Yes Thank you @amanning2011 for the spreadsheet.
AFM-I'm having breakthrough bleeding today  I'm not to concerned because today is my last BCP and I start patches tomorrow with a baseline Monday. But it's kinda odd that this is going on.

  • Dear diary-

Ive been on Lupron for 9 days (started cd21 of my pre-procedure month) and I haven't started my period. I'm just so ready to start estrogen and move this cycle along. Most likely I'll have to wait until the 25th and get bloodwork to make sure I'm suppressed before I start more meds.

Wait to save money to afford procedure.
    Wait to get on schedule.
    Wait for testing.
    Wait to start meds.
    Wait to transfer.
    Wait to test.

I wish i could say that 7+ yrs of infertility had taught me patience. What do you ladies do while waiting? I bake obscene amounts of cakes and pies... which I then feel guilty about eating
  • @Cowboycorgi I'm a major geek so I plan while waiting :) lots of research about baby stuff and all that. Planning and researching helps me relax :)

Oh and reading books, just got done with "The Two Week Wait and Other Crazy Days in the Life..." which I really enjoyed.
  • @amanning2011 thanks for the spreadsheet! I cant seem to add anything to it. If you dont mind, could you add this is my first Fet , dont know date yet. And my retrieval was 4/18/16

  • Thanks to you all for welcoming me, and @amanning2011, thanks for making the spreadsheet! Can you add for mine: first FET, transferring 1, transfer date June 7-9. I am on Estradiol now, add Letrozole Sunday, go for a lining check on Friday the 2nd, and hope to transfer the following week.

Meant to say: the doctor really makes a difference, but in my case it was less about protocol or communication than actual skill/technique with retrieval. My last doctor got 9 and 10 eggs, respectively, my first two IVF cycles. He said some of the follicles were empty, which my current doctor said is b.s. (he said, "if a follicle grows, there's an egg in it"). My current doctor got 22 eggs from my one IVF retrieval with him, and said for whatever reason the previous doctor must not have been comfortable with retrievals. So I think I have my current doc's retrieval ability to thank for the fact that I have something to transfer, finally.

For those that did PGS and have more than one normal embryo, are you choosing the sex? Or just having them put in the "best looking" embryo?

  • @amanning2011 thank you! Still not sure..leaning towards thawing 3 and transferring 2 or 3..
10 more days and my hysteroscopy will be here and i will hopefully know more about my fet!! Come on May 30th!!
  • @Stairbear- We are choosing. I have 4 pgs normal embryos and turns out I have two of each gender. And the distribution of morphology is about the same for both, with each gender having one good, one fair embryos. That was a great news as we wanted to have one of each, if possible. The question is which gender are we going to have first.  The gender that we wanted first also turned out to have an embryo with slightly better morphology than the other gender.

Choosing a gender is an ethical dilemma for some, but we felt that it's weird to let the doctor choose your family too.

  • Stairbear thats an interesting opinion from your RE.  I've been through 4 ER and this was the first time one was empty and its not like I had that many to work with.  How many normies do you have? Its a tough decision for sure, when did a fresh transfer i didn't have a choice but I agree with @cashewchicken if its not that much of a difference then why not choose.

Hi Ladies!  I'm back in the game after what feels like an eternity, and since I'm scheduled for a FET on June 26th, I thought I'd join in on your thread.  You can see what I've been up to in my stats... I got a Lupron Depot injection 3 days ago (my endo was only found in my bowels, not reproductive organs... but my RE is having me do the Lupron shot just in case, to keep any possible/microscopic endo quiet for this cycle in hopes it helps to create a calm environment for implantation)... I have a sonohysterogram and trial transfer coming up on the 30th of this month... and we're going to do an endometrial scratch on June 7th in hopes that also helps with getting the embryo to stick.

After my last FET failed, I'd considered putting in two embryos this next time (we did not do PGS testing)... However, after thinking it over and talking with my RE, it's possible the endo could have been affecting the embryos' chances... So we are going to try one again this time.  If it doesn't work, I will definitely do two next time.  I know I am not in a position to be picky and if I end up having twins as a result of any treatment, I will of course be happy... I'm just not trying for twins.  I know it is risky to the babies and to me.  I haven't had the chance to read all of the posts yet on the thread, but I hope to catch up in the next few days reading about all of you.  I am hoping this is the month for all of us!  :)

  • @Hopeful_mom I don't think my current doctor was saying that empty follicles never happen. I think he was just saying that what happened to me with my former doctor -- I'd grow 20 follicles during the stimulation phase, and then during retrieval he'd only get 10 eggs, claiming that the other 10 follies only contained clear fluid -- does not make sense. Basically, my current doctor said he has never experienced "empty follicle syndrome" -- the making of lots of empty follicles -- in his (fairly long) career. And I think he was right, because when I did IVF with my new/current doctor, he retrieved 22 eggs! He said that my former doctor just must not be as skilled at retrieval, for whatever reason. Of those 22 eggs, I got 8 blastocysts, and three of them tested normal. I was thrilled with that result given my age (40), and I'm guardedly optimistic that we can achieve a pregnancy from one of those three.

