@antoto So did you get through the first three books but couldn't get into the next set or read the first two trilogies (Phedre and Imriel's stories) but couldn't get into Moirin's? I am totally fangirling over here because I can't find a way to explain the books to others without making them sound weird so I love that I have finally found another person that has read them!

Holy shit y'all, I got 6 tiny chicks this morning! DH and I decided last night (after yearrrrs of talking about it) that we were ready to get chickens. I've done tons of research on DIY coops and breeds and we decided in the near future we'd get some chicks.
Well, I went to our local feed store this morning to chat with them about what we'd need, and wouldn't ya know it, they had 12 chicks available of the exact breed we wanted. It was the only batch they'd have of that breed all year, and they don't do holds -- so when they're gone, they're gone. So I went for it. Loaded up the car with everything we needed to get started, and off we went!
My my dad is building a brooder right now for us (a box they can live in for the first 8-10 weeks) but in the meantime, they're very happily cheeping away in a big Amazon box in our hallway
@antoto, @lulu1180 Yes!!!!! I love those series! I've read all three trilogies though Phedre's was by far my favorite and for the third book in Imriel's trilogy I basically just skipped through most of it to make sure everyone was happy at the end. I really don't like the "you know everything but everyone else doesn't remember anything and thinks you're crazy" shit.

I couldn't get into Imriel. I just don't really like him as a character and in general prefer to read stories of female characters. I've never tried out Moirin's - would you suggest it? Hah yeah there aren't really any good ways to explain it to someone without making it sound like smut. It's so good though!!! I would love to see them perhaps make a movie of it.
Yes @KariAnn323!!!!! She is such a strong female lead and I think that's part of what I first fell in love with! The first time a friend recommended the books to me, I read the basic description on my library's website and just kind of shrugged it off because it sounded kinda weird. So happy I read them though and OMG....BEST. SERIES. EVER!!!! (Sorry HP, I still love you too!)

@kmalls ah jealous! Both DH and I are wanting to get chickens (he also want a goat). We are turning into quite the animal house hold. I don't think that our backyard is big enough for chickens though. So post pics and let me live vicariously through you!
As for my week: Just working really. Trying to finish a book that I'm reading (American Psycho) that I can start reading some of the pregnancy books that I bought on Amazon. So if any of you see me online between 6pm-10pm PST on weekdays then yell at me to go read!
@antoto I liked Morin's series. It's not as good as Phedre's but she's more like able than Imriel (though Imriel became more like able in his second book)
@lulu1180 Yes! I love that she's an f-ing badass, sexy, submissive (at times), and smart as hell. There's so many awesome girl power themes running through it.
@KariAnn323 Yeah I tried to read his first book and I just got so angry because I was expecting Phedre level awesomeness and it just so was NOT. She's so damn amazing. "That which yields is not always weak" is my favorite quote from her.
@kiki75 What made you post about TSS on that drivebye?
I'm guessing it was because OP said that she filled 2 tampons in 2 days. 2 tampons + 2 days = def not changing that tamp every 4-6 hours = gross = here's some friendly info on TSS from webmd.

@kmalls@JennyColada - I WANT A GOAT! I have done absolutely no research on goats and we probably should get goats, but I WANT! All the videos I've seen of goat yoga aren't helping. That's so exciting about the chicks, @kmalls!
@kmalls@JennyColada OMG we totally want chickens and goats! Our next door neighbor has a ton of goats and sheep and we go feed them grass and watch them sometimes. Our other neighbor has llamas, which also look like fun. MH is obsessed with scottish highland cows because they look like muppets. If you would've told me 10 years I'd get so excited by farm animals I would have laughed in your face. 3 years living in the country has completely changed me.
@msmeeseeks It is pretty magical, yeah. MH and I have a fantasy of quitting our jobs and becoming farmers. If we can get our finances together enough to buy land here, we may actually do it at some point.

