Chances of NOT having a miscarriage

Hi everyone --- I'm copying this from some of the previous BMBs. Despite having miscarried before against the odds, I do find this chart helpful and comforting. I know we're all still pretty early on in our pregnancies, so I hope this chart will help you.

As always, wishing everyone a happy and healthy nine months!

  • Every time I start to stress and jump on Google for answers (which does absolutely no good), I come back to this post and remind myself that that I'm moving along nicely. I'm 40 so I'm trying hard not to focus on that though, I'm healthy, active and in some of the best shape of my life <3
  • I'm 40 too, and pregnant for the first time!  Also trying to focus on the positive. So so excited!!!!!

  • I keep checking this. I love how every day the number is a little higher for a "take home baby".

  • Where did you get your information? I was just at my reproductive endocrinologist yesterday and he said the risk of miscarriage is more about the heartbeat rate then the actual date.
  • @kvacmak thanks, I agree! I had to dig for it the other day so thank you for bumping

    @mrsjem77 this is a thread that is posted in many of the BMBs. Here is some specific text (taken directly from another BMB):

    User @l4rk from the January 2016 BMB found that she only felt a little bit better after looking at statistics about this topic, and she realised why;

    "...articles on miscarriage focus on the chances you're going to miscarry and all the comments share miscarriage stories--they don't focus on how many people DON'T have miscarriages and go on to have happy, healthy babies!"

    So she inverted this week-by-week chart to focus on the chances of NOT having an early miscarriage.

  • I have seen a lot of those statistics and those are accurate, except for most sources indicate that the numbers are for when after a heartbeat is detected. At 6 weeks if an u/s detects a healthy HB chances of miscarriage are under 10%, at 8 weeks w/ HB chances drop below 3% and then below 1-2% after first tri. I could grab the sources if anyone would like,  but I'm just throwing the general gist of it together.

    Can't speak to accuracy, but I showed this to MH who is an excel nerd and he plotted it for you guys for convenient viewing. GL!
