Re: April FET

  • Happy Monday, ladies!

I'm popping into the discussion about how open (or not) the DH is about what's going on. Recently DH had an analysis scheduled and he needed to take his sample to the lab one morning. We live close enough to the hospital that he can collect at home. He called me in a panic to say that he had missed the cup! :D He wondered if he should collect what was spilled or if he should reschedule?! HAHAHAHA. Oh man. I told him I was pretty sure he was going to have to reschedule.

But what's funny to me is how open he is about it. He works as an estimator at a body shop, so it's almost all men, maybe two women work there. The shop out back (behind the office that the customers see) is like a locker room type environment - lots of trash talking, lots of inappropriate jokes, etc. Well, we've been at this a long time and at this point, DH is very open about what we are going through and talks about it freely - so he went right to work that day and told everybody about his misadventures in semen collection! He even told everybody he had brainstormed a better design for the collection cup. Too funny.

@stbollinger do you plan to POAS before beta? Hope you're doing well!

  • I'm really surprised my DH doesn't talk about it more he's a Correction Officer and they talk some dirty trash. Maybe he does just not in front of me. He also thinks its funny when guys come in to drop off their sample or when we are at retrieval. He says those guys are really shy about it. That's the first thing he mentions when I'm coming to from the anastasia. Everyone knows what your there to do dude lol.

  • @Knottie34543584 5dt yay that sounds really good youre having symptoms i wish you much baby dust so you can have a great outcome i dont know if i will be testing i have my test on sunday i go to my doctors office ao i think ill try to make it till then will you be testing early when is youre test at the clinic?
  • fivetimesnoluck tell him to patent that better collection cup and retire early! He can't be the only guy that's happened to!
I think DH doesn't talk to his friends about it bc none of his good friends have had any issues with IF, and I think he's still sensitive about being part of the reason we are in this process. At work (he's a restaurant manager) he's one of the bosses so talking to the employees would be weird for him, and he hasn't worked with these specific managers very long so they aren't really that close/no major banter going on. Then we have me who talks to strangers on an airplane ride about the process and spent 2 hours answering questions lol.

I had my US and blood work today, my lining is at about 12, nurse said that and  my blood work looked good, no changes in meds other than adding in the PIO as planned on Wednesday!  I haven't had any lining issues up to now, so I wasn't too worried about this visit, but then started to scare myself that I wasn't worried about it and then suddenly there would be a problem lol.  (yea I borrow trouble and tend to be a little on the glass half empty side of the equation, it helps keep my expectations in check I think).

  • @lamaricelita88 Thank you so so much I wish you the same!! Yay 5dt, I would've preferred to go a 5dt but because we only ended up with 3 fertilized they prefer to freeze them at 3. How exciting! Sunday will come around so quickly! I test next week, my clinic gives you a home pregnancy test and if it's positive you go and have a Beta. It feels like time is going to go so slow but really it goes quite quickly in hindsight X
  • @JuliaGoolia719 Holy cow your lining was a 12? Did you eat, drink or take anything to help that lining? I can never seem to get past a 7 but they never seem concerned because it's always a triple band.
@Knottie34543584 Oh wow they have you do an at home test prior to beta? No way I have the worst anxiety with an at home test I soo could not do that.

  • thucks I haven't done anything specific, when they looked at it before I started stims for ER back in Jan it was the same way (I think it was at 15 then, I'm hoping it will get there by Monday).  Lining hasn't ever been a concern they've raised for me, just my PCOS and weight and DH's MFI, I'm (maybe naively) hoping that its a good sign and that it will all go smoothly from here... it has to happen for someone right???

@thucks Yep!! 13dp 3dt. I was surprised when they gave me an at home pregnancy test, I thought it would be a Beta straight up. I thought the same as you initially, but I think I'd rather have my answer straight away rather than waiting on a phone call between breaks at work etc, and not knowing how you will react if the news isn't great. Such a roller coaster it is! How are you feeling?
  • @knottie34543584 I have the worse anxiety with POAS I just can't do it. It's bad I drive 45 min just to get blood drawn and wait 5 hrs to get a call. Some how I manage to keep my act together for the call. DH tried to get the call first once and that was too much for him. He couldn't stand to tell me the bad news. **TW** I never POAS when I had the twins either I just couldn't do it even though it was way obvious that that round of IVF worked.
I'm just chilling doing my estrogen patches drinking my POM juice and tea waiting for my check on Monday. I hate this part I don't feel like I'm doing anything unless I'm taking shots...

  • Thanks everybody I'll post an update tonight!

Together Let Us Seek the Heights

  • Omg guys I'm starting PIO shots tonight and I've never been this scared before! Idc about the stims they were fine but this...this is completely different and I'm so scared for it...anyone else scared for their PIO shots? Had anyone felt like they weren't as bad as they thought they would be? Or r they honestly just as horrible as expected?
  • Rachel_leigh22   I started mine this morning, and I am happy to report that it was painless.  Well ok I felt a small pinch but it was less than getting blood drawn so I'm calling it a win.  I could feel the oil going in but it didn't hurt per say.  I laid down on the bed and my aunt did the shot for me (I'm on a family vacation and DH had to leave yesterday to get back to work so he isn't here to do them).  I think laying down and not having any tenseness in the muscle is what helped.  I did put the oil in my bra for about 10 min before to kind of warm it up, not sure if it helped or not but it didn't hurt!

