Hospital Bag

Re: Hospital Bag

  • @auro_c we also live cross country from our families. DD has spent a few nights with each of her grandparents on different occasions (max 2 I think). DH and I were doing things like weddings and we were not more than two hours drive away. I don't think I would "waste" the child free time by just going home - I'd take advantage of hotels or nearby friends for maximum enjoyment.

I couldn't decide if this was best asked here or in the randoms, but since we're talking about hair- does anyone have any specific brand of headband they'd recommend? I can never seem to find one that doesn't either give me a headache or constantly slip off of my head. Anything that's comfy and stays put would be awesome!
I live sweaty bands that are adjustable, I usually find them at craft shows. The actual sweaty bands are good, but I find they stretch after multiple wears! I wear them running and they don't budge!! https://www.sweatybands.com/

    I prefer this style...

I have a Strawberry Revolution band and really like it.  They are a little spendy.  https://www.strawberryrevolution.com/collections/stayputheadbands

@kayemjay2 I'm late to answer, but I've found the best headbands that don't slip off are made for yoga. They are a bit more expensive but a lot of times you'll find the braided looking ones that have rubber grips on them. Check out the yoga isle at target, they are the only ones that stay on my head!

i also found if I make an "X" in the back middle with two bobby pins I normally can't feel them and it will keep almost any band on.

  • Agree with @BeachMommy2B on the yoga headbands. And yoga socks! I've stocked up because we have hardwoods and I don't want any slipping accidents with a newborn.

    Great point @PartiallyDomesticated!

Also, if any one is planning to use a tub for a water birth, I got a tub head rest. I got it for under $20 on Amazon, there were a bunch of options. I plan to be in the tub at least at some point and want it to be a comfortable as possible. We also considered a knee pad for DH, but think we'll just do a towel.

I'm sure this was mentioned, but also snacks. We're bringing our own since the birth center doesn't have food, but my concern is if I'm laboring in the middle of the night I'll be starving.
  • I started flying by myself around age 9. They just did an escort. Id be willing to start this around age 7 for my own children, depending on their maturity.

  • Do you ladies bring your diaper bag or just put your babies clothes in your bag?

I bring the diaper bag, but mostly for extra space when I stash it full of hospital diapers, wipes, and whatever else I can get my hands on!

@Cubslove12: I've put a few items of baby clothes and a swaddle right into my bag, and personally am not taking a diaper bag.
  • @Cubslove12 Everything (mine, DH, and baby stuff) in one rolly bag. The more free hands the better.

  • @Cubslove12  - I will be leaving the diaper bag with my parents since they will have DS while we're at the hospital. I already have the tiny baby clothes packed in my bag - they don't take up much room! @hp_momma did have a good point about having room to loot your hospital room when you leave! My hospital actually provided a small duffel bag just for this! You could always take a small tote bag that would fold up really small so you had an empty bag to fill up. :)

  • Leaving the diaper bag at home. Hospitals usually have big plastic bags they can give you for the extras!

So I made the mistake of already getting the snacks for my hospital bag, and basically just getting foods that sounded good to me. The result of that is that they are almost gone....and my due date is 5/26.
I did a similar thing. MH and I went to Costco last week and I got some snacks for my breastfeeding baskets.... well MH has gone to town on them.  :| I'm like well I guess it could be a full month before this child shows her face so how mad can I be??
  • @kayemjay2 ha! I bought two boxes of each just for that reason. So I have a bag of snacks ready to go and I have the duplicates in the pantry of which some are gone.
  • @kayemjay2 you've just reminded me that I have gummy bears in my hospital bag and they're not staying there today!

  • @BabyMC517 I know! That was one of my to-dos from the weekend and it's tues night now... but I did re-read the thread and the spreadsheet and made a separate list on my phone so that's progress?
  • I have most things piled by a bag.... does that count as a packed hospital bag? Is anyone using a small suitcase? I was going to use a duffle, but I'm thinking I can fit my boppy pillow, camera, snacks and everything in a small suitcase instead of a duffle, camera bag, and bobby...
  • @Cubslove12  I am using a small hard side roller suitcase. I am hoping it will fit absolutely everything. I personally would prefer one large bag/suitcase to multiple smaller ones.

  • my bag has been packed and I've been having a hard time leaving one of my favorite target night gowns packed away, I wear one every night... so comfy!

I've been debating putting my bag in my car just incase... I'm working full time until D day.

  • To all who haven't packed, I'm actually a bit jealous. We packed it weeks (months?) ago, and honestly it's driving me crazy. I have repacked it countless times, and I can't stop adding stuff. It's almost become an obsession. I figure unless you have a precipitous birth, as long as you have all the items you can throw it together during early labor, right?

I've been debating putting my bag in my car just incase... I'm working full time until D day.

Over the weekend, I was going crazy, in a total whirlwind, looking for this new maternity bra, and I mean looking everywhere (& enlisting the hubbs to run and check down by the laundry for a third time), and drove myself nuts about it... come to find out, it's in the hospital tote. Of course. Good reason not to pack too early!

I think in your situation (working right up to contractions; commuting; and in general being more nearby your car than your home), putting it in your car is a good idea. The last thing you'd want is to be out and about, and have to drive all the way home for just 1 bag (that could've easily been in your car).
  • Makes me feel so much better that a lot of you haven't packed your bag yet either! Everyday I tell myself I really need to at least start getting stuff together but I don't! Maybe tomorrow....
