Hi mommas! How's everyone feeling this week? Any questions or concerns?

Re: Symptoms, questions, and concerns for the week of 4/8

  • Well my prenatal left such a horrible taste in my mouth that I am shuddering just thinking about it.
  • Loading the player...
  • What prenatal do you take @jlemons-2?
  • Always tired, nauseated sometimes when I think about certain foods. Still with sore breasts, one is now definitely quite bigger than the other. Anyone else with one sided growth?

@jlemons-2 I've had good luck with the gummies!
  • I have a question - does anyone else take levothyroxicine? I take it in the morning on an empty stomach (which totes does not help nausea btw) and was told to take my prenatal at night so it doesn't contradict the thyroid meds but since I have been doing that, I've been having trouble sleeping - namely, falling asleep. It's like a get a second wind. Any suggestions?!?  How long after you take thyroid med do you give yourself before taking prenatal I guess is my overall question.

  • @Marley629 I'm on synthroid. I just make sure to take it on an empty stomach in the morning then I take my prenatal 4 hours later with food.

As long as you separate it by four hours from your prenatal, it's fine. So, I'd just take your levothyroxine at your regular time and then do the prenatal with lunch.
  • I do take the gummies! Vitafusion brand. They worked for me last time but this time I might need something else. Any suggestions?
  • I have an extremely sensitive stomach and the target bran prenatals don't bother me.
  • I've done really well with the Rite Aid brand prenatals. I've been taking them daily since I was pregnant with DD, BFing, and now with this LO. I think they are actually made by the same generic manufacturer as the Target ones that @justsuzie uses, because the tablets look exactly the same and they have exactly the same contents. No nausea taken with or without food and no weird taste. Store brand prenatals FTW!
  • All of my symptoms have actually subsided at 5weeks 3 days. I'm trying to not look too much into it. I do have naturally highly anxiety and the lack of symptoms is triggering. Apparently it's common but I still worry. :(
  • I keep having this feeling like I should put a liner or pad on before I leave the house just in case I start bleeding... which is random because I haven't bled at all, and I don't have any history of loss. But I know that doesn't exclude me from the chance of having a loss. I guess maybe I kind of feel so lucky about the fact that my pregnancy with DS was so uneventful I am "due" so to speak for a bad pregnancy experience. I'm wondering if maybe this is some prenatal anxiety creeping in. I'm definitely going to mention it to my midwife when I see her in a few weeks... it's just been on my mind

  • @justsuzie It is common, and we know this, but that certainly doesn't make it any easier. Hugs momma. One day at a time.

@kvacmak I know what you mean by feeling due for your bad pregnancy experience. I too have never suffered a loss, but **TW** my grandma's first child was stillborn and my mother had 2 MCs between my brother and I that were really hard on her. **end TW** All of the women in my family are easy to get pregnant, as was I, (I can't think of a more eloquent way to word that right now) so, I feel like there is s connection there somehow and I'm afraid of "my time" coming too. All this to say, I get where you are coming from and I don't think that your thoughts are super abnormal, but I think it's good that you are self aware enough to want to mention it to your midwife.
  • @acgonzalez22 @kbamomma33 thank you!!

  • @kbamomma33 that's totally how I feel. *TW* The vast majority of women I know have suffered a loss, plus working the ED I see losses almost daily. */TW* I almost feel guilty for never having gone through that, though I'm obviously not wishing for it. I just see the strength and resilience those women have, it's so admirable.

  • @kvacmak I have this fear as well. I've been having a lot of anxiety about this pregnancy. A lot of it has to do with my willy nilly symptoms. I was SO sick with my DD and now it's just some super slight nausea here and there that goes away if I eat a couple crackers. There's the headaches and heartburn, but anything could cause those two. I am so stuck in my head this time around. I miss the blissful ignorance of my first.

***TW*** My cousins and I have 6 (this one makes 7) LO's between us and I'm the only one who hasn't had a loss. I feel like it's "my turn". It's a horrible thought to have, but I can't shake it. On top of that, there have been a lot of really tragic vehicle accidents that have wormed their way into my subconscious. (We were three minutes behind an accident that caused both parents of twin infants to die, by no fault of their own. Then a couple weeks later my dad was on the scene of an accident with a toddler fatality and he saw the child.) So now I've got anxiety over driving because I'm thinking, well... If I don't naturally have a loss, it'll probably happen in an accident. */TW*

  • @kvacmak I totally know what you mean. This is my first pregnancy and knowing all that can go wrong, especially in the first few weeks, has me dying to feel/look pregnant already. I hope I feel relief after the first sonogram.

Other than being suuuuper tired, I don't really have other symptoms right now. No shame, I took two naps today! It was glorious. My boobs hurt for a few days last week but that went away... so I'm trying not to read into that. Not that I'm dying to have horrendous morning sickness, but I hope this pregnancy feels more real soon. I need my BSC brain to be quiet and stop worrying!

  • I feel bloated, but like uber-bloated all through the pelvis.  My bladder constantly feels too small, and like I just have too much inflammation and "stuff" around my uterus. I can even feel it through the pelvic muscles when I'm sitting down-- Like just the act of sitting down on to the couch and having pressure there from the bottom is noticeable. And throw some intermittent cramps in there.  My pants are so uncomfortable, I'm in leggings every day right now!

@whiska Totally me too! I put on my work pants for the first time since BFP and I was like WOAH these are uncomfortable. It took me by surprise!

    ETA:

@vvitchhazel I'm the same. Except with DS I keep having thoughts of what if something happens to me and there's no one to take care of him? (since DH is out of town for work and we don't have family in our city, or even our province really...) That thought has creeped into my mind almost daily... It's so true that mom's never stop worrying, even when there isn't *really* anything to worry about, we'll find something to worry about!

