Re: April IVF

  • Thanks, @artemis618.  I was on the long lupron protcol, and after reading more the agonist seems to be the right fit (just based on reading). The nurse did mention microdose lupron over the phone, so I'm guess that is where the RE is leaning.  Just hoping now I can  get in next month, and not be put back on the IVF waitlist (drawback of a small clinic, I guess).

@mmd1986- sorry to hear your cycle was cancelled. My first cycle was cancelled as well for poor response. All my details are in my siggy, but the third protocol I tried was the magic one for me (estrogen priming and then antagonist). We almost quit after the first 2 cycles went so badly, but then got 12 eggs with the third try, so the protocol can make ALL the difference!

@MMD1986 I'm so sorry to hear about your cycle not going forward. I'm hoping they can find a different protocol that will work for you.

For everyone starting stims today, thinking of you, put on your "badass" hats and let us know how it goes! I keep looking at my calendar thinking in two weeks from now I will have had my ER and I don't start stims til Monday morning! One day at a time. Sending positive thoughts.
  • @MMD1986 I'm sorry to hear that. Infertility is so frustrating. Keep us posted on your appointment with your doctor.

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake I start follistim, hcg and letrozole tonight. I'll do all in the evening so hubby can help. I'll keep providing details as I progress. Do the same
  • @nim congrats on egg retrieval! I'll pray you have good results
  • @nim Sounds like a successful retrieval!  Hope you are feeling well today..

As for me, I got official word that I had 14 embryos frozen.. now just waiting for AF to show up so we can get started!  They told me it would be a few days after retrieval, but tomorrow will be a week now.. getting impatient :)
  • nim81nim81 member
@kiwisun4385 Thank you! I'm still having cramps and feel bloated and hope that is normal lol. How did you feel after retrieval? Wow 14 embryos frozen, congratulations!!
  • @Nim I believe that is pretty normal.. The day of transfer I was in quite a bit of pain.  The 2nd day was a lot better, and every day from there on seemed a bit better.  Just when I feel back to normal, I get a tiny bit of pain.. but nothing crazy.  That is usually my sign that I overdid it that day.. so make sure you take it easy, even when you're feeling good.  Other than that, I feel almost back to normal, with just a little bloating still.  In a few days you will feel a whole lot better if your experience was like mine!
  • congrats @nim!  Those are great numbers.

@kiwisun4385 those are great numbers too!

@artemis618 Can you help me understand timing of the trigger and response? What happens when you trigger and retrieve eggs too late?

Also, @cmiller73 what do you mean by dual trigger and what is it supposed to help with?

About 75% of my follicles were above 20 today. Not sure what my estrogen level was but they had me do leuprolide 8mg and hcg 2500U tonight for my trigger.

Edit: Okay I just read through this https://www.advancedfertility.com/lupron-trigger-prevent-hyperstimulation.htm and I think I kind of get the alternate trigger protocol now.

    @Aera11 thank you!!

My husband just gave me the progesterone shot tonight and so far not too bad. I don't think I could do it on my own. That needle is so long lol. Anyone else doing progesterone shot too?
  • So nice to have so many cycle buddies.  I was supposed to start stims today, but after voicing a concern about OHSS, my doctor pushed back the stim schedule by a day.  Now I'm doing 2x175 IU per day for two days starting Saturday and then go into the clinic on Monday for blood draw before deciding on the next dose.

@MMD1986- I'm sorry your cycle was cancelled.

@Nim- 10 fertilized is great.  Hope most, if not all make it to blast.

    @kiwisun4385- 14 embryos, wow, congratulations!

  • @wanderlust14 dual trigger would be a smaller IM shot of HcG and a subQ shot of lupron. Protects for the possibility of a fresh transfer, but also since I lost about half of my eggs  before ER (25 follicles but only 13 retrieved) they think the hcg will help maintain them a bit longer.  I guess sometimes with lupron only that can happen? Eh, we shall see... :)

Thanks @brooklyngirl18 and @aera11! My doctor decided to cancel my cycle because of the lack of response and low estrogen levels.  We have an appointment scheduled with him on 4/28 to discuss the cycle and how I responded.  He'll also go over a different protocol to try and go over what he thinks our chances of success are, as he can't promise I'll respond to a different protocol.  Sucks, but it is what it is I guess.  Just hoping he doesn't think our chances are too low to continue in the future.

