Totally agree. The government needs to do more to enable the middle class.
ETA - that being said though, I do think it is problematic when one person in a marriage is unable to support themselves outside of the marriage. I think that could contribute more to people staying in unhappy and unhealthy marriages and a lot of depression. And what happens if the partner who has the job loses it, or gets injured, or dies? I think a couple should have the ability to live on a single income, but both should have the ability to make money if needed.

*shrug* agree to disagree. I just favor tuition being lower, and when the government does less (subsidizing) tuition is more. But that's a WHOLE different conversation.
Riiight. Bc I will be the first to say, generally speaking, the government should subsidize <i>NOTHING</i>! Lol. For example, in regards to tuition, the only reason they CAN charge that much is bc the government is handing out the loans to cover it! Lol
Riiight. Bc I will be the first to say, generally speaking, the government should subsidize NOTHING! Lol. For example, in regards to tuition, the only reason they CAN charge that much is bc the government is handing out the loans to cover it! Lol
I mean, actually a lot of private businesses are in charge of the loans. But the high cost of tuition is definitely a many headed monster. And I very much don't want to get in a huge fight about this. I was simply offering my personal experience and viewpoint on an existing discussion.
<div class=" Quote"><span>the high cost of tuition is definitely a many headed monster</span></div><span>This is totally true, and we're definitely not going to solve it today. ;)
I don't think feminism is bad (like, obviously), I do think the culture of busy sucks, men and women are both screwed and overworked, I do wish the government subsidized tuition, and as someone who is 34 and could have started trying not 10 years earlier, but at least 2 or 3 years earlier (when I was 29 or 30) and completely hates my career which took way too much school to have, I wish I personally had had better info earlier because it would have impacted my decision for sure. That said, if it weren't for making that shitty career choice I wouldn't currently be living where I now am and I love it here and MH's career is also better here than where we were before, so you never know. But I absolutely feel misled. Just me though! We're all different, blah blah blah. Agree to disagree in part and agree in part with you both, @antoto and @BusinessWife!
Well folks, I want to punch my RE because guess what? I do have PCOS (Type B ). I also have a shitload of food sensitivities. I'm going to go on a week long food binge and then quit--are you ready for this? All wheat. All dairy (goat included). EGGS. Sugar. Yeast. Sunflower seeds. Bananas. And mushrooms (like what?)
@antoto LOL!!!! I saw that and was like WTF TB--you're making me look waaaaay too happy about PCOS!!!
Thank you, I appreciate that. And I'd love some recipe ideas (that one was on purpose). Right now I want to cry over (my last) pizza and burrito and ugh all the foods!!
@kiki75 my RE favors cabergoline- so next week when we hear back, that'll most likely be the one. Thank you for the heads up about constipation. I already struggle with that, so it's good to know!!
@vflux33 ugh about your RE being wrong! And worse about all your food sensitivities. I mean, I'm glad you found out do it helps you but I'm such a foodie so that my nightmare!
@purplg8r Yeah I'm freaking out. I don't know what I'm going to eat, but I'm so glad right now to at least not be a vegetarian. Some of the food restrictions are for PCOS (I'm NIR but she said it would still help and that if I'm not careful I could become IR in the future). I saw the mushrooms on the list and I was like "please let it just be mushrooms!!) NOPE.
But the good news is if I actually make all these changes in addition to improving IF it should also help my skin and (TMI) fix my constipation issue so, I mean, better to know. I *might* be able to reintroduce goat cheese at some point.
@vflux33 Goat cheese is my jam. That sucks. Would you mind sharing more of that list? My RE suggested lower GI carbs- but didn't give me any specifics.