But I've been on estradiol for four days now, and the nausea... omg. It's rough. I feel like I would be so happy to be nauseous from pregnancy, but I'm less tolerant of nausea in the run-up to an FET.

Good news is we are leaving tomorrow night for a trip to Europe (Amsterdam and Paris)! I'm glad to have that to keep me occupied in the weeks before the FET, and I'm glad I won't be leaking Crinone all over Europe, haha. I also figure this is my last chance to drink wine and eat unpasteurized cheese before I am (potentially) pregnant... and if we are lucky enough to have a newborn next year, who knows when we'll ever be able to leave the house again, ha.

I'm following along with each of you and rooting for everyone here! Will check in again when I'm back. Au revoir!

  • Stairbear Going to an ER and coming up short is always upsetting glad you switched RE and have had a better outcome!
have an amazing trip! thats very exciting!!  More exciting is creating normal embabies at 40, apparently its not easy!!  Hoping I will get some normies back this cycle!! Being nauseous is never fun, didn't know that was a side effect of estradal, good to know.  Its not cute with pregnancy but yes its worth it for the miracle prize ;) dear lord i was so sick...hopefully your side effects will subside.  have fun!

  • welcome to the new ladies joining June fet, good luck!!

I had a monitoring appointment today and it went well, lining is around 14 but there's fluid in my uterus. The dr has mentioned fluid several times since I started seeing him in October and hasn't been able to identify what it is or why it keeps coming back. I go back Wednesday and he said if it's still there then he'll drain it, that doesn't sound fun at all. Otherwise I go back next wednesday also and then transfer next friday!

  • @cowboycorgi he didn't specifically say anything about impacting implantation but I'm guessing it could affect it since he's going to drain it if it's still there Wednesday. I'm just concerned because it's been on and off for months and he doesn't know why. Everything else has gone well so I'm trusting him but I'm nervous.

Welcome ladies to the June board.
@brooklyngirl18 I hope the fluid doesn't put off your FET or effect the implantation any. I've never heard of that before.

I had my baseline today. Lining was 4.8 Progesterone <0.200ml and Estradiol 74.4ml. I go back on the 1st to recheck my lining and progesterone.

  • Hi everyone, I believe I am just about ready to join this board.  A little background, we had our first two FETs (both single transfers) back to back in January and February, unfortunately both were only fair quality embryos (RE rated one as a B and the other as C+), resulting in two disappointing BFNs.  We underwent another IVF cycle in April which resulted in almost identical results (15R, 12M, 9F), however this time 3 made it to blast.  We decided to transfer two on May 2nd as they weren't PGS tested and we wanted higher odds, and while I was extremely hopeful during the TWW, it again resulted in another BFN cycle.  So here we are for our fourth FET in the last 6 months.

I had my follow-up with RE 2 days after my BFN and she offered me the choice of the ERA test to confirm implantation date or moving forward with our final frozen embryo from this cycle.  I was nervous that this embryo would be lower quality than the last two, but she said this last IVF cycle resulted in 3 "much better" embryos and actually rated them as A-.  She is perplexed as to why the last two did not take, the only thing we are changing this round is that I will take the PIO injections daily instead of the crinone twice a day as this is her personal preference.

I am currently waiting for insurance approval, which I expect to receive in the next couple days and will have baseline by end of week (hopefully).  Typically, I am then started on estradiol patches (3 every other day) and go in 8-10 days later for repeat US/blood work to check lining.  If ready, I then start PIO for five days, putting my FET at or around June 10th.

I am excited to get to know everyone this month and offer support/encouragement as we all go through the next point of this journey.  Hopefully June 2017 will yield the most positive outcomes for all of us!

    Beth

  • @bethann1022 Welcome! Sucks about your previous transfers being so disappointing :( I hope this is your month! What's an ERA test? My RE hasn't mentioned that kind of test. Has your doctor suggested doing an endometrial scratch?

  • I've been lurking while on BCP no have a bunch to catch up on, but to everyone here, positive vibes to you wherever you are in your journey this month (and next!)

@brooklyngirl18 GL on the appt tomorrow and FX that fluid gets taken care of for you so your transfer moves right along!
@bethann1022  welcome and here's to June being it for all of us!

