They didn't know before I got to the hospital. I never had a need for another US after my anatomy scan at 20 weeks, so they didn't know ahead of time. When I got to the hospital though, I was in loads of pain, my contractions were on top of each other, and I was having horrible back labor. My nurse figured it out, and was the one that had me try the different positions to flip the baby.
@DPandMB Yes, that's what I was asking, thanks. That sounds so painful! Sorry you went through that. I wonder if there's an effective way to flip the baby earlier on, like before labor starts? How complicated...
@margareth I think there are methods/theories on how to get the baby to flip before labor. The trick is catching that the baby is in that position before labor starts. The back labor sucks, but I got an epidural so it was a brief period of time that it was horrible. After the epidural, it was much better.
@DPandMB Well good for you for having that nurse in the room with you that day. I just told my sister what you said and she was like yep that describes my labor perfectly, but the nurses/doctors had no idea. At least we're now both educated on sunny side babies and if that happens to either of us we can tell the nurses/doctors.
20 Wks + 3 and finally starting to really feel movement late last week. DH got to feel the baby move today too! The baby was pretty active after eating dinner so I grabbed his hand and put it where I've been feeling it and it stopped. I told him to wait and he barely pushed down a little and the baby kicked or hit really hard. It was the strongest movement to date.
@mrs_tacos oh no!! I haven't look it up and totally didn't know that sunny side up was a higher risk. That would definitely throw a wrench in my all natural birth plans. Can they be turned easily?!

You can still labor naturally with a sunny side up baby. It just makes it more painful for mom and a tighter fit for baby. Your midwife / doctor should be able to feel your belly to check the baby's positioning when you are close to your due date.
You might check out spinning babies. They have a lot of info about how to get your little one to turn.
Now that I'm pregnant with my second I know I definitely felt baby kick before 16 weeks I just didn't know it. Now that I know what it feels like (to me feels like involuntary muscle spasms not gas ) I felt this one around 13 weeks so even if it's your first if your positive it's baby then it probably is. I also just knew my first was a boy and just knew this one was a girl and I was right both times so
I'm pretty sure I have had some kicks this evening. Tomorrow I'll be 17 weeks and I'm stm, so it makes sense. I felt them when I was in a sort of scrunched up position.
19+1 here. I can feel lots of movement throughout the day when I sit at my desk. Most of it is kind of below my belly button on the underside of my bump. When I'm standing or walking I don't notice it yet. Haven't tried to get DH to feel but I think he'll be able to soon!

I haven't been on this post in a couple days, so sorry for the lateness, I wanted to throw my two cents in as well. I found out the morning of the day DS was born. I asked my midwife if she could tell (I'd been having pretty bad back pain for several weeks, and another midwife that I didn't really like blamed it on an old back injury, even when I told her it wasn't the same kind of pain). My midwife said she could tell DS was sunny side up, because of how quiet/ the location of his heart beat was when she was using the doppler to check. She also said that because he was so far down in my pelvis (I think it was +1 pelvic station), it would be almost impossible to change his position at that point.
I'm surprised your sister's doctor's didn't check- mine did an ultrasound when I went to triage. Although, maybe they did it bc I told them the midwife said he was sunny side up, I don't know for sure. I haven't felt anything consistent with kicks yet. 17 weeks today. I have been feeling a lot of quickening, though. My OB said yesterday that the babies are all over the place, and would be all over the place until they start getting bigger. I just can't wait to feel these ones move like DD did.
Finally! Last night while using the Doppler I was able to identify baby movement. DH was doppling and I was able to help him find baby as baby moved around. Today I was able to identify kicks/jabs. So crazy.
@margareth are you asking if anyone had a sunny side up baby with an anterior placenta? If so, I did. We were able to get the baby to turn during labor, before I started pushing. I had to do lots of moving and laying in different positions, but it worked. The back labor was horrible.
I finally am feeling movement (I'm a FTM at 20+5), and my husband was able to feel it last night, too. So that was exciting!

Baby has been kicking recently, and last night I was able to feel one with my hand. DH wasn't quick enough, so he didn't get to feel it, but probably soon! I'm 18+6 today.
I'm 18 weeks and a STM. I felt something at 15 weeks but this little friend is low in my abdomen. My DD was right behind my belly button and she moved all the time and I felt her all the time. This friend is so low that I only feel when I am laying down because it particularly likes my hip and pelvic bone region! I mean I had to ask the OB at 16wks if it was normal for baby to be that low and he seems amused by my question. I'm really just thinking its just a super chill boy that doesn't care to be as active as big sis was.

My mom said my brother didn't move half as much as me... it had her worried several times.
@HollyGolightly09 I don't know gender yet... hoping May 1st we will find out. I'd love a super chill baby though... I got enough Sass in my life with my 2 year old DD I haven't been really worried about it yet... but I'm sure as I keep growing it might bother me more.

18+6 (measuring 19+5 at today's US) and I felt real kicks for the first time today! He's been super active and a few of them have made me jump. Best feeling ever!
@ColoradoHiker Yea. She thought it was very weird that literally no one knew/said anything until after her c-section. She's like I had all the symptoms. How did they not know?! She delivered at UCLA which is an amazing hospital. So we're still very confused. Since this discussion on this thread, I've done a lot of research and sent it to her as well (including spinning babies).
Yes @JNR6510. Real near future. Apparently I must be at the perfect time where he is little and my utter is bigger. There are times he just curls up on one side or flips across my stomach. It's cool but also uncomfortable and I remember how bad it's going to get.
18+5 and first legit "that was a kick" kick !! The doc said "any day" and was surprised I couldn't feel LO moving around at the a/s yesterday. Doc was right!

Me too! She moves a TON when we use the Doppler, but I haven't felt anything yet. Stupid plus-sized belly.
My daughter felt baby boy kick for the for the first time yesterday. He gave her a really good double kick. She was so excited! Then SO ran into the room and said, "my turn!"
Baby boy stopped moving altogether as soon as SO put his hand on my belly. I've been feeling him for weeks and SO has yet to feel a single kick lol.
I started feeling her at 18 weeks. She seems to like to hit milestones on the dot every Sunday. I feel her more when I am sitting down. I am still not showing, so I figure she is running out of room in there.
I'm 19 weeks today and I felt something last night! Again it was when I woke up to move positions and then fall back asleep. (I had something like this weeks ago and then not ever again.) I felt my own heartbeat with my hand but also another rhythm happening at the same time, so that's how I know it wasn't just my imagination. Maybe now I'll start to feel baby moving a little more frequently? But I wanted to get up and do a happy dance even though I was pretty tired
At what point should we be doing kick counts? Man article just popped up on my Bump app. I'm not sure that LO's movement is consistent enough to start trying to count, although I do feel movement every day at this point.