@Redpuma119 So my naturopath said quitting dairy, cutting carbs, and eliminating sugar would be good even though I'm NIR (I have a family history of type 2 diabetes so I'm higher risk for becoming IR eventually). The food sensitivities may not be impacting the PCOS directly, but are almost definitely causing inflammation (which isn't good for PCOS, right? I'm still learning) and constipation (which sucks generally). For me there was a lot of overlap on the food sensitivities and the PCOS suggestions: - dairy --all dairy including small amounts of butter--I'm restricting both for PCOS and for the sensitivity (but I scored lower on goat cheese as a sensitivity which is why I might slowly bring it back in, in time), - wheat I'm restricting both for PCOS and for the sensitivity (but not sensitive to gluten so I'm allowed to have 100% rye bread sometimes and other things that have gluten but not wheat so long as I'm watching the carb intake), - cane sugar I'm restricting both for PCOS and for the sensitivity (honey, coconut sugar and maple are OK for the food sensitivity but not great for PCOS so I was told to quit those for a month and maybe slowly add back in with moderation), - the eggs (chicken and duck) have nothing to do with PCOS--just a food sensitivity (and same with the yeast, sunflower seeds, bananas, and mushrooms).
I asked about potatoes and she said those were fine but try not to have them often because it's still carby (I asked is once or twice a week ok and she said yes). So basically I'll be going paleo @LoveInDC style except with no eggs (which is what I was planning to use to deal with the paleo and make coconut bread products so now that's going to be an issue).
Because of this I imagine my meat intake is probably going to increase substantially since pretty much all my vegetarian meals involved wheat and/or dairy. Sorry, animals
@vflux33 Ok it totally sucks BUT at least you now have a better idea of what you need to be doing and what kinds of things could possibly help with your IF. What kinds of tests did you have done to find out about your PCOS and food sensitivities? I've struggled with *TMI chronic constipation most of my life and I'm wondering if maybe I need to look into that as well. What made them finally figure out it was PCOS? I mean even if you didn't have polycystic ovaries on US you could still have (and apparently do) fit into a PCOS diagnosis under the Rotterdam criteria. Shouldn't they have been checking your androgen levels?
@vflux33 Ugh! Sorry to hear you have PCOS. I'm glad you were able to get answers from your naturopath. Enjoy your week long food binge. On the bright side, even though it sucks to cut out all those foods at first, when I cut them out I felt so much better physically and mentally and in my jeans. Think ahead to that!
@madspunk I AM looking forward to losing a few pounds. I'm assuming with this diet it will pretty much fall off and my old jeans will fit in not too long! Thanks for reminding me of that!
@beanship So to catch you up, my RE never tested my androgen levels months ago (I know....I asked her and she pretty much said no and I was pissed) and I finally got those tested through a naturopath and got the results today. Way later than I should have. I live in a rural area and didn't want to get a second opinion from another RE because of distance. I get more than 8 periods a year (I think I average 9 or 10), and I do not have the string of pearls. So I am the less typical type of PCOS (and also NIR), and the naturopath said my PCOS is mild (thankfully), but it is definitely impacting my fertility. My RE is I guess kind of old school in her definition of PCOS and said since I get more than 8 AF/year and don't have the string of pearls that it was 100% impossible I had it. But my androgen levels tell another story. My cycles range from 29-56 days, which the RE said was "normal" (yeah, not months and months without AF, but 56 days is still pretty long and I have other symptoms like skin issues so have been suspicious of this for awhile.).
I'm really angry for you. My RE discussed the Rotterdam criteria with me on literally my first visit. I just can't even....I'm so glad you've found a health practitioner who listened to you.
Thanks @beanship. Yeah, I'm pissed. The RE actually was kind of pissed at me for asking for the androgen test. She sucks. I am praying this doesn't reflect on her ability to do the IUIs, IVF, monitoring, etc. If weren't for this AWESOME group of ladies here I wouldn't even know about the Rotterdam criteria and probably never would have thought to call the naturopath. So I am late to the game and already mid treatment cycle, but better late than never. And if I can lose a bit of weight, fix my skin, and the tummy issue at the same time as increasing chances of getting KU, I can't call that anything less than a win.
@vflux33 Definitely better late than never! I'm not on a special diet, just a regular old losing weight diet, but it feels great to be back in my old size (I've got like 4 sizes in my closet...) I'll keep my FX for you that your RE knows her stuff even though she's not great at listening.