Good luck to all you ladies this cycle! Fingers crossed for you all.

Sounds exactly like what we went through...My next appointment is scheduled for April 13. The doctor said we will discuss options but one thing he mentioned that maybe to start with increasing estrogen first before anything else. I'm a pessimist to start and turning 40 July so a little scared that I can not even produce anymore eggs to even try. But like everyone has told me, it only takes ONE! Good luck to you and please keep us posted.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words....I took a few days off from the site because I've been so upset, but need this to help us have hope and stop googling "mature ovarian reserve success."

Don't know if I'm in the right post to ask, but one thing I noticed when we started stimming was that my hands and legs have gotten super swollen every morning, to the point that it's painful to move my arms and legs until after a few hours...Four days after the last injections and still having stiff/swollen joints. How long does it take for these meds to exit the system?

Sorry for the canceled cycle, @MMD1986 - it sucks, I'm sure. Hopeful that you can get a plan for moving forward next cycle!

Congrats on such great retrievals, @kiwisun4385 and @Nim!

Good luck today, @artemis618! Let us know how it goes.

@immiet - I have not had any expereince with swelling while stimming (which I did for my IUIs and TI cycles last year). May be worth mentioning to the nurse.

As for me, I got an unexpected surprise this week. I called to order my Progesterone in Oil and I have never had any of my fertility meds covered by insurance, so I told them not to even worry about running it through. Well, they did anyway - and it is covered! Don't know why/how when it's same policy as before, but I'll take it! Instead of $100 per order, it's $10!

ETA: Glad you didn't have a hard time with it, @Nim. I have heard bad things. Thankfully my SIL is a surgical tech and lives down the street, so I have her administer all my shots. Still not looking forward to this one though.

Thanks. It wasn't  bad when my husband injected but now the area is sore. Hard to sleep last night lol.
  • HI ladies!  Nice and sad to see a few familiar names...I was hesitant to join and first wanted to wait till my RE called and gave me the go ahead to actually start stemming tonight.  Seems like a few of us are in the same boat so I thought I would join the party.   @mjpbarretto @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake @cashewchicken  @brooklyngirl18  I'm doing EPP but since my last ER was 3/26 I didn't get a week of estrogen priming in before AF, literally got one day in so i'm nervous already.  My Estrogen hasn't really been a problem but this protocol seems to work well for ladies with low amh.

(TW) This is IVF#5 as I'm trying to bank some embryos in hopes of having more then one child and just turned 41 with low AMH.  I'm nervous as I'm doing PGS and an FET.  IVF#3 (ER 3, 3 fert, 3DT, BFP with twins, MC at 10wks in Jan)  Its because of this that my RE and OH want to do the PGS, I really just wanted to do another fresh transfer.  (I know for fact that Baby B tested normal, so I'm thankful I can produce normal eggs.  Baby A got lost so we don't know even though I still think it was me as my US the morning of the mC both babies we perfect and doing great)  As you can see I'm in a rush to get pregnant again, it was thrilling after so long to actually see this could work.  I think knowing cycles can be so unpredictable I find that I am anxious and nervous before each check up to know everything is moving in the right direction.

cmiller73 hey hey made the leap ;)  I have to say I'm having concerns and I'm just getting started.  You didn't have as much prming this cycle as last one?  DO you think it will make a difference?

I tried to catch up with the board so hopefully i'm not confusing ppl so you'll have to forgive me.

kiwisun4385 whoa thats a super report, did they tell you the grades?  Are you doing any testing?  I hope you're stoked thats amazing!

@nim congrats on a super report!  Grow embabies grow!!

@mmd1986 sorry for the cancelled cycle, u can't convert it to IUI?  Hoping a different protocol will have better success for you!

Momifbysea u have an amazing amh good for you!!  I just turned 41 and have a Low AMh of .3 after 6 months of vitamins it tested .4 big jump, ha!  I was just glad it didn't go down!  Those are indeed great numbers, good for u!!