@vflux33 so much this! I am giddy at having these damn chickens, while 10 years ago I was living in the middle of the city and swearing I'd never leave. You know that commercial that's like "we're never having children, we're never moving to the suburbs, we're never getting a minivan?" THAT WAS ME.
ETA: I'm still never getting a minivan. Just to be clear
@kmalls HA yes! Before I left Facebook I got one of those "remember this day" notifications from my "clearly right now I know how I will always feel about this" phase just after MH and I got married and it was a 40 comment angry post about why I hated it when people assumed we were TTGP. Good times!
@lulu1180@antoto@KariAnn323 like @Avrilmai I'm totally going to be checking out this series. I love reading and with all three of you fan girling over it, it sounds like it is worth reading!
@darkrose88@mschanandlerbong1214@Avrilmai@sunniegrly The series is amazing!! There are a total of 9 books in it, a set of 3 trilogies. The one thing I will say is that it took me a little bit of time to really get into the first book because it provides background information and helps to set up the rest of the series. But they are definitely worth a read!
And FWIW, my favorite is the second book.

@kmalls, congrats on your chickens, how exciting!! Little baby chicks are the cutest.
We foster dogs, and we got a new one on Saturday. This poor little lady is seriously yanking on my heartstrings. She is from a massive hoarder/puppy mill case and was just released off of court hold. She's 2 and is the sweetest thing. She's going to be with us for a while as she learns virtually everything that a dog raised in a home would know.
Our mayor just announced a plan for city-funded, Department of Education run pre-K to be extended to 3 year olds by 2021. I'm so psyched- my degree is in Early Childhood Ed, and I love working with the little little ones and I'll finally have a chance to do so while still retaining my benefits as a DOE employee! Plus, the benefits to the students and their families are going to be amazing. It's so thrilling to hear about the government actually doing something good.

I saw this today too!! I'm so excited! I mean my kids won't benefit since we're in Westchester but it has been desperately needed in the city!
That is fantastic news, @jsnakehole! I'm glad to hear some positive education news.

Solidarity love-tit, @mschanandlerbong1214. Same thing happened with me this morning. Still sucks no matter how prepared you think you are.
I just want to say that you guys have really delivered in the TTA/benched thread re: ~~romance novel suggestions. And extended series are the best because last time we were TTC, I basically read the only book I'd selected (The Hating Game, it was p good for a beach read) before my period even ended and I was like welp, this wasn't helpful.
Fun semi-related story: like 2 years ago, I shared a kindle account with my mom because she loves to read whatever I read. I read 50 Shades of Grey on there because I thought it would be funny (uh, it sort of is?), but she knew it was a joke, and she knew enough about it's subject matter and how terrible the writing is that she didn't have any interest in reading it. But then Kindle suggested I read the Hacker series (anyone read that?). It's a lot better than 50 Shades, and it has a somewhat decent plot outside the sex stuff, and the sex stuff doesn't start until a ways in, but then it quickly turns into a A LOT more sex than 50 Shades after that. Like by the 4th book there's some pretty graphic anal sex stuff. Anyway, she was visiting like 6 months later, and I grabbed her iPad to look something up, and I noticed that it was open to the Kindle app and that she was like deeeep into book 3. And I was just like listen, good for you mom, but I don't know that I needed to know that you read so much of this book, and I don't know how you made it through this much of this series knowing that I read this series. Like, I get it, we're adults. Masturbation is natural. Big fan personally. But just... too much information...
Also, thank god everyone else wants to raise chickens and all that shit because I would rather die. You guys go raise them and I will buy your eggs because I want those things no where near me.
@lulu1180 so what genre are the books/ what are they about? I am always looking for a new series. I just started the Outlander series (almost done the first book). It is unlike anything I have read before so I have yet to weigh in haha.
Separate note - any of you thought about/or have fostered children? DH and I have had long convos about fostering. Without getting too deep, I work in the criminal justice field and feel that a glaring problem is children who are taken out of homes by DCPP(formerly DYFS) and then put in homes that are not one bit better. I feel that we have the resources, time and love to give and who knows it might help with my thinking about TTC every hour of every day. Just wondering if others have debated it/done it and what their experiences were