  • Today, total exhaustion hit while I was at work. It's 7:45pm and I could go to bed for the evening, but I promised DH I would go watch his bland play for a little bit tonight (they don't start until 10pm omg). I've also been feeling a little short of breath here and there?

Like many of you I feel my symptoms come and go and it worries me too. I absolutely relate to wanting to feel them kick in and "feel pregnant". It is a comfort to know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

  • @PoeMasque  I can't even ask any of my pregnant friends about it because we are waiting to tell anyone until well into the 2nd trimester because of our loss history.  I guess we just need to have faith in the fact that we have no control over what is happening so worrying is pointless. Our bodies know what to do! I like your positivity of enjoying every day. I wish I wasn't so much of a worry wart.

*TW* Loss mentioned. I usually don't get anxious but I'm right there with you all. I have my ultrasound on Monday and I'm terrified. When we did IVF the first time in 2013, I was pregnant with twins. I lost 1 early and at the 10 week ultrasound the other no longer had a heartbeat. Then in 2014, I had an ectopic and lost my right tube. This time we got pregnant without any fertility help and I should be ecstatic, but I'm more terrified right now until I see this nugget on Monday. Mom-ing is tough but we will all be okay! One day at a time.

ETA My DS was a picture perfect pregnancy and delivery in 2015
  • I'm with everyone on worrying that something will go wrong. My symptoms also have been coming and going and it's freaking me out too.  I'm only 4 weeks 5 days so I know it's early, but I keep stressing over what symptoms I had by this point with my son.  ***TW*** I know every pregnancy is different, but with my MMC I had no symptoms at all so I'd really like some this time! ***End TW***.  To top it off I have a bad cold so now I don't even know if my fatigue is pregnancy related anymore or not.
  • @TigerCakes I'm right there with you... I don't know if my body is still transitioning from night shift or i'm just preggo exhausted. I literally yawn every 5 minutes... My ILs are here now... I just keep blaming night shift haha Luckily FIL used to work shifts so they totally get it.

  • The brown and red spotting that I mentioned last night has progressed to bright red blood with the flow of a light period. It's pretty scary whenever I go to pee in the toilet too. I've been having pretty constant, painful cramping along with it for the past 5 hours or so. I called my OB line and the nurse said water and rest until I soak a pad in an hour, then go to the ER. The bleeding has picked up a tad since I spoke with her. I'm praying hard that it stops and maybe it's just because I did too much today. Guys, I'd really appreciate some positive vibes or whatever you do right now.

  • @kbamomma33 All the good vibes. Bleeding is scary, but it doesn't necessarily mean mc. FX for you.

I’m so effing tired. I cant even. My boobs and nipples hurt. Mild cramping has lessened. Still having crazy dreams. For example, I had a dream that I looked away for a second and someone put a plastic bag over my baby’s head. I already have bad stomach issues but I’ve had nausea and constipation. When not KU I have the worst constant heartburn you could imagine. I stopped taking my daily Prilosec because it is a class C medication. Well, that did not go well. After seeing my doc and trying zantac 600mg a day with zero effect, I broke down and started on Nexium. It’s a class B medication (safe), but I really don’t want to take any medication at all. I’m worried it will hurt my baby (and of course Google didn't calm my fears). But I couldn't live in this misery for the better part of a year and I just have to trust the class B ranking, I guess. I’m stressing out pretty bad about birth defects. Anyone on Prilosec or Nexium during a past pregnancy?I guess my other major symptom is anxiety. My anxiety is sky high, and I’m having trouble sleeping.

  • @Marley629 are you getting your levels checked? I go every 4 weeks,  pregnancy messes with it so much! I know when I'm not sleeping it's bc my levels are off, once I get my blood taken and a new dose it helps!
  • @kbamomma33 FX for you, I really hope it's nothing severe.  Keep us updated, we are here for you.

@stillclever17 I had awful dreams like that for my whole pregnancy last time.  Nothing yet this time.  Although last night I dreamed DD figured out how to climb out of her crib...

I also have a comment about your heartburn.  I had to take Nexium last pregnancy, and I also hate meds.  But there is really no way around it because the burn got so bad I would vomit all night (even propped up sleeping!).  I hope things go well for you in that way because I am terrified for the 3rd tri burn and reflux. My MFM assured me I could take the Nexium and Zantac.  I feel like we have all the same issues, we may get along!

  • @kbamomma33 sending all the good vibes your way!

@vvitchhazel the driving anxiety is awful here, too. I've never been SO scared and hyper vigilant until I had DS, and especially when he's in the car with me. I find myself playing through the worst scenarios almost the entire time we're going anywhere and it's exhausting.
  • @kbamomma33 Sending positive T&P that everything is just fine.
  • @kbamomma33 Thinking of you and hoping everything is ok.

@stillclever17 My OB actually said I could take Prilosec my last pregnancy when Zantac stopped working, but I decided against it.  I think I would take the Nexium since it's class B.  You don't want to suffer for 9 months!
  • Bleeding is now a heavy period flow, lots of cramping, still not quite soaking a pad an hour. I'm just laying low around the house today unless it gets to the point where I feel like it's medically indicated for me to go to the ER. I'll be calling my OB tomorrow morning to try and hopefully get worked in for a u/s though. This is way more blood than I ever saw with DD, which was a good amount, so I am mentally preparing myself for bad news. DH is being super supportive and sweet to me today. Thanks for all the support ladies.
  • @kbamomma33 I am SO so sorry you are going through this. My heart goes out to you. Take care of yourself and rest, mama. <3<3
