Re: Announcements

  • @abcola We started telling family at 7 weeks and told our first close friend over the weekend at 10 weeks. We have an appointment on Friday (10+6) and plans to tell more close friends Saturday and two other close friends the following weekend.

Everyone we've told up until now, I would feel comfortable telling if we had a loss. The friends we're telling Saturday are DH's friends so I'm not quite as comfortable, but I think he would be. I feel like there's not necessarily a right or wrong answer. If you want to be more cautious, then you could wait.

  • @abcola I just had my 10 week appt and am planning to announce at 12 weeks just to immediate family. No fb or anything like that for a while. I don't get an ultrasound until 20 weeks so I didn't think I could hold out that long. My next appt is 14 weeks just as a wellness check, and by then I'll have a bump so 12 weeks seems fine. We haven't done the genetic testing yet, that's the only read I could think of maybe holding off but since yours looks good you should be fine.
  • @abcola Our blood test was all good news and we'll have the NT scan on Wednesday, assuming that is also good news, we will tell our parents this coming weekend.  I'll be 13 weeks.  Since I did have a later loss than that, I do have a bit of nerves, but at this point... (1) the bump is eminent, (2) I have been so sick that i can't honestly discuss my life without divulging that I am pregnant, nor can i do "normal" stuff. (3) we're excited and in particular DH is bursting to tell people and he will be overseas with his parents and cousins for a long weekend the next week, so....  it's as good of a time as any to share the news.
  • My husband and I haven't announced to anyone yet. We are going to tell family on Father's Day (I'll be 14 weeks) with a mug I hand made for my dad and the ultrasound photo in a cute frame.

Funny thing - my brother just announced to all of us that they are ~5 weeks pregnant this morning. I feel a little awkward/bad that we haven't even told my parents yet and my brother did it so early! But I guess we all have different comfort levels with it so I'm sure they will understand!
  • @abcola the statistics for 10 weeks and later and pretty positive. And everyone has said it already but it's all what you're comfortable with. I told my 2 best friends right away. Told family at 10 weeks and friends after that. At 12 weeks told work friends and other friends I'm in contact with less often. I've been pretty happy with that.

@tinkerbellwest that's amazing for your family! The kids will have such cousin fun.

  • On the topic of announcements, any smoke bomb mamas out there??? I've always wanted to do a smoke bomb reveal photo with my dh. Anyone already use one and have tips on which brand to order/not order?

I had a dream last night that I tested out a smoke bomb and posted the pic on fb instead of waiting for the real pics to be done and then I deleted it 30 minutes later but everyone had already seen it lol. The smoke was pink in my dream.

@AMCsquared I ordered an exploding golf ball in both colors but we ended up getting the results before they came in and I couldn't wait... We'll use it to break the news to the in laws or my parents as both grandpas golf

@balletnerd, I'm not gonna lie, I have wondered if you might be the wife of my ex from college (bc she's a ballerina and I had a very very slight reason to think she might be pregnant) but luckily for you, you aren't  :D Cute announcements!
  • @NME44 too funny! And thank you!

We told the in-laws this weekend!
DH's parents are divorced. We saw his dad on Saturday and gave him the framed ultrasound photo on the left and he was super happy and like, "I KNEW IT!!"

We saw DH's mom today and gave her the framed ultrasound photo on the left. Her reaction was really weird! She was crying but not happy or saying congratulations. DH quickly figured out that she hadn't read what we had written. She thought we had given her an ultrasound image from the baby we lost last year (?!) She's in the middle of cancer treatments, so she's easily confused and--we found out today--having trouble with her eyes. I never imagined she would not GET IT right away. Anyway, once she understood she went bonkers with excitement.

I'll tell my mom on the phone tomorrow, she lives far away and we always talk on Mondays.

  • This being our first pregnancy, I bought my husband a shirt that says "Dad" on it. I figured people would notice it eventually. I guess I was wrong. He wore it this Father's Day weekend while we visited his family members. None of them noticed, even when he paraded around the room like a peacock. It was really funny to us, but nobody else was getting it. At one point he even told his sisters "maybe you should check out my shirt" and they were sort of offended that he interrupted the conversation and deliberately ignored him. (This is what happens when you have twin sisters - they are living in their own universe, I swear!) So finally he just said "We're expecting!" when his sisters essentially gave him permission to speak. If there is a "next time" I am going to be the one who handles the announcement, and it is going to be much more straightforward. He is....too subtle. Everyone seemed happy for us except his sister that is mid-30's, single, and sort of having an independent streak. She was a terror all weekend, making the whole family go out of their way to accommodate her. I hope someone sets her straight soon! At least his other sister sort of apologized the next day and talked to me quite a bit about baby stuff. Life is so odd and funny sometimes. I was sort of proud of myself that I didn't overreact and get upset with them outwardly, since inside my hormones and emotions were totally raging. After all the excitement of the evening I went to bed and cried for about an hour before I could finally fall asleep. First big pregnancy cry! Woohoo!
  • muskratbaby   Ugh.  How disappointing.  I'm glad the next day went better.

kyrwyn That's so cute! What a great idea.

  • Clearly I'm bump challenged and put the text in a spoiler, not the pic... sorry
  • @rebeckyjoy  I love the picture! Your pup is a trooper
  • Can you make it like a quote from your DD? "My baby sister is this size?! How will we play?" Or something better
