Re: Weekly Randoms 6/5

  • @DuchessOfCambridge  Maybe your friends were planning on buying you the crib and that's why they were trying to talk you out of buying it?

My son's babysitter when he was an infant spoke another language and I was so excited that he would learn 2 languages but than I moved when he was 13 months old. They were from Bangladesh, I can't remember what the language was called. I wish I could've taken her with me, she was the best!

Definitely not, but that is a nice thought :) Not because they are not sweet like that, but they didn't even know what crib we wanted, they were more just like "that seems really early you need to relax, so and so didn't get a crib until ________" haha. They think I'm doing everything too early, like my baby shower too.

Was it Bengali? I had a friend from Bangladesh growing up!

  • I've had a mass of maternity clothes just laying on the floor of my closet. My friend gave me all mine back plus hers in a big plastic tub and it's become a picked through mess. Today I began the process of moving all my non-maternity stuff to our guest closet and hanging up what I'll be wearing until (let's face it) at least until after the New Year. I got a lot done but spent more time hollering at DS for chasing the dogs with plastic hangars.

I at least got everything that won't fit for awhile moved over. I'm calling progress of any sort a win and quitting for the day lol

Midwife today told me she'd be really surprised if we didn't find out at our anatomy scan that it's actually a girl. Just going by how my pregnancy has progressed, how early it was done, and the reputation of the particular tech we had. I told her I wouldn't be sad lol

So...fingers crossed? I'm not getting my hopes up, but wouldn't that be something?
We know two people who were told girl at the AS and ended up with boys! I'm sure it can go the other way too.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge my DHs old bosses wife was Dutch but moved over with her husband and she also speaks English. She regularly talks to get three children in Dutch (is that what you call it???), and while they can't speak much yet they understand it. All her family speak Dutch and English, bus as they go back to Holland a lot it is really good for the kids to know Dutch.
  • @perfectypo I think Dutch people speak Danish?

I keep trying to use stories like this to convince my husband to go Team Green again! But he has yet to be swayed. I'm secretly hoping baby won't uncross their legs at the A/S  :#
  • @perfectypo @bcashaw They speak Dutch.  People from Denmark speak Danish.

DS1 is 7.  DD is 1.  DS2 is coming in late April.

  •  @DuchessOfCambridge Yes! It was Bengali!
  • @mariposa_767s as I was typing it I was like. This is wrong. This is wrong. This is wrong.
    I hate pregnancy brain
  • @kissthesky32 I pulled out our ultrasound pics again. I think he's pretty solidly a boy. It's pretty clear, which also makes me question where some of these people posting crotch shots get their ultrasounds done because mine aren't even close to that blurry. But, I'm still holding out hope for an anatomy scan shocker.
  • Today a neighbor (who is a good friend, so I'm 0% upset) said, "I totally think you're having a girl.  You're just carrying so different!" I honesty feel like I look exactly the same as the last three times, but I was too worried about what she meant by it to ask!  I didn't want to hear that I'm wider this time or something!

  • @MississippiCatfish I think people say stuff like that just to sound intuitive and have something to say. Because really, I couldn't tell you how any of my friends looked early in pregnancy. I remember the huge 9 month bellies but the beginning is all a blur.
  • @baycamp That's a good point!  You're probably right.  She's one of my best friends now, but we met like a month before I got pregnant with DS3, and we weren't immediate friends, so it seems odd that she would remember.  Thanks;)

  • I thought I was being so good not letting anyone from work know I was pregnant before the decision for the new job gets made... just realized I posted an instagram this weekend that makes me look super pregnant and potential future boss is one of my followers. Damn it! Well, here's to hoping he thinks I just got fat?

@kissthesky32 You'll probably be okay. Most people don't pay attention. I've told people at work and I look pregnant and I'm sure most people think I'm just fat or are afraid to ask.

