Sorry I'm late this morning ladies. It's been quite the night and morning in our house. So let's hear it. What's got you bitching this morning?

  • @DPandMB poor girl! Could it be a food allergy? DS throws up every time he eats bananas. It took me about two or three times to connect the dots. I really hope she feels better soon!! Hugs mama.

We had wondered that, but its so inconsistent. Like she waked up in the middle of nap time, or the middle of the night and just throws up. We were thinking milk potentially and mentioned that to the doctor today, and he said he doesn't think it sounds like that. He was thinking maybe just a virus and waiting it out. The good thing is she isn't acting sick at all, but toddler vomit really is the worst.

  • @DPandMB That's how DS was too, it would happen about six or so hours after eating the bananas. If he was asleep, he'd wake up and vomit. It was awful. Though his tended to be extreme episodes of like ten barfs in an hour or less. It was hell. I really hope it's just a virus and passes soon!

@wyomama0427 maybe I'll start paying better attention to her food. She is going days in-between vomiting episodes, but the diarrhea hasn't stopped at all. Did your DS have diarrhea too? Was he ok with bananas previously, or always been bad. DD hasn't had any new food.

  • I took DD to see H at his office for lunch today. For the first time ever, I didn't get stuck in traffic, but I did sideswipe a freaking truck that was double parked and scratched the crap out of the side of my car- literally right in front of his office. I *HATE* driving in Manhattan, but he loves parading DD around his office- he is so proud of her and it is adorable, so I take her in every now and then to see him.

So now I have a broken mirror and a deep scratch down the entire side of my car. Luckily, nobody was hurt, but I am sure it is going to be $$ to fix and I don't feel like dealing with it.

DS' first food was bananas mushed at home. Didn't throw up. The next time he had bananas mushed at home he threw up. The next two times he had anything with banana it was a store bought baby food, and he still threw up. There were days and sometimes a week or two between episodes. They got progressively worse and he vomited more each time. We had been chatting with DH's EMT/paramedic buddies and one of the older guys was talking about how sometimes food allergies can do that, they get worse every time the food is eaten. Also reactions can be different when the food is prepared at home vs. store bought/processed. Your DD's vomiting doesn't sound like what we had going on with the banana allergy but it might not hurt to keep a food journal. Can you remember what you guys have eaten since the vomiting started?
  • DPandMBDPandMB member
OH heck no. Sadly @wyomama0427 I have no clue what we have eaten in the past week. DH and I argued about what day was the first day she threw up. I will probably start a food journal for her though. She hasn't had any new food, but I know allergies can develop overtime?

  • @DPandMB oh don't worry I can't remember what we ate yesterday so I know that was kind of a long shot lol. Hopefully you can figure out what's causing her stomach upset!
  • @DPandMB and @wyomama0427 My DH's ex girlfriend is allergic to red dye #40. And it turns out it is in a lot of stuff. It makes her randomly vomit, so that's another thing to maybe keep an eye on?

  • @DPandMB Beans caused my oldest to always have diarrhea every time. It's not an allergy, but she had such a hard time with them. Hope you can figure it out soon!

@Cats*in*space We are, we just need to find a new place in the same city. Our lease is up, and I'm not putting up with the awful management in this building any more!

  • @DPandMB just throwing out a strange "allergy" that some people might not think of. I am "allergic" to sucralose (self-diagnosed, thus the parenthesis). But it gives me awful diarrhea and stomach pains. It took me several months to figure out what was causing it and a food journal is what helped solve the mystery. Sadly it is being put in more and more foods and I constantly have to read labels.

Not trying to imply that it is sucralose, just seconding the food journal and that allergies can come from strange places.
  • @mrs_tacos Oh no! That's extra crappy having to move twice in a few months!!!  :weary:

  • @msashley2010-2 I'm so sorry your SO did that. He has to know how unacceptable that is and how upsetting it is if you can't find him. He better keep apologizing and think before he acts in the future.

Me, too.  Whenever I eat a decent amount of something touted as "sugar free", like SF life savers or SF gum, I also end up with gastrointestinal problems like that.  It took a long time for me to make the connection, partly bc I rarely eat SF stuff (the life savers were from my mom bc she didn't like them), and it was a surprise when I finally figured it out.  I think it's the stuff like xylitol, maltitol, etc.

Thanks everyone. I think we will keep a food journal and see what happens over the next few days/week.
@msashley2010-2 I am sorry about your argument. Have y'all talked anymore today? Do things seem any better?

My mom is "allergic" to a LOT of things, she doesn't test positive for the actual allergy but when she eats the offending item she gets severe diarrhea and a migraine that can last up to a week. Some of the worst are corn, beef, aspartame, eggs, seafood, berries. Lots of stuff really..... but aspartame is in SO much stuff! Also so is corn starch. It's bad. Poor woman has to be so careful. She also can have chocolate or peanut butter.
  • @msashley2010-2 sorry to hear about your argument with your SO! You are right to have been upset with him. I hope you are able to work it out and feel better about everything.
  • @msashley2010-2 You had every right to be mad at him. Disappearing late at night with another girl. Not cool. I'm sorry he said something very hurtful and I totally understand why you're still questioning what he said even though he took it back. I say when you've had some time to calm down you should have a serious talk with him. Tell him that what he said hurt you, even if he said he didn't mean it. I definitely believe he said it for some reason... but is the reason he said it b/c he was scared? trying to hurt you? There's definitely some meaning behind it... however it might be something less hurtful than what he actual said. Hope that makes sense.

@msashley2010-2 I'm glad  you guys were able to talk things out. That situation would definitely be very frustrating. Hopefully your SO will not repeat this behavior again.
