@cashewchicken - i had no idea insurance may limit the # of u/s so i'll ask for sure. Thanks! Enjoy your time off! Did you take time off on FMLA or just regular PTO days? I'm afraid I'll be maxing out soon too because of all of this...and i have 14 days per year so that's saying a lot!
@brooklyngirl18 - 35?!? WOW! I BET you are uncomfortable with that many - hope you feel better with lower dose. I was told I will probably trigger on Monday too! so awesome
@shaykay9 - welcome to the group! you're in good company so encouraging to hear your 1st IVF was successful; thanks for sharing!
AFM, results from my appt this morning:
L - 14 measuring from 8-17.4 mm
R - 14 measuring from 9-15 mm
Endo Thickness-10.1
Estradiol: 1736.0
Protocol: Gonal F 300 IU + Menopur 75 IU + Cetrotide 0.25mg + Dexamethasone 0.25mg
Going back tomorrow morning for same song and dance
Just came back from my monitoring visit this morning- 12 follicles total but all pretty small, and my Estradiol was low ( I think she said 76?). Doubling up my dose of menopur starting tonight and upping Gonal-F from 225 to 300. I will start Cetrotide on Monday.
I'm a little scared
1st cycle of IVF started April 9, 2017. ER- 15R, 7M, 5F, 4 frozen, 1 transferred. BFN
May 2017- Hysteroscopy
June-August 2017- 2nd attempt via FET. 2 Embryos transferred on 08/10/17. BFP, but ended in a chemical.
November 2017- Hysteroscopy
January 2018- 3rd attempt via FET. 2 Embryos transferred on 01/25/18. BOLD BFP on a HPT on 1/31, Beta # 1 on 2/5= 721. Beta # 2 on 2/7- 1903. 6wk+3 day scan revealed twins!
shaykay9 you're levels still look good i doubt you're RE was concerned. They say as long as your fsh is under 10 and amh over 1 you're good to go, good luck.
Ash_SE protocol is the antagonist I did get a normal embryo from it so we assumed it wouldve done the same again.
Momifbysea those r good numbers congrats. good luck with your ER.
brooklyngirl18 great numbers! sorry you're feeling such discomfort. I can't imagine as I was feeling discomfort with just 10. You have almost quadruple what I had i can't even imagine your pain. You're getting close so thats good!
@artemis618 thanks for the words of encouragement I hear them but I just feel defeated. Hoping you get some good news today!
@cashewchicken, enjoy your time. Funny this past cycle i had off from work and the cycle i had my normal embryo I was working like crazy and stressed...go figure. How was monitoring today?
Thanks for all the love and input, I'm still moving forward with this cycle but I'm not sure how many more cycles I have left in me. My OH called this the million dollar baby. I'm going to use up all my funds I had to support them in just trying to have them. Here's my issue with the testing, embryos divide and grow better in the uterus SO if I did a 3dt maybe i wouldve had that normal embryo again...maybe thats why i had the normal embryo last cycle. Apparently my eggs are acting older then my age so its just making this process even more frustrating! I feel terrible for the ladies that have been in this position. In just coming off MC twins I feel lve been tortured enough and the hits just keep on coming. I never thought I wouldnt be a mom and now i just dont know. So far I maybe have 5 follies around the same and 3 much smaller so its less then last cycle but the fact that last cycle is officially not a success not sure what to hope for anymore. I had 2 different techs do the measuring so who knows if some disappeared or not. My Estrogen doubled which they wanted to see so hopefully it keeps doing that.

@Hopeful_mom I am so sorry for the bad news. That sucks. Take some time to process and hopefully your RE can help you determine how to best move forward. There are still options! But I also know how cruel it is to not be able to proceed how you had planned. I am wishing you all the best.

Just heard from our RE - four blasts were tested and frozen today (day 6). So we've graduated to the next phase of waiting - but today I feel refreshingly average with 50% of our fertilized/embryos having made it to blast (eventually). I'll take (and celebrate) it.

