Baby Names Part 2!

Now that so many people know the baby's gender (we are team green) and further along I'd love to hear names that people have settled on/still toying with.

We have narrowed it down to a small list. Comments are welcome!

If LO is a girl:

  • We are having our second girl first daughter is Maggie Lee. We think this one will be named Nora Louise I liked Nora Lynn or Nora Marie but husband wants to use his grandma's middle name who means a ton to him and it doesn't sound bad NLR.
  • @ShortStuff5 Nora Louise sounds cute!

  • We are naming our daughter Lilly Anne.

Same as ChattyKitty, we cannot come close to much of anything on a boy's name where with a girl it was like we were drowning in a sea of great choices.

I decided early on I wanted him to be Jesse, but DH nixed it. It's still my favorite and I can't come up with anything I like even close to as much. The only one we both haven't nixed is Anthony, which is his father's middle name (which he goes by instead of his first name) but I don't want him to be Tony, and also, I don't love it, I just like it. Potentially Christian also falls into this category, although I think I prefer Anthony. Last night DH suggested Erroll, which I can't decide if I like or I hate. The others he suggested I definitely hated.

Suggestions welcome. Our last name begins with Bri and is English/Germanic.

  • I'm having issues, but mainly because any time I suggest something DH says "Let me think about it" and then NEVER gets back to me. No, I don't want to let you think about it, give me something to work with! The only name he suggested was Jessica and I really don't care for that. I'm a "J" name and I honestly don't like "J" names for girls. I really want to use Elizabeth as either the first or middle name, but that's all I've got. I rather like Samantha too, but Samantha Elizabeth seems kind of clunky together. I wish I were naming a dog.

  • I like Charlie Alexander  (Alexander is a family name) but my partner is not keen because he doesn't think Charlie will work once the kid is over 15. I disagree. Because I like Charlie so much I'm struggling to consider other options. We have Jack Thomas already.

    We are having a girl.

Deciding between Zoey (DH's pick) and Riley (my pick).
  • Same as others, I'm struggling to come up with boys names we agree on. I like Charlie and thomas but hubby doesn't... and I hate the names he likes... our son's name is Dominic and I can't think of any other names I like as much as that one. If it were a girl we would have already decided!
  • Our list is mostly unchanged . And not really narrowed down at least for me . I've been trying to Guage where hubby is on it but don't seem to get much confirmed

@Jsmith8484 - Others have sort of mentioned this but would you be happy naming him Charles "officially" but calling him Charlie?

@ChattyKitty17 & @Abby7 I'm having a girl but here are some boy names I love:
    -Rowan
    -Grayson
    -Camden
    -Grant
    -Grady
    -Luke
    -Logan
    -Gavin
    -Mason
    -Noah
    -Colton
  • We have discussed names twice for a total of 5-10 minutes each time. I've compiled a list over the last year of names I love. DD has already started telling everyone her brother's name is Knox, which is a name on our list but seriously we haven't decided. I think we keep putting off the discussion because we know we tend to disagree on names. We both like Knox but have other favorites as well. I LOVE the name Phoenix but DH doesn't even want to consider it. I understand though because I feel the same about names he has proposed. DDs name is Hayley but we aren't really considering names with how they sound with hers.
  • Our son will be Robert William, named after my fiance's father. I don't hate it but my father (who sucks) is also named Robert and it's keeping me from loving it. I also don't know what the short version will be because his father goes by Bob and mine goes by Rob. I prefer Robbie over Bobby but than I would feel like he was named for my father.

Knottie, Luke is one we've always liked, but at DD's school there are Lucas, Luca (boy), and Gianluca - and the school only has 45 kids. So I'm afraid it's too common around here. It's still out there as a possibility though.

Could he be Will instead? Sometimes when a boy is named after a father or grandfather he goes by the middle name.

  • We had our girl name all picked out but of course, we are having a boy and haven't been able to agree on anything. Our last name is difficult to pair with also. right now the front runner is Grant Patrick if only because my H won't entertain any other suggestions I offer. Our daughter is Abigail.

My husband and I have always said if we have a boy we would name it after his father Curtis .... I really like Curtis James as a baby boy name however we are having a girl. In girls names we tend to like girl names that end in “a” for some reason, our top 3 girls names are Aria, Kara and Larissa.

  • Our 3rd boy will be Porter.

