@serenity13 how much does he weigh? He might be too big for NB size. It's ok if the 1s are a little roomy in the back. They expand when wet. But all my babes are girls so can't help there. Good luck!
@serenity13 I guess I'd say get small packs of a few other brands and see what you like best. I personally love the pampers best with DD, but every mom I talk to has a different diaper they swear by for their kid.
Lots of local mom swap groups have ppl that will buy an open pack if you find you want to sell them.
Also/i never done it, but I've heard some ppl say you can get different brands to ship out samples of their diapers.
@serenity13 I will say Huggies leg holes seem to be bigger than Pampers, so if you think that's the problem steer clear. We're also big fans of Target's Up&Up!

thanks ladies for all the advice, I really appreciate it!!! He's almost 8 & 1/2 lb. so almost back to birth weight... I feel like such an idiot because we realized this morning what I think has been happening, since he's only really leaked out of the diapers I put on him, not the ones DH did. So I'm the problem, not the diapers. I feel like a bad mom for not doing it correctly- even trying the technique DH does (he showed me his way this morning after another failed leaky one on my part, he flattens it out more & checks to make sure the edges are all where they should be) I didn't put it on tight enough & it would've leaked again had we not caught it & fixed it before DS had the chance to pee again. Ugh practice makes perfect... hopefully I'll get it down sooner rather than later!
@serenity13 don't beat yourself up...we all make mistakes. We haven't had many diaper accidents except yesterday DH must of not put the diaper on tight enough when he changed her before he went to work. When I woke up to change her, her sleeper and the sheet was all wet...when I picked her up, he diaper wasn't even on anymore. It came undone on one side and was basically around her leg....poop and pee everywhere!!! Definitely gave DH a little bit of crap for it but it's all good!! Like you said practice makes perfect
Lol @serenity13 With or first kid I didn't do one single diaper change at the hospital. I kind of felt like I'm doing the feeding, hubby can do the diapers. He had to teach me how to put the diaper on because I seriously had no clue
Welcome to motherhood! Making lots of mistakes and learning from them! Don't feel silly--we've allbeen there.
I thank God for making babies clueless little beings! They won't remember a single moment of these days we get to practice our parenting and make mistakes, and transition into this new role of "mama" They'll forgive and forget for the diaper rash from forgetting to change them and falling back asleep-they'll never know how many times you let them roll off the couch (don't judge-it'll happen ) they'll never remember all the fights you had while you were sleep deprived and overwhelmed!!
@serenity13 DD is almost 4 weeks old and I have incorrectly put on 2 diapers in the last 12 hours causing pee leakage accidents for the first time.... she is only about 7lbs so I am sure it is me and not her being too big yet. The second incident was like @spartanrd4 where the one side came totally undone.....
@serenity13 Don't feel bad. There are way worse mistakes to make than not making a diaper tight enough. I was always worried about making it too tight and hurting LO. A friend said to me the other day if you don't feel like a bad parent a couple times a day then you aren't doing it right. Which sounds funny but it's kind of true. If you don't think you're making mistakes then you probably don't care as much. Feeling bad proves you care which makes you an awesome mama. Don't get down on yourself....you're doing great!
@IloveAlbert yes! I've heard that too. ---> If you're worried about "being a good mom" that means you already are a good mom! Sadly lots of kids don't have parents that are concerned with that.
@Jilliants Zantac has been a game changer for us!!! Ben can finally eat a full 4oz bottle (he's 9 weeks now) and might finally catch up with his twin! He no longer screeches during feedings!
He had silent reflux (pain with no spit up). TBH he is spitting up some now. My theory is it doesn't burn his throat anymore and he doesn't realize he's spitting? I'll take the spitup over the pain cries :'(
Waiting to pick up her prescription now. Thankfully she doesn't cry during feedings and is gaining wel, but the screeching for 20-30 minutes after is killer. And then she wants to eat more to soothe herself, which only makes things worse. I'm hoping it'll help with the nighttime choking and gagging.
@Jilliants it was a game changer for us with DD2. She was refusing to eat due to discomfort and finally started gaining again with zantac. After a while we needed to increase her dose - it was obvious when it needed to be increased bc all the signs came back - screaming at feedings, arching her back, slowed weight gain due to refusing feeds etc. GL!
Any STMs decide the first time around to become a SAHM during your maternity leave? How did it go when you told work?
I'm seriously considering becoming a SAHM. I'm pretty sure that we can swing it financially and DH is super supportive of the idea. He grew up with a SAHM that gave up a good career to raise her kids, so he respects that. I know that he secretly has always hoped that I would go that route even though outwardly he has supported my decision to go back to work.
That is until I held her for the first time. In that instant my priorities changed. Now I want to stay home.
We've decided to wait to make a final decision so that we can play with the numbers and to ensure that this isn't just post partum hormones talking (she's only 9 days old).
I feel like a jerk about the work situation. I kept reassuring my boss that I would definitely be coming back. I'm very good at my job and the department will suffer without me. I know that she'll be understanding, but I just feel bad about it. Any advice from BTDT moms?
Thoughts and prayers for wisdom would be appreciated.
I'm worried my 7 week old baby hasn't smiled yet-- we've gotten a few big open mouth grins, but I'm not sure if they're true social smiles. If he doesn't smile by his 2 month check up, should we be worried? Any other late smilers?
@RunBooRun when I told work I wasn't returning they were really great about it. In my office I worked with mostly older women who were also moms and they all (especially the boss) 100% understood and even applauded my decision to stay home. Even though they were selfishly upset because I was good at my job and they liked me as a person. As a SAHM, I can tell you it's not easy, but I'll never regret being home during these baby days. I say go for it--it's not for you--that's fine! It can just be temporarily and you can rejoin the work force when you really want it and not be miserable at work wondering "what if"
@RunBooRun I think if you are able to swing it and it's what you want, do it. Work can always find a replacement (they may not be as good as you, but they will survive). It definitely is a challenge being a SAHM.. I'm a teacher so I get maybe the best of both worlds and get to be one during the summer months. I wish we could make it financially so I could be one. Like @kjd291 said, there is no comparison to getting to stay home with your LOs when they are little.
And, that's great that your husband is supportive! Mine is too if we could do it. A friend from work's husband wants her to work even though I think they could be ok without.