As for me, they did my first lining check today and even though they
said all looked great, (lining just over 8 and estradiol at 105) they
are going to push back a week. So, now our plan is to have the thaw and
fertilization on April 26 and have the transfer on May 1. Keeping my
chin up and excited to have dates on paper!
@brooklyngirl18 Good luck with all those follies! WOW! Hopeful that you have a great ER. @artemis618 Hooray for 4 embabies! Welcome to the thread, @shaykay9! Good luck! @Hopeful_mom First things first - we won't know for up to a week if we'll even have anything to transfer from this cycle. I'm inclined to do another cycle either way given the numbers game as it's kind of a time limited thing (and egg quality doesn't generally improve with age) and I got nothing from my first one. The annoying thing is that my insurance plan requires a transfer within 90 days of the second egg retrieval (it only covers two) - assuming you get something to transfer from the two cycles. I'm not sure how strict this is or how they even enforce it (having already made payments for the first cycle), but the timing might not work out since we want to go to my old RE (the guy who froze my eggs) and if he wants new blood work, etc from his own lab, and then priming and suppression, cycle and hopefully more pgs testing... I've requested an extension on this, but I'd still be inclined to do another cycle which would be mostly OOP anyway. We're talking to the new (old?) RE next week about thawing and inseminating my few eggs from 2012 as well - had hoped not to touch them just yet, but it may make sense at this point. Sorry I ended up sort of thinking "outloud" there (and now I'm wondering if I reimburse the insurance company for the first cycle if they'd give me coverage for the third one and consider it their second...but I don't have a very good understanding of how all this works).
Fingers crossed for quality this cycle! Cycles can definitely have different results even with the same protocol. Of course we all want both quality and quantity (ha - reminds me of diamonds ), but between the two, quality is clearly what matters more (in this case . Just the other night, DH was wondering if we'd ever catch a break. I have faith that we will and that you will too!
@fivetimesnoluck How very exciting to have dates - you're getting so close!

artemis618 It makes me feel bad and comforted at the same time that you truly do understand! I hate that money plays a role but being OOP makes it sting just that much more. Even the cycle that was converted to an IUI it still gave u a lil hope for a lil while longer. I hate that I wasted so much time on IUI's as my eggs were about a year younger which sux more. My RE a while back told me to go for a 2nd opinion as I guess I had too many questions for her...but she still technically got me my first ever BFP! You did make me chuckle as i thought about the diamond comparison myself! I've had enough disappointment to last a lifetime its hard to keep positive, OH is much better at it but also very cold about it too. It happened, its done lets move on. He already has kids so as much as it matters to him it doesn't. He's older and is fine if I use donor sperm if they think that was the issue. Its hard cause they say its probably my eggs unfortunately BUT what if thats not the case. I hate that everything is a gamble. The RE can only advise, I'm sure if i want to do another cycle, its my money what are they really going to say no. This is cycle 5, how many do u keep doing. I'll just have to see what this cycle will bring. This past cycle I didn't do acupuncture and got more eggs, as opposed to last cycle i did acupuncture and got less eggs but did have a normal embryo. UGH!! I did manage to go to acupuncture yesterday by coincidence but that time consuming and expensive too, OH and not my fav.
Its exciting that you have other eggs waiting that you could use, its awesome! Technically you can get those going when ever you want. Are you switching clinics altogether? The cost should be less too so thats a bonus. Call your insurance and hopefully you can find someone educated that knows what theyre talking about! You have great questions so i would try to get it answered. Ask the billing dept in ur clinic too...sometimes they can help on which way would save you more.

@Hopeful_mom I'm so sorry your good embryos turned out to be abnormal I find it quite frustrating that human reproduction is so inefficient. Fingers crossed for your current follicles!
@Artemis0685 So happy to hear you got your blasts!!!
@brooklyngirl18 Hang in there...not much longer! (How is it that those teeny tiny eggs can make one feel so full?!)
We had our embryo transfer today! We transferred 2 - one 5AA and one 3AA. We only had one more blast ready...the rest are slowy trucking along so hopefully Monday I hear from them about how many more made it to be frozen.
I'm so sorry to hear about you ladies who have gone through this multiple times - you ladies are true heros. I'm not sure I could go through the stimming process more than once. It definitely took a toll on me..
@Hopeful_mom Sorry to hear your news and you're in my prayers. @shaykay9 I don't know too much about the FSH level but your AMH is still good. Mine is 1.55 and I was told over 1 is good.
update: 4 embryos freeze... The ET wasn't bad and valium helps to relax lol. I just had cramps on and off a day after ET. Good luck with everyone!!
I have a really dumb question but I want to triple check with you guys. I'm on lupron 10 units and i ran out of needles, I got new needles from the pharmacy and they look different. Is 10 units of lupron .10 ml? I would assume so and I measured it out but it looks like a smaller amount. I can't tell if it's actually smaller or just a different needle.

