I'm spending my time studying for the Salesforce Admin exam i'm taking on Friday for work so i'm very much a lurker lately.
@RainyDays86 you just had a major surgery, it's totally understandable (though unfortunate) that it takes time to recover. I'm sorry you're in pain. If the MFM approved, please take the painkillers. It's such a tough phase you're going through, i don't even know how you're doing it.
@jayandaplus i hope the contractions go away! Feel better!
@llenadevida900 That is too cute!! DD just got three of the books for Easter and her fav so far is "Llama llama mad at mama!" Lol. Even though she was really confused at first because she loves shopping with me and we have gone multiple times a week since she was born so she was like "why he's mad?" the first couple of times we read it.
Yes! I love this clutch too. I got gifted one with DD and it was great until the fliptop thing fell off. I meant to superglue it back om but I kept putting it off then DH threw it out. I got a new one with a cuter pattern:)
I'm sure there has been a wipes discussion more generally but in the last few posts I'm getting the sense that it's common to use storebought wipes right?! At my (pretty crunchy) babycare class they were like THOU SHALT NOT TOUCH THE SKIN OF THY BABE WITH ANYTHING OTHER THAN WATER and told us to keep electric kettles at all changing stations so that we could pour lukewarm water on cloth to wipe the baby and I was like wait, what?!
What if we're out and about? What if it's the depth of the night and I just can't deal with waiting for the kettle to warm up to the precise temperature? Is this some maternal martyrdom I wasn't aware of or can I use premoistened wipes? I've been paralyzed about buying any because I'm not sure of the proper protocol HALP
@cato99 I've got to say, out of all the cloth wipe information I've seen in relation to cloth diapers, I've never seen one where they kept a warm kettle at the station! If you wanted to use cloth wipes, I think I saw most people just use a squirt bottle with water (unheated) to get the wipes wet when needed. When they left the house they would have a small container of wettened (is that a word? I don't think that's a word...) wipes. From what I've been told, warm wipes are overrated and personal choice. Personally, we are going to try to use store bought wipes because I don't feel like dealing with cloth wipes. But I have a feeling I'll switch to match the cloth diapers.
@cato99: I'll ditto @vrj0522 to say we used regular ol' store-bought wipes for our son. The kettle thing def sounds crunchy and I've never heard of that particular bit of advice. We also used the sensitive disposable ones and never had an issue; we also cloth diapered (but it sounds like they told you to use cloth wipes regardless of diaper type?). (@absbubbs: we never tried cloth wipes with the cloth diapers; I can def see the appeal, but we seriously went through a TON of wipes and I'm not sure we would've been properly prepared, quantity-wise, haha)
@cato99 and @absbubbs We are cloth diapering and using premoistened wipes. There are brands that are "crunchy" if that's the concern (water wipes, Aleva).
@absbubbs: Okay Way TMI here: some of his poops, especially when we hit the "solid food means solid poops" stage, were thick like mud and needed a good practically scrubbing (gentle of course but scrub nonetheless). We called those "five wipers" because that's how many we needed. If either my hubbs or I did the diaper change and then went back to the living room, all we'd have to say was "yeah, it was a five wiper" and the other of us would immediately understand (and maybe go pour the other a drink to erase the memory). Anyway, back to my point: Disposable wipes for the win. I wouldn't have wanted to hold onto and revisit that nastiness again in 12 or 24 hours when doing the laundry. It's gratifying to throw it all away!!
Random. So relieved and excited right now. I found out definitively last week that my insurance does NOT cover a breast pump. I was bummed but we have a super low deductible and out of pocket max so I can't be too sad. So I started planning to buy one. Well my best friend just had a baby in Feb who ended up spending about 6-8 weeks in NICU. She used the hospital pump while there but never could get enough supply so she stopped. She just offered to sell me her brand new Medela PISA plus all the parts from the hospital plus her very lightly used PISA from LO #1 for $50. I really don't need 2 pumps but I think she wants the stuff out of her house. I'm so relieved and glad that my money is going towards people who really need it vs a breast pump company.
Waiting to see doc for weekly check. I peed when I arrived. I'm sitting here bottomless (TMI) and praying I don't leak when she checks me bc I feel the need to pee again. This baby is tap dancing on my bladder.
Hello ladies, I haven't been on here too much because I've been trying to distract myself as much as possible to make the days go by quicker! Lately, I have no symptoms besides the occasional round ligament pain. I am now 38.5 weeks pregnant and I couldn't be happier. I hope you are doing well and if you're not I do hope things get better! And I know they will because we all have our tiny bundles of joy in route!
Not a bad idea about the pumps for work and home, but I only work 2 days/week and I don't have anywhere to store anything at work. However, I'll be looking for a Nurse Practitioner job sometime in the next year so I might end up needing one after all! She is an amazing friend and we've been through a lot together. I'm super lucky to have her!
Thanks @jayandaplus. Still at 1 cm. Head is engaged. And she offered to do an u/s next week, which I wasn't expecting. One more chance to find out sex, but we plan to stay true to team green.
Oh, and I I didn't pee on my doc, which is always a relief!
@ShadeofGreen816 - That is awesome, what a great friend! I apologize if this was already discussed, but if you're in the US, doesn't insurance have to cover breast pumps (at least for now)? I was under the impression the ACA mandated that.