  • Woke up with a start because I felt a hand brush my face. Realized I was being crazy because DH was turned away from me and it must have just been the duvet rubbing on me but was still freaked out. Thennn noticed my cat was sleeping on top of me and had stretched his leg so his foot WAS stroking my face. So alarming.

  • @MississippiCatfish did you see the family's update? If not I'll try to post it. I'm guessing he's dealing with some severe mental illness issues.

@teachermama7 @bcashaw  Yes, I did.  So thankful that he is alive and safe.  Still a devastating situation for his family, obviously, but I know that they are beyond thankful that he will eventually be home and can receive help.  You should see the things perfect strangers are writing on his Facebook wall :/  I understand the frustration, obviously, but who sees someone that fragile and kicks him when he's down?  Crazy and sad.

Edited to correct a broken link.  I think it's working now?

  • @bcashaw I have a friend like that who looked like a freaking model during labor. So unfair.  :D
  • @DuchessOfCambridge I didn't see your post about raising a bilingual baby but I did read @TeacherMama7's and I agree! My SIL is from Moldova and my nieces speak both English and Romainian. I think it's great to teach your kids your own language especially if you have any family members who still primarily speak it. My SIL's parents live in Moldova still and don't speak any English so for them it's more necessary but every bit as wonderful. I have also heard it's easier for kids to learn 2 than for an adult to learn a new one.

@bcashaw  I have no pictures from right after I gave birth but my hair was so tangled and matted that I had to call my friend to bring detangler spray to the hospital so I could get it brushed out. I definitely didn't bother putting on makeup to give birth.
Same. And my face was super puffy from fluids. Not a good look.
  • I had my mom put my hair in French braid pigtails for labor for that very reason. My hair gets tangled so quickly and the last thing I wanted to worry about was a bun falling out and annoying me. And if I had any makeup on it was leftover from the day before.
  • I normally don't wear makeup anyway so I'm going to keep that going and not worry about it. No idea what I'll do with my hair yet though!

Mine too! And it took DAYS for that puffiness to go away after my first baby.

  • I'm very angry towards DH today. I'm not normally like this, but DS has been going through a sleep regression and it's frustrating beyond belief. It takes an hour to get him down for naps/bed now and I think I'm just irritated that the burden consistently falls on me (except one time last week, out of 2.5 years) and now he is planning on taking him to his softball game tonight since I work and it doesn't even start until 9:00! I've been working so hard on getting his sleep on track again and now he's not even going to be home with him until after 10:30. Cue overtired toddler again tomorrow while I'm home alone with him.

Anuone else have an SO that prioritized their own extracurricular activities above everything else? How do you handle this?
  • @BayCamp it's different because I'm able to... but if DH let's the baby stay up late I bring her to his work the next day when she is at her absolute crankiest and let him deal. I don't know what so many guys don't seem to get it that when you have kids you have to miss out on your stuff sometimes.
  • @BayCamp That would be a hard no from me. There's no way my 2 year old would be happy staying up until 10pm and I would pay for it many times over the next day. If one of DH's activities fell on a night I had to work, he would need to put on his big boy pants and deal with missing his fun. Or find a babysitter so that our kids could go to bed at their usual times.

  • @bcashaw I think that's where my frustration comes in. I work 4 nights a week and 2 of those he's off for. So already DS goes to a sitter for at least 2 evenings a week and gets to bed late when i pick him up. The nights DH has him he plays softball both nights. So 4 times a week he comes home after bedtime. Also, I feel like it's a cop out to drop him off to a sitter on the only 2 nights you actually have to parent.
  • @BayCamp that sucks, I think your feelings are completely vali
  • @BayCamp  I have similar problems with H but I am still struggling with how to show him he needs to reprioritize. I usually just make plans during the weekend and tell him DD is his. Of course she is always a little angel for him and goes to bed early but at least he gets to endure the separation anxiety for a bit.

  • @BayCamp My son would be miserable if he was up until 10pm. Also, real talk, if DH is playing softball where is DS? That's what would get the hard pass for me. I'd ask DH to find a league that fit both of our schedules.