We'll transfer up to 2, and if there are any left, test and freeze the rest.

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake- Just taking PTOs. I get about the same number of days you get and I pretty much maxed out (my company allow us to accumulate up to 20 days). Next year is my 5-year anniversary with my workplace and I will get more PTOs/year and will also be able to accrue more.

KLake42 That's so exciting!! I just got word that trigger will go down tomorrow night so a Tues retrieval/Sun Xfer. I'm beyond ready to get this show on the road! wanderlust14 Also excited for you! Keep us updated through your 2WW Dragonfly6191 I was very nervous as well, I still am actually. But the meds are really not as bad as I was expecting. I think that most of my nerves are from the anticipation rather than the reality. Also, I'm noticing that when things start moving, they move VERY quickly (like with e2 levels) GL!
So I have yet another u/s tomorrow morning with plan to trigger tomorrow evening (Happy Easter to me). My e2 jumped to 2796.0 today which I guess is fine? How is everyone feeling with their meds/procedures?
@Hopeful_mom- Not sure staying busy or being relaxed is better for the development of my eggs, but since I had so many PTOs accumulated, I decided to take a few days off. I'm trying to stay more active even on my days off though, and I have been forced stay somewhat active as I have daily appointments with the clinic! My clinic is close to my workplace, just a 10-minute drive away, but unfortunately I live ~45 min away from work without traffic. With traffic it's well over an hour drive. My vacation started yesterday but so far I had to drive down to the clinic everyday... oh well.
My u/s went okay, I have about 10 follicles in each ovary, 16mm-10mm in size. I have a low % mature eggs problem, so I need to be stimmed a bit longer (stimmed for ~11 days the past cycles. Shooting for 12-13 this time), but my eggs may be growing a bit faster than they should be. My estradiol went up from 2700 to 3500 today. Another appointment tomorrow. Ugh.

@artemis618- Congrats on 4 blasts! Nice that you have eggs frozen from 2012. In hindsight, maybe I should have banked our embryos back when we were first TTC (we TTC'd for about six months when I was in-between jobs soon after I was married, but then I got a job and put TTC on hold). But back then I didn't know I was infertile, so oh well. Hoping you get a few normal, from the current batch of blasts! And that you get many more from your frozen eggs!
@fivetimesnoluck- Yay on having a transfer date! You're almost there!
@Nim- Congrats on ET! 4 embryos frozen, that's great, too!
@brooklyngirl18- Just checked one of my insulin syringes and yeap, 0.1 ml is 10 units. So I think you're good. It might be that the new syringe has wider barrel than the previous one. Interesting, only 1 out of 3 types of insulin syringes had both ml and units graduations.

@cashewchicken yep I'm doing Ovidrel. I'm not sure the number of shots because they only gave me the initial treatment calendar so far. All I know is I start adding the Ganirelix to the Follistim and Menopur starting tomorrow night. The dr today said he thinks my retrieval will likely be Thursday or Friday. I hope you're enjoying your stay cation, even though you're making daily clinic trips. I bet the rest will be calming for you as you get ready this week.
@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake thinking of you for trigger tomorrow night, how exciting! And I agree with you on the anticipation of everything being more nerve wracking than the reality in this whole process. Now I'm just really ready to get on with it!
@mandasand i think the needles my re called in are insulin needles but they don't have the same type of measurements as the needles that came with my lupron kit. The syringe seems a bit wider so I wanted to make sure. @KLake42 those are solid numbers, I have everything crossed they keep growing perfectly over the weekend. @i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake so exciting! I totally agree, once things start moving it feels like you're moving a warp speed but it takes forever to get started. @momifbysea yay for more follies! @cashewchicken thanks for checking for me! That's a bummer you still need to drive so far on your days off to the clinic. I hope growth slows down a little bit so you can stim longer.
nothing really new from me. I was expecting my dr to want to see me today but yesterday he said come back monday. I'm expecting to trigger monday for a wednesday retrieval. I'm feeling ok just uncomfortable and bad headaches ugh. I'm so ready for this to be over. I'm already obsessing over when my FET will be and need to keep telling myself to take things one step at a time. We still need to do the retrieval, see how many make it 5 days, then do testing so it's going to be a while. I hoping for May but we'll see.