@kayemjay2 I am in the US. Somehow my policy is "grandfathered" which means that it doesn't have to comply with the ACA. I'm not sure how that works. I have called now 4 times asking whether I'm'l covered and was told Yes, No, Yes, and Definitely not. So. I'm just going to go this route and be thankful that the other aspects of our plan are good. MH actually works as part of the HR department, so I should have him complain and maybe by the next babe, they'll have their plans in order, or we'll be with someone else all together!
@ShadeofGreen816 - That is so frustrating! Sorry you've had to deal with that, it sounds like a headache. It's ridiculous to me that there are apparently still loopholes for insurance companies to get out of covering the basics (most often for women).
I love the US, but sometimes I don't like it very much. Come on, guys. Get your sh*t together.

@RainyDays86 I hope your pain starts getting better. I think the first day after is always a fluke as the meds they use during surgery help with pain for a good 24 hours before completely wearing off. Don't feel bad about the pain meds at all, the less pain and stress you are in the less stress the baby will be in as well!! Hang in there!! Not to be all Internet creepy but you are absolutely amazing the way you are handeling all of this during pregnancy!! YOU ROCK!!
@starphish18 we use the soft pack of wipes with the plastic top for thto diaper bag. We use a wipe warmer at home so we buy the buggies naturals refills that have a ziplock top to keep the wipes fresh as you go through gr supply. Some think the wipe warmer is silly, but I do think it makes a small difference in the way babies react to the wipes especially during night changes.
@ShadeofGreen816 not only will you be able to leave a pump at work, if for some reason you get in a bind and need a pump part right away it's nice to have the extras from the other pump.
Today has been the first day I've been able to remotely catch up. I know I still missed a ton!
I've seriously been on cloud 9 since having Brenner!! I had no idea I would be able to love baby 2 just as much as I love DD already! I am struggling with boy diaper changes, I've already accidentally squeezed/pulled on his little penis when pulling the diaper back last night. And I accidentally pinched his little scrotum today while trying to while him! Mom of the year award over here!! Not to mention I keep forgetting to get the diaper good and tight at the top so he has peed up out of his diaper a good 5 times!
So glad you're doing well and loving being a mom to Brenner @BeachMommy2B! FYI make sure his penis is pointing down when you put the diaper on. DS peed out of many, many diapers before we figured that one out.

Hahaha electric kettles. That's a first. The hospital strongly encouraged water in the beginning so as FTPs, we used Vitax super soft paper towel and tap water the first with DD then eventually switched to disposable wipes. It was fine doing this so we will probably do the same with this LO for at least a week but switch sooner. DH has been more obsessed lately about all these chemicals that go into everything we get. He doesn't even want to put our clothes in our new drawers until it's been aired out first.
@BeachMommy2B I'm glad it's going well with a second so far! I'm nervous about having a boy this time when it comes to diaper changes and penis care. You will have to share whatever tips you figure out while they're fresh! Enjoy the newborn snuggles
@BeachMommy2B glad everything is going well at home. I love that you are finding humor in figuring things out. Makes us FTM not feel so bad about being clueless
@bacorrea we got home yesterday afternoon. For the most part everything is going great like I said, just the diaper issue.
Oh and I forgot my other breastfeeding/latch issues. Seeing the pediatrician and lactation consultant tomorrow. We think he may have tongue tie. His latch look amazing from the outside, but it is so painful and I was bleeding (a lot) I tried a nipple shield and it just filled with blood. He also lost over 10% of his weight in the hospital. So I'm pumping and feeding him from a bottle and we are supplementing with formula until my milk production gets higher and he gains some weighy back. I actually think I like pumping and bottle feeding better then the breast, it just a lot longer of a process. Especially at night when you want to sleep.
@BeachMommy2B So glad you're home and things are going well! You're going to be a great mommy to both of your little ones! You'll figure out the diaper/penis situation. Love the update and seeing you around!!
I love the US, but sometimes I don't like it very much. Come on, guys. Get your sh*t together.
I feel like this phrase captures a lot of feelings regarding pregnancy and new babies in the US....especially with maternity leave. Get your sh*t together!
@BeachMommy2B - It's so sweet to hear you talk about Brenner! I know a lot of STM were struggling with how we would feel about baby #2, and it is awesome to hear that the amount of love is still there!! Good luck with the tongue tie issue, I know that can be a beast. Enjoy that new baby smell!!
@ChristinaWild, yes, exactly! The feeling of "how can I love anyone as much, how can my heart be more full?" is such a valid sentiment.
@BeachMommy2B, it's so great to hear from you!! I love the update and it really sounds like you're settling in. Thx for sharing your feeding issues, too. Good luck with the appt tmrw!
@BeachMommy2B I love hearing how you are spilling with love for your new baby just like you are with your DD. It makes me excited to meet my little one. Hope you are able to get the breastfeeding issues sorted and find a comfortable routine.
@cato99 Sorry they put the fear of wipes in you. The idea of an electric tea kettle anywhere in my home with warm water at the ready sounds like a terrifying disaster waiting to happen especially with a toddler. We went straight to wipes. I am not even sure if the first batch were "sensitive" and these ones wont be unless an issue arises. Currently use Huggies One and Done because they are thick and smell good.
Re: Weekly Randoms 4/24-4/28
@starphish18 Unless I randomly acquire something else, I buy wipes in bulk and use them to fill plastic tubs and one of these for the diaper bag: Huggies Natural Care Baby Wipes Clutch N Clean Carrying Case 32-Count - Color/Styles May Vary https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JUZATMU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eRR.yb8SXXAA2
The clutch is MUCH cheaper at Target though.