@vflux33 so sorry for the news but I hope this helps in terms of moving forward. I can totally relate to the food sensitivities I actually have eosinophilic esophagitis which means I have white blood cells in my esophagus (you're not supposed to have them there) because my body was fighting off allergens (food I was eating that I was allergic to and not aware of) and it was making my esophagus stiff and causing severe chest pain to the point where I was seeing a cardiologist. Wound up being the EOE which I found out after my GI ordered an endoscopy. Long story short I can't have dairy, gluten, eggs, wheat, nuts, fish, soy, apples or carrots. I walked out like okay doc so eating cardboard it is. Definitely tough and bland as f but I've started to incorporate some more foods. When I eat what I'm not supposed to (like last night after AF) I get that pain in the center of my chest where my esophagus is. Anyhow it's a tough pill to swallow but you learn ways to adjust. Enjoy your binge week! I'm here for support if there's anything I can help with let me know!
@antoto I'm totally open to recipes!!! And @adirat my fellow soy non eater, do you have any recommendations for prenatal vitamins that don't use soy? The only ones I've found have apples and carrots in them which I can't have either so I'm still on the hunt..
@beachbunnyxo123 Wow your list sounds pretty bad too! I've never heard of EOE. Have you been that restricted for long? How often do you "cheat" and when you do, how long to you feel negative effects from it? I'm worried of having 1 bad day and ruining everything. Is YH on your diet when you guys eat at home together?
Yeah I am stressing now and definitely want to go eat all the things. I am writing down a list of all the meals I need to have a goodbye meeting with this week. I do all the cooking so MH is going to have to eat what I eat, so that sucks for him She also told me not to have wine. Or that if I must just have 1 glass. So 1 glass it is.
@beachbunnyxo123 I have some allergen-friendly PNVs my mom got me (no soy, gluten, dairy). Unfortunately they have carrots as their source for vitamin A They are Innate Response Formulas Baby & Me Multivitamin Complete Prenatal Support.
My OB gave me a box of samples that might work though? They are soy-free and gluten-free. The box doesn't list any of the other ingredients you named as a problem, though you may want to double check online. They are DuetDHA Balanced Prescription Prenatal Vitamins.
@vflux33 yeah if I stray i definitely feel it but sometimes a cheat meal is worth it. DH is good about it he knows all my allergies and checks the labels at the grocery store for me. My nutritionist definitely doesn't want me cheating though because then it messes up when we're reintroducing foods. You adjust though.
Damn @vflux33 I'm sorry. Good news is you know what to work on and it should make a difference! And what gal doesn't want to drop a few lbs too?? Binge this weekend for sure and just meal plan! I feel like most stuff like that is so do-able as long as you have a game plan. I mean, you obviously can't go to work anymore and just think eh, I'll pick up lunch somewhere. I do Sundays as my food shopping and meal prep day. Maybe a certain day for that stuff would help? I actually bought a meal planning book from Amazon so I can write out every meal and a shopping list for the week. Sorry, lady. Enjoy your last meals...
Thanks @50Wife! I am not terrible at meal planning so I'm not worried about that part. It's just the restrictiveness by itself that feels kinda intense, but if it helps, that's motivation in and of itself. I just wish I could have 1 cheat day a week, but that would probably be too much cheating to make it worth it.
@vflux33 I would actually suggest that you go on the Auto Immune Protocol diet for 3 months or so and then wean into a more paleo style diet. AIP is pretty extreme but when you think about the possible benefit it makes it worth it.
@purplg8r I always say you should find out how to ask more questions. Other than that, just come prepared to answer all of their questions so they can get the best picture of what's up. I've been glad to have a doctor who not only was female but has done fertility treatments herself.
RE: annuals/paps You should probably still go for an annual even without a pap. Maybe a little different if you're also going to a regular doctor to get annuals but they do the breast exam and all the rest. I would be a bit more lenient on the pap if they also did HPV testing at the same time as your last one. Without that, I'd say get one for sure.
@JuneRoseRuby Hooray!!! That's amazing news!! But I don't understand how the doctor wasn't jazzed about 47 sperm to freeze to ICS
@TravelingCouple So happy the inspection went so well! GL with closing and packing!
@beachbunnyxo123 I'm so sorry. I hope you get some answers and a plan next week. Wait. WTF was that about not checking the sample??? The nurse who did my last one came in, checked it with H and me: vial, my bracelet, and report. She then quipped that she always tells people it's the most important thing she does in a day. Beyond doing it for the sake of the right thing, that's a huge liability. RE needs to fire her. I'd slip some comments in on Monday. "Yeah, I was worried about it being the right sperm because she never checked it." Stabby lol. I've never signed a paternity consent.
