Ask a STM - week of 3/31

Re: Ask a STM - week of 3/31

  • @ShannonJ96 Definitely is uncomfortable. I had a second degree tear.. we prob didn't use enough lube the first time.. but seriously, load up. Just be ready to take it slow. It felt better with time and also with me relaxing about it. I don't know when it finally stopped hurting but it was a few months.
For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him.

  • Well now I am needing help in getting lo to sleep. He has been awake for hours today.
  • So I have to ask. How badly does having sex for the first time after having the baby hurt? I had a couple of small tears. I think they were second degree tears, but I don't quite remember. My postpartum checkup is coming up shortly, which means I should be given the all clear to start having sex again. Is it just uncomfortable or is it actually painful?
For me it was just not enjoyable. I felt too tight. If say it was comparable pain to the first time I had sex. I think my scar tissue healed something together awkwardly.

Shouldn't he be awake for hours at this point? How many hours are we talking about? I'm annoyed because my 5 week old is sleeping something like 18 hours a day still and it feels abnormal.

  • @longliveregina @disneybaby84 I think we're closing in on the first leap according to the Wonder Weeks? DS has been up a ton more than usual and is super cranky. Only happy when I'm holding him, preferably walking around.

  • So all day he napped once for 30 mins, then once for an hour. He then was up for another 2 hours then slept for 30 mins. Then again. Basically he was awake for forever, until 9:30pm, when we used every strategy for an overtired baby. Now he has been asleep for 4 hours solid, but hasn't eaten in 5.
Moral of the story, Don't overtired your baby, you'll pay dearly.  And no, I'm not exactly sure what created this mess, just glad he's back to sleeping.
  • @disneybaby84
I have been having the same issue. The only way I have been able to get my baby to nap for any lenth of time is to hold him, which is not something I'm willing to get him used to.

Normally he sleeps really well at night, but last night after going to bed at 11, he was up from 2am until 6am. Then when he finally fell asleep, he kept spitting up, gagging, and farting so I didn't fall asleep until 7. Then we got up at 7:45.  :/ Its irritating, but I don't think there's anything you can do at this point. Newborns sleep when they want to sleep.
  • Grunting and squealing. Baby does this so much during the day. Is she allergic to my breast milk? It is far worse at night which limits our already lack of sleep :/ any suggestions??
  • @MsTurney I doubt she is allergic... newborns are noisy little creatures and no one warns you of that! I'd say as long as you get a good burp out before laying her down there's probably not much else you can do. My LO will wake up, cry out, and fall back to sleep. She also grunts, farts, and snores all without the need to be awake haha it eventually stops.. she also has some reflux though so some nights are more difficult bc of that. Is your DD spitting up a lot? If so an incline might help
  • If you had a linea nigra...how long did it take to go away?

For me the linea took a while to totally go away. I want to say maybe 3-5 months.

Mine is also crooked which seriously bothers my OCD
  • @Spartanrd4 so I shaved mine off and it didn't grow back. This is the second time that's happened for me. Not sure if that's the case for everyone though...

  • Maybe mine is different? It wasn't on my skin I just grew a line of dark hair? It was literally just a straight line that popped up both times when pregnant. Maybe my body screwed up what it was supposed to do haha - wouldn't be the first time!

  • @marshmallowfarts I was curious so I Googled. Not everyone gets linea nigra. :)  Or rather, it's not always visible. (TIL everyone has a linea alba, or a "white line." If it turns dark during pregnancy due to hormones, it becomes linea nigra.) So if all you got was a streak of hair that you could simply shave off, that's awesome! That's a body WIN!
  • My linea nigra WAS a straight line while pregnant and I looked in the mirror 2 weeks pp and realized that after my c section the Dr stitched me up crooked so the line is no longer straight.... This drives me insane!

  • In addition to the crooked linea nigra I have dark belly button skin! It took forever to go away last time, maybe 5 months? But eventually it almost like peeled off.
  • Yes my entire belly is darker.. like I got a serious tan only there .. it was with DS too but not this bad. My line never went away fully before I got pregnant again (9 months) I heard exfoliating a lot helps.. I've been using bio oil for about a week now and I have to say I think I'm seeing some considerable improvement compared to before.. enough to keep on using it at least
  • Ditto to the crooked line! So far no high hopes of showing off my midriff this summer, so not too concerned ;p haha.
  • I didn't get a line until literally the day before I delivered. It's pretty faint but I'm gonna try to use oil/balm on it. I didn't end up getting any stretch marks that I can see so my daily balm routine worked for preventing that at least!

  • DS has peed like 6x so far today and his pee keeps seeping through his diapers as if they're not even doing anything. Is this normal? Whatever he's wearing gets drenched in pee, especially up under his back. We're using Pampers swaddlers & bought newborn size today b/c we thought the size 1 we were using were too big maybe but he still peed through the NB size diapers too. Is this brand just not absorbent or are we doing something wrong?

Its probably escaping out the leg holes. Point his little penis downwards when you close the diaper :)

^^^ make sure you're pointing down!

Otherwise I don't think theres anything you could be doing "wrong".  not having the straps put tight enough around his tummy??
  • We had the leaking thing with DS too.  It was the pointing down problem haha they never told us in the hospital and we didn't know!  I think it was my mom that mentioned it.  Fixed the problem right away!
  • Thanks ladies!!! We haven't been doing that lol they never mentioned it in the hospital & we've definitely been keeping it more "up" since we're still using ointment/gauze for his circumcision but that makes so much sense now!

  • @serenity13 We did the same thing with our first! I will say that we kept it pointing up until the circumcision was healed because I didn't want the fun liquid poop to get all over it.

Also.. don't be afraid to have the diapers on nice and tight. If they are towards the lower weight of the diaper, then the tabs should be close together.

  • DS peed out of so many diapers as an infant that his nickname was Supersoaker. We pointed down, tried different brands and somehow that kid just figured out how to pee on people lol. They do grow out of it

Until I became a girl mom, I never appreciated the poop blocking power of a scrotum. I have to bathe this little girl every day now because I'm freaked out by how often I have to clean poop out of her labia.

  • @longliveregina I used to do in home childcare for a while and you are sooo right. Hands down girls are way worse at diaper changes because of all the folds involved!

Omg.. DS2 had the most insanely filled diaper on Saturday that I exclaimed "What would I do if this was a girl?!" ... I can't even imagine!

  • Does anyone have a drying rack for pump parts,  bottles, pacis that they love? Last time we used a generic dish rack, but I need to buy something anyway so thought I'd check if anyone had a baby specific recommendation. Thanks!
  • @Ivorytower2 +1 for boon grass pad! We also have the tree accessory for it

So since learning to put DS's penis pointed down we've been doing that now and yet he still peed through his diapers 3 separate times today- all on me btw, so I had to change out of pee soaked clothes each occasion... I'm so frustrated because they're NB size and if anything they're too small - they're closed nice & tight on him,  I just don't get it. Once or twice his poo has also leaked out at other times. I'm thinking of buying a different brand tomorrow but I hate throwing more money away. Anyone have a brand they might recommend that isn't the pampers swaddlers?

  • @serenity13 my favorite diaper is the target brand diaper! Those things can hold a waterfall and still hold more pee on top of it.