Now, I can totally see how after several days of doing shots in the same area that this will likely get worse (I know switching sides but still, the circle the nurse drew for me the other day is not a large area), but for now I'm holding onto the fact that it didn't hurt lol.

Together Let Us Seek the Heights

  • @Rachel_leigh22 I was very nervous before starting PIO for the first time! The needle size freaked me out. The worst part for me was not the injection itself, but the soreness afterwards and even that I could deal it. The injections mostly didn't hurt. At the end of the day, it's worth it and I'll do it again. One really helpful thing for me was that the nurse drew circles for the injection sites. And use heat on the spot after!!

  • @Rachel_leigh22 I'm on round 5 and I still get the jitters the first time I do my PIO. It will be OK. I warm my oil up like Julia and massage the area with some heat when it's done. If standing keep all your weight on the opposite side. You got this like Hoping10 said it's all worth it in the end.

  • I need to vent for a sec- the RE I see is part of a big practice based in the city. I go to a satellite office close to my house for monitoring. So because it's small, there's only 1 blood tech and it's always the same woman. But, for the past 3 times, it's been a different woman. This new woman has had issues getting blood out of my vein every single time. Last Thursday, she was training with the old person and she stuck me with the needle, and no blood came out, so the old person stepped in, adjusted the needle and got the blood. On Monday, it was only the new woman and she stuck me 2x, once in each arm and finally got it. Today, she stuck me twice in the same arm and got no blood. Then she was like the only other choice is your hand (by my other arm is still so sore!!). I freaked out, but let her do it and it worked. But getting stuck 3x is ridiculous!!! Especially when I have never in my life had an issue with blood drawing!! I am so upset, I plan on talking to my RE about this tmrw bc I won't let her touch me with a needle again..

Side note: my hcg levels finally came down to normal, so I started bc pills today and saline ultrasound is tmrw.

  • Hello everyone, I figure I should finally join this board.  I had my egg retrieval on April 1, and was planning on a Fresh transfer but my progesterone levels were too high.  I was able to freeze 14 eggs (did not do any testing, as Drs never mentioned it at all)- I got AF on Saturday.. so now just priming for the FET!  I am on estrace, Azithromycin, and aspirin until next Tuesday when I will go back for a lining check & bloodwork.  The nurse said at that point if my lining is good they will schedule the FET for the next week!  I feel like we may be finally getting somewhere, so exciting!  Now I just have to decide how many embryos to transfer.  I am 32 so my doctor said they typically only recommend 1.. but I am really leaning towards 2, as I feel I would be fine with twins and have always dreamed of having 3 children.. if I have twins the fewer times I have to go through all of this!  Haha.. what are your plans for how many to transfer?
  • edited April 2017
@stbollinger congrats im soo happy for you can i ask you did you test in the morning or afternoon?
@Knottie34543584 i think the poas is way better you dont have to wait what day of next week will you be testing
  • Ok I just did my PIO shot and I literally felt nothing!! I'm so happy hahaha thank you guys
  • @kiwisun4385 we only had 1 to freeze so are transferring that 1 on Monday
  • kiwisun4385 we're transferring one, but we knew we were doing a freeze all cycle and decided to PGS test. We only have 2 total that made it to day 5 luckily they both came back normal with testing.

  • @kiwisun4385 we're also transferring one. We did PGS testing and so it'll be a normal one.

  • Hoping10  is there anyone to talk to there about the multiple sticks? Getting blood drawn is not pleasant in general and what you described would make me consider driving to another lab (like lab corp) to have them draw it and send it over.  (I have a needle aversion, so this process in general is less than awesome for me on a daily basis thanks shots in my bum and stomach....)

Together Let Us Seek the Heights

  • @JuliaGoolia719 I plan on talking to my RE today about it. I also have a needle aversion so now the anxiety that this woman's blood drawing has created isn't ok. I'll see what alternatives they give me..

On March 1st I had a Hysteroscopy/laparoscopy and he messed with my lining and cleaned me all up so I'm hoping that by doing that it will allow me to have 1 attach. We have been thawing 2 and deciding minutes before transferring how many to do. Round #4 we transferred 2 and had a CP. I have 1 5d and 3 6d's left so we are just going to go with the last 5d.

  • so how long after starting the PIO shots did you guys start to notice the side effects (sore boobs etc)?

Together Let Us Seek the Heights

  • @lamaricelita88 Yes I agree :) I must admit I have done a few tests since I last posted haha.. Negative of course, even if I was pg it would be far too early! I have had some interesting "spotting" today though. How are you?
  • @JuliaGoolia719 I am not on the progesterone injections, I am on the pessaries, but I had increasing side effects as the days went on. I would say after about 3 days they were quite evident X
  • @JuliaGoolia719 The PIO made me tired pretty quickly. Other than that, the other side effects came after transfer (such a mind game!!). My boobs got sore, I was bloated, some cramps, I even spotted around the time that could have been implantation..

She also said my slightly elevated hcg levels indicate that the embryo implanted late and it was chemical pregnancy. At least something happened!!

  • @hoping10 in 2012 we did a Hysteroscopy/laparoscopy to remove a polyp and check for endometriosis. On March 1st we did the same thing but just to remove the Endometriosis and disturb my linning. My RE said no FET in March because of timing and healing. I was on BCP and stopped the day after surgery. He wanted me to fully heal before starting meds and stuff for a FET.
