@ElizabethSchuyler - Don't be. It'll be fine! I have an older one too, who is about the same age difference again. She just turned 4 recently. She was a great little helper when DS came along, though she probably got more TV time than she really needed for those first few months.
@ElizabethSchuyler 0-1 is WAY more difficult. It changes your entire life style and view of the world. Nothing is just about you anymore and you can't do whatever you want whenever you want. 1-2 is just adding a little more chaos. I'm thinking 2-3 will be the same.
I am so over peoples (particularly strangers) comments/questions about our family size. Since we had our 5th, I have heard all of the following and probably more insulting comments that I can't remember right now and I'm sure number 6 will only add more:
"oh, is that a daycare group?", "are those all yours?", "do they all have the same father?", "Do you not have cable?", "Do you know what causes that?", "are you one of those weird, religious families?", "when are you going to be done having kids?"
@cmessamore I agree with @ElizabethSchuyler. Plus I think it's pretty cute you're going to have half a dozen. I want four and plan on calling our family the ____ half dozen. Because I want to.
@cmessamore I love seeing big families out and about. I'm always jealous of that kind of dynamic. I accepted a long time ago that it wasn't the dynamic that would work for DH and I, but I think it's great nonetheless. I can't believe you actually get comments like that. I probably shouldn't be by now, but I'm still always surprised by just how rude people can be.
@ElizabethSchuyler and @DuchessOfCambridge At first, I was really caught off guard, and my response was always a series of mumbles and trying to justify my actions. Then I started to give a very prepared answer, usually going with "Oh, wow, I don't know what to say to that. It's rare that I get asked such a personal question from someone I don't no know." It usually catches them off guard enough to make them apologize and then leave me alone.
@cmessamore - I'm from a family of four kids - and yeah we got looks/comments. I always felt bad for kids that didn't have so many siblings that they got to pick which one they liked that day...lol!
I work with a man who has 11 kids (yes one wife) - I defend him when people make comments - it's really no ones business.
I'm sure people will think I'm crazy for having a third kid - doesn't bother me
@ArtificialRed I describe the dynamic as "Chaotic Love" lol and yeah, it's great and works for us, but I totally understand how this life isn't for everyone! And yup! It was shocking to me how rude people are!
Ha, this is funny to me. I grew up in a majority Mormon area so almost everybody I knew had 4+ siblings. It was so much more unusual that my family had only two kids!
@adirat Maybe I need to move! lol We live in Massachusetts and I feel like everyone I know has two or three kids. We have a couple of friends that have 4 kids. And a couple that only have 1. But the only other family we know that has 5 is my sister in law and we don't know anyone with 6!
@cmessamore I agree with @ElizabethSchuyler. Plus I think it's pretty cute you're going to have half a dozen. I want four and plan on calling our family the ____ half dozen. Because I want to.
DH's uncle has four kids. They go by the S___ six pack and I giggle every time I hear it!
I'm just sitting here bumping praying that I will magically be hit with inspiration for dinner. So far it hasn't worked, but surely if I post just a few more times it will, right?!
I just realized the 20 week milestone will be on my birthday. I am so excited and hope that I can schedule the anatomy scan for that day, it would be the best birthday gift I could ask for!
I have a fitbit that I haven't used in forever and I've been thinking about using it again to motivate myself to move more! My DH walks a lot at work so he has no problem getting 10k steps per day, but I sit for work so competing with him isn't fair!
@adirat I think mine offered it right away because they're used to dealing with female soldiers that can't take time off for morning sickness
Guess who finally got flight reservations for moving from Korea to NY???? This girl right here!! And my little Maltese gets to fly in cabin. The reservation people just have to confirm our dogs' reservation for one of the airlines.
Yay @slaven ! I'm sure your family will be so thrilled to have you back home!
Has anyone else bought a pregnancy journal? I got one today and I'm totally obsessed with it. I made DH answer some of the questions in it as soon as he came home. I am soooo excited to start putting in photos and stuff! I got the Sofie LA giraffe one... not because I love the brand (a actually think it's a bit over exaggerated) but because I had 3 choices and this one seemed to match our family dynamic better. One thing I have NO CLUE what to write is my journal asked "if I were a color I would be..." What would you put? DH put yellow for himself, but I totally would have put red or orange for him... how do you choose a color for yourself?
@TallMomma29 I am literally so obsessed with my fitbit, the new feature where you can go on virtual hikes and collect virtual treasures is the greatest thing for me !
@bcashaw that pregnancy journal sounds fun! I had one with my first two babies, but not with my last one (third child syndrome)! Haha
That question is so tough!! I think I'd say purple. Because I think I'm a mix of red and blue. I can be fierce and bold when needed, and I am super mellow and relaxed most of the time.
We have picture day at work today to update the website photos. This means a full suit and full fsce of makeup this morning. My pencil skirt is so uncomfortable with the bloat. Also, the girl in my office thinks it's weird to dress up for the photos. I think it's weird not to. Usually it's the first impression someone had of you and we are professionals...last time I checkes. Plus I tend to look like a teenager if I don't dress up and in my position that is not helpful.
@bcashaw I bought the Pearhead pregnancy journal off of Amazon and I love it! The Belly Book had the best reviews but it was just so ugly and some of the other ones had literally hundreds of pages to fill out, which I would never do. The one I got is good for people who want the keepsake but aren't big into writing -if you're a writer, it is NOT the book for you. It has one page per month with prompts to fill out and lots of room for pictures/folders for papers. I do wish there was some stuff for dads in it but I'm going to make the Doctors Recommendations pages into "How Dads Doing Every Month" and have DH fill it out. I also think the cover is cute. It's a pregnant woman with a space for your own ultrasound where her belly is.
You guys are great with the pregnancy journals and such! I wish I had done one with my previous two, but know it would have just ended up collecting dust. I didn't even do baby books for either of my kids. Oops!
@TallMomma29 it makes me irrationally happy that the December forum is up! I've been checking frequently. @DuchessOfCambridgei am definitely big on writing so that one's not for me. I'm so happy there are so many types to pregnancy journals to fit each type of person. @ugoglencoco my mom did like half of a pregnancy journal with me and it literally used to sit on her shelf, and now sits on my shelf collecting dust ! I've looked at it maybe 3 times in my life.
@ugoglencoco I didn't do baby books for either of my two! I also didn't do newborn photos but now I really want to with this round but feel a little guilty about that!
Kind of random but we are planning on telling our family on mother's day with cute gifts for our Mom's and my grandma. I have been holding off on ordering thr gifts until I was farther along, when do you guys think I should just go ahead and order? For some reason I am terrifies to order too early. Thoughts?
@jess0211 isn't mothers day mid may? Depending on how long the shipping will take you could totally wait a bit longer if that makes you more comfortable. I would do all my online window shopping and decide 100 percent what I want to buy but just hold off on putting the order in until I awash feeling more confident. I totally get where you're coming from there!
@jess0211 I'd order now too! I'm a planner. I just ordered some gifts for my bffs bachelorette...in August...and I bought her bridal shower gift (it's in July) this past October
I get that this is different and you're nervous but you did have a good ultrasound! It's only a month and change away
We're telling one of our super close friends tomorrow night and I'm SO. EXCITED. DH and I are both really close to him, and he officiated our wedding!