@jomarma My baby just turned 7 weeks today as well and I'm in the same boat. We've gotten a few spontaneous grins, but not necessarily in response to things we're doing so I'm not 100% convinced they are social smiles, more like maybe he's just smiling to himself.

@jomarma what's babes adjusted age?? That would probably change pedi's concern. But I wouldn't be worried at all!! The "norm" is around 7-8wks So you still have at least another week for "average" so don't worry about having a late smiler just yet!
So since learning to put DS's penis pointed down we've been doing that now and yet he still peed through his diapers 3 separate times today- all on me btw, so I had to change out of pee soaked clothes each occasion... I'm so frustrated because they're NB size and if anything they're too small - they're closed nice & tight on him, I just don't get it. Once or twice his poo has also leaked out at other times. I'm thinking of buying a different brand tomorrow but I hate throwing more money away. Anyone have a brand they might recommend that isn't the pampers swaddlers?
My kid peed out of diapers when they are too small. If he was peeing out I upped the size. The wrought guide on the box is not really useful.
@jomarma my first son didn't actually start smiling in response to things or to us until he was six months old. He actually has high functioning autism though and that may have been a clue at the time. I had mentioned something at his two month appointment about how he never smiled and the doctor didn't seem concerned because he was hitting other milestones. I don't think these things are all concrete based. Your baby may smile at 10 weeks and not 8 but may start rolling at 3 months and not 6. Not necessarily something to worry about unless it's consistent delayed milestones.
@serenity13 I buy Parent's Choice diapers. They're dirt cheap and incredibly absorbent. I have had 2 occasions where he's peed out of them (one was because my aunt put the diaper on too loose), and he pees a LOT. As a bonus, my little guy has really sensitive skin and they don't irritate it.
@Ivorytower2 I used the boon lawn for a while it is great but keep an eye on the grass it got moldy , I actually really like the dr brown drying rack it holds all different size parts and bottles and washes so nice in dishwasher
Baby #2 hates naps. Like never takes them no matter what I do. He sleeps great most nights so I should be grateful - but during the day he just won't go down. Swaddling, dark room, cuddles, laying him down on my chest, rocking, etc. He lays there and stares at me or at the ceiling if we put him in the crib or somewhere else - and then after 10 minutes he just screams to do something else. He's fine if I'm carrying him in the carrier or whatever - stares at me and looks around. But its so odd that he hates naps so much - I love naps. My DHs mom did mention DH didn't nap much as a baby. I'm exhausted.
@marshmallowfarts Could it possibly be something you're eating? One of my friends' DD2 didn't sleep during the day and she didn't know what was going on. She then realized that she was adding a bunch of cocoa nibs (caffeine) to her smoothie and once she eliminated that, her baby started sleeping.

@shines721 I drink one espresso drink in the morning - omg if that's it I'm going to cry. Giving up caffeine again seems so cruel. I guess I'll have to experiment some.
My secret for naps is putting baby down asleep on her tummy. I know they tell you not to put them on their tummy anymore but it used to be the recommended side for sleep. I only do this for naps while I can watch her while doing housework. Your baby is 10 weeks, does he have decent head control? DD can lift and turn her head so it's safe for her.
@marshmallowfarts My DD1 also hates naps. She slept well at night, but she would never nap so she'd end up with intense witching hour and then sleep well at night. I would seriously spend 1 hour getting her to nap and then she'd wake up 20 minutes later. The only place she'd ever nap is the ergo. DD2 sleeps all damn day and I do nothing to get her to sleep. I really think it's their personality.

If it makes you feel better that's probably not it. Usually it takes pretty excessive caffeine consumption. But an experiment can't hurt. Maybe switch the esmspresso fir some caffeinated tea for a week (to avoid the headaches) and see if anything changes.
My #2 is ending every day was way overtired and overstimulated...she ain't sleep apart frying me, and it's not fair to ask her two year old burger to be quiet all day. So far wraps are my friend, although occasionally she rebels and wants nothing to do with them.