Momifbysea - VERY happy to hear your follys are responding well! Keep us updated and I'll let you know how trigger goes! brooklyngirl18 - As I get closer to the ER, the tougher these side effects are for me as well. Lots of fatigue, a few headaches and some cramping. They come and they go, but I'll be happy when they are over. I work Tuesdays thru Saturdays so am just thankful I have the next 2 days off (of course I'll probably have to wake up early each day to go to RE office, but MAYBE I'll get a day off and they'll let me skip on Monday)
@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake- So many of us are living at the RE's office I guess it's good that our REs want to closely monitor us. Trigger on Sunday! That's great! If you're triggering Sunday night, your RE will likely let you skip Monday visit, as there isn't much they need to do.
@Momifbysea- Oh Ganirelix. Is it just me or does that drug burn? Of all the fertility drugs, I disliked Ganirelix and HCG the most. Ganirelix burns and HCG causes itchiness and skin sensitivity.
My RE reduced my meds down to 150 U FSH and 10 U Lupron. Hopefully I can keep this dose for the next few days. My RE is monitoring my estradiol levels daily (it seems) and I have to go back to the clinic again tomorrow. Besides bloating, I'm not sure if this is medication related or not, but I'm prone to body aches/fatigue. Like on Thursday, I did some scrubbing and moving some books and binders around (I was cleaning my office a bit before the break). No heavy lifting. That night both arms were sore, my shoulders ached, and so did my wrist. I did some typing on the computer and then my fingers ache. Not sure what is going on.
I bought myself a treat today. I'm pre-diabetic and on Metformin so I have been avoiding ice cream, and most desserts in general. I discovered a reduced sugar ice cream brand that uses erythritol as sweetener and it was delicious.

@cashewchicken I've noticed body aches too, especially in my hips. I read a side effect of menopur is body aches so that's what I'm attributing it to. Lucky for us it's only a few more days.

@cashewchicken I've definitely experienced sore joints on various meds. Letrozole was the worst, but progesterone has done it too.
My physical therapist told me that hormones can makes our joints more lax, and loose joints can lead to injury, when tendons slip out of place. I've learned to go way easy on exercise whenever I'm taking something.

I gave up Facebook for Lent. And now that I'm all full of estrogen and progesterone, I started scrolling earlier today. I stupidly clicked on a link to what was obviously a super sad story. I read it. I started crying. I started sobbing. My wife dropped what she was doing in the other room to come check on me in a panic, and I ugly-cried while explaining it to her.
She almost deleted FB again from my phone.
But then I found a funny animal video, and laughed hysterically until I cried watching that. I clearly am not capable to handle social media right now.
Meanwhile, embryo transfer is tomorrow afternoon. We read that women who have a clown entertain them post-transfer have higher success rates, so my wife is saving pages and pages of dumb Dad jokes to tell me after the transfer.

