I wish I had something to share but the room won't be ready until probably October. We have selected paint colors of misty lavender with a lavender cloud accent wall. Crib is gray, dresser will be white, white book/toy shelves.
We rearranged our bedroom so that my side of the bed is now closest to the door (and bathroom) and so that the crib now has room on either side. We don't have any nursery stuff yet, but working on registry. They'll have to share our room for a while, until we can no longer tolerate it and move our bed out to the living room.
Really pleased with how the rearrangement came out!
This is leftover from my daughter. We just need to decide between second crib or toddler bed. And once we find out the gender (if we decide to) I'll need to either dig out all the baby clothes or start stocking the closet with new stuff.
It was always funny to me when people found out we were Team Green with my daughter and they would be like "BUT HOW WILL YOU DECORATE THE NURSERY??" The answer is however I want because gender tells nothing about personality. They can pick their own room decor when they're older. The nursery is for me to enjoy.
The twins won't get their room until they're 6 months. For the first 6 months our kids sleep in bassinets/cribs in our room. Then they move to their own room. Right now their room is my husband's office and he needs it for another few months. So we won't be doing anything nursery related until the twins are here and a few months old. I want to get it all done now but it's just not practical for us right now. Besides, it will just sit empty and unused for the first 6 months so why bother?
That said, we are going with a grey and yellow colour scheme for everything in their room, with teal accents.
My step daughter just moved out of my nursery into her new bedroom. Unfortunately she has not cleaned her old bedroom out fully yet and the toddler is still sleeping in there. My crib arrives next Saturday so I am going to push for her to clean up this week ( it's mostly just garbage that she's left all over the floor but I dint think it's fair for me to have to clean it)
@TeacherMama7 I can't believe it. That is pretty much exactly how I want to do mine! I love the alphabet on the wall and those book shelves are my fave.
Baby is going to share with DD. This weekend we repainted. Just an offwhite. Furniture will be white....cot, changer and dd bed as well as a small 2 x 2 cube toy and book shelves. Blush pink and navy linen and accents if bub as a boy. Pink and apple green if another girl.
Opinions wanted on baby book organization: I love the look of ledges but DH and I have agreed that books are something we will not say no to should LO want one. We are both big readers and have been since we were little, and are assuming our child will be as well (LOL at us assuming things). I'm worried ledges won't be able to hold them all but bookshelves aren't nearly as cute. Thoughts or examples of what you've done before?
@DuchessOfCambridge for the nursery I painted wooden crates that fit her books and then she got too many so I bought a bookshelf for her, she still has too many books to fit and I'm ok with that. We were gifted a queen size mattress when she was 3 so I bought a bedroom set for it. DD is a tall girl and was already growing too big for her toddler bed.
@DuchessOfCambridge We put a small bookshelf in DD2's room that matched everything else. At the shower my mom asked for books in place of cards. So we got a pile of books right from the start. We have since switched to a big 5 shelf bookshelf and incorporated some of DD1's little kid books. The very bottom shelf has toys. The next one is all board books. The one up from that is board books and some toys then there are two shelves of paper books to keep away from her most the time then the top has a nice doll and photos. A bigger bookshelf would definitely grow with your baby more than anything else.
@DuchessOfCambridge We are big readers here too. So many books. We used stacked wooden crates for the play room and the living room, and I have a square bookshelf in her room. We use some of the shelves for books and some have the cute drawers for toys.
@DuchessOfCambridge I'm going to use the space rack bookshelves in my nursery, but I am also buying a cube unit for toys and stuff. I will surely end up designating one or two cubes to books. From there, any other books will go on the lower shelf of my bookshelf in the living room with the other kids books.
@DuchessOfCambridge we have both. We have some books on book shelves and we also have a small 6 cube shelf that holds a ton of books that he can reach whenever. He loooves books and loves to read. Usually he will get out of bed, go to his chair and read a book, and take books back to his bed. He sleeps with his fav books and when he comes out in the morning he brings his lovey and a book he slept with.
Just a a sneak peak since most of the room is not done. For example, we are getting rid of this old dresser. We are doing an adventure / travel theme mixed with some rainbow baby touches. Just got this on Zulily last night.
@DuchessOfCambridge I found the adorable locker at HomeGoods. The globe is actually a lamp another teacher got rid of at school. @JDW0325 Love the water colors! @dragonfly87-2 You may like this on Zulily.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
@DuchessOfCambridge We have so many books! My mom gave me all my child books and she was a teacher so there are lots. I've also bought a ton because I love books. I have a built in shelf in the boys rooms and I like it because it holds books but also decorating items. I also have small ledge shelfs in the nursery to highlight a few books. If you really like books I would do a combo like a couple spice racks or small shelfs to highlight and display but also a bookshelf because practically you'll need it!
My kids use their books WAY more than their toys and I love reading to them so storage is key.
Also I had a small bin I kept beside my chair in the nursery and filled it with board books. That way when they are really little they can dig out the one they want and bring it to you!
This is just one wall. We still need curtains, the dresser should be here in the next week and after we find out the gender next Wednesday I will be putting artwork on the other wall.
@DuchessOfCambridge We did rain gutter shelves in Henry's room. I love them. When he gets older they won't be very practical but for baby books they worked well.