We are unsettled yet on either Jon Porter, Porter Allen, or Porter Samuel.

Porter is a family name but not of super close importance to us. But we love it! Jon, Allen, and Samuel are all family names so we are having difficulty choosing!

    We already have:
    Carys Jo
    Sawyer Burt and
    James Fowler

Adding another "er" name to our boys was not really my first choice, but Porter stuck from the moment we saw it!

  • @Abby7 I love Jesse and it's not used anymore. Could you do Anthony with the nn Andy instead? What if you did a variant of Anthony like Antonio then you could nn him Nio?

    @dragonfly87-2 I love Riley!!

@foxaírt I love Cian and Elowen! We also did not decide names for our girls until we saw them. We had 2 names picked out and each child was named by day 2!

@amber0529 I also think having your son hobby William would be a great idea. And a nn of Will is cute.

    @mymulligan I love Grant Patrick!

    @kdw89 Aria is beautiful!

@cottingham3 Porter is super cute!! I would definitely keep that as a first name!

Feel free to take it or lump it, but I think you're better off with Porter as the middle name. It is less of a first name and sounds more like a last name (my MN is a last name so I like that construct). And, you don't want two of your boys' names practically rhyming. Also, most people probably think of a luggage handler when they think of a porter, so it might not be the mental image you're going for.

  • @Abby7 Thanks for the advice...Porter will be his "call name" no matter if I put it in the FN or MN position. And, all three of my son's names will rhyme as #3 goes by his middle name. I have also thought long and hard about all that you have mentioned and I appreciate your candor, but #4 will be Porter...its just a matter of what we decide for his "other" name. :)

Completely and totally stuck on boy names... at this point I'm betting baby will be unnamed when he's born. Lol
  • The night before our A/S we settled on our boy name, Lincoln John, then the next day we found out we are having a girl. We are struggling to agree on a name. I'm hoping to read and get some inspiration.
  • After tossing out a few possibilities we completely changed direction after we asked my Dad for Italian family's names and he mentioned an Uncle Dominic. I did not know the man at all but we both love the name. We wanted to also use "Carlo" after my Dad, Carl. However, our last name starts with a K so if we did Dominic Carlo his initials would be DCK....I know it's missing the vowel, but I don't think I want to saddle the kid with those initials. We may give him my Dad's Dad's name as the middle instead but his name was Salvatore...so not sure. My personal preference is to go with Dominic Sal but my husband is not keen on using nicknames. All I know is he will be born and he will be given a name. :-P

  • Using the middle name is an option, however, being a former bank teller I remember how frustrating it was when people went by their middle names. We'll see what happens.

@KT&John  You could just spell Carl with a K and that would solve the initial problem! Before I knew baby was a boy I loved the girl name Leah Sharon but her initials would've been LSD.

Also... can I just say I really like the name Charlie for a girl. Charlotte could be an official name with a nickname of Charlie.
Yes! I want to name our girl Charlie but hubby doesn't really like it. Ugh ... we do have a potential name (we are not sharing at this time) but are still exploring others.

  • We're going with Zoey but have yet to agree on a middle name
  • We had two boy and two girl names picked out, both in honor of DH's parents, who were Allen and Toby. Problem is we like the boy variations better and are not completely sure about the girl names (we're having girls). Maybe we just need to get used to them.

    For boys: Alair and Taavi
    For girls: Alaira and Tova

  • @amber0529 Oh my, LSD...yup...gotta check those initials! Thanks for the suggestion on spelling! We will consider that.

  • We are team green but are struggling with a boy name. We struggled when I was pregnant with our daughter and always joke that if she was a boy she would not have had a name. We have an Alaina Rose and if this is a girl we are thinking Madison (probably different spelling) Lilliana. Still need to think on boys. We never agree on those. lol.
  • @bklynchica I love the girl names!

Thank you, I needed to hear that, especially since we're not sharing the names with anyone IRL.
  • Thanks for all the Charlie support! Totally using your comments to continue my fight for the name.

@bklynchica How about Alaina / Alena and Tabitha? Tabby is a nickname for Tabitha and it means "graceful".
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

  • @Jsmith8484, my FIL is a Charlie, one of many in his family. Charlie and Mary seems to be popular in the family. Charlie on dad's side and Mary on both. He's Grandpa Charlie or he can be a Charles or Chuck.
