Question: on an old BMB that I was a part of we did a "Fur Baby Friday" and all posted pics/stories about our crazy pets... would that be something there is an interest for? We have a lot of pets and I love seeing other people's silly animals!
@cmessamore I would love to look at pictures of everybody's pets.
On a slightly related topic I went to my friends house today and her cat was being so strange and I kept telling her it's because I'm pregnant but she doesn't believe me. This cat will usually come say hi when I walk in but then go in the other room while we are hanging out. Today Larry sat and stared at me the ENTIRE time I was there.
Also, juat something I heard a long time ago that stuck with me for whatever reason. " a pregnant woman swimming is essentially a human submarine" . I went swimming today and felt like a really important submarine the whole time.
OMG, I've just gotten my first piece of Really Bad Unsolicited Pregnancy Advice. Can we make this a thread??? Because HOLY COW. I bet we all get some doozies.
I mentioned elsewhere on TB that I just posted our pregnancy announcement on my FB and I've really been enjoying the enthusiastic response from family and friends. I got a comment from a very good friend joking "no more drinks for you! " because my husband and I bought an 18th century house and converted half of the downstairs into a tavern complete with a bar and we have periodic tavern parties. I wrote back that it was okay because the thought of alcohol makes me feel sick to my stomach anyway.
Cue bad pregnancy advice! A GUY (you knew it was gonna be a guy, right? it's always a guy) who is not only several years younger than I am but also a guy and also NOT a doctor pops in to say "I think a small glass of red wine would be ok."
I am in no way throwing shade upon cultures where occasional drinking during pregnancy is still the norm, nor am I shaming women who still have a drink now and then during their own pregnancies. That's an individual choice. But to just actually suggest it?? With no medical knowledge or experience, just a gut feeling that it's "probably" okay? Also, it's not as though I expressed a desire to drink! In fact, quite the opposite! Thinking of alcohol still makes my stomach feel like a lake of boiling acid.
I responded very politely that my doctor disagreed and since neither I nor the baby need alcohol to live, to me, it's a needless risk.

@DuchessOfCambridge i think around that time they start kicking tiny hands and feet.... they must sleep though, right? Like everything sleeps doesn't it ? Gah that's gonna drive me crazy!
My friend told me last night she might pick up DS and take him to Universal Studios today. I texted her an hour ago asking if they were still going and she hasn't responded. I'm pouting because I was SUPER stoked about the idea of catching up on my DVR in bed for most of the afternoon and having an exhausted kid returned to me ready for bed.
I totally put on a nursing bra today, my regular bras are uncomfortable (all push up since I am normally a small B cup) and it's so comfy I don't even care.

I NEED to dig out my nursing bras. This wire is killing me.
@jess0211 I totally need comfier bras. I'm normally a 32DDD but my regular lightly lined, non padded bras hurt. Mostly because the band is slightly too small. I ordered a 34DDD but it was a different brand and cheaper and feels icky on, like the material is bad. And I haven't quite grown enough to fill that larger cup size. Cue in my pushup bras, which I have to buy in a 34DD and they fit great but I hate the pushup look all the time because I really don't need it. My work shirts weren't designed for pushed up pregnant boobs haha.
So my OBs office gave me a bunch of paperwork to read and one of them was about nausea and one of the bullets said if you are experiencing more nausea than your first pregnancies or nausea all day in general you may be carrying a female fetus. Hmmm I thought that was just old wives tale? Did not expect to see this in official paperwork from the OB. Very interesting. Anyone else got something like this from the OB?
@ShePersisted I also would have classified this as wives tale. That's so strange... maybe there's some medical proof to it?
I'm pretty sure there is some proof to this one. Due to females having more (or just stronger? Idk!) hormones. Obviously not 100% accurate since everyone and every preganancy is different. My doctor told me more nausea usually equals girl as well.
@bcashaw I'm avoiding google as frankly it does not matter but yeah I was a little surprised. Also I have no recollection of how bad nausea was with my first to compare - strange as it sounds I only remember I had nausea but not the degree. Funny how you can forget some key things.
@bcashaw I was terribly sick with both of my girls and I'm even more sick this time. Like constantly feel like death. I won't be surprised if it's twin girls this time around.
I was terribly sick with my first, and almost no symptoms with my second (which made me think it must be a boy bc of the old wives tale). Both were girls though.
@ShePersisted I've heard that as well but not from an official standpoint such as an ob. I'm surprised and kinda excited they gave you a paper that said that. Totally thought it was a myth. I'm having awful nausea this time around and didn't with DS so I'm suspecting a girl as well based on the old wives tale.
With my first two, I had some nausea, but hardly any vomiting. Both boys. With my third, I vomited all day, every day, well past the first tri. Another boy. With this one, I've had nausea with sporadic vomiting, guess we'll see what happens!
Well after officially throwing up at 4 am this morning I can start to tell myself it's a girl lol. That never happened with my first who was a boy! Good thing is I will know as early as next week as I got take my M21 testing which reveals gender.
@jess0211 I agree with @bcashaw, I guess it depends on how often they are going to be in your house/around your LO the level of honesty you need to have. If they are going to be around a lot I would tell them you are not ready for stuff. If they are just someone who you casually see, take the stuff and give it away to those in need.
@jess0211 You can also stall. Say you want to get baby's room ready, doing renovations, etc.
FWIW, I'm taking all the things. I'll decide what to keep later, especially if it does turn out that we have twins! I'd rather save money for vacations, college, and a bigger house than clothes it / they'll wear a couple of times.
Re: sex and sickness... I am convinced this is a boy and my last pregnancy was a girl simply because of how bad I felt last time and how not nauseous I feel now. I think the increased estrogen from girls is what makes the difference.
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
@jess0211 As a FTM, I never turned anything down, because I figured, you never know! We ended up using probably 90% of the loads of used stuff I was given. A higher percentage than I expected for sure.
Thanks ladies! I just have some friends trying to give me things from 10+ years ago (ie strollers) and I worry about the safety and condition of items that old. I am definitely taking advantage of the things from my friends who have had kids more recently.
@jess0211 I'm fairly particular so I'd probably stall and say something like "I need to take stock of everything I need" or in terms of a stroller I'd say my mom is dying to buy me a new one or something.
Everyone keeps telling me this one is a girl because of how nauseous I've been and it makes me want to punch them. I would love nothing more than having a daughter. My mom is one of my best friends and I've always imagined having that relationship with my own daughter as well. So I feel like everyone is getting my hopes up and I don't want any sort of disappointment if it's a boy. And logically I shouldn't have any because DS is awesome and I'd love to give him a brother.
@jess0211 we took all the things, but yeah a 10yo stroller can be a PITA so maybe use what someone else said about someone already calling dibs on buying you one

Guys, do babies at 7/8 weeks old sleep? Like are they beings that can be awake/asleep yet? Just wondering what itty bitty is doing in there.

No one knows, apparently! But some research on sheep suggests that "sleep" or a sleep-like state, may start earlier than previously thought.
