Re: 1st Trimester Check In: Week of March 27th!

  • Sort of freaking out a bit right now ladies so hope you don't mind me posting here! Just got a call from my OB today that she's received a "note" from my RE that in my last u/S on 3/13 they had noticed that baby a had a thicker neck which could be an indicator for Down's syndrome.  She was shocked when I told her this is the first o heard of this as she thought my RE had told me.  Anyway she put in right away to have an NT scan done tomorrow with a high risk doctor.  We did get the pre-natal genetic testing but the results came back inconclusive due to low fetal DNA in my blood (apparently it's normal esp in overweight women like myself)  so I just had it done again and will get those results on Monday, if they are indeed conclusive this time.  Feeling very defeated right now even though I don't know for sure one of the twins has downs the possibility is stressing me out.  DH and I need to have a talk tonight to decide what we will do if things turn out baby a does have downs.  Has anyone ever been through this or do you know anyone who has?  Trying to keep positive but the unknown is really hard especially when we thought they were both healthy.

  • @megmralph wow 4 babies is incredible! I have no advice to give but know we'd likely look into selection reduction as well just because the health of all the babies is at risk.  It's so hard but I'm sure the doctor will be able to shed some insight for you guys.  Congrats!

@megmralph so happy you decided to join! I completely understand on the uninformed piece-there's hardly any information about HOM anywhere besides message boards and while I certainly appreciate this as a resource, I don't qualify it as a scientific information source. Our RE discussed SR with us as well, though we were tentatively told we are not the best candidates for it since two of our littles are sharing a sac. Are all four of yours in their own sac? I have minimal information otherwise--I'll be seeing an MFM next week if my ultrasound Monday shows the triplets are hanging in there. It's painful for me to even consider SR for the exact reason you shared--we tried so hard for so long, and were actually starting to look at DE when we got our two miracle embryos that became a triple blessing-threat. Haha. But we are torn over safety and health. Please pm me if you want to chat!! I would seriously value a friend that's going through an HOM pregnancy.

@LeFemmeViolette thinking about you and praying your us tomorrow brings good news and a small bit of peace of mind! Keep us updated!!
  • @emgem819 a good friend had test results saying her daughter would have downs and it caused terrible stress... but her daughter is a totally healthy bright girl. I'd wait till you get all the test results and chat with your husband. We're doing the tests at 13 weeks that would tell us this and other info, but I guess I wanted it just for my knowledge to prepare myself. I know it's so stressful but they're helping you so get those results and keep us posted :)
  • Thank you @PolythenePam I appreciate your kind words.

@emgem819 I am so sorry for the extra stress you are dealing with right now. That is scary to have to think about. I also find it crazy that your RE didn't mention it until just now...like wth, that is definitely something to share with your OB, as well as you, immediately. I am crossing my fingers for you that it was just the angle of the scan, and that everything will be healthy and perfect tomorrow. Please keep us updated and you will be in my thoughts! <3

  • We had a NT scan done today where they measured the baby in questions neck and it was 3mm.  Based on this we met with the genetics counselor and he told us the chances are combined with my age of 37 when embryos were frozen, there is about a 5% chance (1 in 20) that it will have a chromosomal abnormality like Downs.  So he recommended we jump right ahead and do the CVS testing where they test each Babies placenta and it's supposedly more accurate than the q natal blood test. So I got that done this afternoon...it was really hard with twins because they had to go in with a needle in my abdomen and get a sample of the placenta and then for the other twin, they went in vaginally but it took forever.  Feeling super sore right now but I'm glad we got it done.  Will get results Monday, Dr said he'd call me.  Meanwhile I'm just a nervous mess as is dh.  We talked about what we'd do if it comes back as downs and we aren't exactly in complete agreement but I guess we will take that step when it comes.  If we choose to abort the twin with downs, at least it will be within the first trimester still by the time we get the results.  Ugh.  Just super hard stuff to deal with and I'm trying hard to think positive.

  • *Cross posted this from my BMB*

I am a bit concerned about my appointment today. The baby came back beautiful, with a strong heartbeat. She was doing a go-go dance type of move and it was really cute to watch. The doctor said that I have some abnormal bleeding next to the placenta area, and isn't sure what it is. I have to go back on Thursday to get a higher quality scan, but I'm just nervous now. I asked him if it could be an SCH, since I had one around 6 weeks, and he said it didn't have the same characteristics so he didn't think so. Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this? The baby is just perfect so I am hoping this is nothing big.

  • @jeanware FX for your first ultrasound on Wednesday!! How cool that you will have a Thanksgiving baby!

