i feel like a teenage boy, i am breaking out with zits all over the place. like not just a small zit here or there. i am pretty sure the Himalayas are breaking ground on my body.
@Myelhsa yes, fortunately/unfortunately its legal for them to ask you to use your FMLA for your appointments. Since they're being sticklers, I probably would just do it for them. They're going to tell you it's for your own job protection (which, legally, is what FMLA is). Otherwise your absences could be unprotected/unexcused (which would be shitty on their part but it's what I would worry about).
get this, guys. The last company I worked for had such a ridiculous STD policy. It would pay 60%...but after a 30 day unpaid waiting period. So for a vaginal delivery you would get 60% pay for about two weeks. Granted it was something but it's like...why even bother at that point? I had a super fun time explaining that to our employees. Don't take your anger out on the lowly HR employee
@bluejeanbabi05 Sorry if this was already said, I skimmed. If your STD drops to 70% after 6 weeks, I would assume you're only eligible for that if you're still considered medically disable after 6 weeks (typically 2 extra weeks for c-section). After that, you might have a hard time getting a health care provider to label you medically disabled in order to still be eligible for STD benefits. Keep that in mind.

@bluejeanbabi05 as long as you're on FMLA your benefits will continue like normal as long as you pay your normal portion (whether they are taking it out of your STD checks or you pay separately, each company is different so clarify if they're going to deduct for you or not. If they STD checks are coming from an insurance company versus your employer there's a good chance they're not taking deductions). If you take a longer leave than what you get under FMLA then you might be presented with options for COBRA coverage instead (FMLA protects your job and benefits...once you're not on FMLA or another state designated leave they're no longer obligated to continue benefits, though they might if they have a heart lol).
STD typically only pays out for the time you are considered disabled, and not necessarily the entire time you're on leave. So 6 weeks vaginal 8 weeks csection unless there are other medical complications. So that might help answer your question about how long you'll receive the 70% pay. But definitely clarify with your HR dept.
I don't really know what my maternity leave will look like. I've been having some stress thoughts about it.
We are also too small of a company to qualify for paid maternity leave. I could get FMLA but would rather not. We receive 2 weeks paid vacation time which I will use fully as maternity leave (no one keeps tabs on days missed) but I want to take anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks. My boss is a kind person and a family man. He is very forgiving with time and told me we'd play it by ear.
I'm the first pregnant worker here in at least 5 years and the first full time worker having a lo here. I am part of core team that keep this place running smoothly... so that alone brings me a lot of stress.
Here's my bfest: I have a "superior" here, she's also the one who blurted out my maternity news without permission. She happily volunteered to take up a lot of my job duties when I needed to go but calls me today saying she plans on now taking a sudden leave of absence in May for the entire month because she's emotional.
That freaks me the heck out! How can I rely on someone unreliable!
Anger toward US maternity coverage aside, my bitch fest this morning is dogs. My little dog peed on me this morning, then the big dog barfed on the floor. There are two giant dogs that live behind us and they knocked down part of the fence. DOGS.
DH told me about a convo he had with a colleague this morning, and it bothers me. I am tired of hearing how lucky we are that we succeeded with IVF the first time. His colleague was telling him that her friend had to try IVF several times before getting pregnant, so we should really count our blessings at how lucky we are. I heard this last week from one of the nurses as well. Look, we are so incredibly fortunate to not have to go through another round of IVF again, and I think about it a lot and often feel like I have cheated the system somehow. However, it irks the shit out of me when someone who hasn't gone through IVF, tells me how lucky I am. We went through so many years of trying, and so many surgeries just to get to a point where we could shell out $20k out of pocket, for a chance that is not guaranteed. So telling me I am so lucky really feels like a slap in the face. Shut the eff up DH's colleague, or I will drive to your office and throat punch you.

I woke up at the ass crack of dawn, fought through a migraine and got up to the hospital to take birth photos for my SIL during her csection. Her OB was aware of this, said it was fine by her, but it's up to the anesthesiologist. I figured since SIL works at this hospital, chances were high it would be fine. Not only did he say no, but the nurses pretty much confined me to the waiting room even though they are aware, from SIL's words, that I'm here to take pictures so she can see everything she's missing. BIL also told them this is fine for me to be back in the room taking pics and waiting for SIL to get back.
I think I'm mainly annoyed no one cares what she wanted me up here for and now she's disappointed she's not getting what she's been wanting. Also that the hospital she had a csection with her son is was no where this strict, I waited in her room literally the entire time
I gave BIL my camera and he did ok, but a lot are blurry and he, obviously, was preoccupied so he didn't get a lot of the ones she was wanting.
@bluejeanbabi05 I was excited since I do want to try my hand at birth photography. But I'm more upset that SIL and I went through and gathered ideas and she was really looking forward to these nice pics since she didn't have any with her first, except the couple I managed to get when he was in the nursery. So now I feel bad she's disappointed
@sjohns08 i'm so sorry! I also know how much you were looking forward to that. Very rude of the hospital, honestly. I'm positive this hasn't been the first time someone has photographed a c-section. It makes me worry that they weren't Kosher about procedures. I hope your SIL is doing well and at least can keep a few photos. Sorry love.
@sjohns08 that sucks for her and for you. But I remember my hospital that I had DD at was very strict on who could be in the room at the time of delivery. It's up to the hospitals, so each is different.
@carries2018 same.here...so bad. My skin had been oily, but not breaking out, so last week I decided to use an apricot scrub. The next day my skin was a pepperoni bagel bite, and it hasn't gone away since!
@sjohns08 I am so sorry you weren't able to take the pics! I was looking forward to your update on the experience, and this just sucks. I hope you are able to get some good ones afterwards.
@purplestars-2 oh man that sounds like such a rough start to the week! Is your pup sick, or was it just an awful luck thing?