AFM, just heard back from my baseline this morning and levels are good so I got the go ahead to start Estrace tonight (3 tabs) and then start an additional 3 in the morning. Yes, reduced med costs for FET cycles is a happy surprise hahaha (even though that is a LOT of pills)

DH and I are going away camping Thurs-Sun so my next blood draw to check levels will be Mon/Tues.  If E2 looks good, then I will go back for my lining check on the 5th with the earliest potential transfer date of the 10th. GL to everyone with appointments this week!
  • @amanning2011 ERA test is where they prep you for an FET, but on the day of transfer (typically 5 days after starting PIO), they do an endometrial biopsy and submit it to a special diagnostic lab to run tests on your lining on this specific day.  There is actually quite a bit of research around it right now, and at least in my geographic area (MA), quite a few REs are starting to use it or suggest it for those with more than 2 failed transfers.  I found an interesting article from the UK I believe that discussed the statistics of how the transfer window for each women is only a 12 hour period and while the majority of women (I believe it was around 60-70%), have the optimal implantation window 5 days after starting progesterone, there are some who need either 4 days or 6 days (or even longer in some cases).  The lab runs I believe 200+ tests on the lining to test for compatibility.  Since it is still considered experimental, insurance does not cover the actual lab fees.  It is something I am definitely interested in pursuing if this next transfer fails, but keeping fingers crossed it will be successful.  I asked her about the endo scratch, but she did not feel it was necessary for this cycle.

@cmiller73 Good luck with starting the estrace, sounds like we may end of being on a similar schedule for transfer date around the 10th, depending on when I am able to complete my baseline and start the patches.
  • cmiller73 - you aren't kidding about the reduced cost in meds...i spent over $500 for my stim meds (and maxed out my insurance benefit for fertility meds) and after gathering all the pills, patches and injection for the FET cycle, I think I spent $50 max. the difference is quite significant.
  • Welcome to all the new ladies here and good luck to everyone!

Im suppose to get my period tomorrow and then baseline is on Thurs!

  • @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake only $500 for stims? WOW. You are a lucky lady! We are all OOP and I think two ER cycles was roughly $12k in meds. so far I am looking at about$600 for prep I think (at least what I have budgeted since we have no fertility coverage at all in our insurance.... ugh BCBS of TX. yay.)
  • @cmiller73, I'm in the same boat. The OOP med costs are staggering for stims, I'm so happy we only had to pay $500 for FET meds.

I am fortunate to have a clinic that only charges $5000 for IVF, and $2000 for FET. My old clinic quoted me $12,000 for IVF (just procedure no meds or testing) and we had to walk away for a year.
  • @Cowboycorgi @cmiller73 the price differences between clinics is CRAZY!!! for my IVF I paid over $16k OOP not including the meds!! At least the meds were covered by the insurance but the copay was still few hundreds!

  • Our cycle charges (monitoring, blood work and embryology suite fees, etc) were probably 12k. Meds were additional over that.... It is insane how insurance companies control so much, and how different they all are... And if you are going through your work, you really don't know what you are getting into (because NO ONE thinks they have IF issues until they KNOW they have IF issues....) and then you are just stuck.  Unreal. Happy some of you ladies have an easier go financially at trying. Also happy that I am in a place where financially, we can still work at this without worrying about insurance.
  • I am VERY fortunate to have the insurance, no doubt about it. I work for Expedia and they offer excellent coverage (My plan is also BCBS of TX). I am really counting on this FET to work because we are using the last of our lifetime benefit for it. It's just insane how much IVF costs.
  • Welcome to all the new ladies!

I'm paying for IVF OOP too. Surprisingly, my meds were mostly covered for the fist two cycles, but not the third cycle so I had to pay ~$2500 OOP. My clinic charges about $9000/cycle (if you get multi-cycle plan) with FET included. ICSI and PGS are extra.

IVF is so expensive that I probably should review my finances, budget and eliminate wasteful spending but I can't do it. Trying to save $1 here and there feels like a drop in the bucket when thousands of dollars go out to treat infertility.  ugh!

This is probably a dumb question but the FET paranoia is kicking in. Does a regular dental cleaning effect anything at this point?  During the TWW or before the FET? I know there are certain times you can't when you are prego but can I get my teeth cleaned now?

  • @thucks- got mine done yesterday. I had no idea that I can't get it done while pregnant or trying to be. I'd think it will be okay... if you are afraid of X-ray, you haven't transferred so it should be okay and if you are afraid of germs in the bloodstream, unless you have a heart problem it should be okay.

@Prudence9 and @cashewchicken Thanks for the reassurance. I can't get in until the week after transfer so I'm just going to tell them to treat me as if I am Prego. I was really hoping to get in before but I guess that was wishful thinking since I only have 15 days till transfer.

  • @thucks I agree with the other girls, I'm actually going today for a cleaning/xray. I asked the tech last time I was there about pregnancy and she said routine cleaning is fine but no xray while pregnant.