I can relate to everyone feeling symptoms. I'm day 5 on stimming today, and I've been noticing more cramping (especially after today's u/s) and every other thing seems to make we weepy.
Today the nurse told me that I currently have 2-4 follicles growing on each side. She said it was still early and not abnormal, and that any growth at this point will likely be minimal, and that I should see more growth/follicles day 7 or day 9. Is that how other people's experiences have been? This is my first IVF cycle, and I'm still trying to figure out what's normal, especially now that I'm 39-going-on-40 next Sunday.
@sm05-2 yes, from what I've heard, that's normal and I've been experiencing it too. This is my first cycle, I'm 42-1/2, and after 2 days of meds they saw 2 small on one side and the other "quiet." I freaked out but after 4 days of meds they saw 6. I went in yesterday, after 5 days, and the dr said he saw at least 4 on each side, so don't lose hope!
I'm curious what my appt tomorrow morning will be. He said the Ganirelix, which I start tonight, will start to help slow down larger ones so maybe smaller ones would catch up. Not sure if this would halt any new ones? Like will my final count to work with be the 8? Can anyone shed light on this?
@KLake42 just wanted to say thinking of you for your transfer tomorrow! I love that you're collecting the jokes, simply an awesome approach. I find DH and I have been using humor to destress and it's helped immensely!
@KLake42 best of luck for a smooth transfer tomorrow! Sending u sticky vibes! I too was sobbing from a story from the other day and the animal videos always bring my spirits up!
@sm05-2 everyone responds differently BUT it does sound like you're doing well. You just have to hope your body continues to respond hang in there! Usually my RE says its normal for our age range to get 10 eggs. BUT My first time I made it ti ER i got 3 so you never know.
@cashewchicken i had off through my last cycle and all the early appt sucked and i wasn't able to enjoy it. Even though I did have to go this am and then slept the rest of the day away Glad you're responding so well! Your ES is awesome! mine doubled to like 340 today so that makes me nervous but nothing i can do about it.
brooklyngirl18 thinking about the next steps does get scary but you're on your way so its also exciting to move onto the next step! Usually after the trigger my RE just makes me come in for BW to make sure the trigger was done right...I hate the wasted visit too. At least I dont live as far as some of you ladies.
Momifbysea - its nice you're having such a good response!! Now you just need them to keep on growing!!
@wanderlust14 Sending you super sticky vibes!! Are you going to POAS? when is ur beta? hope u get some more good news on frosties tomorrow!
Nim so glad everything went well! sending you super sticky vibes! Just relax and try and let the magic happen! 4 blasts is awesome congrats!
@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake- good luck with your trigger, you're getting so close yay!!! My clinic usually has us come in for bw after trigger, lucky if you get to sleep in
@fivetimesnoluck- glad things r moving in the right direction! so close yay!!
AFM: Spoke with my RE as I' still a bit at a loss. She told me all my questions are valid and they still dont have all the answers. Science has come such a long way its so frustrating that its all still so expensive and hard. She also mentioned that day 5 testing should have less mosiac normals then a 3 day testing would. Still moving forward with this cycle and we'll see how it goes. My US today showed 2 measurable follies on the right and left and i guess the others stopped growing. Hoping the tech made a mistake and theres 2 good ones that are hiding. I'm hoping they can at least see 6 so i don't have to question about whether to cancel...these months of meds are killing me!

@brooklyngirl18 and @KLake42- I guess the aches are caused by hormones. I'm taking it easy. I have this week off and I've decided to just do a little bit of chores everyday. Today I vacuumed (well, technically my roombas did) and tidied up the dining room and kitchen.
@KLake42-Hormones are real. I didn't think I was hormonal at all but today I totally snapped at my husband over chores he refused to do. After I snapped, he told me that it's my hormones that's making me angry, which made me upset again. But I think he's partly true. I love dad jokes. In grad school my labmate and I used to tell each other corniest jokes to pass the time when we were stuck in lab doing long experiments. Good luck on transfer tomorrow!
Thanks @sm05-2! I have another appointment tomorrow. So far I've been making daily trips to the clinic since last Friday. I'm a bit regretting taking this coming week off! If I had known I had to make the trip down, might as well just go to work! Re: follicle growth, I'm not sure what's normal, as I'm not normal. It depends on at what size the RE/technician starts counting follicles too. My first u/s appointment was day 5 of stims, and that's when my follicles were 8-11 mm in size. It does get noticeably bigger on u/s after that.

@Momifbysea- I used Ganirelix the last two cycles but I just assumed Ganirelix was used to stop your body from gearing up for ovulation (by preventing LH from acting), and not actually affect the size of the leading follicles. My guess is using Ganirelix will give enough time for the smaller ones to catch up, so my guess is it won't affect the growth of the smaller follicles (or the larger ones, but I don't now).
@Hopeful_mom- My estradiol went up to 6500, and my clinic told me to stop using FSH. I only stimmed for 8 days and now I'm coasting. I don't know if that was enough stimming. Ugh, this cycle might be a bust too.
Assuming the estradiol level isn't too high (like mine), doubling of estradiol is a good sign that the follicles are growing!

cashewchicken I think your estradiol going up that high is a good thing, it just shows the amount of growing action those follies have...you should have. I wouldnt be concerned on the time of stemming that you're doing. My very first cycle i did 9 days and the few i had were all at the same time and good to go. I wouldn't worry about that. I rather stem less but lately i need the few extra days.