@ChocolateIsLife he's a weird dog. He will sit there and drink water like he's dying of thirst and if I don't stop him in time he throws up the water everywhere. He's done this since he was a puppy. At least it's just water but it's annoying! We say he has a drinking problem.
@purplestars-2 lol yeah, he definitely sounds like a character! We have a dog that will take water from the bowl after eating dinner, and place it into the food bowls, to lick them extra clean. He goes to all 3 food bowls and it is such a weird process that he does after every meal. Dogs are weirdos.

Holy crap you guys. This weekend was brutal. I'm so so tired and the girls are home for spring break. They did awesome at their competition. DD1 won 1st runner up for Title!! Meaning she lost to one girl ( a teammate actually) to win a crown and "junior miss 'competition name' ". Some of the other teams were a wow. I lost my purse yesterday in the dressing room becuse, get this, I was setting up their costume rack, put my purse on a chair behind me, and another team put all of their stuff on top of it and MOVED the chair!! I was frantic ! Thank god for the Find IPhone app.
Today, besides being tired , isn't too bad. I took this kids to the park and everyone was pregnant. Like rreally showing or ready to pop pregnant. Here I am just looking spare tire-ish. With the amount of pregnant folks there today, I'm praying I'm not alone come late summer looking all pregnant and sweaty lol.
Oh one more thing to bitch about. I work in an open concept office and basically have to sneak coming on here every day on my phone so people don't see. Also, it's hard to not work when everyone is literally able to see you. I just want to chill with you guys all day, what's so wrong with that?
@carries2018 and @yenrec i have huge zits all over my back and my breasts (not on my face for now) . I feel like a teenager again and hate it!

B-fest. Old guy at the office. He is a retired partner, so he no longer has any authority or duties really, but in my profession, it is normal for guys to continue coming into the office for years and years after retirement. This guy comes in from 8-4:30 and prints out market information from crappy, ad-filled websites. But why do I hate him? He asks me (and every staff member below me) to do unbillable work for him, and is super picky and rude as to what we give him as work product. Did something in a way that he would not have? 2 hour lecture. He spent 6 weeks avoiding one half of our entire office building last year so that he did not bump into me. Because he was angry at me. For a really dumb reason.
Also, he says things like "I never speak to married women when their husbands are not present." Said multiple times to me while I was in a closed office with him. Very Mike Pence of him, but he was saying that sh*t long before it hit the news. For many many many other reasons, he is awful and I hate him. He is not the type of person you call out though, because he will make your life worse.

At least the pants are nice.

I used EdgePark and ordered mine online. You give them your insurance information and your doctor's info (so they can verify you are actually pregnant) and they let you know which ones are covered. 30 days before your due date you can order and they ship it to you. I've used them twice and it was awesome service.

I can't find the relevant comments, but thanks to the ladies who said the lower std percentage is usually a with medical note thing. My hr lady had told me otherwise, but I called the std company and that is 100% the case. So the hr lady is on my shit list right now and I'm back to only 6 weeks paid. I have three weeks vacation. So three weeks unpaid unless I go back to work. There's like one daycare here who takes babies under 3 months and I refuse to pick a daycare based on that.

@natleilynn I have zero idea how people could wait that long. While it is stressful initially to figure out the details, it calms me down to make a plan. Not to mention that the actual delivery will cost me $3000+. I would probably explode if I had procrastinated on all those details til 8 months and had to make last-minute plans as to where the money is coming from. Nope!
@bluejeanbabi05 I'm glad you called. It's always better to get the info straight from the source sometimes (or random internet strangers. I think we did pretty good).
I had a hospital grade Medela for the first month, which was covered by insurance thankfully. And it worked wonderfully. I had to exclusively pump because little one was unable to nurse well enough at the time, they wouldn't cover a second month because he was home from the hospital and I had to use the Ameda one that insurance gave me at that point, and it was terrible. Had I started out with that one, he would have been a formula baby, there is no way we would have made it through.
Also I am bitter because I don't get any paid time off other than through Aflac and now I need to go double check that I get 6 weeks at 60% and not 4... That will make me sad.

I'm glad I'm getting some validation on the Ameda front and that it wasn't just user error on my part. If that's what they make me use again, I think I'm going to end up being done once I get back from maternity leave. It wasn't worth the time or effort I put into it.

@natleilynn Most certainly not user error. I would pump for longer and still get less, ridiculous. Thought about just sucking it up and paying for a Medela this time around. I haven't decided though. I figure I could get the Ameda and then Craigslist it or something and at least have a couple dollars towards a decent one.
