@GG620 The books are fantasy and more specifically an alternate history. Here is the description as stolen from Goodreads
"In this epic fantasy series, step into the land of Terre d'Ange, a place of unsurpassed beauty and grace. The inhabiting race rose from the seed of angels and men, and they live by one simple rule: Love as thou wilt.
Phèdre nó Delaunay was sold into indentured servitude as a child. Her bond was purchased by a nobleman, the first to recognize that she is one pricked by Kushiel's Dart, chosen to forever experience pain and pleasure as one. He trained Phèdre in the courtly arts and the talents of the bedchamber--and, above all, the ability to observe, remember, and analyze."
I've also read Outlander and I loved the books! They are definitely different but that's certainly not a bad thing! Have you watched any of the series on Starz?

I have this fantasy about having a farmhouse and a thriving (rather than withering in the sun) vegetable garden, a coop full of chickens, and a couple of goats...basically what you see in Southern Living. But then I think about all of the actual WORK I'd have to do and how my house would NEVER look like anything in Southern Living unless you handed me a bajillion dollars, and I decide that my idea should remain a fantasy.
Basically I want to be Marie Antoinette and have someone create a little fantasy farm for me where I can go play farm and do no real work.
I have 4 books left in my current series (I'm on 12 of 15) but then I'm definitely going to check them out @lulu1180! Might take a while to get there though
@Avrilmai I'm reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It's supposed to be like vampire romance/erotica but after the first couple books it's less sex and more story.
@lulu1180 so what genre are the books/ what are they about? I am always looking for a new series. I just started the Outlander series (almost done the first book). It is unlike anything I have read before so I have yet to weigh in haha.
Separate note - any of you thought about/or have fostered children? DH and I have had long convos about fostering. Without getting too deep, I work in the criminal justice field and feel that a glaring problem is children who are taken out of homes by DCPP(formerly DYFS) and then put in homes that are not one bit better. I feel that we have the resources, time and love to give and who knows it might help with my thinking about TTC every hour of every day. Just wondering if others have debated it/done it and what their experiences were
Quote since y'all are still going on about fantasy novels.
I actually got approved to foster and adopt in Iowa with my ex. Through that process I learned that I wanted to be a parent, but not with her. Cue divorce. My DH and I are very open to the idea of adopting, but I would want to adopt a child somewhere in the 4-12 age range and therefore want to wait until our biological children are a little older (because it takes so much energy to keep them alive). Also, assuming I can even get pregnant and carry to term, I'm not sure I will want to do it more than once. DH has a son from a previous relationship and if we have another boy I will definitely want to adopt a little girl. DH and I will have to go through the whole approval and home study process in Nebraska, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Ideally, I would want to be in a bigger house by that time.

Oh mahhhh gahhhhd I saw this and I'm 1) really impressed by science 2) really excited for what this means for premature babies 3) deeply creeped out. All at once.
I'm on the way to a field trip. One of my kids hadn't paid for it yet, and since we didn't need to pay in advance I offered to pay for him. All the parents needed to do was sign the permission slip.
They didn't fucking sign it. I felt so bad leaving that kid behind but legally I can't take him.

A few weeks ago I was telling my family where we were in the IVF process, and I was throwing out things about stims, retrieval, fertilization, and parents, brother, and SIL kept stopping me to ask questions because why on earth would they know what all this is? So when I got to the part about the PGS testing, and the laser cutting the embryo open to remove tissue, my brother was just staring at me open mouthed. He goes "You need to write a science fiction novel, because there's no way that should be able to happen." I was like "What, the laser cutting it open?" and he's all "Yeah! That's insane!" And this is coming from a computer genius/software engineer who is well aware of what technology can do for us now. I said "But it's not science fiction, it's science fact!" I'm still flabbergasted that he was so impressed/awed by that given his knowledge.
Anyway my point is science is awesome.

Ugh, that sucks. I can't stand parents like this. It reminds me of that video that was floating around with that autisic kid in his class play who had that microphone taken out from in front of him... He didn't know what he was doing because he wasn't at any of the practices (bc the parents never signed the dang permission slip) and then they threw a fit to put him in last minute and then made it into a public social media frenzy.
@jsnakehole Ugh! I hate that! I've got a field trip tomorrow, and I'm still missing three permission slips. How is it that hard to sign a paper??
I also can't stand it when we have to hunt parent down for IEP meetings. Like, do you understand how important this is for your child?? I had one parent block my number becasue she didn't want me asking her about it anymore (she was "too busy" to come).
@Cricket648 I have a girl that obviously belongs in a 12:1:1, and the mom didn't show to either parent-teacher conference, ignores my emails, and came to ONE meeting where I showed her all of my data and the mother insisted her daughter only needed speech. Then when I told her the process for evaluating for speech, she never followed through. I can't do anything without the mom initiating, so my hands are tied.

@jsnakehole@Cricket648 some parents just don't want to face that there is something "wrong" with their kid. For older and immigrant parents there still a lot of stigma around IEPs and special classes.
@jsnakehole That's really sad and frustrating! It sucks, becasue ultimately it's the child that's going to suffer.
@mschanandlerbong1214 That's very true. I even have some coworkers that had a hard time accepting it with their own children even though they're educators and deal wit IEPs all the time.
@heatherdubrow I saw in the IF thread that you mentioned Outlander and did a little squee of excitement! I think you will LOVE the series if you love both of those!
