER and the day after. I definitely needed that time to recover. I guess I could have worked from home the next day but I also slept a lot which was helpful to my recovery. You will not want to do a lot of moving around based on my experience. It may depend on how many eggs you have though. More eggs is more time in the ER, more pokes etc.

Thank you for the support ladies. I've never had such strong, palpable side effects from any medication before. The months we just did Letrozole I had zero side effects. But these injectibles...they are really throwing me off.

@mispanda looks like the chances of rhabdo is really really rare, but luckily, the gym is pretty laid back. It defintely isn't true cross fit, just cross fit inspired. I am usually pretty good about knowing my body too so I decrease weight/reps if I can't do it in good form.

@BusinessWife I just I just wanted to know the numbers exactly since Mh had 47 total, and I was curious what that would "buy us". Obviously our RE will have more input Wednesday but I just thought it would be nice to have something to compare to.

@Redpuma119 If we do IVF, I definitely won't be going to the gym. I would end up taking this month off anyways. CD1 is right around the corner so I'd be out anyways. The gym membership is month to month, so I could easily just not pick it up next month.

@adirat don't be too impressed, it's laid back but a serious kick in the ass at the same time

@WillRunForWine21 I have used my sign at work. A lot more when I was in the school I was at and when I did outpatient. When I worked in Rochester, NY I used it so much more because there is a huge deaf population. I use it occasionally at work now though. Once I had to "interpret" and IEP meeting and I am sure I was terrible but I at least got the point across. It was probably most definitely illegal for me to do that.

@JuneRoseRuby yeah, the best we have are rough numbers. We really won't know what we're dealing with till they do the thaw and fertilization attempt. :/ but I would think that would be sufficient for one IVF cycle! especially since it's fresh and wouldn't need to be frozen/ thawed, right?

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) hit a snag with H being able to go EOD so I'm now back to using opks & temping.

How are things going? *TW* I was really hoping my body would be getting back to pre-ectopic O days (I would O cd 22-25 with one 28. Post ectopic was cd 40 & 34). But unless I get a +OPK in the next 3 days, it's not. And so far this month, I haven't had that weird pain the I was having on my side that I got after my ectopic that I thought was related to O. But I have been having what feels like very slight AF cramps. *end TW* so who knows wtf is going on. Just ready for my RE appt

GTKY: What languages do you speak? Any that you wish you spoke? English. I loved in Puerto Rico from age 5-8 then took Spanish from junior high through college so I was pretty fluent. I lost most of it though and can understand more than I can speak. I'd love to learn ASL!

@BusinessWife we would have to freeze because of PGD testing, but we could potentially not have to freeze his sperm before ICSI, the risk of doing a fresh of course is that his numbers could change and we end up with nothing or back to three crappy not usable sperm and then I have eggs retrieved for nothing. I'll have a lot of questions for the RE tomorrow!

@TravelingCouple I'm glad to hear you got 2 follies. Hopefully this cycle is it for you; if not, a small break can do wonders. I think it's the progesterone supplements that affect my mood so much. It's pretty terrible.

@beachbunnyxo123 I'm not sure why they transition people to injectables when the pills are working, though I'm sure there is a reason. When I did a straight injectable cycle, I think I stimmed for 11ish days, but that was a long time compared to most people. When I did 5 days letrozole and then injectables, I stimmed for anywhere between 4-7 days. When I was on injectables I usually did about 3 days of stims and then started going in every other day after that.

@shortstack930 Deciding what to do after 5 failed medicated cycles was really hard for me. Taking a break from treatment definitely helped me gain some clarity and decide what to do. Maybe it will for you as well? I hope this is the cycle for you and you don't need to make that decision.

@Hollyyyyy Sorry you are going through so much right now. Life transitions are difficult with IF. It's like you want everything to stay the same for a minute so you can get KU quick and then put the rest of life back in motion.

How are things going? I need to get things sorted out with the RE's office and insurance. Last time I talked with insurance, the number of medicated cycles they had recorded for me (2) was different than the number I know I've done (5). I need to get them on the same page as the RE office so that we can move forward with IVF after 1 more IUI since insurance requires 6 medicated cycles before IVF.
