  • I scheduled DS's appointment to get ear tubes. And he's sleeping in his big boy bed for the first time.   :'(
  • @SouthernMama15 hope the tubes help and hugs to you as you get through it. Good luck with the big boy bed transition too.

  • @bumpybump thank you. DH is trying to save his time for when the baby is born, but he gets 2 weeks for paternity leave. He's not wanting to take off and had the nerve to ask me if I wanted him to ask his mom to go with me. No, she's overly emotional and would drive me crazy. We have to go a ways a way and he thought I might want her to drive. The woman can't find her way around the county and town she's lived in her whole life so thanks, I'll go alone if I have to.
  • Has anyone else been having problems with getting the weekly videos to play? They won't play for me anymore, just show a loading bar at the bottom.

I am so sick of family drama this week. It's exhausting. My sister is being a bridezilla and literally keeps taking things out on me. She had the nerve to tell me that I'm going to be a bad mom because I'm going to be a single mom. I've decided to cut out the toxic relationship and just focus on my LO.
  • @tova24 that is terrible. She sounds very self-centered and that would be a far worse thing to be as a mom, than single!
    TW:

@smallbutmighty77 she has been this way our whole lives. Yesterday I just was so fed up with her judging and criticizing me. I get that I'm not doing things the traditional way, but in the end I'll have a beautiful little boy who I'll love and give him everything I can.

Another random from me...I'm sick of seeing all these restaurants announce that they're opening their patios and doing happy hour drink specials to celebrate. How about you throw some non-alcoholic/food specials on there for the people who can't drink!?
I hear that! I've told DH I'd be happy to sit with him on a patio and drink ginger ale...
We have a really awesome rooftop bar near us and on a recent beautiful weekend we tried to go, but there was a waiting list to get up there. Boo. So we sat on our own balcony for free.

  • @bumpybump I miss happy hour!  In MA, restaurants cant sell booze as part of a happy hour deal, so no half priced beer for anyone.  I do miss drinking a cold beer on our patio though!

I miss drinking vodka lemonades while laying on my pool float in the pool.
  • Interesting @littlebug2010. I'm always surprised at the variations of rules across areas.

Stuck in box. I thought alcohol was the point of happy hour
  • @bumpybump it was a shock when i moved from ME (we love our happy hour) to MA.  Same when I go grocery shopping, they dont sell any booze in the grocery store, you have to go to a liquor store.

Illinois (or maybe just Chicago? not sure) was the same way for ages. A special price had to be a special price all day, not just during certain times.
A couple years ago they rolled back that rule and officially brought back happy hour.
    We were all

...Cause we're cheap. Any opportunity to save a few bucks on booze!

  • @lit@littlebug2010 interesting again. In Indiana (where I grew up), you couldn't buy alcohol on Sundays. It was always interesting when people ran out of alcohol on Super Bowl Sunday (or planned poorly in general prior to a Sunday)

@bumpybump we can't buy alcohol on Sundays here in Texas.
  • Randoms. 1) DH has been trying to get promoted for awhile, long story short. A position just opened up that he would be great for; his current boss' boss loves him and is one of the decision-makers, and the position reports to a VP who also really likes him. However, he just found out that his work-wife is interviewing for the same role. She e-mailed him to ask him for interview tips as she's in a different department. Aca-awkward!
    2) My new long necklace has nearly killed me twice today. I double-looped it and it turned into a choke collar that was hard to untangle/loosen due to the size and weight of the stones. So I unlooped it, and then managed to catch it on the bathroom door handle as I was walking through. Some of the fastenings loosened and it broke before it could slit my neck, thank goodness. (I'll fix it by tightening the fastenings on the stones with pliers when I get home.) Sheesh!!

  • Oklahoma doesn't sell real beer cold. It's only 3.2% alcohol. Gross. You can get normal beer at liquor stores but it'll be room temp.

  • @DeansGirl14 I'm confused. Who's work wife?

    @bumpybump
DH's "work wife." You know the expression? It's basically your best platonic friend at work but the "wife/husband" element is often added in if it's someone of the opposite sex.
So DH and his best friend at work are competing for the same promotion.

  • DH and I were the poor beer planners when we moved to Texas. In our area, they opened up beer sales at noon on Sunday, at the exact moment football started. We eventually got better, but after 5 years we still messed up some weeks. Happy to back back in CA where we can buy all the booze anywhere, anytime.
  • Washington state changed its laws a few years ago to allow the sale of hard liquor in groceries. Let's just say that Target trips are way more exciting when you can add booze to the list.

  • It's a county by county thing in GA. You can buy in my county on Sundays beginning at noon.  Wine and beer are at the grocery store, anything else you have to go to the liquor store.  Not all counties have liquor and some you can only buy by the drink.
  • I feel like I have a bunch of randoms today.

    1. I'm in California and taking the 4 week prior to due date off. I've never done this before and worked right up until I have birth (I have 2 other kids). I CANNOT wait and I really hope this guys stays put so I can enjoy some of it.

    2. Because I'm taking off the 4 weeks prior I only have like 6 full weeks left at my job. So things are starting to get a lot easier AND I start training my replacement in 2 weeks.

    3. I miss drinking so much. It's my thing. I need a scotch immediately.
  • @SouthernMama15 now that you mention it, I remember that from when I lived down there.

Our hospital has a stork dinner that you may order after birth. It comes with sparkling grape juice. I'm packing champagne in my hospital bag. No shame there.

Edit: sparkling grape juice, not wine (major pregnancy brain fail today)

  • @littlebug2010  I remember being so surprised to see alcohol in the grocery store when I moved from MA to NH.

DH and I are in San Francisco on our baby moon. I've been dying for cocktails and wine at dinner, but compensating with food  :D  the weigh in at my next appointment should be fun.

  • My random is that I'm super glad my doctor's office does early 8 week ultrasounds. A woman in my fitness class just had her first ultrasound at 20 weeks and just found out she's having twins. I would not want to find out when I'm that far along already!

@Kathryn0903 my OB does the first ultrasound at 12/13 weeks. It seemed like forever! I actually had an ultrasound at 6 weeks because I had a seizure at work (pregnancy hormones made my meds less effective) and before they took me to CT, my pregnancy test showed positive. They then did an ultrasound to confirm. Crazy how things happen!

@bumpybump I know!! A local brewery (basically walking distance from me) keeps posting about their patio opening AND my favorite seasonal beer that they offer, the blueberry ale, debuts on Thursday. It should still be there in August and if not I might freak.

  • Re Alcohol:in Virginia you can buy beer and wine at the grocery store and liquor at the ABC (liquor store). We also have happy hours everywhere usually from 4-7pm.

@kathryn0903 I would freak out if I found out I was having twins at 20 weeks!!!

    @secicc12 Enjoy your baby moon!!

@BlackNYellow my hospital has a "candlelight" dinner, it's so much better than the regular hospital food but doesn't come with alcohol!! Now I'm jealous!