@emgem819 Well however you are feeling (scared, weak, numb, angry etc,) it is all normal and healthy. You are strong in my eyes and have always been as long as I have known you on the January FET board! I hope you and DH are able to console in each other right now, as that always makes a world of a difference. <3

  • Hey girls! I was curious if anyone started to notice a difference in symptoms between the progesterone they were on vs. the beginning of their pregnancies symptoms. What symptom changes and when. Also what you are taking? It's so hard to tell the difference since I've been taking the Endometrin suppositories 2 days after my IUI. I'm at 5 weeks 1 day and been more crampy and gassy and tired. And from my understanding I won't really feel true early pregnancy symptoms till 6 weeks?
  • Hi ladies! I am new to this board. Just got my BFP about a week ago. Still a bit shocked and amazed that I finally got a positive. I got a 355 on my first beta and then 664 on the second one two days later. Very excited to start this journey after so many years of ttc.

    1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?  5 weeks 4 days & November 30th.

    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?  So far, I have mostly just been exhausted. I have never been a nap person, but have started to need a daily afternoon power nap to make it through the rest of my day, and have fallen asleep in my recliner while relaxing with my husband the past few nights and that has never happened before. I didn't know I could feel so tired! I have also been having the weirdest dreams of my life. And my boobs have been sore since I got the BFP, but that seems to be letting up a bit. They are definitely a little fuller too.

    3. When is your next appointment?  4/3 is my first ultrasound. Hope everything looks good in there!

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?  Just that I am grateful for these boards. I felt so alone for such a long time and it has been so nice to connect with other women who are having similar experiences. Looking forward to hearing more about your journeys!

QOTW: The first trimester seems to be a bit stressful for most of us. What methods have you found to help deal with and manage your stress levels? Deep breathing has always been really helpful for me. I try to remind myself to take some deep breaths throughout the day, especially when I notice myself getting keyed up. I also tend to feel better after going for a walk or hitting the gym. Focusing on positive things and practicing gratitude has also been helpful to me.

  • @ShyTonia when I was weaning off of PIO shots or progesterone suppositories, I got pretty bad headaches and I was always tired too.  Plus the nausea stared around 7 weeks and has mostly tapered off now, and this is all the pregnancy symptoms, not caused by the progesterone.  Hope that helps a little:)
@Jeansis welcome and congrats!  I feel you on the always tired front--it's been hardest for me at work to stay alert all day, plus I've given up coffee so that's probably part of it!  Thanks for the reminder on deep breathing...always good to remember to breathe! I started a new meditation app today that helps me focus on that.

  • Hi Ladies!  I've been super MIA because work has been SO BUSY for me.  I've been pulling 70 hr weeks lately, making up for a lot of the time I had off to do IVF.  So I've just been exhausted.  BUT HI.  Glad to see everyone is doing well!!

    1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?

    12 weeks.  October 13!

    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?

Headaches, exhaustion, aches and pains in my pelvis, emotional, weird shooting pains in my private area (sorry TMI).

    3. When is your next appointment?

Monday - my first ob appointment.  I last saw my RE at 9 weeks, so I'm anxious to see how things are going.

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?

We are going to check out daycares on Monday... apparently you have to get on the list early in our town.  I'm kind of nervous and excited at the same time.  I'm also bummed that I will have to return to work after 12 weeks of maternity leave (6 is paid, 6 is unpaid..)

QOTW: The first trimester seems to be a bit stressful for most of us. What methods have you found to help deal with and manage your stress levels? *I feel like we may all have tips that others could utilize so I’m excited for this QOTW!

Trying to find time to decompress -- read a book, paint my nails, talk on the phone with a friend.

  • @LeFemmeViolette TWINS! That's so exciting!

@emgem819 I'm so sorry you're going through this worry. Hopefully the CVS results will bring good news.

@ChocolateIsLife I hope the scan on Thursday gives you some helpful answers. It's great to hear that your little munchkin is doing so well!

I'm really going to miss you ladies now that I'm moving to the 2nd trimester board this week, but I look forward to seeing you there soon!

    1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?

    4w5d... December 6th!

    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?

Sore but fabulous boobs, lots of cramping, frequent peeing, hunger (possibly all in my mind) and slightly funny digestion. My cervix is super high and projecting... (possible TMI) there is no way DH & I could BD right now - has anyone else noticed this?

    3. When is your next appointment?

Not scheduled yet... if I haven't heard from them on Monday, I'm taking it into my own hands though!

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?

I'm absolutely delighted to be joining you here  <3

Like many others, I've had CP before, so I'm pretty tense about this working out. My doctor mentioned I should not let my blood-pressure elevate for the next couple of weeks just to be cautious... so I'm avoiding all the fun things I usually do to distract myself, consequently going more than a little nuts!

  • 1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?

    4w2d December 8

    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?

my GI system is SO messed up (gas city!)! I'm constantly starving and having a little nausea if I go too long without eating. Boobs have been sore since we started progesterone before transfer, but they seem to get worse every day.