@lund I would vote later. I don't think hormones have quite regulated again by CD1.
@RVAmom315 Sorry to hear those results. Hopefully the urologist has some solutions.
@Aurora1973 That makes me think of Orphan Black with her tank of embryos.
@vflux33@lund And mine says full flow after 8pm = next day is CD1.
@kiwi2628 I'm sorry for the BFN. It's even harder in medicated cycles where you've really built your hopes up and feel like you worked so hard for it. You'll make it through this. I promise.
@mamasaurus121415 You could just ask for it and "blame" it on yourself. Say you don't want a Jon & Kate + 8 situation and ultrasounds would ease your mind. (Really, the six are Clomid babies.)
@dragonette505 You look fabulous. Not that it matters. Your friends love you for who you are, not what you look like. Have so much fun!!
@Hollyyyy Suck it back out after HSG? No thanks!! Ugh.
I have had my struggles with tearing myself down for waiting. Finally I came to the conclusion that I'm not sorry at all that we waited until we were ready. I just wish we had been ready younger.
One of the reasons we waited was financial, we knew H would be changing to a new company at one point and that that would come with a 30% pay cut for the first year. We wanted to get through that before adding the cost of child care in our area (the infant care by my work is $215/week). It just took forever for that change to happen because it has taken the airline industry SO long to recover from 9/11.
Plus, I live 13 hours from my family and his isn't about to help me with childcare or much of anything. I love them, but that kind of help isn't their thing. At least 3-4 days a week, it's going to be just me and the kids. I really needed to be ready for those days of insanity (when the dog is sick and the kid has colic and something is wrong with the plumbing) when I won't have anyone coming home to help me out for days.
There were other factors but I'd much rather have waited and be where we are than to have had them when we weren't ready out of fear of IF.
But YES on the insurance. I lucked into working for a company that is based in a state clear across the country that is a state that mandates IF coverage. I feel so guilty for being so lucky. I think sometimes about adding the stress of finance and what that would add to the cycle. It's bad enough to get a BFN and think of what you spent on OPKs and Preseed and pineapple and pomegranate juice and whatever else plus your treat yo self of choice. But to add a big ol' price tag to what feels like another failure, as well as looking at a looming giant price tag? To add that stress on top of the stress people already have is terrible.
@Redpuma119 Glad it can help. I didn't notice until days into it (I'm not a daily girl, never have been).
@vflux33 Ugh, even eggs? Try not to look at it as your last X ever. Just for now. I've also found it helps me to focus on what I CAN eat instead of thinking about the things I can't. You are going to do great! Luckily the 4th fits within you foodpalooza week.

@kiki75 Yeah, good point. I haven't decided yet how truly strict to be so I probably won't be saying goodbye to pizza forever. And corn tortillas are still on the menu and I have a serious carnitas taco addiction, so at least I don't have to give those up.
@kiki75 I think the doc was hoping for hundreds/thousands/millions but never told us what he was aiming for. Since the quantity was so low, he suspects the quality will be as well and freezing wont be an option for us. Scheduling a appt with the RE tomorrow so hopefully they have better news

Popping in to say.... ugh! Sux! Pcos I can't help with, but I too have a ton of food sensitivities but also love delicious food. In fact I'm still in a long and arduous reintoduction phase of sorting out additional food sensitivities that were not picked up by docs and allergists. I have celiacs so no wheat/gluten. For a year I did the autoimmune protocol diet (AIP diet) and so I lived without everything on your list and more (except bananas which I could have but I'm not a fan of). My dietician and food coach actually said I should do an aip food blog because I made sure to have delicious gorgeous food no matter what! You can do it!
@dragonette505 Thank you! I went gluten free for a few months earlier this year so I'm not at as bad of a starting place as I could be. It is intimidating, but already I've made a list of all the stuff I already cook that fits the new diet and I filled a whole page! So all is not lost. The AIP diet looks terrifying. I'm probably going to just start with what the naturopath recommended and tweak from there and only do AIP if I'm still having issues after a few months. I'd def read your blog if you made one on this!