KLake42 I wish the summary was on the screen after my scanning, I always have to ask when they call with the follow up from the RE with directions for the night on what my results were.  One tech I've become friendly with actually is nice enough to right them down for me.

@immiet I'm sorry thats very disappointing! sending u hugs!  Did your RE have a reason for u?

fivetimesnoluck hey!  glad to see you here and wish you all the best!

  • @Hopeful_mom Hey hey :) I can't say if I will have more or less. The way my RE explained it, I guess I'm more of down regging: quieting the ovaries until the next AF comes. I started patches on Thursday and so far have done 2 patches and 2 Cetro shots.  Tomorrow is shot #3 and last cycle, the night of #3 was when AF came.  So we shall see. I hope it is about the same, since then the timing will be better to have DH with me for the ER at the end of the month. It sounds like you didn't do a prime cycle and you just went right into stims? Or started priming and then AF came? I can *feel* her knocking she just hasn't arrived yet.  FX in the next few days she shows up and I can head to baseline on CD2 and start stimming that night!

It is kinda crazy how the meds catch up to you, though.  I work in retail and am running around for 10-12 hours straight every day (I get my steps in for sure), lifting and moving things around, etc.  Can't move as fast or even lift as much without getting winded... DH thinks I'm milking it, but I seriously am exhausted and end up panting after a brisk walk up the stairs ;)
  • Hopeful_mom hi there! welcome to the club! lol
i started meds last night which was nerve-wracking to say the least. SO and I actually got into a big argument in the middle of it so almost positive we didn't do it correctly. Idk. Not trying to stress and just do it correctly tonight.
All of this is just so straining on our relationship. I think we may have to see a therapist to help us communicate. it's been tough. which makes me sad. hopefully i'll have better news to report soon. good luck everyone!
  • @MMD1986 I'm so sorry for your cancelled cycle and wasted meds. That's tough.

That's an awesome frozen . are you doing PGS @kiwisun4385
  • Hi @Hopeful_mom welcome!  I got through my first set of injections last night (Friday). I have follistim, hcg and letrozole pills. Do you take your injections in the evening too?

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake @cashewchicken @brooklyngirl18 how are you doing with your shots?
  • @artemis618 !!! :) FX for some great FERT! :) Happy to hear it went well and hope your recovery is quick!
  • mjpbarretto  thanks!  Yes i'm doing meds in the late night, 300 gonalf, 300 metpur (4 powders) thats the one that stings the most for me!

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake sorry u had a rough night, this is a very hard process and can be hard on all relationships.  I argue with OH all the time about transferring 2 AND he doesn't get the hormone mess of these shots at all.  Communication is key some help couldnt hurt.  Hope you're having a better night.

cmiller73 i definitely didn't get to prime as i would've liked, but I am wearing the patch so we shall see if it can still do me some good.  I don't want to lose a cycle so we shall start and see where it takes me.  I hear u on the exhaustion, i feel like i can never get enough sleep!

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake- I'm sorry that your first day of injections didn't go smoothly.  My husband and I bickered a lot when we first started this IVF journey, too.  Hope it'll get better.  It did for us.  By the third cycle, injections, unfortunately, aren't that big deal anymore.

  • @Artemis0685 wow that's a great number, so happy for you!

@brooklyngirl18 how did your first injections go?

Thinking if all of you stimming now, I get to join you tomorrow morning. They have me doing Follistim in morning and Menopur in evening. Timing will be challenging because they told me timing is critical that they must be 12 hours apart so we are planning 7am and 7pm. **TW** a big challenge will be that we don't want our 3yo to see this so morning's should be cool, she sleeps til at least 7 usually, and evenings I'm planning to make this a special "water week" where she can play in the tub every night while we do the Menopur. Otherwise she'd be pushing into us like a raging bull and with needles involved I don't want to go there! ** end TW**

@Hopeful_mom welcome! I'm excited for your new cycle and the hope it brings with it. Good luck!