    3. When is your next appointment?

    Not for 2.5 weeks!

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?

After 1.5 years of BFNs I am over the moon to finally get to say I'm pregnant! I know there are still hurdles to get over, but now that we've had our two betas it's actually feeling real!

QOTW: The first trimester seems to be a bit stressful for most of us. What methods have you found to help deal with and manage your stress levels? *I feel like we may all have tips that others could utilize so I’m excited for this QOTW!

I'm not finding myself very stressed out, but I did start using a meditation app and doing yoga before bed. It probably doesn't hurt that the weather has been sunny since our first beta. Haha

  • @MountainLady @PoeMasque hey guys! The three of us are due with in a week of each other!  :)
  • 1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?  8-5. 11/8/17

    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?  Exhaustion, nausea still (I told DH it just feels like I have a hangover in my stomach, all day, every day).  I've also been craving greasy, carby food, probably because that's usually what gets rid of my stomach hangovers.  And the aversions are kicking in... Usually I love a South Philly roast pork sandwich, but the other day when were about to grab a couple the thought of it just turned my stomach and I had to get a cheesesteak instead, and watching DH eat his was like, nauseating.  And forget meat in the crock pot; the very thought of a roast right now just makes me gag.

    3. When is your next appointment?  End of April, though I'm supposed to have an NT scan I think through the high risk docs before then.

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?  It's so hard trying to figure out when and how to tell people. Dealing with family and big mouths and lack of filters and hurt feelings, it's just a nightmare.  Why can't everyone just be happy for us and keep their mouths shut??

Also, I bought a turkey bacon cheddar wrap for lunch and was very excited about it, and then I'm sitting here and just remembered I can't eat it. Womp womp.  I thought sushi would be the tough thing to give up; turns out remembering I'm not supposed to eat lunch meat is WAY harder, especially when I'm buying lunch before my morning coffee.  I'm seriously considering just microwaving the stupid thing til it's basically molten and eating it anyway, or just taking out the turkey, because the pita wraps this place uses are magic.

QOTW: The first trimester seems to be a bit stressful for most of us. What methods have you found to help deal with and manage your stress levels? *I feel like we may all have tips that others could utilize so I’m excited for this QOTW!  Exercise is a biggie for me. If I don't work out more than a couple days in a row, my stress levels get noticeably higher.  Yoga lately hasn't been doing it for me; I think it's because I had to leave my (super-heated) studio, and the new place I found just isn't home, no matter how nice everyone is, but working out with my trainer is amazing.  And I've noticed just saying no sometimes is wonderful for maintaining my sanity.  Not to everything, but we always find ourselves doing a lot of stuff out of obligation; family parties, stuff for friends' kids, showers, etc, stuff we don't want to do but we feel like we have to.  And I've found saying no to a selective third of it or so really helps me not freak out from being overwhelmed.

  • 1. How far along are you? What is your EDD?  I think almost 9 weeks? EDD 11/7?

    2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?  Nausea, terrible dry mouth and bad, bad taste, exhausted, peeing even more than normal at night--maybe 9-10 a night if I am sleeping at all. Hoping this congestion is just allergies

    3. When is your next appointment?  Wednesday. I have moved from cautiously optimistic to optimistic while still knowing something bad can happen.

    4. Anything else you'd like to share?  I have to go back to work FT in two months and have no idea how I am supposed to ever go back to work with an 18mo and a newborn.

What methods have you found to help deal with and manage your stress levels? *I feel like we may all have tips that others could utilize so I’m excited for this QOTW! I'll need to take a pass on this one. Not finding much in the way of relaxing...too busy managing some intense MS.

  • @ShyTonia I'm still on Endometrin, so I can't speak to what it's like after, but I did notice my symptoms get heavier a little further in.  On progesterone cycles that didn't result in a pregnancy, it was just all worse PMS symptoms for me; a little extra bloating, breast tenderness, and more intense cramping.  I had all that with the pregnancy early on, but I also got very lightheaded at work one day about a week after my IUI, and I would randomly feel waves of nausea and gassy (burping, which I never do!), which never happened for me on just progesterone with no pregnancy.  Then around week 6-7, after the pregnancy was confirmed, the symptoms kicked into high gear all around; nausea, breast and nipple pain, bloating, gas, exhaustion, the whole 9 yards.
  • Thanks @Sasha29 xoxo Tomorrow I have my first US and am terrified! The anticipation is killing me  :#
  • Hey all! Soooo great news,  we got to see the very strong heart beat today at 140-150bpm!!! I could not even believe it when the words came out of his mouth!
I am measuring at 6w2d so that makes for an early December baby!!! Pure bliss right now! Waiting to hear back from Obgyn for appointment, I was released from our fertility dr today and now on to the Obgyn!
  • Congrats @ShyTonia! It has to be a relief to hear that heart beat!
