Does anybody have book recommendations on adjusting to parenthood? When I google this, I end up finding books focused on the baby but I'm more looking for something for myself. Thanks in advance!
Oh no!! I'm so sorry to hear about that!! @ftm53 I hope the freelance place works out for you.
There are some days where Elise is just the biggest grump ever and I want to get out of the house. Ideally we would go on a walk, but I live in the Pacific Northwest so that's not really the best option these days. (Why don't they make baby raincoats? Lol) Any suggestions?? She's really active and likes to cruise and crawl around so I feel like my options are limited.
@shaylalr could go to an indoor mall and walk around? Some of them even have play areas for all age ranges. Or maybe a trip to the local library? Most of them have reading areas/activities and it would build an interest in books (even if she just flips the pages like AJ does).
Update on the work front. 1) I made it completely awkward on my former boss by showing up at lunch to clean out my desk. I brought the baby and everything. Everyone in the office knows me and likes me and knows I have a new baby, so the company looks like the asses they are for firing a new mom. 2) freelance work is 90% confirmed. I get final confirmation tomorrow, but looking like only 2-3 days a week and a 43% raise compared to what I was making before.
Was backing out of my parking spot today and got in a lil fender bender. Elijah is fine, he didn't even cry or anything. No actual damage to either car, just some paint got on both. Do I need to do anything to make sure Elijah is okay? He's acting completely normal. I do know I need to replace his Graco4ever car seat now. So much for lasting 10 years- it lasted 1 month.
NHTSA recommends that child safety seats do not automatically need to be replaced following a minor crash..
MINOR CRASHES ARE THOSE THAT MEET ALL OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
The vehicle was able to be driven away from the crash site;
The vehicle door nearest the safety seat was undamaged;
There were no injuries to any of the vehicle occupants;
The air bags (if present) did not deploy; AND
There is no visible damage to the safety seat
WILL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY REPLACE YOUR CAR SEAT BOOSTER AFTER A CRASH?
Most insurance companies will replace your car seat in a crash without question.
When our car was merely stolen and the car seats were found a few blocks away having been thrown out of the car, our insurance replaced them just in case there was unseen damage. (Our car was later found torn to shreds on the inside, seat belts were torn out and who knows what else happened in there.)
The insurance company had us buy a new car seat right away and they reimbursed us from the receipt. They don’t require you to buy the same seat. For instance, if your child was about to outgrow an infant seat, the insurance company will allow you to buy a convertible in its place.
@austinjl Hopefully that info above helps. You prompted me to do some searching because I did not know that!
Sounds like if it does need to be replaced, you'd probably be going through insurance and filing a claim, in which case you'd add the car seat to your claim.
Yea I put a call into my insurance company and I'm waiting to hear back. The first person I talked to said I'd probably have to pay my deductible, which is more than the seat. She was going to check on this and get back to me. Trying to focus on the important thing that neither of us are hurt!!!!
@shaylalr- I live by Seattle, so I totally understand the rain. There is construction going on next to my house for 10 hours each day, so we are getting out of the house everyday for my sanity. Each week we go to storytime at the library, bible study, and dance class. Sometimes we go to cafes that have baby play areas (some are free for kids under 1), children's museums, kid concerts (check out Casper Babypants!), parks on dry days, indoor swimming pool, to a friend's house, Costco, etc. We do go for 1-2 walks everyday as well (I have a dog so I have to). I watch for rain breaks and we quickly go. If it's been raining for 4 hours, then I wear DD2 and use an umbrella to keep us dry or I put her in the stroller with a rain cover on.
Not sure if anyone else has encountered this, but M gets diaper rash from zero to 60. She goes from red to full on in 24 hours. And it seeps, slightly bleeds, and looks like rug burn. (It's done this since she was a month old when she gets them) She screams during changes so its certainly uncomfortable for her. The doctor prescribed her with bactroban and it's AMAZING. Within 24 hours of using it, it's noticeably better. Just wanted to share!
@holly142 Thank you so much for the suggestions! I was thinking about it more, and I think my issue is that I feel odd hanging out somewhere with just Elise because she is so young. I think I need to try and schedule more play dates!
@ldsjm123 Elise has the same issue! I'll ask about that at my next appointment!! Thank you!
austinjlTiffRox81 said. Insurance companies do use those guidelines as evidence to not replace a seat if it isn't warranted. If any of the qualifications are questionable they probably will replace it, but if you're not getting your car fixed it may not be worth it based on your deductible. If you were at fault for the loss the seat would fall under your homeowners insurance because the collision coverage on your car only covers the car itself, not contents. If the other person was at fault it will fall under their property damage coverage. You're probably better off replacing yourself if you're not worried about the accident. Based on there being no damage other than some paint transfer my guess is it is probably fine.
@austinjl glad everyone is ok! Even the small accidents can still be scary.
I'm so excited for it to be nice out tomorrow finally! It's been rainy and windy here all week. I think we may make our first zoo excursion of the year We haven't been since E was 4 months old, and she loved it then.
I've been sick since Wednesday and I knew it was a matter of time before both babes got it too. We were up all night with screaming, snotty babies. Thank god my mom was able to come over and help me today. Feeding them all the foods with vitamin C!!
@shaylalr- I totally get feeling weird being alone. When DD1 was a baby, I didn't know the other moms at the library. However, now 1 friend goes each week too and it makes it more fun!
@shanparadise- I'm sorry all of you are sick. I'm glad you have help!
Ughhh.... last night I went to the bathroom while Elijah was sleeping and heard a thud as I was washing my hands. Yup, Elijah fell out of the bed. He's okay and not hurt but clearly I can never leave him alone again even while sleeping! He woke up, crawled over the sturdy pillow and fell all within the span of probably 20 seconds. Feeling like the worst Mom ever.......please tell me this has happened to somebody else!!!!
We are currently still toothless. However, she's been cranking up the crusty baby thing and chewing everything and drooling like a mad woman ... she also has been pushing food away more often than normal and just wants to be held 24/7. So I think she's getting close to cutting some teeth. Please hurry up and cut through teeth.. I want my happy baby back lol!!!!
M's 2 bottom teeth are finally visible. She hates when we look, but there are holes, but they aren't through just yet. I was starting to think she was the last to get teeth.
L refuses to eat her warm foods when she's teething. Pretty much just wants her milk 24/7. She also hates when we try and get in there and look!! However, I happened to notice a 7th tooth when she was on my lap and we were playing over the weekend.
S has full force bottom teeth and we're working on the pointy tip of a top one but every time we try to open her mouth to look the stinker sticks her tongue out & blocks our view!
@LDSJM123 That's exactly how L's are too! He's definitely still toothless but you can see the hole/indentation where it's going to come in. He also REALLY hates when we try to see in his mouth lol