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake I hear you on this. Communication can be rough with all this stress. Maybe talking with someone can help. We've definitely had our moments. It sure changes sex, now it's about timing for opks, timing for samples for DH, hormones in a mess with all these drugs, the financial piece of this, etc. Just a lot of stress. I think everyone here can relate to that. I hope you can find a way that helps you guys.
  • Okay, DH was like a pro doing the first injection this morning! My needle phobia was in full force (as in, I was trembling afterwards and all sweaty) but I feel so good right now having that first one done. We can do this! Happy to finally join the stim group! :)
  • @Momifbysea Yay for you!  You survived your first injection!  The rest will be less scary, since you got through this one!

Congrats on a great retrieval, @artemis618!

I am slowly but steadily getting ready for my thaw and fertilization - that should happen on April 20, with transfer <hopefully> taking place five days later. Instead of going through the typical stims, I am just priming for the transfer: estrace and baby aspirin, with doxycycline, medrol and PIO added in later.

I have a feeling that this week is going to crawl by.

    @artemis618 yayyyy that's great news!!

afm- I've done 3 nights of injections and they aren't bad at all. I had an appointment this morning, I think I have 20-25 follicles all under 10. I'm on a small dose due to my high AMH/pcos, the dr said he wants to see how I do over the next few days before thinking about raising the dosage. I'd much rather go slow and steady to avoid ohss than ramp up the dosage to speed things along. I go again wednesday and friday so we'll see how things look then. the only side effects i noticed were hip pain ( i think from menopur) and headaches (i think from lupron) but overall it's really not as scary as I thought.

    Due Feb 15, 2017
  • So I started my cycle yesterday afternoon, and went in for my suppression check today ( I did not do BCP first). They said my uterine lining was still really thick and seem concerned about it. My nurse called this afternoon and said they are hoping I have a lot of bleeding today and tomorrow, but will keep an eye on my endometrial lining at each monitoring appointment.

Anyone else had this happen? I'm a newbie, so I'm not sure how bad this is.

    1st cycle of IVF started April 9, 2017. ER- 15R, 7M, 5F, 4 frozen, 1 transferred. BFN

    May 2017- Hysteroscopy

June-August 2017- 2nd attempt via FET. 2 Embryos transferred on 08/10/17. BFP, but ended in a chemical.

    November 2017- Hysteroscopy

    January 2018- 3rd attempt via FET. 2 Embryos transferred on 01/25/18. BOLD BFP on a HPT on 1/31, Beta # 1 on 2/5= 721. Beta # 2 on 2/7- 1903. 6wk+3 day scan revealed twins!

    I'm blogging about it here

  • @KLake42 So exciting, and I'm so happy for you!  I was extremely emotional 2 days before my retrieval.. I'm not typically an emotional person, but I cried my eyes out that day (luckily it was my day off from work!)  Then the next day at work, I was telling my co-worker about how crazy I had been the day before (*TW, she is pregnant with twins*) Next thing I know we were both crying together.. lol.  Hormones sure do crazy things!

AFM, I had my egg retrieval April 1 (seems like it was ages ago already!) and I had been told that I had 14 eggs frozen.   I just found out the grading of them.  I had 2 (5AA); 2 (5BB); 4 (4AA); 3 (3AA); 1 (4CB), 1 (4CC), 1 (3CC).  I started AF on Saturday, so I go tomorrow for a baseline check.  I will then start meds and from here just have to go back in a week to see how my lining looks - then possibly a transfer 1 week later!  Sounds like my transfer will be either the last week of April or first week of May! I'm getting excited!  My question is - I am 32, I was told that they typically suggest only transferring 1 embryo, but I am leaning towards transferring 2.  (I would be OK with twins if that happened).  How many embryos do you all plan on transferring?

    @Hopeful_mom & @fivetimesnoluck Thanks!
@artemis618 Congrats and that is great news!
@KLake42That's great and good luck with ER!

    Just an update:
Day 3 sun: 4 (10 cells, 2good, 2fair), 4 (8 cells and all good). The other 2 I couldn't remember exactly what cells they are in but he said both good.
    Day 4 mon: no update
Day 5 tue: I have my ET tomorrow and I think I will find out the updates on how many I end up with out of 10 fertilized.
@kiwisun4385 I plan on having only one embryo transferred.