@KLake42 these hormones are no joke. I've been a blubbering mess. good luck today!!!! sending you all the positive vibes.
guys I am FREAKING OUT. my RE's father passed away and the funeral is set for Wednesday, the day of my egg retrieval (more on the that later). I feel terrible but I'm so upset because the dr covering is horrible. I had an ectopic last year and I saw this covering dr, it was my first time ever seeing her and she walked into the room after hearing we did not have a viable pregnancy and she said 'congratulations, oh well i guess not really'. I wanted to throat punch her. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and said maybe she just said something really awkward and didn't mean it. I went for my follow up and she said to me 'so how are you feeling after all the excitement last month' omg i swear i could have just punched her. I can't believe she will be the one doing my retrieval, i'm so upset.
the bigger issue though, is that i'm now super high risk of ohss. I have about 60 follicles. The dr said to take a half dose of hcg tonight and then will give me some pills to take the night of the retrieval and for another week to reduce symptoms. I asked him what I can expect with ohss because my husband works overnights and i work fulltime and we have a 2 year old at home that I need to plan for and he said 'hopefully you won't be hospitalized' WHAT?! I'm so upset that he isn't doing my ER especially since i'm so high risk. I've been crying all morning and I really need to get it together. he said all this depends on my estrogen levels, if they're too high he will push back my retrieval by a day or so. I'm seriously hoping it's too high so I can have my dr do the ER and give the estrogen a chance to come down a little and reduce ohss. I'm thinking of calling and asking to push it back either way but I'll see what they say about my estrogen first.

Re: April IVF
I'm blogging about it here
Ash_SE protocol is the antagonist I did get a normal embryo from it so we assumed it wouldve done the same again.

Of course we all want both quality and quantity (ha - reminds me of diamonds
@fivetimesnoluck How very exciting to have dates - you're getting so close!

@Dragonfly6191- Hope doubling the dose does the trick!

Dragonfly6191 I was very nervous as well, I still am actually.
My u/s went okay, I have about 10 follicles in each ovary, 16mm-10mm in size. I have a low % mature eggs problem, so I need to be stimmed a bit longer (stimmed for ~11 days the past cycles. Shooting for 12-13 this time), but my eggs may be growing a bit faster than they should be. My estradiol went up from 2700 to 3500 today. Another appointment tomorrow. Ugh.

@wanderlust14- Congrats!
@KLake42- Good luck on Monday! How exciting!

@i-wanna-b-the-girl-w-most-cake so exciting! I totally agree, once things start moving it feels like you're moving a warp speed but it takes forever to get started.
@momifbysea yay for more follies!
I hoping for May but we'll see.

brooklyngirl18 - As I get closer to the ER, the tougher these side effects are for me as well.
@Momifbysea- Oh Ganirelix. Is it just me or does that drug burn? Of all the fertility drugs, I disliked Ganirelix and HCG the most. Ganirelix burns and HCG causes itchiness and skin sensitivity.
@brooklyngirl18- Hope you trigger on Monday!

@sm05-2 everyone responds differently BUT it does sound like you're doing well. You just have to hope your body continues to respond hang in there! Usually my RE says its normal for our age range to get 10 eggs. BUT My first time I made it ti ER i got 3 so you never know.
@cashewchicken i had off through my last cycle and all the early appt sucked and i wasn't able to enjoy it. Even though I did have to go this am and then slept the rest of the day away
brooklyngirl18 thinking about the next steps does get scary but you're on your way so its also exciting to move onto the next step!

@Hopeful_mom- My estradiol went up to 6500, and my clinic told me to stop using FSH. I only stimmed for 8 days and now I'm coasting. I don't know if that was enough stimming. Ugh, this cycle might be a bust too.
Assuming the estradiol level isn't too high (like mine), doubling of estradiol is a good sign that the follicles are growing!

guys I am FREAKING OUT. my RE's father passed away and the funeral is set for Wednesday, the day of my egg retrieval (more on the that later).
